Gotta hatch `em all!

*twitch* Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr *f-bomb* Maury and his *f-bomb* show *f-bomb* promoting these *f-bomb* dickless *derogatory male term* who screw multiple women and those *f-bomb* *female derogatory term* who *f-bomb* cheat on their boyfriends and parade it on Maury's *f-bomb* show!

...I feel better....

In a calmer, more civilized manner, allow me to expand on my rather blunt opinion of this practice.

Scenario: A TV show opens to a scene. Female A claims parenthood of Male A. Male A denies it, requiring a DNA test. Upon finding out the child (CHILD, aka innocent stuck in the middle of this debacle) does NOT belong to one half of his ancestry, the Male A proceeds to leap about on stage screaming, cheering and calling Female A a slew of derogatory slurs while Female A sobs her heart out. Next week, follows tests of Males B, C, D, E, F........... Find out also that Male A has gotten Females B, C, D, E and F pregnant in the process of greasing his pole. Next week? Return to beginning of paragraph and read. Week after that? Repeat to infinity.

Debate: Do you think this is both morally wrong and highly damaging to the already shaky morals of young people today?

Personal Opinion?
By giving it attention and spewing it all over national television, it encourages more people to act that way because it becomes a socially accepted way to get their 15 minutes of slandered fame on national television. It is perfectly fine for a young man to make seven separate women pregnant. It is perfectly acceptable for a woman to cheat and get pregnant with another man, despite going steady with A at the time.

These are the morals that these shows are encouraging us to believe, and in no way does it educate any of the Females or Males watching the dangers of taking multiple partners in rapid succession.

In a time where people of younger ages are having sex, this instant fame on such shows feeds the immaturity of both sides. Males feel they don't need to be held accountable so long as they don't get caught. If they manage to dodge the bullet this time, it is an instant ego boost, which he learns nothing from. Furthermore, all of his relatives feel perfectly justified in heaping abuse on the other side.

Females find out that the Male they were having a fling with never told them about the multiple partners he was keeping. At some point, he has too many babies to support and the courts cannot force him to shell out child support for all of them because it is not physically possible. So now the foolish young woman has a mouth to feed and no support. It's perfectly fine and cool, because it happened to that girl over there, and therefore can never happen to you. It's always somebody else, until it's you.

Edit:

Perhaps I am overreacting, but Maury USED to be more like Montel, with a variety of subjects and guests. Now, it seems like every single one of his shows are a rinse and repeat of this scenario. And while they may not deliberately have promiscuous sex just to get on the show, it is still a parade of mockery, insults and the like, it still shows this kind of thing with such regularity, that it has lost its shock value and becomes an acceptable and repeatable story. No one is learning from it. Sure people show scorn for this thing. But it's certainly not stopping it.

Do not stand before me and say that God does not approve of homosexuals. They were born gay, which means God made them that way. To say that God disapproves of that which He Himself made is to say that God is not perfect. If God is not perfect, then he is not God.

I really do not think it is feasible to believe that someone is going to go get multiple women pregnant in the interest of starring on Maury for a day... The people who get to be on these shows, are not there because they saw the show and thought it would be a cool idea. They got there from sleazing around, which I cannot really imagine such a show would promote them to do any more than they already are.

What the hell. I don't know what kind of Maury you're watching, but if anything, the show does the exact opposite. It is a display of shame and whorishness, and they're pretty much debased and ridiculed on national TV. If that gives anyone the impression that their actions are "perfectly acceptable" then... well... I'm interpreting it wrongly.

It's pretty strong imagery to think that if you sleep around you'll be paraded around on tv like a person of questionable reputation and ridiculed into a teary-eyed emotional breakdown. Honestly, if that doesn't educate someone I don't know what will.

If anyone is so naive as to take any of the messages you've interpreted from the show, they're probably already that way sexually inclined to begin with.

@Alkuna

I think you're overreacting a bit.

These shows are staged to be more dramatic. These people know what they are getting into, their reactions are not that genuine, nor are their situations so extreme in reality.

That said, I highly doubt people watching this think much of the guests on the shows beyond "Man, what a bunch of freaks, I can't imagine my life being this stupid." No one sees these people as normal or as role models.

I think you're overreacting. The baseline to all of this would be parental guidance.

Television is meant, for the most part, to entertain. There are shows for every age and/or maturity group. It's up to the parents of said "young people" to oversee their child's TV (and video games and Internet browsing, actually) viewing until they do know what is "right" and "wrong", at least in the case of sex. For the most part, people are very much aware that what they are watching is staged, and thus not any reflection at all as to how the real world works.

Those young people who have "multiple partners in rapid succession," I dare say 99% of the time, do it knowing full well the possible consequences. With the "it won't happen to me" mentality? Probably. But they still know, and still take multiple partners because that's just how they are.

In short, the creators of these programs are in no shape or form promoting these actions. They are creating a comedy that actually amuses some people; hence why it's still around.

Also, I don't know about you, but this would be quite a turn off to me and the whole mimicking whatever I saw during this show.

Television doesn't cause irresponsible behavior in an average person with a decent set of morals. Watching tv shows like this may not be the best thing for a person's IQ, and I'm sure there are more valuable things they can be doing with their time, but that's their choice.

They have to sign up to be on the show. They know exactly what they are in for, and what to expect. It’s not like they go out and stuff people in bags and drag them to the show and force them to attack each other.

I think most are staged, I’m sure those people are compensated for coming up with their story, most stories probably aren’t even true. Who knows. Either way, I have no sympathy for what those people put themselves through, they’re just appealing to the public’s taste.

I think what happens on the shows aren’t going to help or hurt. If people have low morals to start, and are taking what they see at face value, that’s their problem.

The same with certain children playing violent video games – most will be no more violent than any other children, but some may take things to the extreme or distort reality, but that’s no fault of the game, it’s the fault of their environment and the lack of parenting.

Parents should always be there to either monitor, or explain certain things their kids watch/see/or play. Television isn’t responsible.

For the ones that aren't staged, the children have no say in what goes on. Dragging a 13 year old onto a show
or even just participating in a show regarding a just-born child... Well, I just feel bad for those kids.
I mean, video like that doesn't just go away. Ever.

T.V. ain't to blame. People have to sign to get on Jerry and Maury, they know what they're going in to, and their own actions of calling in and getting on the shows give the shows the rights over the situation anyway... not to mention the ignorant situations they're in, they put themselves in, and putting them on stage like animals and showing the world how ignorant those people really are is acctually pretty hilarious to me... it can also wake people up who live simallar lives to those on the show, watching and saying "Damn... do I really look like that when I say that stuff?" Ahahahahahah....

The only thing about this I can feel horrible about is the kids. The parents should be exploited, for their ignorance and frankly spineless and stupid ways... because its funny and even educational (HAHA!) ...but I really feel bad for the kids. I feel the more exploited they are, the more they'll see it when they grow up and they'll be scared with their family's actions forever.

I love ignorance, ignorant humor, sick humor, all that... but there's a time and place for everything.

And on Springer isn't the place to be ignorant when you're gambling with a child's life, future, and reputation.

My cousin was on that show I'm embarrassed to say. She went because she suspected her husband of cheating (which he was) and she had a meltdown and said it was over blah blah blah. She's still with him to this day. The show paid them for coming on, set them up in a really nice hotel, did her makeup, and paid for all travel expenses. I guess if you can get over the humiliation it's worth it but I couldn't.
