Apparently I'm a lesbian because I don't want to see Magic Mike? -__-

So my mother has been really big on the bonding lately because she thinks I'm pulling away as I don't see the family much anymore or visit them or whatever so she kind of wants me and her to go see Magic Mike because apparently shirtless men help with bonding? idgi

Anyway I'm not really into it, I don't know any of the actors besides Matthew McConaimpossibletorememberhowtospellname and I'm just not keen on awkwardly sitting beside my mom while a bunch of guys shake their asses on the big screen. So I keep telling her I don't think the movie is going to be interesting to me or that I'm not sure I want to see it and she's like "You're not understanding me. Hot guys." UM OKAY I DON'T WANT TO WATCH HOT GUYS WITH YOU KTHNKS. IF THERE IS A SEX SCENE OR THINGS GET TO STEAMY IT WILL BE AWKWARD REMEMBER HOW IT WAS WHEN WE SAW 300?! No.

But all she heard is "I don't want to watch hot guys" and she was all "but I thought you liked men?" I got confused and asked her what she meant and she clarified with "It's not like you like girls is it? That's not the problem I hope." Um wut. She goes on to say "I can't fix that, can you work with me on the Magic Mike front? Shirtless hot guys, come on you have to be interested." Okay a) I like guys just fine. If I went with my friends to see another movie like the Avengers or something and Chris Hemsworth took off his shirt I'd probably be reduced to a puddle of attraction and giggles. b) Liking girls is not a "problem". If I preferred women that wouldn't make me "broken" or mean I needed to be "fixed" or whatever. c) gosh darn it you know I have a boyfriend, don't pretend that I'm not interested in men just because I said the best part of the movie would be McConawhosit's accent and I could get that from the trailer.

Then I asked her if we could see the Avengers and she was like "That's not an adult movie, that's a kids' movie. Don't you want to see something more grown up?" NO I DON'T. I LIKE SUPERHEROES.

Pretty sure she thinks I'm a lesbian now. Which would be fine but I'm the black sheep enough of my family for not drinking, not being Christian, not being either a Democrat or Republican, and not liking sweet tea. If they thought I wasn't 100% straight(which no one really is anyway but try telling someone who's religious that) they might try to baptize the "gay" out of me or something.

Ugh my mother is crazy.

lol, parents can be weird.
My dad likes the worst movies, he'll always rent these dumb rated are comedies and be like "lol come on watch this family movie!" and really it's just...awkward x_x
Maybe choose another movie to see with her, or find some other activity so she'll get off your back?

I know what you mean kind of. Like whenever people want me to go to a movie with them because "HOT PEOPLE OMG!!" I'm just like no, If I want to watch hot people I will watch porn.. by myself. But that being said Magic Mike actually looks like a fun movie and I will probably see it c:

LOL. I can only imagine how that conversation would go. "But mom it is two hot guys! Isn't that what you wanted?!"

@Rorschach

I tried to convince her to double feature Avengers with me and then watch Magic Mike after or something, but she's never interested in the movies I want to watch. I totally wouldn't be opposed to watching Magic Mike if there was also a movie I thought I enjoyed in there but she keeps shooting me down on the ones I'm suggesting. This always happens, we don't even have remotely the same tastes. *sigh* As far as other activities, there's not a lot much more we could do together because again, widely different tastes.

That's actually kinda crappy for your mother to say. Just because you don't wanna see it (hell, if I would go see it, I wouldn't. It looks boring, actually :/) doesn't make you a lesbian. And just because it's her idea of "hot men" doesn't mean it's your idea of "hot men"
The men in the Avengers. Their hot. (Just sayin.)

But people think I'm a lesbian. Last year, when I was at lunch, this kid I don't like was LOL SHE'S AFRAID OF PENIS and this kid that I wanna like...choke was like SAVANNAH! YOU NEVER TOLD ME YOU WERE A LESBIAN. I wanted to slap him and everybody laughed but he was being dead ass serious. But now people think I am a lesbian because I was afraid of penis, I haven't dated or had my first kiss, and me and my friend, A (let's call her A) were holding hands out of a joke. People go up to her and say Are you dating Savannah.
So yes, they legit think I'm a lesbian.

