Name Clearing

It's the moment you've all been waiting for! We're ready to debut the new clearing system... on June 23rd.

The new system is really simple, and will make for a much nicer process going forward.

Every day at 3PM (Subeta time) all accounts from the previous day that are ready to clear will be cleared. That means after the 23rd there will be no more manual clearings, it will all be automatic.

Also, the names themselves will not clear. The accounts will be marked as inactive (which you will be able to see on their profile) and when you take their name, it will just rename their account (or pets). That means that if the user does decide to come back to Subeta, their account is still there, just with a name change.

I know this is a confusing change, but the tldr; version is:

1. All accounts that have been inactive or frozen for one year will become inactive on June 23rd. After that, every day at 3pm any account that should be inactive will be made inactive.
2. Any account tagged as inactive is "up for grabs", you can take that username, or their pet names.
3. When an inactive account has it's username taken, it gets changed to something else and the user is sent a notification, and also gets a free username change.
4. The uses who have had their usernames/pet names taken cannot ask for their old names back.

Sounds good to me! Will they be renamed random names or just revert to their ID number or something else? I'm just curious for the sake of knowledge :0)

This is amazing, I really hope it works out and nothing goes wrong with it.

But fingers crossed, because this in my opinion is a much better system!

That's not bad at all then, if all else fails people could keep the changed names (assuming they can?) if they can tolerate the _NUMBERS. Not as awesome as the un-numbered/underscored names but hey if they cared that much they should have stuck around/popped in once a year to hold em.

@ ; I think I'm reading this wrong. I'm first reading this as, 'all accounts will be cleared automatically' (given they've been inactive for so long), and then I read 'but the account will be given a different name.'

So, if a person NEVER comes back to Subeta, whether someone takes their username or not, will the account actually get purged from the database at some point?

what if the user forgot their email or doesn't use that email anymore? I remember you mentioning the "logging in first time with old username" thing, which sounded a bit odd to me (if you can even remember that password, and if that matches at all? sort of thing?)

So this means that we'll have to daily check to see when a pet name will become available? I see it shows up still as "This account will be eligible for clearing in 2 months." So that means every day we need to check if it's due to clear for the next day? Sorry, just a bit confused on how that part is working out.

@ANGST If they don't have any of that information, it means you probably aren't going to get your account back in any circumstances.

@ Yes, the day before it'll say something like "Tomorrow this account will be made inactive!" so the following day at 3PM it'll be made inactive, and the profile will say something like "This account is inactive, you can get the username here" and link you to the username rename page.

Hmm...this sounds interesting. It seems like it might clutter up the system more than the previous (still having the names/pets there just inactive) but I could be totally wrong since, well, I know nothing about these things.
But if it works it sounds pretty cool indeed, especially if the person was lucky enough to not have their name/pets taken if they did decide to come back. I'll be interested to see!

@ We've made considerable upgrades to our database backend and pretty much the entire structure of the site in the past year, so we're able to have those accounts sitting there now, unlike in the past

Seems like a good idea to check and see what email address is linked with your account on here and make sure it still works/you can access it then , just in case.

Daily inactive clearings sound like a great idea! I just have a question though, I've been ~~stalking~~ watching a frozen UN for almost 9 months now, a couple of days ago it was eligible for clearing, and when I saw the announcement today I popped in to check on it (again), and now it says that there's a month until it is eligible for clearing.

What happened? Were some of the times extended under the new system?

I didn't understand one thing, the frozen accounts will be inactive and then the user can just enter the old account and reactivate it?
If yes, what do I do now that I have this account? May I enter the old one to delete it?
Sorry if my question is silly =/

I'm going to guess that if any or some of this information wasn't available or was incomplete, a user might still be able to recover their inactive account filing a ticket? and like, confirming old account information, etc...

Well, I really like this change, but something is irking me. What about user accounts who got frozen and won't be unfrozen because of rule breaking? Will they always remain in the system and the user can not create a new account? Or will they be able to play again with the same account after 1 year of freezing time is over? Sorry for pinging you about this but I am really confused. It says you may not create a new account before 1 year is over and your old account is deleted (which happens after around 10 months, so it should be deleted when the year is over), but if the old one is still there, wouldn't that be two accounts then?
