Solus did not put it past the existence of the real dopplegangers but she was fortunate enough not to meet one, and sure she never wanted to.

"Ah, pumpkins aside. I have spent at least a week on the outside doing errands aboard my ship." She tried to gauge the reaction to the time differentials. Not that she wanted or was going to leave any time soon. She always felt like time was trying to catch up with her the moment she walked out of the doors of the great hall. It was a feeling that made you want to turn right back around and never leave. That yearning to stay young could be achieved inside these walls. Whoever had acquired the means to build such a thing was very talented and rich to make it so. She wondered if they ever left these halls, and if you spent years in here that the clock would painfully catch up to you? The alchemists had her admiration.
"I do not plan on leaving again for an extended shipment but you never know, I am quite the desired pilot. Though pumpkins not being my specialty." She jested to Odel.

That she at least had a simple sense of humor brought small grin to his face, "I doubt they'd make good airships anyways," he noted. Odel straightened up and looked across the courtyard. Where was Kat? His eyebrows tented and his smile slackened, giving him a somewhat lost expression.
"With as much as you've said so far, I would be wrong to assume you had company for the evening?" this conversation would have an entirely different color to him if other thoughts hadn't been on his mind recently, but perhaps some more familiar territory would ease his mind.

"I could have sworn I saw @Desugirl duck into the maze, but I could be wrong. Like I said, I had been gone so all my former dance partners are scattered all over this mansion. Would you care to look for the others?" She sat up, smoothing out her garments. Ready once again to venture through the maze. She was sure Odel knew his way around this maze a bit better than she. Her GPS fizzled a bit with static, this place was like one giant closed door until she mapped it personally. At this point it felt like a hiding game, and she was up for a little fun even if the fountain was rather lovely. At least it made for a good meet point where she could try and get her bearings.

"Then perhaps you should look for her? he suggested, getting up and offering her a hand to get up. No she had people she knew here, and perhaps to spend the evening with, "I'm afraid simply I'm looking for Katrina, so we will have to part ways." he advised.
He tamped down mental protests to his continued presence in a courtyard that was clearly lacking the one he sought, they'd get a turn eventually. Besides, this was something a little more comforting than thinking on feelings of a feather-light heart or screams and fire.

(@ I wasn't worried ; I'm finally done with AP testing, such a liberating feeling, so I'll be on more.)
Kat jumped as the ringing of the grandfather clock echoed throughout the library. Shaking her head, midnight was ever so the cliché. Letting out a sigh as she got up and brushed some invisible dust from her skirt, the time for thinking had passed for both herself and Odel. She just hoped he had shed off some of his previous burden but in truth she missed his company and if he needed some more time to mull things over, she wasn't quite sure she could give him that. Striding out of the library Kat skittered along the side of the ballroom...frowning at the lack of blue in the crowd. Running a quick hand through her hair, she pulled out one of the pins Odel had given her and played with it nervously. It was the most she had of him at the moment, and as pathetic as is sounded, it brought her some comfort. With a moment of consideration, she stepped outside into the maze, the outdoors and the fresh air were always welcome.

Mog was slightly shocked at the impressive rate the ladies plate went from heaping to practically barren. Suddenly the man across the table looked not so troublesome sitting there with a full plate hardly touching a thing. Putting on his most innocent face Mog yawned, stretched, and casually sauntered toward David. Stopping about a foot away from the man Mog sat and began to feign washing his face all the while keeping a sharp eye on both the man and his plate of ill-protected food.

Solus looked at the maze and then looked down at her communicator that dually served as a GPS unit. She supposed she had enough of the maze mapped to find her way out. She was curious what the shape of it actually was. "Well I will let you go find Katrina if you can tell me what shape we have been walking in?" She prompted to Odel. Maybe he knew, maybe he didn't care. She wanted to play cat and mouse a little but her usual company had slide away in the "hours" since she had made her trip in.

Her present company had eyes on another prize obviously and that was perfectly ok with her. She would bet there were others out here taking in the maze. She heard echos of voices and steps not that far off. The whispers rebounded on the petals of roses like spell, their scent just as intoxicating as liquor and seemed a strange breed that could all together make you disoriented if you lifted it to your nose.

Her beautiful blood jeweled butterflies drank in their vitality like a toxin and twirled off dizzily to another and another, far outpacing her usual reach. She hoped that Odel did not notice them. Instead of holding his gaze for an answer about the maze she turned and lifted her parasol to the light that penetrated the domes of Ziara-city. Shielding her eyes as they grew crimson with each drink the butterflies took. Thirst rose for a moment in her throat and she decided to follow them before they vaporized in their wandering distance.

She held her step for a moment wondering if Odel would follow or turn in another direction. She never knew what kind of dangerous company people presented but was sure that she was a bit of a viper herself and she was testing her limits. With her free hand she slid it down to the flask belted to her hip. With a quick barely noticeable grace she poured the viscous liquid between her lips. Feeling a bit of a rush, it settled the rising thirst that grew from the roses butterfly nectar.

Odel placed a hand on his chin and let his vision wander off of Solus to the flitting butterflies as he thought. Having recently traversed a piece of the maze, he could perhaps easily puzzle his way back out along the similar path. The maze itself was set up in a somewhat circular fashion for aesthetic purposes, as had a great number of other objects in this garden. The butterflies were unusual, but as were many creatures around. He noted them and their unusual proximity to a person - namely Solus - but otherwise made the rough assumption that they were a creature brought in because this was an aristocratic party. He'd heard of such things flying about - more commonly during one of the epidemic celebrations, but he didn't exactly spend much time on the planet around that time of year, and where he did go around those times was farther removed from the virulent hot spots.
"The maze is somewhat circluar, but most of the path was spent on the sides nearest the building," he supposed. He followed after Solus, and put an arm around her waist, gently guiding her back to the maze. The door they needed was on the opposite side of the maze. At least, the place had been set up so that in order to get to this area you were required to take the maze. Cute, but probably a pain for gardeners to upkeep unless they had another way around.

Solus watched Odel's eyes flutter after the butterflies. He didn't seemed alarmed, as well as some would had they been close to the virulent virus that swept Subeta a couple years ago. Of course if she had not also undergone the lab ray this past fall he may well have been. The dark-tan of Merna's blessing was a whispering curse whose tattoos glowed in provocation or spoken incantations. She had little to do with the sea-witch most times, but her summons could easily be easily detected. She was all right with that. Every part of her upbringing led her close to the edge, forbidden knowledge always had a price.

She thought about Odel's suggestion that it was somewhat circular, "Could we be walking a giant rose?" It seemed so prevalent a theme in all the architecture, perhaps hinting at owner's own name. The living route wound itself around the participants, stealing soul's into it's thorny embrace.

She let Odel's arm slip around her waist as they turned towards the thorny path outward.

A speaker crackled to join Garret Fox in a large display area of the mansion's port entrance. The masquerade participants let up a cheer and just over the hedges her butterflies visioned her a slow crowd making their way towards the specified location. "I guess we are getting a car show!" Not that she particularly was interested in the automotive industry, but still the ever present business aspect of the event this year shone through.

She smiled and laughed as Haku pulled on a strand of hair, not enjoying being ignored for the time being." I am absolutely starved. Hardly have had any thing to eat today." She laughed and pulled them over towards the table.

The woman watched as her mooching little friend migrated to new waters. A finer platter to head towards, seeing as it'd up and starve trying to get anymore food from Hazel. In fact, she'd all but eaten the plate itself within a matter of minutes. Content with the meal consumed, she leaned back in her chair, lightly patting her belly.

"Mmmm,thatwas good," she complimented the chief, even adding a ferocious burp at the end. "Been a while since I 'ad something so tasty. 'Ow's yers fairing? Ya don't seem to really want it. Not feeling sick, are ya?"

There was a flicker of concern in her eye. The boy's mood swung more than a giddy monkey on a vine, she wondered how natural that was. Carefully, she stood, not wanting to disrupt the contents of her stomach and waddled to his side. She gave herself a better look at him, grabbing his chin and examining the whole of his face. Letting go of it upon seeing nothing noticeably wrong, she set the back of her palm against his forehead. With it not feeling warm and no outward need to send for a doctor, she sighed and straightened up.

"If it isn't physical, kin I safely assume it's more emotional, den? I won't go picking and prying into yer mind, I jess want ya to lighten up a bit" Her arms stretched out to the room. "Dis is a party after all. Yer supposed to be enjoying yerself, not weeping over dinner" Then they came back, crossing over her chest. "If ya really want, I'll offer ya a dance, but only one and it kin not be long. Dancing is not my forte in the least, but if it will cheer ya up, den I shall give in"

Poor girl. Starting to get too nice for her own good. She shook her head, sighing. Maybe she should just make a run for it now. Get out before the going gets rough since the tough get going. Why was this buffoon tugging at her heart strings? Why did he bring the human compassion locked inside her out? Something about him told her he's lived a sheltered life. A life where he was guaranteed a brighter tomorrow and a better today. The life she's been trying to live all hers. Maybe leaving would do him a world of good, giving him a little more life experience and showing him not everyone was kind. Then why wouldn't her feet move when her brain gave the commands? Why did she, instead, return to her seat and wait? David must've been rubbing off on her. Oh how she was afraid of that. Next she knew, she'd be asking him to tea and crumpets or propose a game of cricket and the notion of either made her stomach churn. Confliction, without a doubt, was one of the most dreadful feelings one could have and she rested her head against the table. Now she wasn't feeling too hot.

Much to Odel's amusement, he could hear footsteps aside from Solus' and his. People were still meandering about here, probably to get a break from the dancing.
He was spending a little more time tracking the path they had taken so far and comparing it to what little he knew about the maze to actually pay a great deal of attention to the faces of those they passed, only giving them enough mind as to not bump into them. It was still a surprise when Kat came into view around a turn. Her outfit and hair was a great contrast to the greens and reds of the maze.
It hadn't actually occured to him just yet that his posture could be misread - something he was usually very keen about - but then again he usually manuvered the social pieces to avoid awkward encounters.

Solus kept one eye on the hedge and another on her gps as the path unfolded. It was indeed like watching a rose bloom to life. Odel seemed to perk up at the sounds of close footsteps as and then they would fade. The anticipatory nature let her think of a eager puppy.

When Kat came into view Odel curiously came to a dead stop and she with him. Gently unwinding her arm from his to fold her parasol she waited patiently to see how this would play out.

His glanced to Solus when she pulled away slightly and took a more closed posture. Taking the cue, he took his hand off her waist - about now he realized a reaction Kat might have, having just found him walking around with his arm around another girl. In his defense - he thought - it was habit for him to do so instead of merely walking side by side or holding hands which had an entirely different connotation. He changed his attention from who was present and their actions and more specifically to Kat.
"I was hoping I'd find you," uncertain if even a smile smile could send the wrong message, he deferred to a glad inflection in his voice.

Kat wasn't paying attention to the footsteps that were heard throughout the maze just glancing up once in awhile looking for that splash of blue. The pin in her hand was replaced by a bright red rose which she was spinning around giving her an air of one who has preoccupied thoughts. When she looked up and saw Odel in front of her, the look of happiness wasn't hidden when her eyes met gold for a brief moment before her attention turned to his company. Of course she was curious for the reason Odel was out here with her, maybe she had helped him sort through his thoughts? Although she was happy if that was the case...even so it made her feel slightly envious that he had turned to this girl for comfort instead of her. Shaking the selfishness away Kat addressed Solus with a smile, "Thank you for watching him in my absence. I do hope he wasn't too much trouble." Sending a smirk in Odel's direction before offering the rose to Solus.

Solus regarded Katrina, "I was looking for my former companions after a short departure from the events and came back in through the maze when Odel found me. In fact, I think he was looking for you." She paused and briefly looked at Odel. "He is a well mannered escort, without fault." Solus hated explaining herself, but it did look like they had come out of tryst. She felt she owed these two for no real reason. Maybe her recent past between friends may have something to do with her recent misgivings on how to handle these awkward social situations. She wavered between letting these two be or trying to find the others.

Kat couldn't help but feel a sense of relief after hearing the explanation and with a glance toward Odel it seemed like he felt likewise. Though by judging Solus' body language she didn't seem to feel the same and Kat hated to burden other people with the sensation of being uncomfortable, looking back on her previous actions she supposed that it was rather rude of herself to place an awkward silence over the three of them. Suddenly feeling self-conscious Kat twirled the rose in hand and although there was a nagging feeling in the back of her mind to let Solus continue on her search alone while she questioned Odel, she thought it impolite," I didn't mean to pause you in your searching, do you want some help in finding the others?"

Escort. Interesting choice of word he thought, before backtracking and remembering not everyone paid as close attention to their words as he did. Well, he hadn't been glared at or slapped yet, or worse, so maybe he was in the clear.
"We'd run into each other at the masquerade from earlier," he said, taking the step or two it took to leave Solus' side and join Kat, "It was wonderful to see a familiar face. On a different topic," he said, attempting to change the conversation, "have you made any progress on that riddle?"
He expected she wouldn't speak excessively when she replied, so even if she blurted out the answer - making the bold assumption she had it already - anyone else would have little or no context to go on.

