I know people are calling this pandering, but what does it matter if it is? I think it's important that kids and young adults and everyone who looks up to these heroes know that gay people can be heroes too Last Edit by:

I'll state it point blank, I haven't liked most of the DC reboot in general as I generally don't like companies messing with canon. That said, even if Alan Scott is a pretty unknown Green Lantern, as most still associate Hal Jordan with Green Lantern, I kind of wish they'd stop re-writing the story constantly. I don't like this change, though not because I'm anti-homosexual as I've always been pretty pro-homosexual rights and all that, I just don't like character traits suddenly being changed to suit the popular opinion. It's cool to see there being a few GLBTQA+ characters floating around in stuff like this, because it gives a good impression to younger folks and, as said before, everyone who looks up to the heroes. Of course, sometimes it feels like it's just a "token" thing.. I suppose I'm just being skeptical as ever, though.

@Yusuf i remember reading somewhere that a group called one million moms or something is trying to get DC and Marvel to remove gay characters from their franchises

@Ulfric I know which article you're talking about, it passed by my Tumblr dash a few days ago. There was a polite petition started to get the One Million Moms to stop it and explain homosexuality to their children and make something like the Punisher less accessible to children.

@Ulfric I think it's a very good idea. c: Given it's more difficult, I think, to explain to a child why someone got their head graphically blown off than explain why two men or women love each other.

 This just seems like giving the gay community 'our' castoffs. Take a previously straight character and make him gay? Why? There's a billion Green Lanterns...why not tell us about a new one that just happens to be gay? That, imo, would be awesome. That's what I was thinking it was when I read the headline too. I was like "OOOH. *grabby hands*". But no. lovein DC.

 Although I did enjoy laughing at the people who raged because they assumed it meant Hal Jordan was gay. Because the movie came out recently DC managed to score a ton of publicity for no reason whatsoever based on the confusion. Just as planned, right DC? Last Edit by:
