Who else is super excited about this?

I remember starting to play Diablo II when I was about 9 or 10 and my stepbrother showed me everything. Hell Bovines are still the best things.

I'm pretty excited.

Been doing the beta a lot this weekend (since it was open beta, my boyfriend could play with me), and I've fallen in love with all 3 of the classes I tried so far--monk, demon hunter, and barbarian. I hope to try the others as well. It's such a nice looking game and it's great to have a simple hack and slash game once in a while. Especially since I'll be able to play cooperatively with friends online. I think I'll really love playing it when it comes out.

I'm ridiculously excited! I played through the open beta with the Witch Doctor, Wizard and Demon Hunter and actually loved all the classes - but am going to play through as the Wizard when I start playing it through. I love how it has successfully built on Diablo II (I have a lot of fond memories playing with my brother and best friend!) - it maintains the atmosphere and feel of the game whilst adding a lot of interesting new elements (I love the idea of the skill runes, for example). I just need someone to play with me, haha! My best friend is joining the army and my brother is unreliable. If anyone else here is playing on the EU servers, I'd be happy to befriend and have some friendly faces (I trust the community here much more than the in-game one, heh!).

@Thomas @Minty-Fivestar
I'm excited about it because of the classes and the new graphics. I didn't do beta because I don't think my laptop would handle it, but I'm hoping once it's out I can at least try, you know? I basically keep caught up on the new announcements and stuff through tumblr or through my brother telling me all about it. His girlfriend isn't happy at all about it coming out It's funny because their finals end the day before it releases, so thats pretty lucky for him. I'm most excited about Witch Doctor. I love reading up on the classes and stuff too, so I'll probably try everything.

@Cavity
Heh, I have exams up until the 22nd so am slightly annoyed, haha. After that I have a group project to do but... I think my group might have to take second priority. XD The classes are really fun to play! The skills are pretty balanced so they all seemed kind of useful to me (other than the zombie dogs - they were somewhat useless) and the customisation with the runes is a really interesting idea. It definitely made some of the skills a whole lot more useful - the Entangling Short with the Demon Hunter was okay at first, but when you get the rune to increase its range from two to four targets you noticed a big difference in your ability to handle mobs imo. I really love reading up on classes too! I love looking through all the skills. The only one I'm not that interested to play is the Barbarian - because I've never really been one for melee combat. But I'm sure I can give it a whirl.

I'm trying to get the bf to play with me and I think he's coming around slowly. XD He has exams through June, though, and doesn't get a lot of time off over the summer as he's a fifth year medic. :c We watched some trailers together but they definitely don't do the game justice - it was so much more immersive to actually play imo. He said it looked pretty basic and easy but once the game scales to Inferno mode, hm, I'm sure he's going to have to eat his words hahah! I'm trying to get one of my friend's from uni to play with me as well but he's not a very hardcore gamer. :c He's on my course and we should be living together next year, so it would be super ideal!

I am SO excited about D3 it's ridiculous. I've been playing Diablo 2 pretty much since it came out (kinda telling my age a bit there haha). I've been in the closed beta for a while now. The witch doctor is going to be my main, followed by the wizard. The demon hunter isn't too bad, and neither is the the monk. I'm not too excited about the barbarian, but my husband made one and he loves it and will be making one on my account.

@Thomas
I have to disagree about the zombie dogs. They are a bit all over the place at times, but they are definitely not useless. They do quite a bit of damage, and once you get the poison rune for them, they are quite lethal.

@Leslie
Probably. They seemed more of a meat shield than offensive tanks to me - and I can imagine the way they aggro'd enemies being annoying in later difficulties. I didn't play up to them getting the rune, so I can imagine them better. I guess my play style is a bit more cautious.

Haha one of the guys I play with actually complained nonstop about my poor little puppies aggro tendencies, so I can see your point. That's what I meant in my comment by "a bit all over the place" (and admittedly they are) ... but I use them more for the damage they do so they serve their purpose for me.

@Cavity

I don't get why people are excited about Diablo III, it's such a turnaround from the original. The first Diablo game was one of the first games I ever played, I bought it when it was released in 1996 (I was 6). I didn't play Diablo II until much later (early 2008), and I was absolutely in love with it. I've played that game to death and I'm intimately familiar with Diablo lore.

