Yeah it's amazing, I just moved in today, only been here since about ten this morning.

I begin my stay resisting an urge to roll on the floor. Unfortunately I just lay there and stare at the ceiling. My sister is staying with me this first night on my own and I suddenly realize I don't know what to do with myself. I have an oven, a fridge... a dish washer and it's all mine. *___* Sorta. It's an apartment. But still... parents aren't in the way. My boyfriend is paying the rent.

BUT. It's late now, the darkness has come over and I discover that the rooms don't have light fixtures. 8/ I'm sleeping in the living room where my TV sits on the floor. Well as it is darkness time I become more aware of things.

My neighbors who live above me... they stomp. Stomp like... stompy people. Also they talk loudly. All today I've been walking quietly, talking peacefully (for my neighbors with children below me) and they... THEY ARE LOUD. Not the below peoples but the above.

It's very... unnerving, I feel like they will fall through on me. *___*

So this is my first place... completely. Apartment woes? Neighbor woes? I'm certain most people have worse but... EEGH it's scaring me so much.

CC? What stories have you? 8D

No neighbor woes, but we have a woodpecker who swears our trailer is wood, and pecks on our bedroom walls at 6am some mornings. I swear he has brain damage.

I am collecting any piece of clothing you might have that you don't like! Anything is useful to me!

@Epathia Talk to the landlord. Check the noise laws in your area. You don't have to put up with stomping. Just because there's worse neighbors somewhere else doesn't mean yours don't suck. Hopefully they're just ignorant and not malicious.

oh my god, don't even get me started on the neighbors who live below me. the couple SCREAMS at each other every single day, slam doors, stomp so much i swear my whole apartment shakes. thank god they live below me and not above me, because i'm pretty sure i'd be paranoid about the ceiling just breaking and collapsing on top of me. they also like to send their daughter to me countless times to tell her how to do her homework. erm, sorry, but i'm busy, i have my own homework to do, my own problems to take care of, YOU are her parents, YOU are responsible for her, YOU are the ones who need to help her, not me. oh and they also used to have sex multiple times every day, and jesus christ were they LOUD. it was DISGUSTING. i remember SO many nights i would be trying to sleep, with my sister right next to me (when i used to sleep with her) and all we would hear is THUMP THUMP CREAK THUMP MOAN THUMP. talk about awkward. -___-

ugh, sorry if i sound like i'm overreacting or whatever, but i'm just pissed right now and felt like ranting.

Oh my gosh what... I never knew this! Wow... how rude of it! D<

@Dandelina
If it stays like this I will! So far it's been tolerable but at late hours it won't be. xD I can hear their TV right now. I'm trying to keep mine at a good volume so I test it by seeing if I can hear it in my room or in the boyfriend's room.

@skylark
Oh my gosh... that's awful! No you're fine to rant, I understand! When we lived in this one apartment (my whole family, not just me alone) this one couple got into a huge fight while we weren't home and we came back and there were bullet holes through the ceiling... so scary. D;

I don't really have any neighbor woes at the moment. But my neighborhood -is- a little scary sometimes, haha. Like, about a month ago, there was a group of like 7 or so men walking down the street. The only way I knew they were there was because they were yelling. So I peek out of my blinds and see two of them punching each other. Then the two kind of moved/fell into the ditch. This was all pretty much in my front yard (we have a wrought iron fence, they were on the other side). And they were grown men, too! It was all just ridiculous. My dad called the cops but they were gone by the time they showed up.

Congrats on moving into your apartment, though! I can't wait to move somewhere with my boyfriend, though I think I'd be paranoid of the walls being paper thin so everyone could hear me watching tv/walking/etc, and vice versa. xD

@Epathia

My last apartment was horrible. The downstairs neighbors yelled at each other constantly, and I could hear EVERYTHING because they were so loud. F this and F that, and it was literally Hell. The 'mother' always sat on our shared porch with her ass hanging out and taking up so much space that I'd have to squeeze past if I wanted to leave or come back to my door. The daughter was a compulsive liar and I suspect she was a thief too, seeing as a package ~mysteriously~ got opened up and raided in the 10 minutes my roommate was gone, then it ~mysteriously~ turned up at the back of the house.

