Can you remember if the game was 2 disc? That could really narrow it down.

EDIT: In battle, did you fight with swords or magic or something else?

EDIT 2: I found a list of every ps1 rpg game! it has to be one of these xD

I dunno if it's been said in here but Saga Frontier has been mentioned to me before and it says it has different protagonists which I don't think the game I am thinking of, has.

I went through a few lists of Playstation 1 games and all I came up with that was even vaguely close to what you're describing is Grandia. It's probably not that though. xD

I'm gonna keep looking though because I really want to find out what this is. D;

Or maybe Final Fantasy Tactics? I think you can breed Chocobos in that game, possibly...

Yeah, I was looking at Grandia too but I don't think it's it either.

These weren't Chocobos, these were small fluff balls with feet that chirped.
And they would follow you around in a line.

Hooonestly, it's not PS1, but it sounds a LOT like Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. The setting sounds a lot like that, you have to meet NPCs at certain times of the day to get quests, you have to repeat things over and over, and there's even a chick-hatching part of the game where they're little fluffballs and they follow you in a line.