While I welcome an "update" on the graphics and some new story and gameplay, I dislike what they've done with the atmosphere. Diablo I and II were oftentimes immensely dark and gritty. From the (numerous) screenshots I've glanced over, Diablo III's visuals look like they're going to fall flat. They don't have much character and I hate how they look cartoony and WoW-like (my hatred of WoW is not to be understated). Also, some of the screens I've seen have weird hue filters and other garish, cheap, tacky atmospheric effects. It's just... meh.

TL;DR: They're trying to make it like WoW (graphically and interface-wise, and maybe even gameplay-wise) to attract the WoW crowd. Blizzard doesn't seem to give a damn about trying to keep and build on the intrinsic elements that made Diablo unique in the first place.

I know this is a few days late so forgive me...I just saw your reply to the thread. Let me start by admitting before I go any farther that yes, I play WoW, and I have for years. The only reason I even picked up the game was because Blizzard already had me hooked with Diablo II though. I've played D2 intermittently since release and still thoroughly enjoy a good MF run now and again when my friends are up for it.

From what you're saying, you've only seen screenshots, so I'm assuming you weren't able to participate in the beta. I was in the beta for several weeks. Yes, the graphics engine is very similar to the one used in WoW, but the spell effects were, in my opinion, pretty amazing. When taking a screenshot into consideration, you have no idea the settings the game was on when the capture took place, or even the specs of the computer. I can assure you, I saw no issues with the graphics.

Out of the twenty or so people I know personally who have played D2 and were invited to join the beta for D3, only one person didn't enjoy it. That person said it was just too different from the others in the series and never logged in again after the first day. It's certainly not for everyone, but it is worth a try if you are a fan of the games. At the very least, I'm sure people will be streaming it live on justin tv after launch. Maybe watch some streams to get a feel for the gameplay. It wouldn't hurt!

@Leslie Come to think of it, looking up a stream sounds like a great idea. I've only glanced over screenshots and text-based reviews, and I was just totally thrown off by how WoWish the graphics and interface looked. Of course, I can't garner the actual gameplay by that, so I should look into a stream. I've been debating endlessly about whether or not I should purchase it when it's fully released and I don't want to spend my money on something I can't get my heart into, so thanks for that idea. Not sure why it never crossed my mind.

Of course! I'm sure there will be tons of streams showcasing all the classes at various stages of progress. Hopefully you'll get a more clear idea of how everything is set up. One Diablo fan to another, I do hope you enjoy it as well.

I'm so excited, I dressed my HA up as a Demon Hunter. I may have also bought a Diablo 3 mouse and iPhone cover...*cough*

@Lyude

Having actually played the open-beta, it looks nothing like WoW. Of course, I never thought it did, and the complaining about it was absurd. OMG there are colors! Like, who knew? It's almost like they exist in the real world, too, or something. But the idea that Diablo 3 is somehow rainbows and My Little Ponies is ridiculous. During what I played of it, I spent a lot of time wondering who turned the lights out--we saw literally no sunlight at all the entire time. In fact, numerous parts of D2 were far brighter than what I've played of D3. The colors are more vibrant, but this doesn't somehow make them less gritty. And everything is a bit closer, a bit larger than in the first two, but calling it cartoony makes no sense. Considering how far away from everything the player is in the first two, it's hard to tell whether the graphics are cartoony or not. You can just see things so much better now.

The gameplay mechanics actually haven't changed that much (in fact, the complaint I've heard is that it's too much like D2, as if this is somehow a bad thing). The only complaint I really had at all while playing is that areas felt more linear, but when I reflected on it, I realized it was because they didn't use the same area padding as they did in D2.

@lady_dreamwyn Makes sense. I'm pretty content to hear that the gameplay is still similar.

Still not absolutely sold on the visuals, but you make it sound like it's fine. I would need to play it myself or find some streams that go through a handful of areas before my feelings are set in stone.

Having too played Diablo 1 as a kid, I do admit the style is more geared towards epicness than horror. I still can't wait to get my hands on Diablo 3, Torchlight 2(which I happily got the chance to play the beta), and Grim Dawn. They all look like they are going to fantastic games. Although I'll eagerly play TL2's mods after D3.

I do wish that they brought back the necromancer instead of the barbarian. The witch doctor looks ridiculous, from what I've seen he randomly pukes out toads from out of nowhere. Plus I never was a fan having a hero running around without footwear.

Then there's the pricetag.... and knowing blizzard there will be a million expansions to drain my wallet.

Anyways, I'm not sure if I want to either play on East or West when the time comes... Is anyone here interesting in hooking up in order to play hardcore ?

A million expansions? I wish! They only ever did one for D2. It would be awesome if they did more than one for D3, but I won't get my hopes up.