My new place is awesome though. One neighbor and she's nice. Dog's a little obnoxious sometimes, but then so are my cats, and I love them all anyway.

Woah... that's really crazy! And thank you, I won't see my boyfriend until July but he's been taking good care of me! It's so fun and exciting to move into a new place! I hope you get to do that soon! Oh gosh I'm nervous about that too, been kind of testing it here and there today!

@meowth

Daaaang... that's horrible too. I can't imagine...
But it's good that your new place is great! I haven't met many of my neighbors but I walked by one of them today and he was friendly and just said "hey!" real cheerfully.

Oh boy. We have noises galore around this place. There is a guy next door to us, on the other side of our left wall with kids who you can hear pretty well especially without the TV on. Those kids tend to shout a lot. Then there is upstairs, there have been quite a few people in and out of there and we have been here for at least ten years, but there has been a great share of bumping, and closet screeching noises up there and at one point it used to happen late at night too. There was once an Indian family up there whose cooking used to seep through the vents somewhere into our apartment. It would appear most strongly in the bathroom and kitchen areas and no offense but whether or not it tastes good(and I can't say, never had it), it smells bad. It bothered my mom more than I, but a couple of times I had to do my post shower grooming in my mom's room because the small was so strong in the bathroom I could not stand it. Then there have been a few times where a couple of Indian families who live across the way from each other can be heard yelling across to each other outside the sliding glass door to the balcony in the living room. In the same area, the leaf blower is around like once or twice a week. Then there are times when they are doing work around the place, that can be terribly loud.

Overall it is not a bad apartment complex though, the place has a nice creek going through it and we get ducks in the spring and summer even with ducklings sometimes.

We have had a worse neighbor, once when I was around 7 and 8 we lived an apartment next to an Asian lady who would yell at nothing. My mom actually called the police once because she was so loud, like yelling across the street as if talking to some boys playing football or something, she was barking about how they didn't know anything about football if I remember right. I never actually knew at the time that this woman would yell at nothing, just that she would yell. My mom revealed that to me years later. I had thought there were actually boys out there that day and my mom had called the police to report harassment.

Yeah, it was a little scary... haha.
But aw, I hope the wait goes by quickly! :c And I also hope your neighbors upstairs quit all the stomping. :s I guess if worse comes to worst, you can always complain to the landlord. -shrug- lol but hopefully it doesn't have to come to that. c:

I hope so too! I felt sad when we got our cable and internet installed today that he wasn't here to enjoy it with me! He said so long as I'm happy then he's happy too! I hope it doesn't come to that either, I'm sure it'll get better. Just a few minutes the banging was louder, like they are dropping bowling balls.

@Epathia

Congratulations =D Living on your own for the first time is scary and awesome.

I have neighbours that suck, too. They live upstairs, and the guy's brother lives next door, it's a double whammy. The guy next door occasionally has parties and plays loud music: his living room wall is our walk-in-closet wall. His porch light is always left on and shines right into our bedroom.

Upstairs is a different story. They slam their door so hard we had to take our dishes out of the built-in cupboards and put them in a hutch (Which takes up valuable floor space) because they were knocking our stuff around when they slammed the door. They stomp around all day. During the winter, I swear one of them wears boots all the time. It's not just bad soundproofing. They have a forty pound dog. Anyone who lives with or below a dog knows, dogs can make lots of noise. We only hear her when she drops a plastic bone, jumps off of something, or wags her tail/scratches herself against the floor. We hear them all the time.

They'll vacuum at 3 AM, or start hammering against the floor at random hours. I think they're pre-hammering something together when they do that, but I've never seen them buy new furniture. It's definitely hammering. They'll chase each other or the dog around the apartment and yell. We can't hear the words, but we can hear the yelling. They'll often walk into their bedroom (Above our living room) and drop crap on the floor. At night they'll watch TV loudly (Over our bedroom) and flop loudly onto their furniture. They are so loveing loud it's unbelievable.

And what's worse! We were watching Walking Dead. In case you aren't aware, this is the kind of show that is very quiet, until it is very loud. We have an old school stereo system with dials instead of a remote, so we set it so we could hear the quiet parts quietly to keep the loud parts less loud. At about 11 PM a gunshot fires, and we hear a thump. We ignore it, since ALL THE AFOREMENTIONED THUMPING. Another gunshot, and then it's clear they're banging loudly on the floor. I was incredulous. loveing buttheads. The next day, they loveing started vacuuming at 11 PM. I was ready to hurl something at the ceiling.

