Fortunate ya are" Being a vet was a dream of mine as well, though after a lot of thinking it through and really figuring out the nitty gritty, I think I've figured out a good life plan for myself. Poor guy, Hazel's not really helping with all that upper skin showing. So. Many. H words. FFFFFF *bad idea alert*)

She came to fully lean back against the bar, observing him. It was charming how the simplistic headpiece interested him so. Though perhaps it would be best he didn't pick one up for himself, considering how he was using them. While his intent was sure to be pure, Hazel knew what drew his attention for so long. A second of fixing her mask and hair was taken during his fun, as the goggles had a tendency to uncomfortably compress the two. When he did return to her, a delicate red played over his cheeks. She could only muster a laugh as it clearly showed just what he happened to glance at.

"Dey aren't too rare, 'onestly," she started, still prodding her slightly groomed flurry of white. "Saw a couple topping off a few 'eads during my time 'ere. So if yer looking to snatch one up yerself, probably won't 'ave to go far. Just watch 'ow ya use em. I'd 'ate to start a trend with ya a oogling women"

Platina smiled. "It's a pleasure to meet you. Kai positively raves about you; I was beginning to think you were a legend," he said and winked. He removed his mask and swept a bow to her before he offered his hand. "I'm glad to meet you in person. Are you as stiff as your brother?" he teased.

Shylarah listened to the others introducing themselves, staying quiet for now, but learning their names. Kai, Kia, Platina -- fairly simple names, so she wouldn't have too much trouble pronouncing them.

Devandril watches the shadow flying above on silent wings.

"Dragons," he says at last. "I see dragons, watching over a nameless child with violet eyes and broken wings...."

Kai felt himself blushing even though he tried to stop himself from doing it. He knew he was sometimes too formal or overly polite, but he'd never heard himself described as 'stiff' before either. It also felt strange to be talked about as if he wasn't there. He smiled awkwardly at Kia, but didn't try to defend himself. She seemed to have that under control all ready for him.

Platina laughed, "I would, but you seem to know what I'm talking about." He grinned at Kai, "You're right; you are completely different." What fun! If he couldn't have either of them, at least he knew he could talk to them fairly coherently. "Your brother has very decisively evaded all of my affections," he purred, "I'd say he's done it before."

Wisconsin here. I graduated in computers and also environmental studies, I loved working with wildlife. Mostly birds of prey and wolves. But now work in a local library since environmental jobs are hard to come by unless you do want to live a seasonal life. As it is I do historical tours in the summer starting back in June of a local group of buildings, which I love.))

Solus had distinctly disappeared to the powder room ages ago. Sometimes she had this ability to be forgotten the moment she left company and no one the wiser until she returns. It was a little bit of a mind trick. The tattoos on her arms would glow slightly, casting a shimmer effect with their pulsating. It was an added ability on top of her already blood born butterflies. They too were always hidden close to her body.

Her communicator pinged to life when she was adjusting her mask in the mirror before heading back to the floor. Ugh timing. There was something going down at the warehouse district. A small fire had broken out and spread to some of the outlying buildings. There were now machinery going up in flames. But it seemed like the water had been turned onto the situation to try and get it under control. The whole thing was projected into a small visual square from her watch. She paid close attention to the district block 3, it was a bit of a higher security area with better fire enhanced protector bots. It didn't pay to be cheap when her employer provided the necessary funds. Especially with the ball ending, there were a lot of drunken louts on the streets and this was the perfect time that collections would be made from the indebted, or just plain robbed. With most of the security focused on the shuttle ports everything else was fair game. She could hear the faint whir of propellers hovering over the scene. No doubt the low-life element had something to do with it as it was not a good area to be in and just did not seem like some mechanical failure that caused it. Judging from the proximity of the docks she could at least make her way to her ship and get everything out of there if she made her way there before things got embroiled with the local gangs.

