I'm curious to know if anyone has read (and loved) this amazing series by Anne McCaffery. I just read through the first trilogy (Dragonflight, Dragonquest, and The White Dragon) again, and am getting obsessed all over again! I read most of them when I was about 13 years old, remembering how some books made me cry (like Moreta's Ride) and how much I loved the series.

So, Subeta! Let's hear it! Anyone?

(On a side note, I'd love to start a Pern RP, if anyone is interested)

It's basically my favorite series of all time, minus the garbage her son's produced since he started writing books for it.

Tirinath is actually a fandom pet based on the gold at my previous Weyr.

omg, he's terrible. I only read them because I love the world.
All my dragons that are in my forumset I name ending with the proper "th". :p
I'd like to make a tribute pet some day~ (Also be part of a Weyr)

@ Awesome! I clicked them all, hopefully it helps level them up or however it works with that site.

Being part of a weyr is SOMUCH fun as long as you have a competent pair of weyrleaders. A bad weyr is just ... terrible beyond words. Purple psychic flying cats that have their own firelizards and the like. Eek.

Since the tribute item thread's not the place to talk, did her son write/help to write some? One of the more recent ones I tried to read and couldn't stand. Something was different about them.

I used to read these books when I was old enough to move out of the children's section. I'm thinking I read probably five/six total before I got tired of them. I had some issues with the series that turned me off them.

Don't even get me started on the unicorn girl books. I couldn't even get past book two. The character, to me, ended up too goody two shoes.

Loved the series when I was a kid. Now that I'm older I realize it has some pretty broken messages, a poor excuse for a setting, weak characterization and in general isn't very good. Great time killer though, and they are pretty entertaining.

@Fai He did. He did some collabs with her and some books on his own and they're like ... non-canon. It's like he never even read his mother's books. I'm not sure why Anne would have allowed him to do some of the things he did to her series, considering she was SO STRICT with everyone else (her RP weyr rules were kind of insane.)

I can't say I was a fan of everything she did with the series herself (call me old-fashioned, but I'm inclined to agree that AIVAS probably risked the entire colonization by coming back online and re-tecching the planet's inhabitants) but I will always love the series, even if she did occasionally contradict herself. xD

I never tried the Unicorn Girl books. I did try the crystal singer ones and just couldn't get into them. Every good author has a turd or two, though.