Just to point out, we've never indicated to them that they're annoying the love out of us. Loud noises are part of living in crapty apartments.

We have (well, at my original home) new neighbours to the side of us. And about half the time, it sounds like the entire family is in the bedroom next to mine just shouting at the top of their voices at each other. There's two little kids screaming, a baby crying, a woman shouting, and they're ALL stamping so loud and slamming ever door... I can't even understand what it IS they scream about constantly, because they're speaking Hindi or something. One of the kids was just bashing our wall for fun the other day. I can't understand how they're not all having a stress breakdown, with the constant screaming/slamming/banging.

They've already had the person who lives below them go and complain to their faces, and there's no change. What a bunch of genitalss. I can only dream of living in a detached house...

@Epathia

My last year of college I ended up renting a 2 room/2 bath apartment with someone instead of living in the dorms and the neighbors across from us were loud.

They were loud enough to the point that my roommate and I could hear every word of every single conversation they had because they'd sit outside and randomly talk and talk and talk... it was ridiculously annoying, but I'm not sure there's much we could of done about it though.

Other than that, apartment life was pretty uneventful and I didn't really see my roommate all that much, she was a grad student in nursing so most of the time( I was in undergrad) I rarely saw her, but rent wise and relationship wise we got along fine though.

Wooow! I can't believe the nerve of people. My sister and I slept in the living room last night and the neighbors above me had their music just blasting. We didn't realize how bad it was until we turned off our TV. They were talking so loud and laughing and you could just hear everything! So I turned on the air conditioning to muffle it out and it actually worked really well. Other than that I love having this place, it feels like home.

@xin

Oh wow... yeah my upstairs neighbors were pretty bad like that last night. Our complex asks that everyone gets quiet at ten PM and this was around one AM that they were doing this. I'm glad that apartment life wasn't too bad though so that's good!

@Epathia

Ours was doing it at night a lot.. I know a couple times I heard them talking around midnight or later outside...

Eventually, we both kind of just got used to it because I'm not sure the management would of done anything about it, and when we told them to be quiet they'd still end up talking loudly. I think I learned more about their lives then I ever wanted to and this was without ever having approached them or even attempting to speak to them.

I have no apartment horror stories, but I did stay at this (admittedly sketchy) motel once, and a group of about 4 people stood directly outside my door and were talking really loudly at like 11 PM. And I was sleeping on the couch that was really close to the door. I mean COME ON! Talk in your own room, please. =_=

As I mentioned, the motel was really scary (I don't know why we stayed there at all) and I was already terrified that someone was going to break in or something. So needless to say, I got very little sleep.

So we move into our apartment and we LOVE the place. Its a nice two story townhome with two large bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. Huge living room with a sliding glass door to a huge shared backyard with an unused soccer field to the right of it. A washer, dryer, dishwasher, fridge, and oven came with it. It had a nice open bar connecting the living room and kitchen. They accepted pets. We had an end apartment and the one on the other side was unoccupied and used for storage.

A month later the downstairs ceiling was leaking from the upstairs bathroom. They come in to "fix" it a couple weeks later by cutting out the damaged ceiling and drywalling it shut. About a week later the dryer broke and they wouldn't fix it. Said it was our problem. As the weeks went by we became unable to sleep. Our neighbors on the complete other side of us would sing, drunkenly, at one in the morning. Tried calling about it and nothing. Finally called the cops, but turned out the people moved out a week after. Other neighbors let their dogs roam freely. One was deaf and almost hit by a car every other day. Another was taken by animal control and the owners never claimed him. The dog was put down. A little dog, about 8 lbs attacked my large dog. My dog has been fear aggressive of little dogs ever since.

