Hey guys! I'm planning on cosplaying Dead Master. She has these really strange, skeletal wings: here.
Does anyone here know how I'd go about making them/the harness?

I'm going to guess that you're talking about an irl thing? Anyway, this is a pretty sweet outfit. Judging from the placement of the wings themselves it doesn't seem like a typical harness (the kind that goes around your arm/shoulder) would go seamlessly into the outfit. I would suggest making the harness out of some kind of clear plastic and have it go around your midsection/lowerback--like the kind you'd have for a bra strap. If not a black bra / corset thing would be just as passable.

Wood will be too heavy too hold up, of course, and corrugated cardboard is a nightmare. There's a wide variety of stuff you could use, depending on what's available to you: two pieces of chipboard or more ( glued together ), foam core, poster board, or craft foam...depending on which material you choose you might actually be able to run wire through it instead and you can look up tutorials that show you how to work with them.

If you want a really deep black--deep colors in general, really--I would recommend you prime the surface of your props with ...well, white primer! Gesso ( crushed chalk) works well, and of course you can find various spray types at your typical hardware store.

I hope some of this helps you! C:

@roar, @monkeys_r_cool

Thanks for your help, guys! I actually was talking about IRL, but I really like those wings for my avatar.

That really helps a lot! Thank you! (Not related, but I LOVE your layout. Sherlock! <3)

You're welcome and thank you! Sherlock is great. : )

And actually I just remembered--there is one type of wood you might be able to use. I can't give a personal recommendation myself since I've only ever seen my friend use it, but you could also probably use balsa wood. I'm sure they sell it in varying widths but a 1/16th inch piece will feel something like soft, woody foam. It's weird yet cool. They use it in model airplanes and stuff so it's also very light!

There is this bandage stuff you could use to make a harness out of. It's very stretchy and if sewn together like a typical harness, it might work. You should be able to get something like that at walmart or any kind of pharmacy.
For the wings, there's this type of foam you could use... It's a very pliable, lightweight foam that would be good for that, unfortunately I don't know what it's called.

There's thin foam board that is sturdy and can be found in all different colours and shades usually at craft or hardware stores. When I was in the fifth grade my mother made big spider legs out of it for a costume. Should work solidly for the wings too!
