@twocents
aw, dont feel dumb
At this time of year around Remembrance Day (november 11th), us brits (dont know if anyone else does this) buy a poppy such as THIS!
Its a suggested donation of £1 for these, but you can give anything you want to, the charity is for war veterans.
Wearing a poppy (you pin it to your shirt/coat/jacket etc) shows your support for soldiers who have died, been killed or seriously injured whilst serving out in the war, and is to represent the poppy fields. (very sad)
Here in America they do it differently, but when I lived in Canada I remember having Remembrance Day and wearing those pin-on poppies they'd give us in class

I'm not wearing one on my HA, but I was wearing one in real life until yesterday. I lost it, unfortunately ;-; I'm probably going to get my sister to get me another one when she goes to take the subway to work tomorrow xD
I live in Canada as well, and the poppies have been popping up on people's jackets recently

awh no problem! id imagine its really easy to make one its nice that your showing your support, even if its not custom in your country ^^;
In America red poppies are worn around Memorial (last Monday in May) or Veterans Day(November 11), which are both holidays to honor war veterans. Whenever I see them the are sold by people at street lights, and they really don't cost a lot, $1 but probably less. I think a lot of people usually keep them in their cars, like around the rear view mirror. At least the people I know do. Really it just depends on the person and how they would like to celebrate.
We do it sometimes for Veterans Day, which is Wednesday. It's the American equivalent of Remembrance Day. Although it's not nearly as common over here. Most people in America wear flag pins or put flags out on their lawns here, at least in Texas, where I live.