Moving quickly she headed for the servant exit. It would not due to be seen moving through the main gates. Not only that, but the residence had a nice dock in back. She hurried through the kitchens which now had a immense spread of food being prepared. The smell kicked her in the gut, her stomach rumbled reminding her she had not eaten a full meal in days. There had been a satisfactory energy source with her butterflies during the ball, but she refused to tap this new environment and usually only left that to emergencies anyway. She was not taking care of herself. Lightly clicking under her tongue at herself, she made mental note that she would indeed come back and enjoy that meal.

Time moved differently outside of the building. She noticed the date and it was perplexing. Until she saw the embedded alchemy lines in the flagstones, and the clockwork gate gears working in an anti-clock wise rotation. It had really been days since the ball ended but on the inside it felt like hours. It was one hell of a location, she had to give it that. To not only move a small square back in time but a whole mansion. The place really lived outside of the usual guidelines. No wonder she was so hungry. Once outside she felt positively starved. She let the butterflies go in a close circle immediately. Sensing any threat of danger. They had cloyed close to her skin, that the sudden shattering of blood red wings sprayed out like a murder scene. The toxic scent lured to her unwanted attention in massive crowds but on the back streets they were absolutely crucial.

It didn't take long before she found herself greeting the steamworked kumos. He barked and sat with precision. Solus commanded "display surveillance" and a virtual playback of the missing hours began to reel. "Speed up." the images swirled into a fast motion. There were a number of unsaverory elements passing by headed towards the district that was on fire in the footage. None of them loitered in this area as it was better lit and of course had better protection guarding what lay inside. Coming here meant risking being seen. She decided to turn up the alarms and sat down on a crate to program into her communicator the new coordinates for the ball. She had her ship auto programmed and it thrummed to life in a matter of minutes moving to the warehouse location. The ceiling separated with an instant rattling cry as the bay doors opened allowing the ship to dock inside. Her ship was by no means large, but it was paid for and hers. There usually wasn't a lot of crew. She couldn't stand living with many people anyway. She may be social in the masquerade but lived a life of quiet solitude. People tended to be messy with their emotions. She had long since become cold and shut them down to a great extent. She felt curious about life, and liked to stir things in people she herself did not feel.
Moving at a shuffle she loaded the remaining cargo into the hold.

Emptying the building took nearly all night. She wondered what time it was inside the after-party. The clocks seemed to lie, if it had not been for her communicator alerting her she would have thought it was still the same night.

Making use of the airspace she decided to use the mansion and let the servants unload the remaining supplies the mansion had requested. Her ship still had a few crates of other goods but most of it had belonged to the proprietor of this party. Showering in her cabin and firmly securing her mask and hat back into place she decided to rejoin the party.

Platina's response made both of Kia's eyebrows go up towards her hairline. "Evaded your affections?" She glanced between Kai and Platina as her surprised look turned to more of a frown. "What are you implying sir?" Yes, she might have been getting a little defensive for her brother.

Kia's tone made Shylarah automatically drop left hand to rest on the hilt of the sword sheathed at her left side. It was unlikely a fight would break out, but it was a subconscious reaction to the tension in the air.

"Don't take me wrong, milady." Platina smiled at her to put her at ease. "I would do nothing to harm anyone here." She was still funny though; so protective. Siblings, twins, were fascinating to him. Platina was the elder brother, but his younger brother, Kasiya, was born to another woman after Platina's mother had died. By the time Kasiya was born, Platina was out of the house due to other issues that had come up. "I'm very fond of Kai."

"It's all right, Kia," Kai said, trying to ease the tension with a placating hand on his sister's shoulder. "I appreciate your defense, but it is entirely unnecessary. We've already settled that situation; didn't we?" He looked up at Platina with a disarming smile, really attempting to get the two of them to settle down and talk without confrontation.

