So, I used to play this ages ago. I had pets I really loved, they grew into OC's outside of Subeta. But, I recently looked back, and they were gone, as well as my account. I never got any emails saying I was going to get purged or whatever you want to call that, and I find that very sad.

@Antnerd

There are typically account clearings - during which accounts inactive for over a year are completely deleted to make space on the servers. They haven't been emailing people for it. I do believe that system is changing (someone just necro'd a topic about it, actually) but as it is there is no way to get anything back.

I didn't have much on it, but I had some items that were very dear to me. Oh well.

I don't expect it being given back, I just wished they had warned me so I could log in again. had about 30mil worth of pets/items which were dear to me..

So this is just feedback I hope they'll read so they can change their future ways.

Maybe that's just me but if I have an account somewhere that I regard as being important (e.g. if I have items/pets there that are dear to me) I log in at least every now and then and don't forget about it for one year+

While warning is nice and appreciated, I do agree with what edge said. Don't leave your account to rot. You know, some websites send you notice after they delete your account too...

i feel like if someone cared enough about their pets/items/sp/whatever.. they would find a way to log in once out of 12 months.

@Artnerd
The only fault here is yours. The staff don't need to "change their ways" and make people wait even longer for account / pet names they want that another user will never do anything with.
You're the one who left your "dear pets / items" to rot on the site for a year. Obviously, they could not be that dear to you if you wouldn't log in for at least a day or two.

Honestly, I don't think a warning is really needed. You have a whole year before your accounts is cleared. If you care for your account so much and don't want it to be deleted, you can easily spare 2 minutes a year to log in.
I have the feeling that if they sent a warning through mail, people would log in at that moment and never come back again, until they receive another warning the following year.

Anyway, they're changing the way clearing works now. Your account won't be deleted in the future no matter how much time you spend without logging in. But if you haven't logged in in a year, other people will be available to change their user/pet names to yours. You won't loose them though, they'll be changed as well. At least that's what I heard of the upcoming change

I don't think Subeta should be held accountable for it and I find a year of inactivity before the account is finally purged more than enough time to log in at least once.

I think it sucks that you lost your pets and account and everything but.. I mean it's been a year+, were you really using that stuff? I don't really see a point in subeta holding onto peoples' things forever for the sake of them not losing their stuff even if they never log on. It's just wasted space and names that can't be used for anything.

i must agree with @edge and the others above, if you found the account important then you could've logged on every once in a while....just sayin'

Your pets were super important and you really liked them... yet you didn't log in for a year?

Couldn't have been that important/well liked then. :/

I did have the same thing happen to me, so I'm not just wagging my tongue here. I know how you feel. I had a ton of stuff in my wardrobe, and my pets were based off of my OCs.

Sorry you lost your account but have to I agree with the others.If you really care for your account so much then you should log into it every few months instead of just leaving it there for a long time like you've lost interest in it.The staff are just doing their job,subeta can't keep every abandon account on site because the user may come back but haven't shown any interest in doing so.

Not to be rude, but if those pets/items/whatever were so "dear" to you, I doubt you'd leave your account to rot for over a year. If the accounts weren't cleared, Subeta would be just like Neo where there are no good usernames or pet names because they'd all be in unused accounts.

Because the world isn't as bad as you think.

The same thing happend to me. I was still a newbie but I remember having an epic username with awesome pet names too... I think account clearing is fine and reasonable considering the amount of information one user holds on the site. But I agree that I would have LOOOOVED a warning and would have come by to give the site a 2nd look. I was like 12, exploring different sites, but I would have stayed here over any of those sites and that's the killer part.

Hey, guys!

Just a quick reminder to keep things on topic here. You don't have to agree with the OP, but please be sure you are discussing the topic, not attacking the user.

Thanks, everyone!

Keith Mentioned at the meetup that the way things happen with inactive names/accounts is going to change. Instead of your account being deleted you'll get a bunch of numbers after your name, plus an email informing you of the change. That way people can't come, get a bunch of great pet names and vanish for X amount of time leaving the pets stranded. Before someone goes, "Oh, well that is rude!" Subeta will be giving you a free ISS to change your Name/petname since you will be say, Fluffy543543. And no one wants to be that. No.

This is what was said at the meetup, it wasn't said when or how long we'll have to wait... but its been mentioned and thus passing it on.

Pretty much. And even then I still consider that to be letting things rot

If people are made aware when they sign up that after a certain amount of time of inactivity their account will be cleared, I don't think an email is required. If it's really important to you, you'll remember to log on. If it's not... then there are other people who may make better use of those names. I can see a lot of people getting an email like that, logging in for a moment to check things out again, and then disappearing for the next year. I know I've done it whenever I get emails from old sites to remind me of their existence, and my account wasn't even in danger of being cleared. That would kinda suck if applied to Subeta, where people are able to ISS their accounts or pets.

We have plans to make sure this doesn't happen going forward. I'm sorry your account was removed from the site, but it was over a year since your last visit. I don't think it's harsh of us to assume you aren't coming back.

However, going forward, we won't be deleting accounts anymore.
