Wow. Really? Aren't bears supposed to be really scary and can't they like... eat you? Let's give them Vodka.

But you all can probably understand why my eyes were drawn to the headline.

I'm glad they're going to free them... they should never have kept them in such conditions in the first place. It IS animal cruelty. :/

I can't help but think of The Golden Compass, though.

I am a guy though I like making female HAs.

I've never thought about it until now, but what how do the bears act when they are drunk? I would think they make angry drunks...

But seriously, how bored do you have to be to find bears being forced to drink vodka amusing? I know there isn't much to do during the winter in Russia and Ukraine but still.

@Margarita
Exactly. That's my point. It is cruel to do such things to creatures that don't understand it...but really? A bear? Bears have big teeth. They eat people or attack people ALL of the time... why not get a... deer drunk? Bambi never hurt anybody.

@Cadenza
Well, pretty frequently. At least around here, I hear reports of it probably... 5-8 times a year. That's more frequent than deer attacks.

I don't think the question is why has it taken them so long to end this practice. I think the real question is why haven't American restaurants implemented this?

Maybe that's where we get the idea of Bears on Unicycles.

But really,
why would you try? Yeah... maybe someone would do it to their pet dog to 'just to see what happens' but a bear? O.o (Not saying I'm okay with people feeding their dogs vodka xD)

It amazes me that there are people stupid enough out there to think, 'Oh hey, let's exploit animals in a harmful way by forcing them to ingest things that are potentially extremely poisonous and could kill them cause it's FUN!'

Do bears like Vodka? *blank*

I do not think that this should be done for people's sick enjoyment, but assuming that the bear is living in an okay condition, this is not really all that different from circus performances...(other than the chronic alcohol poisoning thing going on)

And just for the record, Vodka can't be extremely poisonous, else the bears would have been dead long ago. I

Still....why are BEARS kept in restaurants as entertainment?