As for your mom, though, being gay isn't a problem soo. Yeah.

SMH at your mother's reasoning tbh. I personally do want to see Magic Mike because HELLOOOO Matt Bomer's everything and really nice bodies in general /shallow but it's probably the LAST film aside from Brüno that I'd want to watch with my family lol.

@Camellia

I might try that. Although I think she objects to Avengers because it's not "a grown up movie" to her. It's why I won't even tell he I want to see Brave, she doesn't think superheroes or cartoons can be things adults enjoy. She even called the Dark Knight a children's movie. :|

@Religion

I used to get teased in school a lot because they thought I was a lesbian and they were really mean about it, so it kind of hurts when people say I am even though there's nothing wrong with it. It's annoying. I don't see why sexuality should matter anyway nor why not wanting to see a movie about a male exotic dancer should imply I don't like men. Ugh

@PsychoDoughboy

It a movie about like Chippendale dancers. I haven't paid much attention to it beyond seeing the ads on tv.

@RedSekhmet

I agree. Just because I don't wanna see an unattractive male shake what's in his pants on a big screen, doesn't mean I'm a lesbian. It means the movie in uninteresting and pointless with no actual meaning.
I would pick Captain American, Thor, and Nick Fury over "Magic Mike" any day.
Plus Magic Mike is a stripper and does nothing but that. The Avengers kick ass SO.

Kind of like how my parents assume that just because I'm on the computer, I'm on Subeta. They think the four or five hours a day I'm online, I'm playing on here. It doesn't matter how much I tell them that only half of that is Subeta, maybe less, and the rest is going on different job sites. They don't even believe me when I tell them that I called such-and-such place and they told me to apply online, that's how they do it, I don't need to come in, because the person in the store/office/etc. would tell me the same damn thing the person on the phone did - apply online. It isn't helping of course that I'm not getting any callbacks. I'm overqualified or underqualified for pretty much everything. There's nothing available 'in the middle'. They just don't believe I'm looking for a job. What the hell am I supposed to do? It's not like I can force someone to hire me - take them by the collar and shake them and say hire me or else. I'm sorry...that totally turned into a rant.

@RedSekhmet

I've already watched the Avengers, and I would like to say that it's an awesome movie (I tend to like all superhero movies).
Anyways, I don't particularly wish to see Magic Mike nor do my friends. I would rather see the Avengers again and take a nice good look at Chris Hemsworth's body once more (and listen to his charming voice).
We will probably go and watch either Men in Black III, Prometheus, Ted, Brave, The Amazing Spiderman, or the Dark Knight Rises (what am I saying - I'm watching all those movies). XD
Your mother should understand that spending quality time together does not necessarily mean that you guys must watch movies together. Though I'm unsure of what else you guys could do together, for you guys obviously differ in tastes. Maybe you should have a reading day where both you and your mother sit in the same room and read whatever book you desire? Anyways, good luck.
And I agree with Gray, have your mom watch Brokeback Mountain. XD

@Perpetual

I want to see Brave so badly but I don't want to be the only adult without kids there in the theater XD. And her other activities to do together would be shopping which I'm really not interested in unless it's for books and she doesn't read that much, going to the lake which I don't want because I don't have a decent bathing suit or going to the zoo which frankly has gotten too expensive for me to afford. She's also wants me to go over and ride horses with her but all of those horses are green and I'm not experienced enough to handle them safely.

But I understand you.I get mistaken for a lesbian just because I don't actually really "act" like a girly girl and because I'm a nineteen year old child.

If you want to see the movie, you should definitely go.
Brave seems like a great movie, and I don't care one bit if I'm among kids with not another person my age around.
I feel that maybe you guys should just be in each others company at home (that could count as quality time together).
Anyways, good luck. Hopefully all goes well and you guys get to do something you both like.

