Sorry for the long title, wasnt sure how ells to call it.
What I'm wanting to know, is do you think its wrong to be able to tell a parent exactly what a baby will look like, even as an adult? Things to consider, the child isnt what you expected, would you want to change its appearance? Would that be fair to the child, to know ahead of time what they will look like as adults, is it fair to others to know what the baby will look like when its born? The scenarios are endless from good to bad, say two people have a surrogate and carefully pick the biological parents of the child to match with the couple wanting the child, but the child looks nothing like them, or maybe because of this possible future technology we can start weeding out unattractive children. No more ugly people? I mean c'mon on here people, you find out your child has a deformation, or just flat out isnt a looker, and the rest of the world has begun a revolution of only having model worthy children. What would you do? Consider yourself, consider the child, consider what the earth would be if we all knew the babies appearance ahead of time.
Also, consider the good, deformations that could cause severe damage could be weeded out ahead of time, prehaps even alterations made to the baby that wouldn't be entirely bad. We could have a better understanding of human heredity from all this.
So the question is, what is your views on this?

Also, keep in mind, I read no article on this being possible any time soon, it just came up in my biology class and thought I would ask on here. c:

I dont like the whole "model worthy children" thing. I hate that in order to be beautiful you have to be a size 2. Not every one is a size 2, and what ever happened to beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people like their mates to have "more to love" hence the term chubby chaser. I didn't realize I liked "fat" men till one night in an argument my fiance, who weighs all of 140 pounds called me out on it, by saying "I can't help it if you like fat men" then I realized, every guy I dated was bigger than me, and yet I'm gonna be marrying someone who's though taller than we, he's smaller weight wise.

Human curiosity for one, and really does it matter? You probably reply to all manner of debates that will never affect you in your life so why is this one so different?

Well, for one, we already have plenty of topics on genetic modification, which could be used to actually determine the future looks of a child.

And what about the couples who purchase donated sperm based on the donor's features: hair, skin, eyes, athletic ability, personal history?

i've never met a parent that admitted their average kid was ugly. it has crossed my mind if they truly felt they were good looking or if they were just being moral. i think a lot of people have this experience and internal questioning.

i'm not sure of the value of having all beautiful children in our society. while the aesthetics would be obvious, the bulk of the most influential, intelligent people on this planet are less than good looking, imo. so clearly, my opinion is that once we start finding more value in a child's future beauty, the more stupid we are willing our future to be.

oh, and for the record, my opinion doesn't state that beautiful people are not smart or valuable. however, using beauty as a means to cull the future population could definitely have an adverse affect on our educational advancements.
