Have you had any -headdesk- moments whilst playing any pokemon game?

I'll get the ball rolling;
Well, It was about 5 years back, I was playing Pokemon ruby with my friend who was playing sapphire. At this point I didn't have much of a clue about pokemon, so I had to ask my friend about pretty much everything. So, I was making the first trek along the first route (forgotten the name, the long vertical one) and a pokemon appeared... (I had no pokeballs at this point either)... and it was a poochyena, but it was... yellow?
Now, me being me I totally freaked because I thought my game was faulty and I quickly asked my friend his advice on what I should do. It was only when he told me that the yellow poochyena was called 'shiny' and it was extremely rare, and to get a 'shiny' pokemon on my first ever pokemon encounter was even rarer. He told me to throw a pokeball and capture it....
damn I had no pokeballs and had no means of getting them, and, alas, I had to let my poochy go... ;w;
And to this day, after playing every pokemon game known to man, I have never encountered another 'shiny' pokemon...

So, your -headdesk- moments?

@pork
holy crap WOW.
That's incredible that your first wild pokemon encounter was with a shiny!

I love Poochyena/Mightyena. I'd be SO pissed to have had to let that go. :c
The only wild shinies I've encountered have been Zubats. I've caught 2 of them. Evolved one to a Golbat.

I hope I get some non-bat shinies. haha.

Wow. Only shiny I have captured besides the ohsored Gyarados is a shiny Shinx, per se it looks almost like the original except for yellow so.

Fail moments, hm. Probably when I was new and didn't know you should save in front of legendaries. And from the original red game I always failed to get all the stuff on the S.S Anne. xD

Ping me if you want a reply.

The only shiny I've ever seen was one of a Weepinbell. Wasn't paying attention and 1-hit KO'd it. ><

Sapphire, years ago. My friend and I were hunting for a horsea with a scale to finish his pokedex. I'm on my way to finding their part in the cave.

I FIND A SHINY GOLBAT!

GO GARDEVOIR!
Gardevoir uses Confusion!
The attack was super-effective!

The thing is left with a little over half hp at this point.

Gardevoir uses Confusion!
CRITICAL HIT!
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

The end.

Shiny Pokémon are the reason I carry at least three Masterballs on my main games.
And many, many Quick Balls. xD

I've only ever found my Shiny Ariados, can't remember if that Shiny Staravia was legit or not... Not that I care since I evolved it and it's flaming adorable.
But once I managed to get near to twenty on a chain, and some random Grass/Poison Pokémon breaks it.
YESSSS I'VE BEEN SITTING HERE FOR AGES AND FINALLY REACHED HALF-FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...

I did something similar.
I was playing Emerald, and I found a shiny Zubat. I had no idea what a "shiny" Pokemon was so my only response was "WTF WHY IS IT GREEN!?" and "killed" it

Fortunately I knew what a Shiny Pokémon was by the time I found my first one. xD
...wow. I rarely ever see Shiny Pokémon.

The only shiny Pokemon I've ever found before was a Marill. Found it on Sapphire, moved it to other games whenever I felt like restarting. My sister also gave me one of her shiny Zubats... my *headdesk* moment is once I forgot to move them before I restarted.

Never encountered a shiny other than the gyarados you're given in gold/silver/crystal/heartgold/soulsilver

However, while trying to catch Lugia, it killed itself five times with struggle. That move that is automatically used when there are no more moves left.

I decided to cheat a little bit and make all wild pokemons shiny. I ran around on Mount Silver in my SoulSilver edition hoping to find a shiny ponyta. And what did I get? Latios...and it was freaking shiny. Uuuggghh...I wanted a normal Latios, but I couldn't let it get away like that. So I decided to catch it. ._.

First things first-the gif in your forumset is loveing amazing. Hell yes full pokemon battle. <3

I've never missed out on a shiny pokemon-I think I'd send my DS through the window if that happened-but I did once love up my FireRed cartridge by going nuts with an Action Reply. I remember walking around Saffron City as a glitching piece of paper, and every time I tried to fly out, I'd end up inside the Pokemon Center. I had to completely wipe the damn thing clean before it went back to normal.

My first shiny was in good ol' silver version. <3 I was messing around in Kanto near Fuchsia city, and found a shiny Nidoran Female. I caught her and trained her and loved her until she was a level 100 Black and Pink Nidoqueen. But then I restarted and forgot to move her. .-.

Most of my fail moments are in Shoddy Battle. I always, always seem to forget that Empoleon has access to Grass Knot. x__x

Ya'll will be jealous of my shiny charizard I got on my second playthrough of Pokemon Firered, yo. He's legit as hell, I love him so hard.

