     This thread is ONLY for people seriously interested in joining CHIC. We will no longer be critiquing everyone. I'm glad to see that you've decided to use more different hairstyles and makeup! It's always a good thing to show versatility. Avatar 1: I think this one is a little overwhelmed by the various textures you've used on it, and it seems like each item has its own, which makes the HA feel really heavy. It might be better to choose something subtler, in a neutral color, for the chest layer (instead of the fancy shirt with the ruffles). Maybe something white? The jacket is really hard to use color- and texture-wise so it's best to use clean layering to not clutter up the avatar. Try using one neutral, like white, with only two additional colors - the purple from the jacket and the pale green. Juggling four tricky colors is really hard, so don't be afraid to ditch one or two to make the ones you keep stand out more! c: Avatar 2: I feel this one is the strongest of the four, but it could still use some work. Firstly, I'd remove the anklets and ankle wraps as they just add unnecessary clutter to the feet. Then I'd replace the Lacy Brown Corset because it layers awkwardly under the other corset. It would be great if you could find something that matches the brown from the shoes! I think you could go without the sheer bowband as well, since you've got plenty of purple on the HA. Also because you've got the same bowband+wig combo on the fourth avatar. Avatar 3: Kudos for trying to work that dress, I think layering it with the leaves is a great idea! The head area needs some work here. I would go with completely different hair because the lion wig has like 3984739 colors on it and it's really voluminous. The leaves already add width to the avatar, so you don't need the same effect on the head. Try shorter, more subtle hair. I don't think you really need the headband. It goes better with RL inspired outfits, while yours has a tribal feel going on c: Avatar 4: Be careful when using the long halter tops since they layer incorrectly with a lot of waist and bottom items, like in this HA - you can see it peeking out on the HA's right side. It's best to use any skirt or shorts under it to avoid that. I lovelovelove coral but you've got too many shades of it on your HA. Maybe you could add a new color to the avatar? Maybe a bandana or a scarf in a different color (or a vest) and then the legs in that color too? @icecreambulb The only thing I'd change is the legs. I don't think you need the lederhosen socks. They don't really add anything and make her legs look shorter. Besides, you've got plenty of blue on the HA. Otherwise, I really like this! Oh, do you have a pic of the HA without stockings? I'm thinking maybe it would look good even without them C:

Hi, I just recently started paying more attention to how I make my HAs, in hopes of one day applying

 @October Conceptionally this is really quite nice. The chest seems a bit busy, and the silver jewelry seems a bit out of place. I'm guessing that you are trying to cover up the chestplate with the mass of jewelry, but I think you would be better off finding a belt for the waist and letting more of the chest show. I think that just the boots would be fine, without whatever it layered underneath them, because they fit rather snug and have that nice low heel. The face is cute, but I really think that the eyes could be cleaner, meaning that the eyeliner looks sort of messy, and you'd be better off with a different lip. As much as people are abusing the hell out the mocha lips, a nice lip layering with the mocha lips or if you are short on layers, just the maid's lipstick, would look much nicer.

 @baiyou've changed since the last time I looked! It's suggested that you save the HA you want critiqued in case you change. I'm going to critique this avatar:  Black and red is such an overdone color scheme, but sometimes people can make it work. Like this avatar Belladonna made. I do like that you used natural colored hair. I find your lip layering not very seemless. It would probably be a good idea for you to cruise Style File and see what subeta fashion is more about and which items look good. @raevynLUSH It's a nice touch to undead avatars. One thing I suggest is to not have two held items in one hand. Just because it doesn't quite make sense. It'd also ditch a few of the calavera bride items. Personally I wouldn't use an undead avatar in your application, though, unless it's like fantastic and something new. It's definitely cute though and can be improved. Just add a little something to make it stand out. @drawky This is a really cute avatar. And you're not wearing shoes so you must've changed. Unfortunately the color scheme on your current kind of makes it washed out. Cream and gold are just too close in color. I'm not sure how I feel about the shirts being layered over that corset only because it kind of cuts off the bow. I feel like the avatar in whole is kind of bare. Last Edit by:

Woooah, I actually really like this! Everything matches well, and the layering is nice; it all seems to fit andthatCOLOUR SCHEME. ;D I loveee how the sheers on the legs match the colour made my combining the Underling Cinch thing and .. well, whatever else you have under there LOOOL! c: I also like how you used accessories, namely the ones on the wrist; they really help this avatar in my opinion!! About the only thing I can really see is the red from the red cloth belt thing doesn't match exactly, but, I have a personal vendetta against them since the art is like 4389 years old. xD The feet/ankle layers are also a little cluttery; I think it's mostly the sock things. Perhaps you could try to find another red ankle item that isn't so obtrusive, or you can try to layer them under sheers to make the transition more seamless. But that's my bias to take it lightly; otherwise this is a really nice avatar! @puddin_Collector, The colour scheme is nice, but you have some issues in terms of layering. Firstly, it does not make a whole lot of sense to wear your bangles over a long-sleeved shirt, plus I don't really see any more hints of that bright yellow in your avatar; so it just looks random. (you have a different yellow thanks to the pants) Those pants.. idk again, my own bias, but I have never seen someone make a killer avatar using those pants. They are bulky and don't fit right. I would nix the pants and instead work with their colour via sheers in the legs, or just work with the lighter navy blue you have in there already. I also see you're using three items from the Rainyday Verdure line; now three items isn't toooo bad, but just be careful with how many items from one set you use. Those lips, there's some sort of weird line on the far corner; try setting your default mouth to "blank" or "lilpout" to fix any line errors when using wearable lips. C:

If you'd like, I'll give you some advice that goes for most of your avatars on Style File, especially Bubblegum Pop, Minty Fresh, Go Rams!, Fall is in the Air, Seeing Red and your current- you have a tendency to overwhelm your HAs with too many items that are all of various shades of one color, thus making the avatars look really messy and even cluttered in some areas. I've told a lot of people who have asked for help on this board before, and I still think the same: it is better to not match a color at all than to use an item that matches it but is completely unsuitable for the HA and throws it off. In my eyes, and I'm sure in many of my fellow members', the silhouette/form and style of the avatar is high above endless color matching. For example here:  I think you could have gone without the orange entirely. The shoes and turtleneck have old art that does not look good with the rest of the HA and make it look worse, which is a shame because I think you did a good job matching the red from the Dirndl Bodice! c:  This one I believe has the most potential. I like that you noticed the dirty white color of the horns and chose the perfect top to go with it. The torso looks really good, but still, I think you could do without all the items on the legs and feet, and just replace them with a simple pair of shoes, for example the Swanky Swanky Pumps! Since you have a GA, you have A LOT of possibilities for matching unusual colors in the leg area without cluttering. If you use a pair of button up leggings, and then you can use up the THREE pairs of pantyhose on top of them, I think there is not color that you couldn't match that way. All those are great staples for any wardrobe. For some other suggestions - I would avoid using the lace-up sandals because they are like instant clutter. Also, you should consider using some default eyes because having no eyebrows makes the face really really empty and unnatural. I would like to see you try and go really simple - a nice shirt/corset, a neutral colored skirt/shorts and legs in the same color as the shirt.

Thanks @slaVIC & @Maja for your input. I do tend to like to layer my avatars. I tend to either lean towards very simple, or very layered looks. I guess I need to find my middle area. I personally feel color matching is very important just on how I personally look at the HA. So I will probably always keep the color matching. I have noticed that a lot of people don't like the lace up sandals..... I think they are adorable I love to pair them with skirts, because I person don't like how the avatars legs look So this lets me cover them up with out wearing paints. I will try to create a more simple look though Thanks again you two for your input, much appreciated

 my first chic critique eeeeeeee @blondeqt I like the colors and think it's a pretty good start, but there are some things that don't seem quite right. - if you still have a chest layer available, try to make the anechka tank (i think) match the flower a little more. the tank is more of a burgundy while the red is, well, red. either that or change rings. maybe  might work- whatever the black thing is peeking through the holes in the shirt, layer the anechka top over it. it's really hard to make two colors work under those slashed shirts 'A' - I can see what you were trying with the legs, but it looks like it's more of an in-between color. Try for the basic reddish color from the anechka top. I think it would pop out nicely against the slashed shirt. - The pearls really clash with the awesome street vibe you're showing through most of it, so maybe opt for something black, like  ?- Now my least favorite part, the face. The eyes from the colonial tin are close but not quite the same color. Try some of the sui eyeshadows instead. I think blue over green works really well, but feel free to try your own combos. Again, you have another case of close but not quite with the lipgloss. I'd actually leave it as a default, maybe lilpout. Overall, it's really a nice avatar. Just try to be cohesive in your color and item choices.

