Oh man, you have NO idea how happy this would make me if there was an option to disable smiles! If there is, then please direct me there and lock this thread. If not, then why, may I ask, is there no option to do so? Those little smiling balls of HATRED are so annoying, and I think I am not the only one to say this when I would kill for an option so that we don't have to see them. I especially hate it when I make a comment or post and I have to edit it because of a stupid smiley error.

Like I mentioned earlier, if there is a way to disable smiles, I would happily appreciate it if someone could direct me in that direction. If not, PLEASE IMPLEMENT.

I agree with you completely.Ever since I played on this pokemon website were newbies feel the need to put 50 smilies in their posts smilies have annoyed the crap out of me.I would love an option to disable them.I've never found smilies that appealing anyways.

Yes, I'd love this. I'm on a site where we have them completely disabled (per everyone's request) and I've gotten so used to not having them cropping up in every. single. post. I've been spoiled.

Yes, why hasn't this been implemented? Not sure if I'd use it or not but I can completely understand how annoying they can be.

I'd really like this personally, especially if any of the suggestions for bigger and more animated smilies are ever introduced.

And I've already swapped to c: and :c partially because they don't smiley (and I just like the look better, but still).

Edit: Just to clarify, I don't care if the option just turns them off in your own posts, or turns them off on the site entirely, as long as other people don't see them in my posts. That's the big thing for me, I realize others may want to have them specifically show in their posts as much as I don't

I don't really mind the default smilies that we have since I tend to use my own ( D8, C:, :c ) But I can understand if other people want to disable them. They could probably be annoying for some users, and.. there are some people that use them a lot.
I think an option would be nice.

i have actually changed my set of personal emoticons since being on subeta because of the default smilies.
but the occasional and and and and crop up and i then have to edit if i forget to preview. ;n;
text emotions forever! :<

i'd love to get an option to disable them per-post, like a checkbox next to post reply or something,
so everyone can see what you actually meant. (this is probably the best option, content-wise)
or per-account so you, personally, will never see the smilies, ever,
but other people can see ones you accidentally type in your posts
and they'll never know that you thought their was supposed to be confused.

The reason I use smilies is because somehow I find the words I use don't come off the way I want them too. I always add a smiley so that people know that it's a happy thing and not a snid comment

Yes, I totally agree with this idea.
And I think that if someone can't express his emotions without smiles it is problem with his vocabulary.
If a joke is good, it will be clear that this is a joke without emoticons. If joke is bad no smiles won't make it better.

Can't say as I have any problems with smilies and much like I do find that they help get my emotion across. Plus i totally love this one

However I think anything that allows us to customise our experience and/or remove something hated has got to be good so I am all for this idea.

I think this would be a good thing.Even though I enjoy smilies, like when someone sends me a gift, I write back "thank you " or when something makes me mad, like the wizard quests messing up I put "I'm so annoyed :K" I don't overally use them though.

I'd like to see it both
a) In preferences, to disable site-wide, like the chat filter
b) per post, for users who don't mind smilies in other people's posts, but don't want them gunking up their own. (SUPER NICE FOR RP THREADS. PLEASE. THIS. DO.)

I like this idea, but I use smilies all the time. They don't really bother me. But pretty much anything that have the option to turn something off and on here, I'm for it.

I don't know why smilies get everyone's panties in a bunch, that amuses me.

I wouldn't use it, but if it makes other people's internet experience better, whatever.

Also, they just annoy me when they creep into posts when they're not welcome (like when you type a ;-; face at the end of this sentence in parenthesis ;-

Also, I generally meant the option to disable them via posts and site-wide in your account only, NOT as an entire site thing where no one gets to see the wonderful ~~discomfort~~ pleasure of viewing them~

I like smilies, the internet fails at conveying emotions so i like to add them so it doesn't come across wrong. c:
I guess if its only an option and i can keep bombarding with smilies and still being able to see other peoples that's okay.

I just hate it when my text randomly turns into an emoticon. I do not like them. :C I would definitely disable them if there was an option.

This. I would love to be able to disable emoticons on my own posts, but I don't mind seeing other people use them. Though I do wish sometimes that we'd update the emotes. xD;
