Up until now I haven't had any issues with anyone in my apartment complex. Before I would sometimes hear people walking in the apartment above me, but it wasn't bothersome. I have no idea why there are suddenly children running around, but now it sounds like a herd of small elephants stampeding around all day

I'm sure I'll get used to it, and I understand that kids are energetic and aren't trying to bother me, but for now it's been irritating the hell out of me.

Anyone else have annoying neighbor stories?

Why don't you just submit a noise complaint? I would.

How long you had to deal with these neighbors?
Who knows? It may be temporary?

As for annoying neighbors, in my suburbs neighbor, none of us have a fence because it's against the rules of my subdivision and so my neighbor's dog occasionally leaves a present for us. :/ Also, ever since June started, neighbors from a few subdivisions away are shooting off fireworks every night. It's not fourth of July you guys. x-X

@Fierce
It's only been a few days since this started, I figure the kids just got out of school or something. If it continues to be irritating I may go talk to them about it, but for now I'm just going to deal with it.

@NightStar_08
Just a few days. It would be nice if it was just kids visiting for a week or something xP They seem to have quieted down a bit for now at least.

Does everyone keep their dogs indoors or do they just roam the neighborhood? o_o No fences sounds like an odd rule to have.
Ugh, I can imagine fireworks being super annoying. I am looking forward to 4th of July, but would not want to hear that every night.

@Rorschach That's a good questions. I have no idea...Oh wait! I remember, a lot of people use invisible fences that shocks the dog if they go beyond the wanted area. :c Hahaha, I actually saw my neighbor's dog ran across the neighborhood one night, so I guess some dogs get lost. I do often see lost dogs signs. :/

And yes, the fireworks are annoying. It's illegal to shoot them off in the suburbs here. xD

Oh, if the kids are being noisy, you can tried to shut them up the old fashion way...use the end of a broom and knock on the ceiling. :3

My neighbours here at my apartment are always screaming at each other. Always. All day, every day. The cops have been here four times already (we moved in the same day that they did). These are neighbours across the hall - the ones on the other side of our living room wall... well... I don't know what they're doing but it sounds like they're taking turns running at the walls. I'm not kidding - every now and then you'll hear a loud 'thump' against the wall. Or the door. They also slam their doors constantly.

At my mum's place, there's a neighbour who seems to think she owns the block or something. She parks wherever she feels like on the street (including at the end of other people's driveways) even though her garage and driveway are always empty (she only has one vehicle). She also screams at her son, her dogs, her father, her phone, the weather, her car... You name it, she yells at it. She also spent an afternoon tearing a tree out of the ground because it 'was in her way'. This is a baby tree (no more than like 8 feet tall) at the very end of her driveway, about a meter to the left. She drives a tiny car. How is it in her way?
Anyways, because they share some greenspace (my mother and this woman), and the tree she tore up was IN that space - guess who has to pay to get it replaced?

Yep. My mum.
Crazy woman next door is crazy.

Edit:
I guess I should add that my mum's neighbourhood is aesthetically-controlled. Everything outside of your home must look uniform and tidy.

Ah okay. I've always thought invisible fences were kind of weird, I was walking through a neighborhood once and there was this big dog in the front yard, unleashed just standing there staring at me. I love dogs, but it was a bit scary. I think there was an invisible fence up though since it just stood there in the yard.
That will be something to consider if it continues to be a problem

@DAHMER
Those neighbors sound terrible I'm rather thankful to just have children running around now haha.
There should be apartment buildings/neighborhoods for all the bad neighbors to live in.

Hah! Yes, I agree! The weird thing is, though - the rest of my neighbours are perfect. Very quiet, very respectful. A lot of them are very chatty, and if you get caught in a hall with them you're going to be there a while. (:
I'm pretty sure that Screamy McScreamertons across the hall is getting an eviction notice soon. Everyone on our floor has complained, and probably those beneath them as well.
We also have a neighbour somewhere in this building who apparently can't read and parks in whatever stall he feels like. (His stall is 163, ours is 165. I've seen him park in our spot, 164, 162, and even all the way down at 179!)

