I was seven when I first started reading them. All I really remember is picking it up in the school library and thinking, "Hey, this seems interesting."

My grandmother bought two of the books for me when I was in third grade, but I didn't read them until a few months later, when the first movie came out... I like the movies but I think that the books are a lot better... But anyway, I have been a fan of the books ever since.

I can't recall how old I was, actually. I just remember my mum mentioning it. I read a lot when I was little but I always wanted stuff with more adventure and action. My school didn't really provide that and I, being an avid Dragonball fan, was really craving more. XD I just remember reading the books avidly whilst still worrying that I'd have to read longer stuff in high school and I'd be unable to do it. Oh, silly me. I think it's primarily due to the HP books that my writing improved and I gradually began to write my own work. ouo

I was four years old- the year the book came out in the United States, 1998. I remember not fancying it at all, and in fact when reading the series I skipped the first book the first time I read the series because I disliked it so much. That being said, I've officially reread and like it
I just wish I had an original British copy, where all the words aren't changed- 'mum' to 'mom' and 'rubbish' to 'trash'.

I was still entrenched in baby mode (6 or 7). My mom was into it as soon as it debuted, so I grew up reading them and going to the movies with the family.

i was in grade 1 when harry potter became the " in thing". Honestly I was really mad, I hated it and didn't want to read it. My grandmother had sent me the books each and every single time they came out. My friend in grade 1 would play " harry potter" every single recess. It just became suppperrduppper annoying. Until grade 9, when i actually read the books, then i was like " OMGKAJSDLKASJDL HARRY POTTERRRR!!!". lol yep. xD

Hmmm I think I was eight... Between the second and third books. Then that year at Christmas I got all three for x-mas to keep (I'd been read the first one at a summer camp and I think I got the second from the library). I went to four midnight launchings.

I was four years old when I started reading the first book. My dad and I used to read together before we went to bed and I remember about a week after we moved to Europe, we went shopping to find a new book and the Philosopher's Stone was the book we ended up choosing. I became so obsessed with it that all my school projects and colouring activities and whatnot somehow related back to Harry Potter... hahah

Always.

I was 10 the year it was published in the U.S. One of my old teachers lent me her copy and told me it was time I'd started reading real chapter books. Best thing a teacher has ever done for me.

My dad got me the first book in the series when I was in 6th grade, or around the summer or beginning of the school year, to try and get me start reading more. I read a chapter and a page before putting it up until Christmas break because the teacher told us that we would start it when we got back to school. So to try and get ahead I started trying to read it again. Picking up where I left off was incredibly hard so I started from the beginning again and was hooked. That was until about the 5th book when my interests changed. Though even now years later I have still not read the last two books, I know I should I just never have the energy nor the want to try.

I was 11, I think. I got the first book as a Christmas gift in 1999 from my librarian grandma. I held off on reading it for about half a year because I thought the first chapter was kinda boring, but the second time I tried I just shot through it and had to have the other books that were out at the time immediately. <3 Now I can't imagine what my life would be like without it.

Six or seven years old.
I was on a plane with my then step-sister going to visit my mother and her father, and she was reading The Prisoner of Azkaban. I'm surprised I even remember this, '99 was a long time ago.

I first found out about them a few years after they first came out. I was probably about 7 or 8 coz I was 4 or 5 when they first came out. I remember my friend and I listening to them on audio book tapes in the car. (Yeah. Like, casette tapes. Haha.) I went to one of the midnight showings. I think it was the 3rd book. I crossdressed as Moaning Myrtle and my friend was Hermione and my mom was Professor McGonagall. And I remember we got a Time-Turner and wands and stuff from the Harry Potter fan magazine.

Oh jeeze, that was so long ago. I barely remember any of this. Haha. I just recently rewatched the first-third movies because I was so young when they came out that I didn't remember them.

I was 12 when the books were starting to be released in the US but never read them til part 2 of the Deathly Hollows was to hit theaters.

I'm 25 so let's just say I'm a late bloomer to the books/movies. Now I can't stop reading them, I'm reading the series for the 2nd time now.

It was around the time the fourth book came out (which is my fave in the series), so I was about...22 or 23. One of my nephews, who was 12 at the time(and has the same birthday as Harry, July 31st) , had been reading the books and he told me I should read the latest one. I had been hearing about Harry Potter books for awhile, but since they were labeled as childrens books, of course I had no desire to read them. But after much prodding, I took my nephews advice and read Goblet of Fire, which I fell in love with. I quickly went out and bought the other three books within the next couple weeks. Every time a new book came out, I would read all of the previous books before I read the new one.

And then my mother, who my whole life I have only ever seen her read either a cookbook or the Bible, loves the movies. It became a tradition with me and her to see every movie on opening weekend. It just became a thing that we did together, just us, without my sisters or anyone else, which was nice because we don't really have that much in common.

Oh gosh.. It had to be sometime before the 5th book came out, because my dad went and stood in line at midnight to buy it for me, then I spent that whole night reading it, curled up on the sofa.

I went to the sixth and seventh release parties. They were pretty great ;D

I was 8 or 9 years old, and I saw my friend reading one of the books (I think it was Goblet of Fire) and I was jealous because it was such a large book and she was so smart so I started reading them too.... It took me literally like 5 years to finish them all though ._.

I was 11 when I first read, when Sorcerer's Stone was released. You can't begin to imagine the amount of self-insert fantasies I had as a kid! It was perfect, all the books until the last few were released while the characters were the same age as me. It was perfect.

i started reading Harry Potter when i was in the 10th grade so i was 16 (i'm 28 now). it all started when my mom borrowed the first book from a coworker so she could read it to my then 5 year old twin brothers. at first when i heard talk of the Harry Potter books, i actually thought Harry Potter was the author lol. my mom couldn't get past the first few pages so she stopped reading to my brothers. i then picked it up to see if i could get past the first few pages. i was hooked after the first paragraph i finished the first book in less than a day. after i read the second book myself i decided to read them to my brothers. they loved it. so we went and saw the first movie in theaters. it soon became a tradition. my brothers and i have seen all the movies in theaters together. it brought us closer together since there is an 11 year age gap between us, so i am always thankful of the series for doing that.

It was either the third or fourth grade, our teacher actually read the first book aloud to the class as a whole. I can't say I really had cared about it so much then, and it wasn't until about the... 7th grade I think? when I got into them for myself. I had remembered a lot about the first book though, and in retrospect my teacher was very awesome for having read it to us uvu Haha if it hadn't been for her I wouldn't have had any idea on how the heck to pronounce Hermione's name.