A couple months later we noticed a mouse problem. We called the apartment people and they came to take care of it about a month later. They put mouse poisoning in the walls and are done with it. My mom looks into mice infestation a bit more a decides we should move. She starts to look around and finds a place. She pays for it and gets everything ready to move. She goes in to clean and there are roaches EVERYWHERE. She returns the keys and all is well. After this the owner of our current rat infested apartment says he has another apartment available across town. He also offered lower rent (a HUGE discount). We checked out the place. Still in a good location, just different. Access to a pool. Really nice layout and absolutely no signs of a pest infestation. My mom wants to take a day or two to think about it (since she jumped on the roach one too quickly and made a mistake). She then calls him and tells him we'll take it. Turns out he already rented the apartment to someone else. Even though she had already told him what she was doing (she had always paid rent to him on time every month and had been overall great tenants). So she decides we'll stay where we are at. She pulls out everything for a thorough cleaning and finds out the mouse problem was ALOT WORSE than we had thought. The outlet for the stove had a huge hole around it from mouse damage. That was after she pulled out the bottom tray of the fridge and found tons of rat droppings. A good layer of it. And after she found all the mouse pellets behind the couch. Needless to say we finally got out of there. Way too many issues.
*mini rant over*

We like our new apartment and have been there for a year and still like it. We've had a few issues with the neighbors, nothing major though. The ones below us called the owners one night complaining about our television. We never really play it loud, but we guess the bass of the movie must have been going through the floor. The ones across the hall from us moved in a few months ago, and are sometimes pretty loud during the day (teenagers, lol I am too but...haha), but its fine with us since they are quiet at night.

When my family was looking for a house when we first moved to California we rented a little house for a while. It was great and everything was seriously perfect.............. until the sewage started backing up INTO THE HOUSE. It would come through the drains in my brother and parent's bathtubs. Thankfully it never came through mine and my sister's bathroom but omfg, it was seriously the grossest thing ever.

We called the landlords and sewage company, etc. out to fix it multiple times but they could never figure out what the problem was. But there's definitely nothing sanitary about sewage backing up into your home so needless to say we were out of there within months :/ that house was cute but having the sewage smell was SO effing disgusting.

Our trailer is a 1980's model, and the outside is faux wood, so it looks like it's trying to be wood, but it's kind of obvious it isn't. Anyway, ours in our cul-de-sac is the only one like it, and we talked to one of our neighbors, and they've never had it happen... but they have an owl that hangs out around their trailer.

a-hah, get used to it. and if you dont have a job get yourself one now because the i-pay-for-stuff-and-youre-at-home-so-cook-for-me shtick rears it's head pretty quick. in all honesty after living with my bf for 2 years now-- if you can bear it, go back with your parents..
and don't get in the "my boyfriend will take care of me" mindset. good luck with everything, living on your own is really stressful for the most part. make sure you have clean dishes, laundry, carpets, and counters, a paid phone, internet, tv, electric, and water bill, plenty of food, up to date car insurance, healthy pets, and emergency money stashed away for hospital visits or car troubles or an abortion or ANYTHING before you go buying stupid crap like video games and makeup.

and again, good luck!!

and another thing-- it is often annoying and another thing that takes up time but DO plan meals to make that you can your bf can take to work and keep things at home you can eat for breakfast. it is REALLY REALLY REALLY STUPID AND NOT WORTH IT to be spending 14+ dollars every single day on eating out weather it's local, fast food chain or a roach coach just DO IT AT HOME.

When I used to live in an apartment my upstairs neighbors would walk around with very heavy feet at all hours of the night. I got used to it after awhile, until they started to drop large objects that literally sounded like the roof was going to cave in.
I'm living back at home now where nobody can drop bombs on the ceiling above me. We have a female cardinal that thinks the house is her sworn enemy though; every morning she attacks the windows for half hour/hour intervals. She's slowly moved her way around the house attacking all the high windows and then she found the sliding glass door. Smack smack smack /highpitchedchirp smack smack

I hear my upstairs neighbor having sex at 2 in the afternoon most days. His bedroom is above my living room. My kid is in the living room when this happens. I'm so disturbed that I say "Uhhh let's go play in your room for awhile." He used to have a girlfriend that hated it when my daughter played. She's a toddler, she's going to run around and laugh and yes, sometimes even scream. His ex would send him down to yell at me. Funny how that stopped once they broke up!