@blondeqt ooh, that is definitely an improvement! The legs are still a little light, though. I've been trying to find a leg combo for it, but it's hard for me, too. xD Make sure you layer your jewelry OVER your shirt but UNDER your hair.^^; Also, as a general rule, make sure when you use the sui eyeshadow that your eyes line up with it. right now there's a visible gap between the makeup and the eye. Still, you understood the basics and were willing to try! Effort like that is always good. ♥ @boutique It's not too far off, actually. c: - Make sure the ribbon layers correctly with the hair. Right now it looks awkward, so I'd change the hair. Maybe salon cer or braids? - Unless it's a revealing outift throughout, make sure patches of skin like the one between the sweater and shorts are covered. - Actually, I'd swap the sweater for something else and make the legs a bit more vibrant like the ribbon. - Those flats are soooo close but just a bit off. Swap them for something like the simplistic blue flats. Idk if they'd match though. I love the start you've gotten to. c:

 Av #1: I like the idea behind the feminine/hard dynamic, but what sticks out the most to me here is the gold mixed with the gunmetal. Personally, I'd remove the gold accessories, even if you have to change the hair...it's a really out of place color for me. If you'd prefer to keep it, I'd change out the gunmetal for a different color with your "hard" items. The pink legs look messy to me...maybe try to make them burgundy to match the color on the tip of the shoe? Also, the blue in the earrings don't match and it stands out. If you can't find a perfect match or use a different color, forgo the earrings. Av #2: The arm and leg layering is too messy for me. Simplify it or make sure your layered items match up exactly on the edges, etc. Also, I'd focus on making the arms match the leg color you currently have which matches the hair piece and hair streak. Av #3: Looking good. However, you need to really work on making your salon hair look natural. Otherwise, again, the burgundy on the shoes isn't being matched. Match it or change shoes. Av #4: The eye layering doesn't mesh and makes your expression look really odd. The gold on your arm and legs could match your necklaces better and I think the arm tattoo adds too much clutter. If you're going to clutter the neck a bit, make sure the other areas are simplified. Also, the shoes don't work for me, wrong color brown. Last Edit by:

@Luscious Thanks very much for the critiques! I think my main issue is that I don't find colour matching as essential to avatar making as most people, so I'll definitely pay more attention to that c: (and try to keep my love of accessories at a minimum. I'll admit that's a bad habit of mine!) |