"Indeed we have." Platina smiled disarmingly, absolutely pouring on the charm. He had the idea that if he got on the wrong side of this woman, there would be limbs to be collected. That was her own charm and appeal though. Platina wondered if this was why his own interests swung a different way. He wasn't strong enough to go against the females, so he opted for the males. Pretty males, of course.

Kia eyed the two of them suspiciously. It was obvious from her expression that she didn't quite believe them, or really liked the way that Platina kept pouring on the charm, it was the same thing that the stupid brutes her mother pushed at her would do to try and win her over. It made her not want to trust him on principle. She sighed after a moment and rolled her eyes, shrugging. "Fine. However, I shall be watching you." She said and pointed a finger at him.

"Kia..." Kai rubbed his hand over his eyes, mildly exasperated with his sister. With an overbearing mother and such a strong-willed sister, it shouldn't be too surprising for Kai's own interests to shy away from the so-called 'fairer' sex. "Well, I am happy that I was able to have the chance to introduce you both, at least."

Oh my. Platina held his hands up, and he took a step back. "Please do. I enjoy attention," he said, before he gave a bow and headed away. The room was becoming stifling, but so was the tension gathered from the female Kai. He opened the door to the balcony and sucked in a lungful of air. Women just were not for him.

Kia sighed and seemed to deflate slightly as she frowned apologetically at Kai. "I've done it again, haven't I?" she rubbed her own eyes and shook her head. "Perhaps I should see if there is a library. It appears the only things that I cannot offend are Celinox and books."

Kai gave her a hug and kissed her cheek. "I love you, my sister, but you do certainly have a distinct way of pushing people as far from you as you can." he smiled and adjusted Kia's hair, tucking it back away from her face and making sure her hat was at just the right jaunty angle. "Don't spend the whole time sequestered away. Other people do actually enjoy your company, you know."

Adjusting Kia's hair once more, Kai smiled and followed Platina out to the balcony. "My apologies. My sister tends to be a little overprotective at times."

"Oh no, it's fine. She has a right to be, with such a ridiculous rake after you," Platina replied with a chuckle as he leaned on the balcony. "I take it it's always like this though..." Over protective sister. It was kind of cute, actually. Kai was very well-taken care of; he didn't need another person looking out for him.

"You are anything but a rake," Kai said, scoffing at the very thought of it. "Kia and I are very close. I believe that she would not be able to dress herself without my help, and it seems like she believes I would not be able to stand up for myself without her help. We love each other dearly, but sometimes we exasperate each other. Typical siblings, to the best of my knowledge." It was true that there genuinely times when Kai really needed Kia's protection; he was far too accommodating and hated to appear rude, which sometimes meant that he would be talked into doing things he did not want to do.

He'd dabbled in politics a short while, but what he found out was not only did you have to keep to the letter and spirit of your word, but you had to keep your nose clean and show competence from your first day of human interaction or other politicians would eat you alive. Business law was more about word and spirit, with contemporary actions being more important.

Liana laughed a little as she scratched Mog beneath his collar and as a result his purrs grew louder. "Oh well... I put the bow-tie on him just for fun and when I decided to see if I could balance the hat..." She grinned though her mask did well to conceal it. "He wouldn't let me take them off..." She leaned in a little closer. "Of course there was a bit of spell work involved, a simple placement incantation if I recall..." Obviously she hadn't the foresight to see that of course people would be curious as to how the cat managed to balance the top hat all by himself. If she hadn't wanted to discuss the workings of even simple magic why had she risked bringing the furry creature at all? Such was the folly of youth, and secretly perhaps she longed to discuss the unusual art with some one.

Her eyes scanned the room again this time unable to spot the man she had taken notice of earlier. Her heart sort of sank, she hoped he hadn't left. What she did notice was the growing popularity of loosing ones mask. A shiver ran down her spine, she hadn't come prepared for this. Subconsciously she reached and ran a delicate finger around the mask where he cheek should be. An anxiety that had laid dormant now began to stir and her heart picked up the pace. With all the internal commotion going on she hadn't had the time to properly feel out the present situation and had therefor blindly walked into a timeless space, a trick that often lead people to their fates. For some one who considered herself magically perceptive, this was a mistake that would perhaps come to haunt her in time. And so the lady stood unknowing with a nervousness growing inside her chest for a reason she couldn't exactly pinpoint. Dismissing it simply as a case of the nerves.

