Has anyone heard of Deism, and if so, what do you think about it?

Deism is the belief that while there is a supreme creator, he does not actively interfere... but also that he did not intend for us to rely on supersitions and mythology for guidance, but rather reason and science, as he left us guidance and 'footnotes' interlaced within the world around us, within genetics and nature.

If a god simply conjured us from dirt and elements, why are we not amorphous goo on the inside? And I highly doubt he would lovingly put such intricacy and work in a highly detailed and finely crafted universe with such a precise, mechanical system just to test and prank us, as some fundamentalists claim. This is the main reason why Deism believes in the presence of Deus- the world about us is too intricate and finely crafted to simply be run on magic and miracles. No offense to anyone who seriously believes in creationism.

There is also the topic of Deus being uninvolved, leaving us on our own... Which I have heard one too many christians claim is illogical and implies that he is unloving and uncaring, but think about this... think of him as a father. Now, what do fathers do? Raise their children, teach them right and wrong... and how to fend for themselves and grow up. Now, the reason why he isn't sticking around and helping us with everything is because we, as a world, are adults now. He's not going to wipe our drool and change our diapers forever. He expects us to grow up and start building on our own, to unite, and to live. Really, aren't we supposed to take what he gave us and build our homes with it, rather than cling to his leg, begging for his help with everything? We're not supposed to be children anymore. Daddy kicked us out of the house because we need to be independent. Now it's time to find a job.

tl;dr Deism is about using reason and science to guide us how Deus intended, rather than mythology and fables, and he left because we're supposed to be adults by now.

@Caligo - I've never heard of Deism, but I'm interested in learning the beliefs of it's followers, if you want to edit your post.

Deism is the idea that there is a creator/God, but after he set everything into motion, he seemed to step out of the picture (as far as I understand it). Most of the founding fathers of America were Deist.

Edited. If anything's offensive, tell me how I could change it to be a less upsetting.

Yes, the founding fathers were Deist, although it's not just that he's out of the picture.
