I may have to fight @ for ze title of resident mad scientist, vith their presence and my absence of late.

(I am missing all the gaming talk, ironically because I am spending all my time working on costuming and whatnot for an upcoming LARP. I wouldn't mind getting in on some online 4e action, though my time is short at the end of the term. The setting seems fun, though star-pact warlocks would have the unfair advantage of their patrons already having been distant and incomprehensible.

I'm going to be really pissed if they do, not only because it was for a horribly planned event but also because they know we're expecting it. They know we're posting boards for people getting ready for it and a large majority of HAs reflect us being ready. If they just didn't bother to tell anyone I'm done with the way this site is run.

I resent the implication that I'm mad! I'm an eccentric scientist, at worst. :3

Also, what kind of LARP do you do? I've been thinking of putting together a nice combined-materials suit for Amtgard (I am aware amtgard is not the best, but it's what we have), but I honestly have no clue where to get materials- mostly thick leather, possibly some mild scales and rings- and I'd be very interested in anything you can tell me, if you've got some experience.

And please feel free to be added to the mailing list. Actually, you already are, so there!

And as to Star-Pact...their patrons are still incomprehensible, but maybe they aren't as distant anymore. Think about that one.

@ Try fabric stores for leather. I'm not sure what sort you are looking for, but you could try cutting open a few old handbags and padding them with some fake leather or cloth?
Scales and rings? The people over here generally buy some wire and meld it together themselves. They've been known to complain that their fingers get numb after a while but it's generally the easiest way to make chainmail. =) If you have any friends that are mechanics or if your establishment of education has some sort of a heavy crafting or metalwork class then I'd recommend you to ask them to use their gear.

I'm looking for thick leather, suitable for tooling, to make armor with; mostly I find more 'fabric' thickness leather, although I suppose I could simply be looking in the wrong places.

That sounds....pretty laborious! But I suppose it would work...I'm not sure anyone around here has a metal shop, but I could certainly check around. It's certainly an idea, and making chainmail out of wire seems like it would need one...

@ It is very, very laborious. I don't remember how long the person who did this claimed it to have taken but his hands ached all over in the end. All I could say is that if you are going to go through with it do not buy thick wire. Even thin wire will wear grooves into your fingers.
Perhaps try some sort of industrialworks store then? I also believe that you could add stiffness to leather by boiling it. Perhaps it'll make up for some of the lack of thickness.

I think you should try layering it below the fur coat though, even if it wouldn't be visible that way.

...hm. Odd. I'm using the Masquerade site theme and it suddenly seems to have a lot more blue and teal in it. Could be my computer acting up though. I swear the event annotations were light yellow before.
EDIT: nevermind, they did change the Masquerade layout. *stalks the shoutbox*

Well I for one don't like how Delphi looks now. It's so severely contrasted it's horrible. I loved this one because it was soft. The Darkside layout now looks wretched XD

Eh, it's bothersome to people when they no longer can use the layouts they liked because they are jarringly colored now. It's also bothersome when I've used the same layout for over two years and now its all awkward looking XD I don't really get why the colors had to get scrambled in the first place lol

@

Keith said he was editing the colors a bit back to where they were. Some layouts really needed it more then others though XD

They went back to the old style sheets for now since it really messed things up for some users since it interfered in a lot of CSS. I hope when they re-implement it they stick to the same colors.

Yay back to what I'm used to lol. Much softer on the eyes. *hugs it*

(The LARP I am starting in right now is a monthly weekend sci-fi boffer/nerf game called Star Fall. My character is a tentacle-faced somewhat naive archaeologist with two Victorianesque (I want to say steampunk but can't because the tech too advanced) human thugs (one of whom is armed with a plasma shovel we built yesterday). It is run by the same people who run a medieval fantasy game that is similar to Alliance/NERO, and it is in the very early beta-testing stages.

Both my boyfriend and my brother do leathercrafting, and for what you'd want you would need to go to an actual leathercrafting store.
They get leather from Tandy Leather Factory, and my boyfriend gets his chain and scale supplies from The Ring Lord, a Canadian supplier, though he mostly uses them to make jewlery. I have no idea where you live, though, so can't help much more than that.)