"I can't believe I have to be leaving and coming back ALL THE TIME. Seriously, when will I get the time to enjoy my friend's company??" she grumbled to herself.

Althoug she didn't leave Ziara City, her brother ended up taking much of her time. Of course she wouldn't leave him alone, but still she wished he was in a better state of mind. Perhaps if someone here would...? Oh, it was no use to think of it. Her brother wouldn't even leave the house, much less attending the party.

Lost in her thoughts as she was, Sui didn't even notice @ in the way and bumped into her.

"Oh, sorry, I was~ Liana!! I haven't seen you since the new party has started! How have you been??" without a second thought, Sui hugged her. It was true they haven't spent much time together, but Sui had already grown very fond of Liana.

The Marquis' blush grew even brighter when he heard her laugh and he murmured quickly to try and absolve himself of his embarrassment, "I sincerely beg your apologies, miss Hazel! It was not my intention to gaze at your...umm...chest." He carefully removed the goggles, offering them back out to Hazel, not realizing that they had mussed up his hair a little. "Perhaps I'll invest in a pair..." he muttered before glancing up at Hazel quickly, his blush coming back full force. "Oogling women is not a hobby of mine, I assure you!" He blurted out somewhat indignantly, his embarrassment causing him to do so. "Now, may I please ask your assistance once more? Perhaps you could give me an idea of where to find these strange goggles of yours."

Solus returned and looked quizzically at an open balcony area where she saw @ and @ deep in discussion. Platina looked like he wanted to get away when she noticed the young lady not far behind Kai. Making her way through the kitchen area and plucking a piece of meat from some sort of duck, she suckled the warm juice that sprang forth from it. The taste only made her want more. But she would pick up something else after she went to see what was going on.

Making her way through the maze-like building she saw the balcony doors open, gauzy draping swayed in the Ziaran air. A flash of blue color caught her eye and she noticed the wings that splayed mechanically. Solus came up behind them as they stared out at the city. The smoke from the warehouse district was barely visible beyond the gated walls, but you could smell it in the air.

"I turn my back for one moment and the both of you are at it again!" She spoke loud enough to break up whatever Kai and Platina were saying. "Oh, the angst you bring! You best be lucky I am not a romance author," folding her arms and knotting her fists by her chest in a love struck fashion. Of course Solus had met Kai's sister days ago, and at least knew of her existence in his life since masquerades past. Poor Platina, he did have grand taste but this would probably never be a catch.

She settled instead on adjusting her glasses. She knew some preferred to see her wearing bright colors like her name bespoke, but after spending the night in the warehouse district the smoke and clutter muted her sense of self. Instead she opted for something more practical. She could always access her ship in a mere matter of minutes and do another wardrobe change. But having put the final touches on her secured shipment it was better this way. Business kept creeping up on her like a bad hangover. It did not look like that would change. At least she was now aware of the time differentials.

((I meant to post this last night but my server died mid-post, still fiddling with my wardrobe. Went to repost it hoping my message saved and look what I got! Wow, how lucky.

((@SolusAurora Is it okay to have more than one character at the masque? I'm more than capable of handling several characters at a time, and I don't think Shylarah is going to be bold enough, with her limited grasp on the language, to insert herself into a conversation uninvited, which leaves me with limited opportunities for interaction. I've got a couple other characters that might be a bit bolder, though.))

