What is Camp NaNoWriMo?

Based on November’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), Camp NaNoWriMo provides the online support, tracking tools, and hard deadline to help you write the rough draft of your novel in a month… other than November!

What: Writing one 50,000-word novel from scratch in a month’s time.
Who: You! We can’t do this unless we have some other people trying it as well. Let’s write laughably awful yet lengthy prose together.
Why: The reasons are endless! To actively participate in one of our era’s most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties. To be able to mock real novelists who dawdle on and on, taking far longer than 30 days to produce their work.
When: You can sign up anytime to add your name to the roster. Writing begins 12:00:01 AM on June 1, and again on August 1. To be added to the official list of winners, you must reach the 50,000-word mark by 11:59:59 PM on the last day of the month. Once your novel has been verified by our web-based team of robotic word counters, the partying begins.

If you have a username over at the NaNoWriMo site, you can just use that to log into this site! No re-registering necessary.

Schedule of Events

~~January 8th - 14th~~: Subeta's Week Writing Challenge - Your challenge is to write 10k words in one week! This could be an addition to your NaNo novel, split among short stories, or starting a brand new novel! The choice is yours.

~~April 2012~~: There are two options for April for writers here: Script Frenzy or NaPoWriMo!

Script Frenzy - This challenge takes place the entire month of April, and the goal is to complete a 100 pages of scripted material (screenplays, stage plays, short films, etc). More information can be found here.

NaPoWriMo - The goal for this challenge is to write a poem a day for the entire month of April! That's 30 poems in 30 days.

~~May 20th - 26th~~: Subeta's Week Writing Challenge - Your challenge is to write 10k words in one week! This could be an addition to your NaNo novel, split among short stories, or starting a brand new novel! The choice is yours.

June 2012: Camp NaNo - More info coming soon.

July 2012: Camp NaNo - More info coming soon.

August 2012: Camp NaNo - More info coming soon.

Welcome to the 2012 Writing Discussion Chat thread!

After the huge success with the NaNo 2011 thread, it occured to me that it would be great to have a place to chat all year round. Here you can chat with your fellow writers and poets, challenge each other to word wars, or just discuss your current projects or concerns involving writing! Challenges will be posted in the post above from time to time, starting with a week challenge from January 8th to January 14th! Hope you will all find this as your home away from home and can't wait to participate in more challenges with you all.

XD I love that the week writing challenge starts on the 8th - that's my birthday! I've been meaning to finish up a second draft of a story that's only about 80k so that would be a good exercise to really get some words down.

Yay, writing. Glad to see that the decision to just do all the writing events was made. Might work on a silly piece of fanfiction during the January one, seeing as that's the only comparatively short thing I have going about now.

Ooh, I'll be subscribing to this thread. I haven't written in a loooong time due to school and lack of inspiration, motivation etc. but now that I'll be out of school for the next 8 months I'm hoping to pick it up again. Hopefully Subeta's writing scene will give me the kick in the ass I need to do so. XD

Glad to have you aboard! It's always nice to get some extra support from other writers and having friendly competition also helps motivate! I know it does for me at least.

NaPoWriMo? Never heard of that. I write poetry sometimes, but not knowing the guidelines I don't know if that'd really be up my alley or not.

Information for April has been posted! I have added NaPoWriMo to our schedule for April. This gives people an option to either choose writing a screenplay or writing poems!

Personally, I will be participating in NaPoWriMo, writing a poem for each of my pets and then 5 random ones.

Camp NaNo information to come soon. I have hit a snag, though. It seems that Camp NaNo takes place in July and August, not June and August. Do we want to switch June to July or keep it at June?

Awesome. I'll probably go for NaPoWriMo rather than ScriptFrenzy, in that case. There's not really anything I need a script for, but poetry's something I could use to get back into.

As for the june/july matter, I'd rather do it with the actual Camp NaNo dates. That said, going with just July and August or doing all three is okay with me.

We will probably continue to just go with all three days!

Gives people the choice to pick and choose when they want to write.

I'm glad NaPoWriMo looks appealing! I think it would be great to get a few more people into poetry. I totally find it more challenging than writing a novel, but I want to give it a try anyways.

damn... really really wanna do the Subeta's Week Writing Challenge- I've got a new pair of characters who I /really/ need to write about... but I've got exams the week after, and I really really need to revise

Still - I may try out NaPoWriMo (although I'm not much of a poet)
and I may just attempt all 3 months for Camp NaNo... even if it may threaten to kill me xD - if worse comes to the worse... I'll probably end up doing June, have a break in July, and then get back on it August
But then... as I remember correctly after NaNoWriMo... it feels so weird not having to write 1,666 words everyday.... for the first few weeks of December I was pretty lost xD

And I know what you mean, I'm sitting here like "I AM BORED, I WONDER IF ANYONE WOULD WORD WAR WITH ME...." but then never feel like pinging 'cause I don't want to bother anyone.

This week's event: Subeta's Week Writing Challenge!

Your challenge is to write 10k words in one week! This could be an addition to your NaNo novel, split among short stories, or starting a brand new novel! The choice is yours.

For this challenge, I am going to list all of your daily challenges here. Daily challenges are optional and are there for fun! Usually I would post a new one per day, but I am going on vacation on Thursday. It seemed like a better idea to just list them for the entire week in one go.

Good luck to everyone in their goals!

Daily Challenges

Sunday, 8th
Use the phrase "it's too late" in one form or another at least once today.

Monday, 9th
Describe something nice without using the words "nice", "good", or "kind". Can be anything from an object, a person, or an action, etc.

Tuesday, 10th
Incorporate an embarrassing moment.

Wednesday, 11th
Use the generator on this page at least once.

Thursday, 12th
Have a character act suspiciously.

Friday, 13th
Use this generator at least once today.

Saturday, 14th
Pay particular attention to a color today. Make this color important to one of your characters in some way. Can be a metaphorical importance, but is not necessary.

BONUS CHALLENGE
Incorporate a birthday, a cake, or a pie into your story!

XD WHAT ABOUT THE BIRTHDAY CAKE CHALLENGE!? XD

Haha...I'm sad that Tuesday is the 'embarrassing moment' challenge...I'll be picking up my story tomorrow riiiight at the part where the current focus character is stuck in a man-eating tree and in order to escape with his life and continue his rescue mission, he has to strip down to his underwear. It's a pretty hilarious scene but the other characters don't let him live it down, haha.