My ex used to say that to me all the time. He refused to watch anything with a superhero in it.

We went to the cinema to see something with his sister once and we couldn't get it so we saw Kick Ass instead. I have never heard two people moan so much after it. I WATCH YOUR HORRORS NOW WATCH MY SUPERHERO FILMS.

He used to say things like 'Oh but it's not real.' ...WHAT?!? So all the films he's ever watch have been 'real'? I forget that aliens have taken over our planet several times and zombies roam the streets.

Since leaving him I've seen the Avengers twice (once on opening day).

@THOR

That's just sad. I love superhero movies and I don't see why people try to hide behind "it's not realistic" or "it doesn't really happen". Practically no movie is realistic even if you don't thrown in supernatural or sci-fi elements. A big part of going to the movies for me is seeing things that can't be done in real life. If I wanted realism I'd sit outside and watch people on the street. (I love your UN and HA btw. I squee'd when I saw it)

@Disney

Ugh I hate that. They should be happy you're not running after boys and getting pregnant like other girls.

I also think it's funny she called Avengers a kid movie which I really don't feel it is... I find a movie like Magic Mike more juvenile than Avengers just because it's... stupid. Though I don't really know what it's about, just seen the commercials of the shirtless guys dancing, telling me in 3 DAYS YOU WILL WISH YOU WERE SINGLE!!!

Don't worry about it... maybe make her go see Prometheus? That movie is awesome...

To her any superhero movie is a kids movie. This includes the Dark Knight which she saw but didn't pay attention to because she still thinks superhero movies are just for kids. Even if it was a movie marketed at kids that doesn't mean adults can't enjoy it too, that's what annoys me most about her attitude.

@AVENGER

I LOVE YOUR HA. But thank you, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks it doesn't make sense to go see Magic Mike with family and would prefer the Avengers.

@Pugsley

I would love to see Brave with her, I dragged her into the Princess and the Frog and we had fun there. Or I thought we did at least.

Rofl. My mom doesn't wanna see it because she knows there won't be that much male nudity. She was also disappointed because Matthew Mcconaughey (I cheated and googled, his name is hard to spell...I pity his children having to learn to spell that at the tender age of 5) he wasn't on the trailer long enough. And it looked like they were gonna be making fun of his age.

I wouldn't wanna see this with my mother either. Mostly because it's awkward, but partly because I'm afraid she'd want to talk about it afterwards lol.

@RedSekhmet Seriously? That kinda seems like an odd choice for a mother/daughter bonding movie if you ask me. Personally, I find the whole premise of Magic Mike to be a bit sleazy and uninteresting. Shirtless hot guys isn't necessarily enough for me to be interested in a movie as I'm really particular about watching movies that have some sort of plot and not just fluff. Besides, The Avengers has plenty of hot guys and a rather intriguing plot so for me that's a win-win.

K wait what
"not drinking" and "not being a Christian"? Aren't Christians (I am one, but that's not important right now) not supposed to drink anyway? xD

In any case, I think that's the weirdest conclusion your mom could draw from not wanting to see a movie. Even if I wasn't a lesbian, I wouldn't want to see that movie. Looks just like poorly written garbage to me. (No offense to anyone who likes it).

Also, dying at The Avengers being a kids movie. It really isn't. Every time there has been a kid in the theatre its ended up crying at scenes and just not getting any of the jokes and whatnot. It's a very indepth film. Plus it's all a bunch of attractive men and women fighting, what isn't to love? It's sexy without being blatent. AlsoI'veseenitfivetimes.

@kudzu

Yeah well apparently in my family not wanting to drink alcohol means I think I'm better than other people to them. Alcoholism runs down my father's side of the family so you'd think they'd discourage drinking but they don't. Instead any time I turn down a beer I have to listen to how I must think I'm so above people who do drink. I'll admit as a teenager I came off as a little judgmental about their drinking habits but seeing as how the police getting called out to handle drunk family members wasn't unusual I think I was justified in being disgusted with the behavior. And now I've just decided I don't want to risk alcoholism.