@ (Hazel: "Den why not give yerself a change? Find something more suitable to yer liking, as I've done. Ya certainly look a bit..constricted" You almost say the same for her, if you catch my drift. Thank you! Though with me only just now getting up at nearly four, my chances aren't high. =-= I really need to kick myself in the butt and hop off to bed sooner! But I have other late nighters who love to call me at 2 am and keep me up until 6. Indirect is the best way to go. ;D)

She accepted them back, holding onto them for the time. No need to mess up her hair so soon. Instead, she felt herself tracing along the smoothed metal, feeling the ridge of the gear-like connecter, and finally the rough leather, giving her the slightest sense of remembrance. Though she kept to him, continuing their chat, chuckling at his slips.

"Fer da life a me, I kin not recall da place a purchase fer dese peculiar things," her arms inched forward, offering them back. "I'm sure I could always find myself another pair"

What was this sympathy she held for him? A quick mental scolding and she retracted, firmly reattaching the object to her head. Maybe she could find him a pair, not herself.

"Slip a da tongue," she muttered, straightening her voice upon correcting. "I'm sure I could always find ya pair, as dey seem plentiful"

From the strap of the goggles, she felt her finger slide down and catch in the drooping chain hooked up to her ear. It gave little tugs, occupying itself in a new way. The opposite arm pushed its way under the elbow of the busy hand, letting it do as it pleased. She quickly found her head tilting, giving off an almost bored look from her.

"Ya do well enough, I'd say. 'Aven't tried to grab anything ya shouldn't be," she went on in this state. "Don't 'ave many female companions, do ya?"

Platina was about to respond when Solus came in on their conversation. His face turned red when she mentioned the angst he brought. His life really could be a romance novel? He felt a bit humiliated, but he had to laugh. It was true. He was ridiculous most of the time. "I'm sorry; I do not mean to ah... bring dark clouds with me wherever I go." Angst... like teenage angst! Hah.

It wasn't like she was a perpendicularly bad person she just had a hard start on life. Kat wasn't her only nickname...Thief, pickpocket, she-devil, worthless, and several others with negative connotations. Most of those days were long behind her, when she was young and had a narrow path choice. Though it was ironic to her that she'd find refuge of friendship in a lawyer. Smiling at Odel's affection gesture she caught the hand before it returned to his side, "Business lawyer hm? I've spent most of Masquerade with you and I still know next to nothing about you Odel, you're like a puzzle. And I do intend to solve it." Sealing the promise with a on his cheek.

I will let everyone else say what they want, but since we are just starting out and you know your limitations I will let you do that. Maybe for future character changes, we can allow you to add in another to spice things up, but right now lets just keep it at one. I am also going to request HA changes when you do that though. Since it is easier to identify with appearance. I do not think that I will allow anyone to play 2 at the same time though and allow you to talk to each other. Some time continuum law XD ))

Solus saw Platina rise to her comments. It was easy to tease a reaction out of him to make him freeze in his tracks. "Anything but dark clouds. In fact I think it is more like the sunshine after the storm that brings the rainbow." She knew he might misinterpret what she was saying. Reassuring him with a light nudge. She seldom wore her heart on her sleeve, but was always drawn to people that did.

"I think it is about dinner time." She spun him around from the balcony and back inside, and she was right. A low gong was sounded and the table that had been being set was finished. Crystal glasses shone with flickering candles and a huge buffet of food was aligned. But the main courses were held in a train to be served by fine butlers. "Can I take one of the butlers home too?" She winked playfully at @ "Let's go eat!"

Kai flushed, a look of pure annoyance flickering on his face before he turned to face Solus. The only person who could have seen it would be Platina. When he turned to Solus, his face was schooled in his usual friendly expression though his eyes were flinty. "Angst? My apologies, Solus, but I simply do not understand your meaning. Do you find something uncomfortable about our being friends? Please do not take this the wrong way, as I have no intent to be rude, but do you even know what we were discussing before you decided to interrupt us?" Kai's back was very straight, his shoulders very squared, his chin held just a fraction too high.