I just moved into an apartment with my boyfriend as well!
My only woe so far is that there are a lot of really gross bugs in the kitchen And also his roommate lives here also so I can't just walk around naked and whatever xD I have heard the neighbors walking around upstairs but it's not too bothersome. Hopefully I won't find anything else to complain about

Wow... hostile much? Chill out...? I mean, you don't know Epathia, you don't know her home life, you don't know her boyfriend, you don't know anything about her. I'm sure you meant well, but your comment is rude, and off topic. She's responsible enough to handle her home life, and I'm sure she doesn't particularly appreciate having someone tell her what she should and shouldn't do... I mean, you wouldn't like it if I started telling you how to run your apartment, right? I'm sure you meant well, but that post sounds extremely hostile... like you aren't happy with your life, so you're taking it out on her. :

I am collecting any piece of clothing you might have that you don't like! Anything is useful to me!

No stop to my spreading,
Unarmed die around me,

@Epathia

I've been flying solo in my apartment for a little over two years now. I love the freedom it gives me, but at first I was absolutely crushed financially. I mean crushed. Nowadays after a job switch, I'm finally catching up and can properly feed myself, but... there was a week where I had nothing but croutons, ahaha. Happily this is no longer the case, and I'm only looking forwards. ^^

My neighbors and landlord are amazing people, I'm very fortunate for them. I only have two neighbors, honestly; this house is privately owned, the landlord's father living in the front apartment, I'm in the back one, and a friend of my father is upstairs. One of them snuck me chocolate for Easter in my mailbox, for example. So cute.

I don't have a porch light for my little door on the back, which makes it absolutely pitch black at night, which can be unnerving at times, but its all good. The worst would be... well, when I first came in, spiders EVERYWHERE, ahaha. That and we had a mice problem once methinks, I could hear em in the ceiling, but that's taken care of now. Thankfully.

Its been a learning experience. xD I just wish we had a washer/dryer so I didn't have to hand-wash this garbage.

Enter vicious circles,
Feel it close upon YOU.

@Eiikare uh pretty sure you are the one who should chill out. if this is her first time living away from home, there are A LOT of things at risk. they are just thing to be careful of. i'm happy with my home life, but like i said, living on your own is really hard and being a real "adult" takes a lot out of you. those are just things to be careful of. being young, it's east to get caught up in "well i have money so i can do whatever i want with it" but that really isnt the most responsible route. i dont see how i was hostile at all but whatever. just warning her what to look out for living on her own. calm down. and it was completely on topic lol.

What state is it you live in? I'm kinda curious lol
But yeah I hope all goes well with your upstairs neighbors. Apartment living can be good or bad all depending on the place, the management and the others living there.
My first apartment was like a dream, you could barely hear the cars outside.
Second apartment was ok but the neighbors me and the BF I had at the time before we broke up were horrid! They would fight all the time screaming and such at eachother at random times. Even sometimes waking us up in the middle of the night. Worse yet was the water! OMG the water T.T
I suspect at that place it was once a house and they decided to remove the stairs inside, patch up the opening and then make 2 apartments from it. Me and the BF at the time had the bottom one and the top one was bad really bad. if you had water fall out of ANYTHING be it to mop or fill up your tub it RAN down our wall UNDER the floor and damaged the floor as it was wood flooring.
I hope you have nothing like this happen!

@ixtab

I asked about apartment stories.

Also, Eiikare knows the most about me and talks to me every day. We've been best friends for years and I get well enough advice from my parents and her. Only they give it when I ask for it. ^^; I didn't post in the issues and advice forum because I wasn't asking for advice.

@Rydia

Awww my goodness!!! D8 That sounds terrible! So far the only problems have been ants and the sink leaking a little but the maintenance at the apartment complex are coming to fix those things and fill in the holes in the wall! I called right away and it's all better! The first apartment sounds amazing though!

@Epathia
it really was a wonderful place my first apartment ^^ i live in washington so where that one sat it had nice views of trees and hills even though it was in the city.
The second one I'd hate to live back there again. When I lived there it had a yard and parking and whatnot, even a empty field to watch animals wander around in when they were in there. It was reasonable for being behind a liquor store and right next to a highway. I mean the sound proofing was good cuz a few accidents happened while I was home but I didn't hear them happen at all!
But now what little grass there was has been turned to gravel and the field is now a mini storage. No good views there, and the parking seems to be only on the same side as the gas station even though the liquor store got shut down...