 HelloImEinstein i think the dress + jeans look really awkward together. so i would lose one of those. nothing really matches except the dark grey in the scarf and shoes. i dont think this is matched enough for a simple avatar (which should be impeccably matched), or interesting enough for a "street" look. i also feel like the arm things are very random here and it kind of makes me confused as to what kind of "look" youre going for. but yeah, first i would decide what style you want to make this avatar (im assuming you want a real life street style?), and really concentrate on that. add some sort of interesting layering that would make people stop to look at it (i.e. some kind of wow-factor). and try not to add unnecessary items like that dont fit the style (like the arm things).NARNIA i think youve done well with that dress, which i know is very limiting. the legs look great, imo. i think the only things that are bugging me here is the hair color, for one. not sure if you cant tell on your monitor, but its no really the same color as the tea set hair. the tea set has a less saturated tone, and a lighter high color. if you didnt use an eyedropper, then use one. the other thing is the rainyday eyes. it just has this bit of blue that isnt repeated elsewhere, so its kind distracting. aside from that, the only other thing thats bothering me is whatever else it is on your chest (im guessing those are the sparrow tattoos?). i just dont think you need them since that wig covers quite a bit of shoulder already. it just adds unnecessary color. especially when black isnt even in the color scheme.  Hello lovelies. I was wondering if I could get a critique on I've recently just gotten back into filling out my wardrobe and redoing my style-file, and CHIC makes me rather intrigued. :3 Mostly I'm just trying to pin what my strengths and weaknesses are at the moment. Thanks! ^^ EDIT: I added a third one, only because I wasn't sure if it was a good enough sample and because I didn't think anyone had gotten to this yet.  @blondeqt - Those lips are lopsided and weird. Not a criticism of you, just those lips in general, as an item, in any context. Next point - the tights don't look like pants. Add a pair of shorts or a skirt or something, even if it's short. If you could have it match the shirt in color, that could look good. The sandals are more yellow than the shirt, and I'm not a fan of the black tights peeking out. If you could find some very dark brown boots to match the belt, I think it would look better. Also, I would like this better without the lightning bolt eyes. They just don't seem to go with this HA. @EMILY HA One: The pearls over the neck scarf look weird, and the pink isn't used anywhere else anyway so I'd just remove it. Add one of those empire belts (the belty ones not the ribbony ones) to cover the line from the Lililace tights. I'd say gray or pink, whichever matches the tophat better. I like that you covered up the brown in the Jungle Damsel shoes, but the cream still sticks out as not matching anything else. Again, I'd use gray or pink to match the hat. The blue garter is also random. You could add in white and use the bridal garter, or bring in blue somewhere else. The wig layering doesn't work well because they are such different colors. Those lips are awkwardly drawn and I'd avoid them in general. They're lopsided. And if you want to bring in the darker black of the gloves and shoes, make more of a contrast between the shorts and the tights. Layer something under the tights to make the legs darker. Or lighter, actually, to match the hat band. In fact, I think that would look better. HA Two: The eyeshadow is a much brighter pink than the softer pinks you use elsewhere, and it stands out too much. The seaweed wrap is kind of random because there's no other cream. Use the black ankle wraps instead of the leg warmers; the leg warmers are chunky and don't fit the style you've created here. Add in some gray jewelry to match the ties on the wings. @Rann-san - I don't like the combination of the red feathers and the red millinery ribbon; they are at the same time too similar and too different. And you have a lot of colors going on here. I think it would look better without the red from the feathers; just change the legs to match the millinery red better. I don't think the copper leggings are doing anything good here, either. just add a black skirt, or maybe that top is long enough to work. But I actually like the idea of this HA; it definitely has potential! I love the pearls and lacy top contrasted with the leather jacket. Leather + lace = hot. @burgundy HA One: I'd take off the eyelashes. Other than that, cute, face-wise. My biggest problem with this are the toe claws. Not at all necessary, and I think those boots actually work well here. Don't cover them up with the claws! I actually love the textures you are blending here, with the Leafeather thing, the Sackcloth Bodice, and the chain mail. Another problem is that the purples, from the lips to the bustier to the shorts, do not match. So maybe use different lips (don't have to match) so it doesn't look like you are trying to match the bustier. And either work with sheers or maybe try another pair of shorts (aren't there 2 purples?) to match that better.HA Two: I love this one! The hair mimics the poncho fringe and it's awesome. But I'd take off the sheer stockings (those things that come to a point above the Lederhosen socks; I may have the name wrong.) You have a lot going on in the legs, and it's rather busy. I would even remove the Lederhosen socks. I also think this would look nicer with a smaller nose to fit the delicate look of this avatar. HA Three: Cute! I love the hair + the hair color + the bow! Again, I don't like the big nose, but that's just a personal thing; I never use anything other than 2 or 6 and I grudgingly accept 1 on occasion. Take off the Galactic Empress boots. They're not needed and they make the gray boots look weird. Maybe add some neck bling? A pearl necklace or some silver chains perhaps. But yeah, overall, I think you have potential, for sure. The biggest weakness I see is adding on too many things in one area; your HAs can get a bit busy. But you have some great ideas and I love the playful, bold style you have, particularly in the first two HAs.

  the more I HATE it.I tried doing different layering/eyes to see if I felt better:  and I do, BUT, I feel like it could be much, much better. The shoes are KILLING me, I can't find a blue or black I like enough, and the face is STILL killing me, because the aqua hasn't been dulled by a black..oh, that gives me an idea...  OOOH! I like that face much more... but onto what's really bothering me. I really, REALLY want to use the corset, however, to get the matching I want, I have to use the roq candy sheer top, with a lingerie top, so I have to hide the aqua sleeves with some sort of arm covering, and all I can think to use is a jacket, and it looks seriously odd if it's tucked into the corset, so I have to leave it out, which is okay, because you can still see the corset, but I'm afraid maybe the jacket looks odd? Alos...the feet, GOSH THE FEET! I don't know how to fix them. Any suggestions?!?! Art :: cads::orangecake::sien::Slytherin::Cherish::pyoko ::

 OKAY! hi fellow (former?) cult members! i dont know if im booted out of the cult or not (i still have an account and all, but idk), i have been unactive for like 6 months or something  I WISH TO BE IN STILL! but hey, i dont blame the admins for my idleness. however, now when im back, i believe i need some of that chic crit-goodness. im a bit rusty and i dont want to get behind. not sure if this is the right place to ask if im still in the cult though? if it isss, please crit me, and bring it doges, you know i can take it!