Oh gosh. I've been both the downstairs neighbor and the upstairs neighbor, so I get it I'm always afraid to annoy the people below me, but it's so easy for noise to carry over in some buildings! In our campus apartments, you can even hear people opening their dressers and the like :S

For me... Would definitely have to be the girl we lived with last year. We have to live on campus at my school; my roommate and I spent the fall semester abroad and didn't have a say in our rooming assignment when we returned. The girl we were living with was a heinous, vile dog. She was confrontational, disrespectful of us and our property (because we had to go and move into "her" room), and had fights with her boyfriend whenever the mood struck her....often between 12-8 AM. Whenever we would try and settle things, she'd try and turn it around on us, like we were the doges just for wanting a decent night's sleep. We were pretty much confined to our room (the living room and bathroom both were her zone), with minimal space (i.e. 2.5 cabinets) in the kitchen. It was awful and has made me dislike living with people (with a few exceptions) even more than I did before.

I had a neighbor who's brother watched from his window when I left for school. He did it through sheer curtains and it was really creepy.

@DAHMER
Well that's good, hopefully they do get evicted soon and whoever moves in next is a good neighbor. I haven't spoken to any of my neighbors, I feel like everyone works a lot

@Jailbird
Yeah, apartment walls are super thin :< I know the people upstairs aren't trying to be annoying and they're not really doing anything wrong which is why I'm trying to just get used to it. It's weird how only some noises come through though, like people walking around or dressers opening and closing. I've never heard them talking or closing/opening doors or anything else.
That girl sounds awful. I'm so afraid that I'll get a terrible roommate when I go back to college if I decide to live in the dorms.

@Renga
gah, that's super creepy. Would he just stand in the window? I always feel kind of creepy when I look through the blinds, even though I'm usually just checking the weather lol

I'm hoping~~
Awwwe. ): Most people who live around here are from other countries, and in our city it's kind of... white power. |: So they all work part-time minimum-wage jobs. I see them a lot. They're so chatty though :'D

Oh, that sounds interesting People from other countries tend to be more friendly than Americans from what I've seen (assuming you're living in the US).

I'm in Canada, actually. (:
But so far I've found that it's very true; a lot of the people I've met are from the Philippines, the Middle East, China or Somalia. They're all very pleasant and nice people - I also prefer them as customer service/salespeople because they're always more willing to help you. I feel much better tipping them at restaurants as well, because my servers are always super-happy and very thoughtful!

@Rorschach

I do too! I feel really weird when my neighbors across the street are on their porch when I look out. I guess I could look out that back windows XD

Yeah, he'd just stand there behind the curtains. Sometimes he'd be on his porch when I'd be coming up to the house after school. He never said or did anything. He's probably just a people watcher, but I still felt kind of uncomfortable.

When we lived in our old apts, brats were CONSTANTLY running through the halls.

Now days it's drunks behind our trailer playing beanbag/fighting so loud I can hear it over the TV, or other drunks next door/across the row blaring music so loud I can hear it. Got to the point last week where I went out and yelled that if they didnt turn it down I'd be calling the law on them for it. I hate living here

@Rorschach ohhh totally. Things I do NOT miss about my first apartment: hearing people fight, hearing people pee (even if you weren't under their bathroom. Seriously. wtf), the college guys in the house next door who were constantly smoking so much pot you could smell it through closed windows and who BUILT AN ILLEGAL SKATE RAMP in the middle of the night in their tiny-ass yard and then when we reported them for it covered it with a blue tarp and tried to pretend it wasn't there, also the same guys who would constantly harass me if I walked down the street and they were out there, and the same people who had a dog that they would scream at constantly to shut up when she was barking even though she was a puppy and they ignored her in the yard all the damn time.

@Renga duuuude my friend's mom's apartment complex has a guy like that. He'll watch everyone (through lace curtains. Guy, we can see you.) and he'll leave his door cracked open too and sometimes he'll come out into the hallway when you get to the top of the stairs and just watch you, and sometimes he has his shirt off. CREEPER.

@viticus

Wooaaah, glad my case was never that bad and he kept his distance. But yiiiikes. My sister has a roommate that always comes out of his room right after she's done taking a shower. His room is right across from hers and it's really weird because he just kind of stands around the kitchen area/hallway until she comes out. Then, he tries making small talk with her. She has started to dress in the bathroom instead because it's like he's always trying to catch a glimpse. We both know now from other incidents with other girls that he's gross enough to stoop that low :S eeeuch. I don't know why she ever roomed with him.

I just remembered something about neighbors! One night I was watching an Inuyasha movie on Cartoon Network. My t.v. was next to my window and during a commercial I randomly looked out and saw my neighbors window was open and he was watching t.v. too. I didn't notice until halfway through the movie that he was watching the exact same movie as me. I thought I was seeing things so I turned off my t.v. to see if it was somehow the glare and nope, it was definitely my neighbor watching the same movie as me XD So random.
