...for my peace of mind, I've just gotta get this into the open.

Bigotry and hypocrisy among Christians is JUST as annoying to other Christians as it is to non-believers. The judgment of so-proclaimed Christians on "sinners" AND on fellow Christians for "not doing what we're supposed to" gives ALL Christians a bad name.

For the record, I'm a Christian and proud--one who believes in the verses "judge lest ye be not judged" and "we ALL fall short".

Fellow Subetans (Christian or not), what do you think?

They bother everyone, but you have to consider why they act bigoted, hypocritical and immoral. They derive their knowledge of how they should behave from their religious texts, ie the old testament and bible, which is itself bigoted, hypocritical, and immoral. Christian's are supposed to follow these texts, so doesn't that account for why they behave in this way? And what right would a fellow Christian have be annoyed by somebody who was following the word of their god?

@You_Tell_Me
I see your point. Yeah, the Old Testament is a book of rules that are humanly impossible to follow exactly, especially this day in age. And you're right, I would have absolutely no right to be annoyed, and they would have an excuse to be that way...IF that was all there was to the Bible and to Christianity.
The Bible doesn't teach hypocrisy, bigotry, or immorality. The Old Testament Bible is a book of rules and accounts of people's past screw-ups and how to avoid them. The New Testament is also rules, but it more importantly states (in not so many words) "everyone messes up. no one can follow all these rules. it's a good idea to try, but don't expect yourself to be perfect, because that's not human nature. BELIEVE and that's all you need. try to follow the Bible because it brings peace and shows faith to others." and so is stated the whole point of the Bible...basic instructions before leaving earth, but faith is the real point.
People act bigoted because they think that it's all about the RULES when it's actually about the BELIEF and the spirit. the point is that you care...not that you succeed every time or follow every rule to the letter.
it bothers me that they try so hard to follow every rule, and judge those of us who don't do it just like they do. the hypocrisy is in this: the scriptures speak against judgment, so while some try to be so "perfect" and think that they are, it just proves that they're as human as the rest of us.

@xangel.of.musicx First of all, its hard to understand what you're trying to say (and to take you seriously) with your bad grammar. The Bible does teach hypocrisy, bigotry, or immorality. Anyway, even in the new testament there are many things that are bigoted, hypocritical, and immoral. Not only that, but God, who is supposed to be perfect is bigoted, hypocritical, and immoral. Not to mention Jesus is bigoted, hypocritical, and immoral. If you actually read the books, you would see that both god and Jesus say that it is about the rules and right and wrong, and sinning, and not about 'just believing'.

Some examples;
-God personally kills a total of 371,186 ponies, not counting his slaughter of every living thing in Genesis 7. God also orders the killing of a total of 1,862,265.
-God orders his warriors to kill every living thing in a captured city, except the virgin girls, who are to be attacked and turned into sex slaves. If there are not enough girls to go around, God's warriors may raid neighboring towns for more to attack.
-God says a man may sell his daughter as a sex slave.
-God says all cross-dressers, or women who wear pants, are abominations.
-Having no regard for private property, Jesus destroys a herd of somebody else's pigs.
-Jesus says he brings not peace on earth but "a sword."
-Jesus says it is more important to anoint him with precious ointment than to give to the poor, who will always be here.
-Jesus says it is permissible to whip slaves.
-Jesus says no man can be his disciple unless he hates his parents, siblings, wife, children, and himself as well.
-Jesus says anybody who doesn't believe in him must be burned.
-Jesus says a Christian is forbidden to offer hospitality to a non-Christian, not even to wish him "Godspeed" on parting.
-Jesus says anybody who calls another "fool" will go to hell, but then he does it himself to somebody.
-The New Testament says women are inferior because man was not created for women, but women was created for man.
-The New Testament says women must not speak in church, which is a shame for them to do. If they want to ask questions, they must learn from their husbands at home.
-The New Testament says a woman must not teach, or hold authority over a man, but must learn in silence with all subjection.

FETISH pony by mumo

I think this sums up my feelings exactly, albeit in a humorous way.

Quote:
Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show. Recently, she said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a east coast resident, which was posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as informative:

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Note: the origin of this is highly debated- I don't claim to have written it, obviously, but I also don't claim to know who did. It just sums up what I think of the Bible.

I agree pretty much a hundred percent. I'm atheist, and I avoid outright attacking "those Catholics" or "those Muslims" because I know that there are lots of people who follow those religions who are just as pissed with people like Rick Santorum and Osama bin Laden as I am/was. At the same time, when I see things like the show "GCB" or the Duggard family show (the first uses Christian imagery to advertise a show about shallow, immature middle-aged women in a religious Texan town; the latter is about a very religious family of 16? children and counting that portrays them as total idiots) I feel kind of angry because I don't like that the media likes to trivialize absolutely everything, and making fun of a religion trivializes all the good that it can do.

Also, I hate Richard Dawkins, at least his anti-religious work. I am an atheist and am against the imposition of religious mores in what I believe should be more secular aspects of society. Richard Dawkins believes that too, but I think it's sick and stupid to ridicule people because they have faith in a higher being as he has in multiple of his works. It's fine to disagree with people and to scorn what they believe in, but you ought to at least be civil about it, and to them.

@BDSM

LMAO! You are awesome for sharing that. I must copy that and keep it to refer to whenever the Jehovah's witnesses come along. XD I am an atheist, but I do not force my views upon anyone, contrary to the stereotype. I merely ask questions and seek answers. I know you don't claim to have written this, but maybe you could get a laugh out of my own questions.

The bible says God stopped the sun and moon from traveling through the sky. (Joshua 10:13) Did God not know that the the earth actually travels around the sun?

Also: Religion is like a penis. It's fine to have one and it's fine to be proud of it, but please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around ... and please, PLEASE don't try to shove it down my throat!

Likewise, my signature about homosexuality says it all...

Warriors Fan Fiction! Fernmask, Patches, Dark Depths,
Dangerous Winds

Do not stand before me and say that God does not approve of homosexuals. They were born gay, which means God made them that way. To say that God disapproves of that which He Himself made is to say that God is not perfect. If God is not perfect, then he is not God.