I get a crapton of shiny Pokemon since I use the Poke Radar method on the swarm pokemon c: it's easy.

I've personally never had a really bad fail, other than that I cried the first time I saw a Golbat in Pokemon Blue because it scared me soo much ;o;

@Aya_57

Jeez, how long were you battling it for for it to use struggle every battle o__o
I don't think I've ever gotten that far into a battle with a legendary since I usually just false swipe them down to 1hp and put them to sleep as soon as I can xD

My moment is when I encountered Groudon on my Ruby. I ran out of all pokeballs except the one masterball during the encounter. The masterball I was going to use on Rayquaza. I managed to run away from the battle, and my game counted that as defeating Groudon. It wouldn't have been so bad if I had just rebooted my game since I had saved shortly before the encounter. Being in a stupid moment, I, of course, SAVED AFTER THE FAILED ENCOUNTER.

I've had a couple fail moments.

Fail Moment #1 - I had captured a wild shiny Golbat in my Crystal version and re-started my game out of boredom about a week later.

Fail moment #2 - I was playing my Pokemon Ruby a couple years back and I encountered a shiny Electrike. I was busy training my pokemon and was in a very zoned out state. By the time I realized the Electrike was shiny, it was too late. I had killed it. D;

Fail moment #3 - I got Ho-Oh through the GTS in my Pokemon Pearl version and decided to take it out into the wild just for the hell of it, just to see what its attacks looked like. I encountered a level 50 male Purugly and thought "Pfft, this'll be easy", thinking my level 50 Ho-Oh would knock it out. Instead, the Purugly uses Swagger and then managed to paralyze Ho-Oh with body slam. I wasn't all that attached to Ho-Oh and I didn't think it to be too big of a deal, so I didn't bother using a Full Restore or switching out.

Big mistake. Ho-Oh would either lay still and do nothing or it would be confused like hell, and when the giant fire bird could attack, the Captivate move Purugly used killed Ho-Oh's Special Attack stat, and the Purugly's special ability was Thick Fat, so Ho-Oh would barely leave a dent. The Purugly eventually killed it off with multiple slash attacks and body slams until Ho-Oh fainted.

A definite WTF moment for me. A freaking Purugly knocked out a legendary?? -shame-

However, I had other pokemon with me. So I weakened the Purugly a little further with another pokemon, captured it and decided to nickname him Juggernaut in honor of his feat.

But... yeah. The Legendary Fire Bird that created the Legendary Dogs of Johto was defeated by a fat kitty cat. Definite fail moment there.

Only real fail moment I had was when I was playing Ruby (or was it Sapphire?) and I was trying to figure out if I had caught this wild Pokemon already or not, since I had a bad memory and wasn't sure if I wanted to waste Pokeballs on it... and after I complained to my friend that I could never remember what Pokemon I had already caught or not, he said to me "You realize there's a little Pokeball icon next to the Pokemon's name if you already own it?" and I was just like "... wat?"

Seriously, it took me until the Ruby/Sapphire generation to realize the game shows you if you've caught a Pokemon already. I was so pissed at myself, because I would literally go through my Pokedex and write down the names of Pokemon I needed so in case I ran into them in the wild I'd know if I'd need them or not. I never noticed the gosh darn Pokeball icon until it was pointed out to me. I felt like headdesking at that moment at my own stupidity!

I think my only fail was when I discovered what a dry internal battery meant on my Ruby.
turns out that means no more time based events.
HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW MY BERRIES WOULDN'T GROW??
Only advantage is my pokeruss never. leaves.

But I lost a decent amount of berries to thinking they would grow then they didn't.

@Unforgotten
That's insanely lucky! A shiny starter??

... Honestly, the first time I saw the Red Gyrados I didn't even know it was a shiny! Then again, I was 10... and I think it honestly took me until Pearl-era to figure out what shiny pokemon were. That being said, I've never had the luck to see one, and every time I try to hunt for them in the form of legendaries, etc. I think the game knows and purposely makes them never show up.

After the Lake of Rage event in Pokemon Crystal, I encountered a Pink Butterfree. Here I was walking back to the town after capturing that annoying Red Gyarados, and I had Pokeballs but I wasn't thinking. I saw the pink, my hands were worn out from pressing buttons on that old Gameboy for four hours straight and I clicked Ran/Run or whatever. Never saw another Shiny in Crystal again.

I was lucky in Ruby. I ran into a Shiny Swablu, knocked it out but restarted the game thinking that I might run into it again. You know what? I did. Captured it, moved it to HeartGold where it is my only Shiny... Sad.

