I went out for a lovely meal tonight with my family to celebrate a special occasion. One of the tables was occupied with loads of women. They were obviously having a great time but one of the women was laughing every five seconds, so loudly that me and my family couldn't talk much because we couldn't hear what anyone was saying.

Me and my mum couldn't stand it. It wasn't a normal laugh, it was one of those really high, screechy ones, kind of sounding like a witch's cackle. Now, I'm all for people having fun and enjoying themselves but I think some people take it over the top. Am I being too bitter? :/ Obviously, I can't help it if something grates on my nerves but I still feel slightly guilty that someone having fun can irritate me that much!

I wonder if that lady was trying too hard to fit in. No one needs to laugh that loud all the time.

@chihuahua
no i dont think your being bitter, im actually the same way.
we recently went out to eat for my boyfriends sisters b-day and the table next to us was being
obnoxiously loud. so to retaliate my boyfriends sister and her friends did it back and then when one of the women
at the other table made a comment about us being loud, her friends said we wouldn't have to be so loud if you guys didn't screech like wild birds.
they got quiet after wards

Maybe. She seemed to laugh even when everyone else was quiet too. I was like "Seriously, are they even saying anything funny?"

You'd hate being around me then lol I laugh like a hyena on crack. And I tend to get into hysterics when I laugh.
Makes no sense but if you've heard my laugh you'd understand.

I applaud you and your group. I wonder why people are not considerate of others when they go out in public. When I go out to eat, I don't want to hear other people's conversations, and also remind my party to keep a respectable noise level.

@Clockworthy
thanks ^_^ it was terrible and before we even retaliated back one of the guys walked over and asked them to quite down.
so that is what really fuled them to get back at them even more because they were just down right being disrespectful.
but im the same way as you i also make sure to tell my party to keep it reasonable and if we asked to quiet down we do.
i just don't get how people can be rude like that to other people who are trying to enjoy themselves as well.

I'm quite a loud laugher as well but I always try to keep at a respectable noise level when I'm eating in restaurants and the like. Some places, like themeparks, I'd consider it okay to laugh really loudly. It really depends where you are.

I'm glad this happened tonight, because if it happened over the weekend, I'd be worried you might be talking about my mother. :B She had a "girls weekend" with her college friends, and she has one of the loudest laughs I've ever heard. And they laugh a lot.

I don't mind loud laughs, unless they sound super fake. Some people just laugh loudly; they can't control it. My mother, for example, and one of my best friends has the loudest laugh I've ever heard, and it's the funniest thing ever. She alternates between cackling and giggling and squawking at an insane volume and it's Loving hilarious.
Because of them, I'm quite fond of loud laughter. :P

Anywho, sorry you had to deal with that. Usually in that situation, I just wonder what was so funny and continue whatever I'm doing, but if it sounds like trying-too-hard laughter, then I'd understand where you're coming from. That gets very obnoxious very quickly.

Nah, you probably wouldn't, unless you're doing it where other people are trying to have nice conversations.

I think it's perfectly normal to be annoyed by loud people... even if they are having a good time. It's okay to have fun, but you still need to be aware of the people around you and be respectful of them.

I also think that people who repeatedly laugh loudly are just doing it for "look at me" purposes. I realize that sometimes people laugh loudly without restraint, but after you've done it once or twice there is no excuse for it... you should realize you are laughing loudly and take it down a notch out of politeness.

I pretty much laugh like @Bioshock does.
When you say something that really get's me laughing, I sound like a hyena. I usually don't relize how loud I can get when in a relaxed setting and haveing a good laugh. Sometimes I just take it over the edge ._.;;

I don't think i've ever laughed like that in public however. I'm usually the one to tell the people sitting with me to tone down their voice. xD

UGH, I know what you mean!
I was at my 2nd cousin's house for her birthday+sleepover, and her mom, her mom's two friends and her aunt would laugh every 2 minutes....and it was that stupid screeching overly loud laugh that you were talking about.

Also her mom kept loudly burping for like 20 minutes the next day -__-
Ew.

Well, I don't laugh really loud on purpose when people are trying to have a conversation and stuff, but if something reeally funny is said or happens, I just can't control being so loud. x:
But I understand where you're coming from. Like, if I'm in a movie theater or a nice place, I have to cover my mouth so I won't cause a scene or have everyone look and SHUSH me. x)

@chihuahua - Being a part of the group of loud laughers, oh well. If something's funny, I'll laugh. I'm also the smartass making remarks during church in response to - and during - his sermons. Sometimes people need to just chill a bit.

My mom has a really annoying laugh like that. It's really embarrassing when everyone stares at your group in public because that ONE person can't stfu. :c
