..so please, refrain from trying to feed them your iced tea.

...

A while ago back the old keyboard for the computer stopped working, so, I bought myself a new one. A used, somewhat grungy keyboard I picked up at Goodwill, but nice nonetheless. I liked it.

We have one family computer in our house, and I hooked up my nice (but not so shiny or new) keyboard and it has gotten quite a bit of use since.

Not so much any more.

Mom was on the computer, checking Facebook before going to bed, and her boyfriend leans over to see what she was doing, bumped into a glass of iced tea and into the keyboard and ALL over the computer desk it went.

It will be fine, he says.

As I was chatting with a friend, the keyboard started acting strange. When I tried to type the message, "I have no idea why the keyboard is derping like this" (as I wasn't in the room when the spillage happened), it came out as "i -have no idea w-hy t-he k1eys are derpin`g l2k1e t-his." and the "backspace" key had mistaken itself for the "enter" key.

Thankfully, we have a spare keyboard laying around.
And the entire computer desk has been very thoroughly cleaned as I had a "clean ALL the things!!" moment while wiping the sticky tea off the desk.

TL;DR: iced tea + keyboard = keyboard doesn't work.

Anyone else have electronic malfunctions lately?

Poured a whole glass of mountain dew onto my netbook.

No rice in the house. Had to set it up like a teepee and then I opened it up to make sure the internals were dry and put it back together. Tried turning it on, shut off one second later and refused to turn back on.

Opened it back up a few times before it decided to turn back on (no clue what made it not but it fixed itself) and then I broke the keyboard and had to pop it out and reattach the cable.

Mountain dew + laptop = bad

@OMJashin

Not recently, but I used to have a very thirsty keyboard that attracted liquid like nobody's business. I think I spilled four cups of various drinks over it in about a year? It happened so often that it didn't even faze me, I'd just swear a bit, mop up the liquid with some kitchen roll, turn the keyboard over and bang the back of it to help the liquid come back out. It still works as far as I know, the computer it was attached to gave out before that keyboard.

I have a laptop these days, so it would probably be a lot more final if I spilled anything over it!

Not lately, but I've spilled two or three glasses of water on my keyboard before. Still works great though!

~i!i!i Luckily I haven't had an spillage on my laptop. But, I did have issues with it towards the end of last year where it would randomly turn off and then it just never turned back on. They fixed it, but since then my internal speakers don't work.
I don't have the time now to call up and get them fixed, it would be free under warranty, but when I get my exams done I should still be able to get them fixed.

Does accidentally spraying your keyboard with tea count? I remember I did it a few times when I was caught unawares or shocked, but even then, it works pretty alright - save for once in a while I can't press a few keys. Might get it double checked soon, but for now, I"m keeping it the way it is.

It never happened to my personal notebook. But I spilled coffee on a keyboard at work... sadly.. twice XD (my coffee and me are a great weapon).

I'm so unbelievably paranoid about this that I won't leave a drink sitting around my computer.

@Mechanic
Apparently tea is a different story than water, then, because this thing is done for. It went out with the trash this morning

@Danie
I think I'm going to be that way from now on; I don't have another spare keyboard lying around, and I think I would just up and die if anything happened to my tablet.

@OMJashin
I'm pretty sure my laptop's keyboard has a tray under the keyboard in case a liquid spills on it (.. At least that's what I think the box said), but noooope. WAY TOO PARANOID about losing my baby. :c

When I eventually get my own computer I'll be so paranoid about it too. It's nice that yours has a tray thingie though, just in case.

Oh no. I'm glad I stopped drinking juice last year, otherwise mine would've probably died ages ago too.

@Mechanic

I think it's probably the stickiness that killed it. I'm just glad i had a spare lying around to replace it!

There's no. Nothing left for me. When all beauty's destroyed.

@OMJashin
I had the same issue a month ago.
I had a bowl of cereal on my lap and the laptop on the milk crate in front of me.
I don't how the love it happened but the bowl of cereal flew out of my hands and on to my laptop. I flipped it upside down that way the milk didn't go too far in and I unplugged it. The battery died and when I went to turn it back on the "windows didn't shut down properly" screen popped up. All I needed was the enter key to get past it, the enter key didn't work, along with most of the right side, for like 2 days. I took the keyboard apart, every single key got taken off and cleaned. That got the enter working along with all the other keys except "o" "p" and backspace. I never noticed how much I used oh and p. Luckily I have a digital keyboard that came with my tablet so I used that until I ordered a new keyboard.
LAPTOPS DO NOT LIKE CEREAL :B

There's no. Nothing left to see. Once all beauty's destroyed.

I actually haven't spilled anything on my keyboard in a long while...

But at least the most it has suffered in the past is water and an accidental little spill of pop.

I think I would die if something like that happened to my keyboard. I don't have the money to replace anything at all at the moment. Stupid bills. I guess I should go buy a bag of rice just in case...I can always eat it too if I have to. I have spilled tea on my computer desk before though...usually it's the cats' fault though. XD I'll be foruming away on here or questing or whatever and all of a sudden BAMCATONDESK. Cue me scrambling to keep them from knocking my tea over. My one cat isn't a problem - I've had her for about 6 years and she knows to jump up on the one side and lay down right away, but my 8 month old kitten hasn't learned that yet - and she's a nutter, lol.

A couple years ago I knocked a glass of orange soda onto my keyboard. It didn't function strangely, it just stopped functioning.
Now whenever I'm using the computer with a drink I keep the drink within arms reach but out of keyboard spill range.
