I think it'd be a good idea to add the first second language option as Russian, then.

IN Soviet Russia....

Were there any plans to have a language-changed option to begin with?

Quote:
subeta.net has 102213 traffic rank in world by alexa. subeta.net is getting 10761 pageviews per day and making USD 34.28 daily. subeta.net has 131573 backlinks according to yahoo and currently not listed in Dmoz directory. subeta.net is hosted in United States at THEPLANET.COM INTERNET SERVICES data center. subeta.net is most populer in RUSSIAN FEDERATION. Estimeted worth of subeta.net is USD 25024.4 according to websiteoutlook

These people can't even spell or use proper caps. How do we take it seriously?
(If it is written by people who are not fluent in English...That's another story.)

I don't think people actually write it. I think bots do it. As far as I'm aware there isn't, that's what I'm suggesting. I think it should probably just be one language in the chat areas (forums, sb) but I don't see why the actual content shouldn't be translatable?

@Brenton I don't think other languages will ever be allowed, because of the problems moderators would face.

Although this is an old post, I would imagine it still applies: click here

@Brenton

Im a bit confused. So you are suggesting that Russian should be a second language on Subeta? If thats what you are saying, it shouldn't be in feedback?

If they allow one language such as russian to be allowed. Other will want their language to be allowed too. Not possible.

Edit:
Found this post that was a suggestion for other languages on subeta.

I'd much rather them hire more staff members to help with current functions and new events/items rather than dealing with translating posts from a bunch of other languages. You can use other languages in smail, so I don't really see what purpose it would serve on the forums besides making people feel left out of conversations/threads and requiring further moderation.

@Brenton
Especially with a language SO different than English, there would still be the original problem of having people who work for subeta who know how to read and write in romanized russian as well as cryllic. I am pretty sure no one on staff has that ability, and even if there was one they are not online all the time.

This is something I don't care to happen because I would rather they use their time better.

No thank you. Subeta should STAY english only, because seriously, it would get totally down if it would be multi-languaged.

And wtf why russian? German was once so close to being the world-language, if any other language should be added it should be german XD This site doesn't know a thing *haha*

Yeah, I don't really know where it gets it's information. According to our statistics (which are legit) it goes US, canada, united kingdom, etc.

Funny enough, another site of ours (valenth) is actually popular in other countries.

Honestly, if Subeta were to ever implement second languages on here, I think they should go with Spanish or French because a lot of people speak those languages here. Infact, I've only come across a couple of people who say they speak Russian.

Not saying they SHOULD make the site multilingual, just saying Russian = Not first choice.

So, no. Besides, your info is wrong, OP.

Considering UAs can only be hired in the USA, the number of capable people able to read russian fluently is too low for the outcome.

I don't think Subeta will implement another language nowhere in the next 5 years, but I see a lot more people speaking German than any other foreign language.

I haven't found found more than like two people fluent in french (that I didn't know from anywhere else) in over 3 years and they weren't even active members lol

Everyone seems to be getting pissed of that I even brought this up haha. I'm not saying it absolutely should happen no questions-no discussion-etc. I just thought the notion of the site being multilingual was worth bringing up.

I haven't seen anyone "getting pissed" about this feedback, so I don't know who you're referring to @Brenton.

But Keith has said before that Subeta doesn't have the budget to hire translators and moderators who speak more than one language fluently. And like Reya said, if there is spare money in the budget for more staff members, I'd rather that money go to hiring staff members for the art department, UAs, etc. than just paying for someone who has the ability to read and write Russian.

I think that hiring someone who knows Russian would be rather unnecessary, considering Keith has pointed out that Subeta, in fact, is not most popular in Russia, but is most popular in the U.S., Canada, and UK, all of which are areas where at least most people are capable of writing and reading English.

Lol, I'm from Russia and I know about 50 Russians on Subeta. Probably I know not all of them, but I don't think, that it is more than 100 Russians.
Subeta can not be popular in Russia just because of language. Most of Russian teens don't know english and adult people isn't interesed in petsites.
So, your suggestion isn't good.
Sorry for bad English.

Subeta isn't big enough to justify hiring new people just to translate things. This is not a corporation that has money to throw around. Can you imagine having to translate all the items and their descriptions? There are a lot of freakin' items on here.

Besides if Russian children/teenagers don't really speak English enough then maybe being on a site that's only in English would both motivate them to learn it better and help them learn. @Brenton

On a personal note, I would love that because I'd be able to practice my Russian.
On a more practical note, I really don't think Subeta is big enough to be hiring mods/user admins to translate.

I don't think the site is honestly big enough right now to warrant translating into other languages. If Sub had the spare cash I'd rather it be funnelled back into the site.

I don't think people are "getting pissed," I think they just don't agree.

Subeta doesn't really have the resources to hire translators or mods to accommodate more languages. Furthermore, if Subeta gets translated into Russian, why not German? Or Spanish? Or French? Or any other language? If it's translated into one, other people are going to want it translated into their language, and that's really not feasible. I think Keith has stated often enough that Subeta is an English-only site that it's incredibly unlikely to ever happen.

If Subeta has the extra money (which I don't think it does right now), I would rather see it put back towards the site in some way instead of expanding in a rather unnecessary direction.

@Brenton And how do you imagine that? In many places of Subeta (for example trades) you need to contact with another users. And how will two different languaged users discuss trade offers? If no one doesn't know anothers language?

@Alaska Are you learning Russian? Isn't it very hard for you? IMHO, it is hard even for Russians. Because I'm Russian and don't know much people, that can speak and write in Russian good. Or, maybe, most of my compatriots stupid and don't know their first language.

Which is why I think even is Subeta decided to become multilingual, it would be better to start off with an easier language.

I have no idea how old you are, but I can tell you this is the same situation for any language. Seriously, seeing teenagers write and talk is...scary.

I'm french and I struggle finding people my age being...literate. Not book-smart, but just...able to form correct sentences.

It's not because they're stupid. It's because they're lazy.

According to the front page subeta has 102,486 users so 10 really isn't that many in the grand scheme of things. As well as what everyone else has already said.

I echo the Norwegian sentiment! After all, about 4-5 million people speak it in the total population of the world (approaching 7 billion), so it's clearly the language with priority should Subeta ever decide to introduce new languages!