David stared at his food, picking at it quietly until he heard Hazel's voice and, before he knew it, her hands against his skin. He would've blushed normally but this felt more comforting than flirtatious, considering how she was checking him for sickness. So he stared up at her, a strange innocence shining in his eyes, reminiscent of the child he felt like, waiting for her to finish her checkup. Yet he was sad when she did finish, smiling lightly and ruefully. "Thank you, miss Hazel, for your kind offer. I am feeling a little down, I suppose, particularly because Liana hasn't spoken to me even once at this party though I felt certain I would've met up with her here by now." He rubbed the back of his neck, thinking about her offer. Would dancing make him happy? He was certain it was making his father happy, wherever he was, that his son was finally dancing after avoiding it for so long. Soon David nodded only to see that Hazel's head was against the table and he automatically assumed the worst: that she had passed out. "Hazel!" he blurted out, unable to keep the worry from entering his voice as he flung his fork, shoved his chair back, sending it to the ground where it clattered loudly, and rushed to her side. He instantly leaned in close, placing his hands on her shoulders as he gazed at her face intently, not knowing what to do to help her out.

To win, to survive, I thought you had to fight with a sword.

She let out a giggle, it was obvious that Odel had been anxious about her reaction after finding him with another girl, and in short Kat found it rather endearing. Almost cute, although she would never tell Odel to his face, knowing he would want more masculine compliments but teasing him could come later. "I would like to think I have, though probably not as much as I would have liked, but we can discus that later" and with that Kat closed the distance between them and leaned up to whisper in Odel's ear, "won't we Mr. Tamesis?"

Odel raised his eyebrows in intrigue behind his mask, as what she spoke rang true not only to his ears but on a deeper level. He'd expected her to get a close approximation of the first name first, which would have only sounded right, but not felt right. Interesting.
"I think I like that idea," he replied, before again addressing Solus, "You expressed interest in getting through this maze again, shall we lead you the rest of the way?"

The jumble of thoughts seemed to be clearing. Ignoring them usually did the trick, but there always remained a few stragglers. Though anything that might have pried away her attention died instantly from the screeching of her name, followed by an array of obnoxious noises. With two gripping hands on either blade, Hazel was pulled into an upright position, forced to look at, who else, but David.

"What!? What is wrong?" she exclaimed, eyes wide, unable to comprehend the sudden panic in him. "I swear I haven't done anything!"

Only after she'd said it did she consider the problem to not be related to her sticky fingers or natural ability to cause chaos. The worry-stricken gaze was more than enough to show her that wasn't the case, but she still didn't quite get what his deal was. All she had done was rest her head a brief moment. The shock, by then, had dwindled down to sheer puzzlement as she stared back, continuously caught off guard by the actions of this boy. Which was strange on her behalf since it was usually her throwing people for a loop, rarely ever the other way around.

She smiled, once she understood the compliment. "I no'h here, last year. This world new world for me," Shylarah told the man. Her expression lit up at the mention of dancing. "Please yes," she replied, excited. "I like dans, but dans here is different from home." She walked with Platina to the dance floor and looked to him for direction. She was pretty good at following a lead.

Devandril watches the shadow flying above on silent wings.

"Dragons," he says at last. "I see dragons, watching over a nameless child with violet eyes and broken wings...."

Solus decided 3 was not company. "I think I got it from here." Giving an icy smile before disappearing behind a maze hedge. The little display was really common in the ballroom, and somewhat too sugary for her liking. She supposed she would find out what everyone was up to without aid. This time, heading straight for the exit, no assistance ever needed. Faint interest in the little mystery evaporated. She had no interest in returning to the banquet and went to go seek the women's powder room instead. It seemed like a safe get-away for the moment.

Odel's eyes tracked Solus as she walked off - maybe it wasn't jealousy from Kat he had to worry about, but rather Solus? Whatever the reason, the air had felt a little heavier starting with Kat's arrival and only abating once Solus was well out of sight.
"So where did you run off to while I was away?" he asked curiously after he could no longer distinguish Solus' footfalls from the rest of the bustle beyond and within the maze.

(@ x3 it just hit me how the interactions between the Kat and Odel could have been perceived. No wonder she seemed so irked.)

Taking a glance over her shoulder at him,"Well, I was here and there, for all you know I may have been in company of another boy?" tapping Odel playful on the nose with a rose.