Not really a fail moment while playing Pokemon, but a fail moment caused by too much Pokemon.

Crossword puzzle.
They asked for a bird that died out. Four letters, already "Do.." standing there. And I, Claudius, clever as I am, write... Dodu (the German name of Doduo, btw) ... and later I'm wondering why another word doesn't fit into that other row, where the you of Dodu stands.

And when I realized my mistake, I facepalmed.

I haven't had one personally, but when my brother was playing emerald, he was fighting Groudon; but had saved so he could turn off, turn back on if he lost, and during one of these times, the Groudon ended up shiny. Great right? Well, he lost, and instead of letting himself faint and going to a Pokemon center again, so the pokemon would be shiny when he went back to it, he turned off the power on his gameboy.

Not one of his brighter moments...

Can't really remember if I've had any fail moments. I might have. Like those times when I restart my games, get as far as maybe the third city (or Cerulean in the case of Leaf Green) and realize I made a mistake and flicked the on/off button, and just after that remembering I hadn't saved.

Actually, in my current Leaf Green, I am still stuck in Cerulean City. You know why? Because smart me decided it would be so cool if I hacked items into my key items pocket that I normally wouldn't get in the game (such as Devon Goods and stuff like that). Little did I know that once I got to Bill's House, he would be all, "Oh, you have too many items in your key items, so I can't give the darn ticket to you." And without the ticket, I can't get into the house that was broken into. And without that event, I can't move on.
I could just restart the game, right. But I just like my team too much.

And the shinies. Encountered a few of those. Without using any cheating devices of course.

My first one was in Sapphire, I came across a Shiny Loudred in the Victory Road. I wasn't really paying attention when the battle commenced, so I missed the whole sparkly thing that comes with the shinies. So I spend maybe like ten minutes staring at the game, trying to figure out whether it was a Shiny or not (at that point I couldn't remember the difference between a shiny Loudred and a regular one). I caught it anyways, and turned out it was a Shiny. So yay me. Unfortunately, I no longer have that game file.

Second shiny was a Zubat in Diamond. Just walking through the Oreburgh Cave and it popped up. I was pretty excited until I found out I had only ONE Pokéball on me, and all my Pokémon were at least twice its level (it was on 15 or something, and my team was on the early 30s). Luckily enough my Onix had Sandstorm on it, so I used that up until the Zubat was one-more-hit-from-Sandstorm-then-dead away. I threw the Pokéball, crossed my fingers, and caught it. c: I think it's either still in that Diamond, or in my Platinum. If it's in my Diamond... bloody hell, because I gave that to my friend. But I did evolve it!

Couple months ago I was on a massive hunt for the Pokémon I was still missing from my Platinum Pokédex. Whenever I encountered something I didn't have, I caught it with one of the over 900 Master Balls I had on me. Well anyways, I was on the route right before Veilstone City, running through the grass and hoping to find a Kadabra. Instead, I come across a Shiny Lickitung. Caught it. And non-hindering nature too! YES! Then maybe the next day or so I was on that little island between Battle Area and Resort Area, and I came across a Shiny Pelipper. I had one already, but decided to catch it anyways. C: My sister was mighty jealous.

I think that's it for my legit shiny encounters.

That loveing sucks.

I've only had two encounters with Shiny pokemon. I came across a shiny Graveler in Diamond. At the time I had no idea why it was gold or even what a shiny pokemon was. (At the time I had never played a Pokemon game before. I bought it purely for nostalgia from my childhood) but I caught it anyways.

The second time, I encountered a shiny Lotad was while I was playing Sapphire. It was towards the start of the game where I only had two or three pokeballs. Unfortunately, I had leveled up my starter pokemon so much that anything would have been a 1hit KO. So two or three pokeballs didn't cut it on a full HP pokemon. :|

Pokemon fail moments...let me show you them.

Back when I had Crystal when I was a kid, I encountered a shiny Suicune. SUICUNE. I was going to catch that mofo, of course, but like an idiot I LACKED POKEBALLS. :C I HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED A SHINY SUICUNE SINCE.

My second fail was on Emerald. Another shinyfail btw. I was all "damnit I need an absol, gotta have it for dex completion maaaaaaan." I encounter a shiny FEMALE absol (which would have been great seeing as I wanted one that I could breed with my blaziken or mightyena at the time. Again with NUMBER OF POKEBALL fail.

My biggest fail? HeartGold, and a whole "WHERE ARE THE ? AND ! UNOWNS" freakout. It took my girlfriend telling me what room they're in. And I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND AN ! UNOWN. XD They're avoiding me like G Unown were. UNOWN HATE ME.

