{... what.}

Quote:
Did Mike Huckabee just flush his presidential aspirations down the proverbial toilet? Well, if American mainstream media has an ounce of journalistic gumption remaining the answer most certainly would be “yes”. Huckabee has just been caught on video, at a Christian supremacist conference, stating that Americans should be forcibly indoctrinated at gunpoint. The organization which hosted the “Rediscover God In America” conference, United in Purpose, has edited Huckabee’s comment from footage of his speech, but not before People For The American Way’s Kyle Mantyla captured the unedited footage, in which Mike Huckabee states, “I almost wish that there would be, like, a simultaneous telecast, and all Americans would be forced–forced at gunpoint no less–to listen to every David Barton message, and I think our country would be better for it. I wish it’d happen.”

David Barton is the leading promoter of a brand of falsified American history altered to support the claim that America was founded as a Christian, rather than a secular, nation.

..... whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.

If this isn't an enormous 'love YOU, CONSTITUTION!', I'm not sure what is. Freedom of speech and thoughts? That's for LOSERS! Threats into changing your religion and beliefs are where it's at! Woooooo! USA! USA!

I was alarmed when he ran for the first time, but now... Hahahah, oh man, I can't wait for my absentee ballot to show up so that I can vote this guy out of the running.

What do you guys think?

(Oh hell, I'll bite the bullet here. Flame me if you must, but wanting to hold someone at gunpoint because they don't agree with you? #wtf should be notified.)

i didn't gather that he wanted people held at gun-point because they failed to agree with him. i thought the words simply stated that he felt individuals would be better people if they were forced -- at gun point no less -- to listen to a message. i'm not understanding how this infers that the listener is in disagreement?

while i agree that his statement may be a bit extreme, i think it's a mistake to take it in a completely different, explosive direction and misconstrue what was actually being said.

i personally wish there would be, like, a simultaneous meal that all americans would be forced -- forced at gunpoint no less -- to eat a BLT sandwich from the sunrise cafe in springdale, arkansas.

i'm not sure how my sentence would be any less sinister? or is it?

=.= Oh wow.

Although, I suppose people who aren't in front of the cameras say crap like this all the time. He is only human. Admittedly a stupid one.

And @shatzy I totally agree with you but I think the religion aspect gets peoples hackles up automatically these days which is a sad thing ):

I have to agree with Shatzy, while it wasn't a wise political move to say that and I already dislike Mike Huckabee as a candidate so I don't intend to vote for him in the first place, I don't necessarily think he was advocating pushing his beliefs onto the populace. Nevertheless, considering that it was televised and recorded, it was kind of foolish for him not to realize that something of this nature was going to raise people's hackles and for him to act accordingly with that in mind.

Not pushing his beliefs on people? Why would people who agree with him need to be at gunpoint to listen?

What about vegetarians? There's always going to be somebody who doesn't agree or doesn't want to be a part of something, and since I'm not in his head, I can only be 99% positive those are the people he suggested be "at gunpoint".

@kylias

my point was to illustrate that his comment was probably more tongue-in-cheek and less evil and against freedom as it's being painted.

Its quite sinister to me, whether its food (I have deadly food allergies), or god talk, or anything else really, I'm actually quite terrified of someone putting a gun to my head.

I'm not American, so perhaps my mistrust and fear of guns is due to a lack of familiarity, if I encountered guns every day, or if I owned one myself, I might find it less serious to be threatened with having one shoved in my face.

Finally, even if the quote didn't involve guns at all, I find it quite insulting. Huckabee is, in essence, saying the people he wants to rule over are either stupid or ignorant. Why does he assume that people haven't heard Barton's claptrap and already dismissed it? I mean seriously? Also does he really think the American people are that ignorant of their own history?

Wow, this really shows his true character if you ask me. Not only was the statement laced with the crazy notion that being forced at gunpoint to do something is a good thing, but I find it utterly disrespectful to those who are not Christian and do not wish to be even without the gun reference.

Jackass.

I'm not Christian and still took it as being a joke albeit a careless and thoughtless one.
Granted, it was an extreme one, and I don't condone it, but I don't necessarily think he's advocating forcing people at gunpoint to listen to his viewpoints. Nevertheless, considering how extreme some of his views are, especially in regards to the video posted I probably wouldn't vote for him anyway simply because I've never agreed with his political viewpoints to began with.

But how can you be sure he was joking ? Sounds like he was pretty convinced.

And @shatzy I'd resent it and call it sinister, because tomatoes are loveing nasty. I would not be a better person for eating one, slimy icky goop things.

Huckabee shot his career in the foot with this, I think. Good luck hobbling to the presidential race, Huck...

In all seriousness: guns are a serious threat against ones life. Therefore to be indoctrinated or anything at gunpoint = a threat against ones life, whether the gun is loaded or not.

@shatzy - XD Hey, I like BLTs! So long as they're fresh and not more than an hour old. I am quiet; I am strong.

i dunno. i'm not a huckabee fan... but i've lived in arkansas when he was governor so i don't put a lot of weight in his words in the same way that (apparently) others are. maybe huckabee has gone off the deep end since my ''familiarity'' with him seems so far off base with the rest of subeta's reactions.

i just find his statement SO HARD to take seriously. i mean, if i posted my BLT statement, am i to honestly believe that SOMEONE on subeta would seriously assume that i would want to hold someone at gunpoint to eat a BLT??? would posters familiar with my ''subeta voice'' be as offended at such a comment as those who are less familiar?

again, i found the comment on the whole COMPLETELY inappropriate and such a fool move for someone that wants to escalate his political reach. but still.... it isn't like i put mike huckabee so far to the right that i'd even consider his remark something serious.

Hahaha what.
Usually I am pretty forgiving of when people say the wrong thing, but that's just... what. I feel kinda bad for the guy because of the crapstorm that I am sure is going on now, but that really is a stupid thing to say -- and sure to bother plenty of people!

This guy is crazy. That's just not a rational thing to say - jokingly or not.

Think about what he "wishes" would happen - and then remember that he's trying to actually get into a position of real power. Where wishes really do come true! *rainbow*

So here's my problem with it: Say I'm standing in line at Burger King. I hear a person at the fryer saying "I wish every one of these customers had to eat my spit on their burger" - whether he meant it or not I'd get the love out of there.

Technically, I think your example would be more sinister because it would be forcing someone to actually consume something. Talking about holding anyone to gunpoint to do something is really inappropriate for a politician to say... they really aren't trustworthy to begin with.

I really cannot take this seriously. If I was held at gunpoint to watch something I am not willing to watch I would be the jackass getting shot for standing up to walk away. :/ He won't make it very far just like the first time anyways.