Odel chuckled lightly, "Some. It's no fun if her will has all the fortitude of warm putty. I'd expect boy-toy seeking from Mademoiselle Lockwell, you don't strike me as the type."
He also didn't care for those with an iron will. There was a certain kind of thrill in breaking someone's will, but with his decidedly cushy lifestyle he found it less palatable than before to tussle with the strong-minded.

Tossing the rose behind her Kat sauntered over to stand beside Odel, " I would never think of another person as a 'toy' regardless if there's real feelings there or not. And anyways you are keeping me quite entertained so there is no need to go 'seeking' as you put it." The smile slowly faded into a concerned look as she twiddled with her fingers before speaking, "I don't mean to pry Odel, but are you quite alright? I mean you did leave in quite a rush...and I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about you, but if you wish to drop the subject that is fine as well, all I wish is to know you're all right."

Odel's smile drifted into a a more serious expression. He supposed he had left for less than obvious reasons. It hadn't actually crossed his mind to blame it on food or a medical condition - those sorts of things always caused more problems down the road so he avoided them.
Then again she hadn't asked for him to explain specifics, "Yes, I'm fine."

Kat watch him with a weary eye, she had her doubts from the beginning that he would actually confide his troubles in her, but what was the harm in asking? Letting a inaudible sigh out she smiled warmly up at Odel and reached up to cup his cheek. "If you say so, now we should start heading back towards the manor...unless you have any other ideas?"

He put his own hand on her cheek and held it there for a while, "All sorts of ideas, some I can't voice aloud," he teased, and pulled her a little closer to kiss her. "How about we go to the other end of this maze, mm?" he suggested, instead of his usual approach of asking her for suggestions.

Kat's eyes fluttered shut as Odel kissed her. It was a nice feeling....warm and safe, something she hadn't felt in a long time. She had no problem admitting her affection for the man, she liked him...a lot but she couldn't help feeling saying she just 'liked' Odel felt somewhat odd. Something to ponder on later, for the moment instead she gave him a playful smile, " It's awful to get one's curiosity perked, only to disappoint. So if you mustn't verbalize them aloud, you must show me some of these ideas later, deal?" With that she laced him fingers with his willing to let him lead for the time being.

Normally he would expect to have his mind troubled with curiosity about whether she'd puzzled everything out in the riddle or not, or with the unrest that came with a vice left unsated. Oddly enough he was finding that sort of unrest easier to manage, possibly because her presence was unexpectedly distracting or enjoyable - he wasn't quite sure which.
Within short order they made it to the fountain on the far side of the maze. Still a pretty fixture, but not necessarily grabbing at his attention as much as it had the first time he saw it.

He seemed rather unfocused...and Kat couldn't help wonder what he was thinking about. It was strange, she generally was able to read most people without much struggle, Odel though was another story. He had kept her on her toes more often than not and his obvious unease with this whole riddle had just added to her puzzlement. It was frustrating having an answer in reach but at the moment she was perplexed, it would come to her within time so there was nothing to be too worried with...for now. However his being by her side once again proved somewhat of a distraction, gazing at the reflections in the rippling water, " This seems a bit déjà vu of our last garden trip, does it not?" Taking a moment to glance towards Odel with a soft smile.

Odel actually took a moment to take a look around them. Garden, fountain, rose bushes...Not the same layout, but certainly familiar kinds of fixtures, "Ah, so it is," he agreed in an amused tone, returning the smile. Among his likes were puns and esoteric humor (in-jokes), and it caught him as a little funny that some of the fancy party gardens were so similar - and here they were.
He sat down on the stonework bench and beckoned her to sit next to him. He would appologize for making the riddle hard, but he couldn't be sorry for something he did so intentionally. If he wanted it to be easy he would have just up and said the name instead of encrypting it.
"Do you have plans after this evening?" he asked, keeping his tone light.

With a look of amusement playing in her eyes Kat placed herself on Odel's lap. She had seen him motion to the spot next to him, but stone was only so comfortable and until he asked her to move she was content to stay put. While analyzing Odel's face for an sign of discomfort Kat twirled a strand of his hair and thought for a moment about his question. Come to think of it, she did have a prior assignment to take care, and although an obligation that needed to be completed. She was fairly certain she could weasel for a little more time after all her boss did owe her a favor. "Nothing of pressing need, why? Is one evening not enough for you?" she finally replied teasingly.
