Welll the series came out when I was like 10 but my family wouldn't let me read it because they thought it was evil lol But I read a little of it anyway but...I actually found it boring at the time x: lulz And my mom got to the point where she didn't care if I read it or not but I still wasn't interested. So years and years later during my freshman year of college, my bff was all "okay, I don't care, you -are- going to watch the Sorcerer's Stone" so I did and of course I loved it lol I was spending the night at her house that night and she had all the books so I started reading the first one and couldn't put it down and it went on from there Took me about 2 years to finish the whole series. I took a break during the 5th book because I don't really like the 5th book and Sirius is like my favourite character so I was slightly depressed :c

As for midnight launchings, I went to the very last book launching even though I hadn't read any of the books at the time and knew nothing about the series lol It was fun though and there was a Hagrid there~

Initial discovery: 3rd grade, nine years old. I think the third or fourth book was just released and was all the rage? Everyone had them. I wasn't allowed to read them.

Really getting in to the series: After my best friend kinda shoved it at me for a few months, I jumped on the 'I like this' wagon, but didn't really fall in love until after I saw the first move (I felt so devilish, since my mother disapproved of 'those things').

I was in first grade when my mom introduced me to the first book which was around the time the second book had come out. She started reading it to me every night before bed but by second grade I was reading ahead of her before bedtime so she gave up. When I was in third grade, and when the first movie came out I was really excited. It was opening day (we didn't go to the midnight premiere because I was so young) but I remember thinking it was so awesome.

Over time my interest has kind of waned and I'm definitely not obsessed or a huge fangirl like I know most the people on this website are. However, I did go to the midnight release of the 7th book and the midnight premiere of the last two movies and I've seen all of the movies in theaters. So I have been a part of the experience and I do admit that it was a pretty big part of my childhood/adolescence.

I think the first came out when I was around six or so, but I started reading them a little later than that, probably when I was around 8 or 9? I remember getting really obsessed with them and they've been quite a big part of my life--for a book, anyways. I love meeting other people who love the books as much as I do, and I've been to a couple of the midnight releases for the movie. As for the midnight book releases, I think I've only been to one--the last one. It was super exciting and me and my brother both wanted to read the last book so badly that we got two copies. Sometimes I get super nostalgic about new books coming out, since it was such a huge part of my childhood.

Now many years later, I still love the books and have reread them more times than I can count. Literally.

Then when I learned how to read the Harry Potter series were among the first books I've ever read. Gosh. Now that I think about it, its like I grew up with HP :O

I were 10 or so, and I borrowed (and read) the first book atleast 10 times from the school-library, before the 2nd book came out. Proud to say I were probably the first where I live that read this book.

I was in first grade, LOL. All my family had read it, so obviously I wanted to read it (being the annoying little first grader that I was). I read it & though I didn't really, fully understand it, I loved it. I remember my dad wouldn't let me see the movie because he thought it was too scary for me haha. But yeah, basically Harry Potter has been part of my whole life ^_____^ I literally did grow up with Harry Potter. I remember being so bummed when I didn't get my Hogwarts letter ;___;

I was six. My aunt gave me the first two books for my birthday, but I was a bit too young to really like them. I really started them after the second movie came out.

When I was 11. Grade 6 teacher would read a bit of the 3rd book at the end of the day until the bell rang. I enjoyed it a lot and asked my mom to get be the first 3. xD The 4th book came out over that summer and was given to me as a birthday present. ♥

I believe I was eight or something to that effect (*checks* yess, I must've been, parts 1&2 appeared here in mid 2000) and I got the book for my birthday on top of some much bigger gift. I looked at it dumbly and wondered if it was really for me because it looked just so added on top and, also, pretty adult. For some reason I thought they might've left it there by some mistake. (lol) It felt stupid to ask them so I put it on my shelf and didn't touch it for a while.
Then I got the second part that very Christmas (my birthday is in December) and read the second part first...didn't get much. Went back to the first one, fell in love, read the second...then read both some 20 times or so until part 3 came out.

