Hi there, stranger! This comic was originally open only to my cult members, but as they have lots to do and I need the help I'm opening it to Subeta as a whole. =) So here's the deal: I need some help with my webcomic, Amaravati, so I'm turning to you awesome artsy people. In the upcoming Chapter 3, I'm about to introduce four gods and 12 angels (mostly as background characters) but... oh crap! My best efforts haven't gotten me far enough in their designs! I've been at it for a year but two of the gods and 4 of the angels still have iffy to nonexistant designs. Here's what I need you to do: Use the provided bases or Subeta sprites and add your designs. You'll be given some basic guidelines based on the individual characters, but otherwise you have free rein. You can also draw your own bases, if you'd prefer not to use mine or Subeta's - just make sure it's obvious who's who. =) When you're done, reply to this thread with a link to your piece and I'll consider it in the running. The Rules: 1. The final decision is mine, and I may make small edits to your design(s) to make them mesh more smoothly with the world or my drawing style. 2. Designs must not be too complicated as I will have to be able to repeat them in the comic and drawing complicated designs over and over again is a real pain. 3. Please make sure your designs are clear - include alternate angles and the like if you think it would help. 4. I like jewels and shiny glittery things. Particularly with the girls, you just can't go wrong with that. 5. All selected designs belong to me when the contest ends. Anything I don't choose you may keep and use for whatever you want. 6. The contest will run from December 29th, 2011 - March 1st, 2012. Late entries will be accepted if a reason is given beforehand, but I do need to start practicing with the designs fairly early on so I can draw them properly for the comic so I can't wait too long. 7. You may enter for one or all six designs and you might win for all of them or none. The prize remains the same, however many of your designs are selected. Ok, so now you know what I want... what do you get out of it? Two things: 1. Your design(s) will appear in Amaravati and you will be given credit (of course) for anything you had a hand in. 2. I'll draw, for each winner, a portrait painting of any one of your characters (includes personalized fanart, a Subeta pet, your HA, etc). (One per winner.) Ready? Want to give it a try? Here are the bases and guidelines: 1. Kalilinoe (Kali), the Spirit of Spring --Pastel colours and white preferred, but rich colours could look good too --Each of the Spirits (gods) has a deadly sin associated with them - Kali's is Lust --She is generally sweet and almost child-like but has a not-so-well-hidden wild side --What should her bangs/ the front of her hair look like? Base: Kalilinoe Base 2. Arawn, the Spirit of Autumn --He is a shapeshifter and most strongly connected to wolves. --Does he have tattoos? Jewelry? What does his hair look like? He should have at least a vaguely tribal design --His deadly sin is Wrath Base: Arawn Base 3. Aarus, the Angel of Ocean --A quiet, intellectual type --Has two forms: a shorter humanoid form and a merman form with a very long, eel-like tail --General blue and green colour scheme is preferred, but go wild. What screams "Ocean" to you? Base: Draw your own or use a Subeta sprite. 4. Suzaku, the Angel of Storms --She is mainly serious but does have a sense of humor --Clothes and hair should be mostly dark - think thunderclouds --Suzaku and Arawn have a quiet, but not secret, relationship Base: Draw your own or use a Subeta sprite. 5. Jotnir, the Angel of Snow --The original idea came from the Norse myth of the Jotnar --He is brother to Thornir, but has black hair and a cold colour scheme --He tends to be more solemn than his brother Base: Draw your own or use a Subeta sprite. 6. Thornir, the Angel of Frost --Jotnir's brother --Has bright red hair and a generally warm colour scheme, despite his element --He tends to be more upbeat than his brother and is quicker to smile and laugh Base: Draw your own or use a Subeta sprite. Please note that all Angel designs should include wings. They can be any colour you wish and may incorporate the Angel's element (frost-covered feathers, wings more like fins, etc). So that's that. If you're interested, save the date: December 29th, 2011 - March 1st, 2012. I did one for Kali. It's pretty simplistic but I was trying to think of how many times you'll have to draw it during the comic, haha... I also messed around with an HA as an idea for a design for Arawn.  |

@Adjidaumo @Ryxe @Harper @JoAckles @CelestialAngel @odduckOasis Did I get everyone...? I think so... Ok, the results are in. I had been meaning to do full paintings of each character for you all to see, but due to a ridiculous last couple months you're stuck with my sketches. Now, here's the thing - you all created great stuff for me. I loved it all. So... how do I pick, right? My solution ended up being to take my favourite elements from all the designs and combine and alter them as I saw fit. Most of them weren't quite right for the comic, but I found bits and pieces that were just perfect. I can't, therefore, really choose winners... but I'm rewarding you all anyway - Everyone who entered gets a full body or portrait sketch of a character of their choosing. You get a sketch and you get a sketch and you get a sketch... I'm like the Oprah of sketches! Here's the exceptions: -- Harper designed Arawn's outfit and all I did was ruffle his hair up a bit. Therefore, Harper gets a full portrait painting. -- Ryxe and Harper's Kali designs were so fitting that I had to crush them together and use them both. Both designs are fairly strong in the final outfit, so Ryxe also gets a full portrait painting. So, without further ado, here are the finals. I would have loved to do these up all shiny and pretty with digital colour and lines, but as it is, I don't really have the time right now. I hope these photos (taken with my 3DS because I can't find batteries for my camera...) will do. (Arawn's doesn't have any adjustments, as mentioned, so I haven't included it here.)