Much against his will, but considering his sister's words, Eric left his home to attend the ball at least once again. If it wasn't to his liking, he might as well go back to the cave his house had become. Should he feel neglected, going back would be just as easy. But could the Masquerade really do him well, as his sister thought? The last time had provided him with great experience, and delightful feelings... only to steal it all away when he was most in need.

"I wonder if I'll be accepted in these halls again... *sigh* Why on Atebus Moon would I hear my little sister's plea? What am I doing here..." Eric though to himself, sipping on his drink by the bar. He saw people approaching~

((@SolusAurora <.< My avatar looks nothing like my character, and probably seldom will -- that's why I posted a picture of her. Well, I'll see if I can't get involved in things. If not, I'll let Shylarah fade and bring in either Angie or Rey. Also, is it necessary to ping the people involved in each post? I feel incredibly awkward doing so, since I'm not directly involving anyone at the moment, and don't know who might take notice and who will just feel pestered. It would be different if I was actually in a conversation, but right now it makes me feel like I'm acting desperate for attention.))

Shylarah turned from the doorway to the balcony at the sound of the gong, tensing up as it sounded a bit like an alert or alarm of some sort to her, but relaxed when she saw people just heading for the tables and not hurrying about in preparation. The words of the newcomer reassured her as well. Her ears tilted upwards slightly as she heard Kai say an unfamiliar name: Solus. %That must be the person that just arrived,% she thought to herself. She would wait for the others to make it to the table before sitting herself; that way she could be certain to grab a seat next to the group she had been loosely orbiting so far during the event. Perhaps she would be able to make some simple conversation, and if not she could always listen.

@ When you switch I will post up the new info, until then will just go with it. I have enough on my schedule at the moment not to take too much worry in these things or get too heavy about "rules" We are pretty much making up our own right now.))

Spring flowers adorned the table, the next holiday had been held off waiting in the wings for the Masquerade to happen. it was only natural that they took use of the light greenery that adorned the Peka Glade. She wondered briefly how many trips it had taken to fill all the vases full of their beauty? Women decked out in rustling pettycoats and frills looked just like flowers or maybe cakes. But the men strutted proud like peacocks. Speaking of peaRoosters she had one right in front of her. He was showing a bit of his metal. His jaw was squared and tensing. She felt like @ never got to play enough as as a child with others. Perhaps a strict up bringing. More than likely.

"Peace Kai." She held her hands up in a playful defeat. "I find nothing curious as you not taking my words lightly and playfully as a feather. We have known and danced for years now." It did not feel like he ever quite got her. "You should have more friends in fact like our noble Platina." Solus never let her hands slip in Kai's company during a dance. He held his arms square and solid, yet moved fluidly. He was like that in conversation as well. Brushing off his comment about what they had been talking about, which was like walking onto a mine trap.

Taking both of the boys arms she pulled them inside. Even if resisting they had to get off the damned veranda. Let them both stop running away, their friendship felt a bit like magnets at times. Pushing and pulling, yet always drawn back to each other.

She looked out of the corner of her eye as they were seated. Someone had been watching her but it was hard to tell whom in this mix.

He looked away from his sister and his eyes fell on the colorful lady. Rather, green lady. Eric acknowledged Solus bowing his head a little. She looked quite different now than the last time they had met and danced. He stood and went to her.

"Good evening, my lady. I'm sorry to interrupt, but I couldn't ignore your presence." he said as he took her hand and kissed the lace covered skin.

(ooc: Personally, it's incredibly difficult for me to notice posts unless I've been tagged. For example, I had no idea that Shylarah was hovering around Kai until just a few minutes ago, because I didn't know he was involved in any of her posts. Also, this is a Human Avatar based roleplay. Please have your avatar match your character, otherwise we don't really know what you look like. Even if you've posted a picture, not everyone is going to notice - it's much more convenient for everyone involved to just match your avatar to your character

Just my two cents as the MasqueRP group admin.)