///fail

Part 7 was the first full book I ever managed to read in English, I was such a noob back then XD

I was 8 (grade 3), now I'm 20 in third year uni O_O time flies... Heard about it when my grade 3 teacher read us the books! I had issues staying still and listening to her but in the end my parents bought me the first book via those scholastic book orders and I loved it, ever since I have awaited every release of the books, the day they came out I'd wake up at 6 am and run to the store, purchase it, and spend the entire day reading and finishing it. Didn't get as into the movies because I don't think they're that great but the books were a real gem for me.

I was 10 or 11-ish. I remember it was in 5th grade. I had to sneak around because my parents were super-strict Jehovah's Witnesses and witchcraft was EEEEVVVILLLL to them. :p Then when I got older they mellowed and stopped caring.

I always preferred the books over the movies, and to be honest I've still not seen DH part 2. I didn't go to any midnight releases either cause I was never that into them.

I think I was nine or ten when I got into the series. Haha I was so disappointed not to get my owl when I turned eleven! ;^; (I justified it by saying Hogwarts was a UK only school, surely there's one in the US.)

Gosh, now I'm all nostalgic...should break out the books again!

I read the first one in grade five... 1998? My sister got it as a gift for her birthday and I wrote a book report on it. I enjoyed it but didn't get that it was a big deal for another year or two, and then got completely and utterly hooked.

I think I was 9.. It was in 2000 when we moved and I changed schools. It's funny, because I remember other children in my class reading The Goblet of Fire, and I also wanted to read that one. It was just new around that time I guess... But my mom told me she would only buy the first book for me, so I could read that one first because it would be silly for me to start in the 4th book and I was so mad at her. XD The 5th one was already out by the time I finished the 4th one.

I was around 8-9 when I first heard of Harry Potter but I thought the books were way too long and I couldn't even read a chapter book properly yet. Also, I knew about the movies very little, it was around the Order of the Phoenix movie is when I realised that the movies were popular. Some dumb kid I was. Eventually, when I got older, I started to read the books, which I thought were good, but I don't really care for the movies. I only saw the first movie, the fourth one, and the last two-parter movies.

It was perfect, because I was around 11. I was aging with Harry and the others, and it's an experience that can't be repeated.
I remember waiting for the books, and I usually got them for Christmas.

I was in elementary school, when I picked up the first book and read it like crazy. It was either in the first or second grade, and my friends and classmates made fun of me for reading it. Then the movie came out, and bam! Harry Potter the books got really popular, haha...

I think I was about 14 or so? Maybe 15.. And I went with my sister and dad to see the first movie. I wasn't even that interested in it. I didn't know what it was really. I remember my best friend LOVED the books and went on about them to me but, sadly, I wasn't much of a reader then =/

After I saw the movie though I LOVED IT. I quickly borrowed the books from my friend and read 1 - 4! And then waited for the rest! Harry Potter is what got me interested in reading again, so I'll always be grateful for that.

I read the second book first, I remember. I think I was in 3rd grade? I think. I absolutely fell in love with it and went back to read the first book, then the third, and after that I patiently waited for each new book to be published. I miss that feeling. ):

I think I was... what, 6, 7? The book languished on my shelf for a while though, simply because I hadn't been interested, but one day, I got bored of my book selection, picked it up... and never looked back since! I remember being on holiday overseas and then scrambling to get the last book first thing in the morning it was due to be published - and then read it in one sitting.

Believe me to be...

I lived in the countryside for most of my childhood, so I think I first heard of Harry Potter a
few weeks after the first movie came out on video (ah, good ol' videos). My Mum brought
it for my sister and I. I was, maybe, six? No, nine-ish? I don't know. I was never really into
science fiction books back then, so I never read the books.

... very sincerely yours

When I was in theee.... 5th grade, I believe? Our teacher read the first book to us, and honestly I didn't think too much of it then. But then the movie came out, and I thought it was great. Then in the seventh grade, I started reading them before the second movie came out and I loved them so much. But sadly to this day I have not read past the very start of the 5th :c It came out, and I was the first to get it from the school library, and didn't get to finish it before they wanted it back, and for some reason I still have yet to finish it... Someday i just need to reread the entire series.
