Um, I'd like to change my former "doesn't bother me" opinion. Now that I look at it, and several posts have been repeated (pet spotlight, weekend quests etc) the avatars kind of get me on my nerves. It was one thing when it was a different HA every couple of posts, but now that I see the same one repeating itself it's really not pleasant to look at.

I'm definitely in favor of the old layout, unfortunately. x/

I'm just curious what was so wrong with the old layout that it needed changing? Also how switching to a layout that will force a (possibly) high number of users to use custom CSS so that a page purely designed to deliver news will look less flashy? Perhaps its just my simplistic, minimalist side showing here.

Thankfully I'm using that lovely bit of CSS posted in the previous thread about this, which lessens the eye-burn by a miniscule amount, if only by removing the HAs. I suppose its time to play with the bit posted on the first page and see if I can find colors less annoying to read than light gray and white.

Contrast is your friend.

I personally do not like this change. I really felt there was nothing wrong with the news
layout before hand. I really dislike the avatars on the side, all it does is slow down the load time.
I do not like the grey and white colors, they seriously burn my eyes.
I really feel like this was just not something that was needed. The news doesn't even look professoinal
anymore, in my opinion. I loved that it was simple, now its all cluttered.

Also i don't understand why you would roll out a new layout only to encourage those who don't like it
to use Custom CSS. I thought the point of running a site was to roll something out people
actually liked and didn't have to mess with to like? It just strikes me as odd.
Im all for change, but i really disaprove of this one.

Maybe get rid of the avatars, and use different colors and i might be more accpeting.
but right now, not so much. And im not really wanting to go in and mess with my custom CSS, plus
you shouldn't really be thinking everyone knows how to do Custom CSS, or can pay for someone to do it for
them.=/

I liked all new layouts before... but this one is awfull. I disagree it's more easy to see the ending of one post to another. It's only harder to find something.
Try to find a way to change the custom layout. Maybe I#m to old for this, but I don't think most users will like it.

Not the same as before but its a real simplistic layout. I have the avatars blocked by an ad blocker on my computer so I couldnt figure out how to disable them for now, plus the news header wasnt really 'centered' but it works for some I hope.

Meh. The first time I saw it I was like"wha?! I SHOULD BE ON THE HOME PAGE. WHY AM I NOT ON THE HOME PAGE?!.." >.<
Then it finally dawned on me that they just changed it. And I HATE it. Bleh.
I think it looks awful. I also agree with the people that say it's harder to read

I'm with everyone, I hate it, There is nothing positive to say about it. There was nothing wrong with the old news page. This sort of thing should be kept minimal, not have weird grey blobs everywhere, and also, what's with the weird double triangle on the speech bubble? Bleh.

Having the HA speech bubble makes the news page more visually interesting. (Though it does look awful on narrow screens.)

I would like this a lot more if it wasn't a column of the same HA in a row.

Would it be possible to get some variety in what accounts posts the automatic announcements?

I like the new layout, but I really don't like the full avatars. I would prefer a head shot on the front page and if you went to comment or read the comments, a full avatar there.

I can't say I'm a fan of the new newspost layout at all. Everything is awkwardly spaced out to me. It's more evident with smaller news posts such as the mentioning of the weekend quests.

While I appreciate all the hard work that must have gone in to making the new news layout I, like others, feel it was maybe not needed

It maybe easier to see where one post ends and another starts but that isn't as important as being able to tell where one day ends and starts which now seems very hard.

The boxes around the posts seem very chunky and confining, (I too use a narrow window so I can have other things going on at the same time).

The HAs feel unnecessary and cluttery, like it has been said, we don't go to the news to look at HAs we go to read the new news.

Something mininalist and simple seems best for the news but that's just how I feel.

Count me in the "Do not like" Column. I think it looks very cluttered and the news posts are actually harder to read since I want to skip the huge bubbles that just have a line or two of text. I thin the HAs take up way way to much room and while I appreciate the Subeta avatar I don't want to stare at three of them on my news page every time I check.
Thank you Subeta for at least making it easy to customize with CSS, which I shall be doing later on.

I wonder, is there a way to see how many (active) users tweak stuff with CSS? It would be interesting to know what users were and were not tweaking with.

The page was incredibly boring before, it needed an update.

It would be nice though, if only npc-specific posts showed avatars. They're just not necessary for certain announcements.

I do not like this new layout very much, it honestly looks rather cluttered to me, I liked it when I could read the news all in one go. Did someone mention custom CSS? Perhaps I'll go check it out.

I also agree that it looks kind of cluttered, and that it's hard to tell when the new day begins in all the clutter.... I liked the old news page a lot better. Sometimes boring is useful.

But if it must be kept this way, I agree that at least reducing the HAs to headshots would be better.

I added the CustomCSS code that removes the HAs, and I actually think it looks quite nice like that.

Overall, the HAs are kind of overwhelming if uncustomized, but the changes look pretty spiffy without them, in my opinion.

My suggestion would be to consider tweaking how the HAs show up (or removing them entirely!), because as mentioned, if you don't full-screen your browser, the way it wraps is rather awful.

Personally, I find it pretty important to differentiate between the days. I'm not a big fan of the change because I was used to the old way, but I think I could tolerate it much better if there were dividers between the days or something. Am I the only person who sometimes needs to look through older news posts? The date is pretty important for that, especially since we get news daily!

I'm not a fan of the new style but it doesn't really bother me either. When I go back to look for stuff I wish the dates were bigger or something though. I don't mind the change, I'll get used to it.

I actually like having the individual items of news broken up into boxes, but I don't like the HA's. It seems a bit silly to have the same Subeta Team HA repeating over and over.

I agree with you except I don't want to get used to it. The HA's aren't layering right on my screen, making the news page even longer and frankly, it's not necessary. I don't care to know what "subetateam" or any of the staffers look like when I read the news.

I think I miss the divider lines most. Wait, there were lines, right? And to echo what I see others saying the HAs in the middle of the page stretch it out and kinda clutter it in my opinion...

It's meant to mimic the tail of a speech bubble. You know, to make it look like these avatars are talking. e_e Stupid and unnecessary imo.

I don't like it, mainly because of the avatars. It would be better if the boxes stood out more (where the news is) and if the avatars were at the side rather than in the middle of the boxes.

to me it had a "cleaner" look before... now it's not as easy to just pass an eye and find the information :/

plus, think of people with slower internet; it already takes some time to load the php, now will take even more to load all the new fancies :|

edit, just saw there will be no option to choose layouts, so meh... just don't like at all ._.
especially because news page is the first one to show up when you log in, (and theres no way to even change that) so if I want to quickly log just to put my pet to train I'll have to wait for the news page and then move away from it - making it not quick at all x_x