Thank you~!

Servers were overloaded from the get go (I did stay up late last night, but more just to keep up with everything; I didn't expect to actually play last night), but I expected as much the very first day. It's not like the game is going anywhere if I don't get in the second it goes live. xD

They're doing some maintenance right now, last I heard. I'm not going to start playing until later tonight, most likely; my boyfriend and I will probably play together or at least chat while we're leveling characters. Hopefully everything smooths out by then!

Quote:
Here is the current situation for players from the ASIA region:

-Everybody with the digital version is getting "Error 12- No license attached".
-In Korea, GMs have a thread going to manually flag digital accounts to allow them to play. Currently, there is no other way for Digital Edition players to play and they have to wait for the GMs to flag the account one by one.
-In Taiwan, there are no GMs around to flag accounts.

Hope this doesn't affect the EU and NA accounts when the time comes. We're over 7 hour into the ASIA launch, and most people can't get in.

You can always check here for server status:
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/status

UPDATE: Asia server shutting down in 10 minutes (~2:20PM PDT)

UPDATE 2: Asia server is now down.

UPDATE 3: Servers are back up. But Error 12 has not been fixed.

UPDATE 4: Servers are down once more.

UPDATE 5: Servers are back up. Error 12 has still not been fixed.

UPDATE 6: EU has launched and many are experiencing "Error 37" which basically means the login servers are over capacity, which is expected. There are a few receiving "Error 75 temp outage of BNET" as well.

UPDATE 7: EU is now completely offline

UPDATE 8: EU has been up for several minutes now. Lots of people getting in. Some are still getting Error 37, but keep trying.

The cinematic at the end of Act I...i shed a tear. I truly did. For any Diablo series fan, it is a MUST SEE. Just....omg. I hope everyone else is enjoying themselves as much as I am!

Hah I am super happy to have exams at the moment, weirdly enough! Otherwise I'd be tearing my hair out with all the server issues. I've been following all the updates and everything and am generally just ridiculously excited! Heh similarly it's the thing that's keeping me going through my exams. I really can't wait to play; my friend is trying to make me go out after exams are over but tbh I just want to curl in bed (I will be physically and mentally exhausted) and slash through some monsters. XD My copy is coming in the post atm and I'm happy it's not here yet - it's going to take all my willpower to not start playing!

@Lyude
If you still aren't sold, they're going to be releasing a 'starter edition' in a month which is just like the Beta - you can play up to level 13 and fight the Skeleton King. I didn't really have any reservations despite being a big DII fan; but I definitely had expectations. Playing through the beta felt like stepping through familiar territory in the best way. They really captured what was great about DII in my (beta-only) opinion. I'd definitely try it!

Is anyone else playing on the European servers?

I managed to play on Tuesday for a bit with my friend, and got to the Skeleton King... but then it kicked us out and I haven't really been able to get back on since. I did enjoy what I've played so far, though. Normal mode is super easy so I think I'm going to start over on Nightmare (now that I've reached level 10) and see if it's a bit more of a challenge.

If anyone wants to add me as a friend, my battle tag is lambda#1402.

I played for about 10 hours yesterday and am loving it! I'm in act three at the moment, I just beat the first boss. I find the skill system really refreshing - I like having the options to play around with all the skills and runes and see which fit my play style as opposed to being locked into a build. I'm using Electrocute, Arcane Orb, Frost Nova, Wave of Force, Diamond Skin and just unlocked Blizzard with my latest level, so am testing that out. I also really liked using Slow Time.

Sadly, I played again for an hour this morning before getting ready to go out and the lag was pretty bad. I didn't have any issues yesterday, thankfully. I would usually be lagging for up to 5 seconds - and when you're running into a pack of champions, it doesn't always end well! I made a Demon Hunter this morning and got her up to level 8, but the lag was unbearable in parts. Lag aside, though, I am really enjoying it!

People have also died by walking outside, eating and sightseeing The guy didn't die from playing a game, he died because he was stupid enough to eat unhealthy food even though he had serious heart problems.

Anyway, I love D3, got it on the release date and I have yet to regret it I got a few friends who are a bit disappointed but meh. I think its awesome. Lotsa fun. The story does feel a bit rushed, which I didn't expect from Blizzards lore team, but oh well. I've no real complaints yet.

Barbarian? SO MUCH FUN. I break things. All the things. Literally. If there are breakable objects on my screen, they will be broken. I'm actually levelling up noticeably faster than my boyfriend even though we only play together... because I break things and get experience for the combos xD