I think my biggest fail moment was actually catching a Shiny Machoke in Diamond and then shutting off the power. I had not even walked three steps away, and that was my first shiny.

But I caught a Shiny Magcargo the next day, which made me feel a lot better. And on SoulSilver I managed to see and catch a Shiny Rattata relatively early on in the game. Those are the only Shinies I have, besides my beloved Red Gyarados (which has a gentle nature. Why do all of my Gyrados have gentle natures???)

Another Pokemon fail was when I was breeding Eevees and I couldn't get a single female, and I just about lost it when I hit my twentieth male. So I was like, "WHY ARE YOU ALL BOYS??? I DON'T LIKE YOU, I LIKE FEMALES!!!" at a Christmas party my family was attending, in the middle of all of these adults. Not very smart.

I have the amazing luck of getting a shiny as soon as I get into Victory Road on my Crystal versions. Well, on my original Crystal verison, I've got a shiny Onix, then on my ROM Crystals (don't want to restart my current or pay $250 for a new one...) I've got shiny Sandslash and another shiny Onix. fosho.

My big fail moment was trying to EV/IV whatever my Garchomp, who I had already vitamined to the max. I spent like, two hours killing only Goldeen and Seakings and then she only gained +1 in Attack. dksanfdljkasf. I was so pissed.
I now understand why, but IV/EV training ruins the fun of the game so I don't even bother anymore.

@ShadowHunter

Oh god. The EV/IV thing reminded me of my failure earlier.
Uploaded SoulSilver with my Vitamin trained IV bred team, went on a destruction spree.
Got to Fortune Colosseum. Oh shi- THEY GOT MY DARK VOID DARKRAI.
Oh, and my Thick Club Marowak. And my 350 attack Poison Heal Breloom.
And my exploding Forretress.

Everything started going horribly when they got my Darkrai. xD
When I saw them get Forretress I started panicking and throwing status problems at her. I was terrified they'd explode and wipe out my team. If Explosion can take down an Onix, I don't want it anywhere near me.
Guess it could've been worse. Could've gotten Dusknoir. Her defence is ridiculous.

Warning to everyone battling at Fortune:
DON'T TAKE LEGENDARIES OR YOUR IV/EV TRAINED POKÉMON.
I've only ever beaten that place once.
Unless you have the best aim in history of course.

My biggest failure is... kind of odd. I had a lot of fun with the pokemon blue/red missingno glitch. I'd duplicate rare candies, proteins, tm's, etc. so I could beef up my poke'mon for the poke'mon Colosseum (the one for the 64, ancient stuff XD). Well it really, really messed my game up after a while. Every time I turn off the game boy, the game wipes itself. I start with a new game every time.

About a few days ago.
I drew an Arbok and was talking about it to my friend.
And this girl, outta nowhere goes "Arbok is psychic."

LOL.
I whispered "...No...it's poisonous."
It was seriously a fail moment.
What makes it even more of a fail is that it's a cobra, and cobras are venomous snakes.

Headdesk moment came when one of my Gamecube mem.cards wiped itself, taking one of my XD games with it.
I was all: ... ... A`_A ... Nuoooooaaaarghhhhh *wail* My jolteooonnnn~
There went over twenty four hours of work- I hadn't even fought the creepy girl with the altaria... Lovrina, was it... for the first time in that game.
I really lived that jolteon. He was over level fourty-three.

Then there's the shinies...
Diamond, a starly before I had pokeballs (and aside, one hit would have completely KO'd it) (and in the end, I'm not really complaiing, because encountering Denkou would have been different and I would have never gotten Miru)
Then... Heart Gold. Oh gods Heart Gold. I still have pictures of them. TT`_TT
A shiny sentret, then a shiny rattata, both before I had pokeballs, and my starter at level twenty-nine and thirty-eight respectively.
That was... Yeah.

Then there was me catching a shed skin ekans (on purpose) in Soul Silver, planning on resetting to before I got it if the Togepi didn't have either serene grace of female gender.
And I got attatched, which I honestly didn't mean to do, but knew in some part of me would probably happen.
...
It ended up pretty great for me though; a team winner with every single basic pokeathlon medal (several times over), half my gym badges to her name and a taste for psychic pokemon and dragons (which she eats for dinner), I think she's pretty cool.

And HG again, my metang, gotten as a beldum from Winner's path. I caught many, never seeming to be able to find the right one... and then, just randomly, realised the very first one I had caught was the one that I'd been looking for the whole time- the day, the nature... I almost literally put my head to the wall at that.
