You know, those wonderful behaviors or sayings that are sweeping the nation nowadays.

For example, I hate the duckface because it honestly makes you as hideous as you don't want to be, YOLO doesn't need an explanation and I get really peeved when I see kids in elementary school walking around with their faces stuck on smartphones.

What are some of your peeves?

THE FACE UNDER THE MASK...

I say yolo because I know how much it annoys people

I hate it when people use memes irl. Like when they draw a trollface on blackboards or walk around saying "trololo", thinking they're hardcore habitants of the internet because they read rage comics.

Also the whole "I ♥ nerds" trend. Not to mention special snowflake gamer girls!

I'd list the stupid fads that annoy me, but I'd end up writing a novel.

Fads come and go, and of course the internet just loves to beat a dead horse. As soon as I heard YOLO, I knew it was bound to be used as an excuse for dumb decisions. As for duck faces...I..just. NO. For me, I despise a lot of memes especially the "cake is a lie" and "over 9000" ones.

Also, every time I hear a Call Me Maybe joke, I just wanna throw my laptop off the window.

@Majora and @Danie

I do use memes every now and then in conversations (Only with my closest friends though), but I usually say themin a more tasteful fashion- "I feel like flipping a table" or "She jumps right in once her jimmies got rustled enough" are the ones I usually use, but the more stupid ones like the Trollface are really annoying.

THIS
Perhaps it is because I used to value the power of a meme back when they were INSIDE JOKES on the internet, rather than the next "cool" thing to be doing. It is websites like "icanhazcheezburger" and the new version of "Know Your Meme" that has destroyed a once enjoyable joke.

The arrow to the knee line from Skyrim joke. Are you loveing serious.

The YOLO thing. Every time I see that I want to cry.

For a while I hated the Chuck Norris jokes, but it was only because I didn't understand them. Then I saw Walker Texas Ranger and then I realized why they were so "relevant". haha

Oh, and the "what my friends think, what society thinks, what my teachers think" meme. That is still really popular with my friends and I'm tired of it.

My fiance is getting tired of the some e cards stuff. I think they're brilliant. For a while I had the "I'm sorry, did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours" as my wallpaper on my phone as well as my profile pic on facebook because so many people interrupt me and it ticks me off. <

Peace. Love. Avenged Sevenfold.

I agree with you there...and the sad thing is that I am also on Cheezburger this very moment looking up dating fails. I remember when "UMAD, BRO?" Used to be pretty funny when it was still fresh and new...now it's like those guys who walk around with their pants hanging off their ass trying to look "gangsta"

Fun fact: The pants hanging look originated in prisons for one inmate to let the rest know that they were "available." Most of the "gangstas" don't know that though...

@Octovan I rarely use the meme thing, but its nothing stupid like the arrow to the knee. I hate arrow to the knee haha. It's just, sometimes the faces work for the situation. But flipping tables is my favorite one.

One fad.. well I don't know if it would be considered a fad, but I really don't like the Harry Potter obsession. I know that is probably going to rustle a lot of jimmies, but idk. I just don't see why people like it so much, and why people feel the need to post 85943536 times about it on social networks like Facebook and Tumblr. I am probably a minority with that opinion, but idk. I have seen the movies and tried to read the books, but they couldn't really hold my interest. Also, I had to change one of my OCs name, just because it was Lucius, and everyone immediately assumed it was related to Harry Potter >.>

How 12 year olds think it is cool to post pictures of them smoking pot and holding alcohol bottles on Facebook. Or how they think it's cool to be like "OhmigodbestpartyeverIgotsodrunk!" And all that crap. It drives me nuts.

All these new TV shows about things that you could leave your house to watch. Hardcore Pawn, Pawn stars, Call of the Wildman, Storage Wars. I am not sure why there are so many of them, and why people seem to find them fascinating. Again, maybe it's just me, but I just have no idea what the appeal of them is.

All of those "Like if you agree" or "1 like is one prayer for this sick little girl" pictures. They are SO freaking annoying, and they try to pity you into liking the picture just because they want attention or something.

lol, this thread kinda turned into Internet memes, but I think it's okay I mentioned those? xD

As far as internet culture is concerned, planking is the worst. omfg just stop.

ALSO ON TUMBLR WHEN YOU SEE A PICTURE TAKEN BY INSTAGRAM AND THERE ARE 14,000 HASHTAGS BEFORE THE 'taken by instagram' THING. And all the hashtags are like #lolcute # boys #ice cream cone #rainbows #girls #skateboard

-Arrow to the knee
-Chuck Testa
-There are more. Oh believe me, there are more.

@Glambert

I do chuckle at the occasional Knee alternative joke, but even I find it ridiculous and overused (and I am a hardcore Skyrim fan myself).

I understand the Harry Potter obsession, because I grew up with it and it really did have a huge influence on my imagination when I was a child. However, now that everything is over in terms of books and movies, my interest in it is more or less "Hey, it's pretty cool", but not all "OMFG!!!!!111!!!". Speaking of Harry Potter, I still don't understand why people debate and compare Twilight and HP. It's like comparing an igloo to a T-Rex.

And to be honest, I love Hardcore Pawn for all the drama. xD But I do agree again on the Slactivism regarding the Facebook chain letters or whatever cause it is at the time.

Hm...another fad that I hate is when people prank you online by putting pictures or vids in those Tinyurl addresses so you can't really trace it. Stuff like Rickroll or even the dreaded Creepypasta pranks (Which I have unfortunately been scarred thanks to a few accidental run-ins). It's not funny and quite frankly, anyone who does pranks like that is a huge jackass.

I'm not terribly fond of how people say that they've "lost their faith in humanity" or say, "this has restored my faith in humanity"

Some people are good, some people are bad. Stop making such MASSIVE over-generalisations. Also you're part of humanity, so....

Misanthropy is a very trendy thing right now it seems. I think it's lame, not to mention useless. Also humanity has gotten a lot better if you look at history. Come on guys.

I also HATE when people actually say common internet abbreviations, and actually say "oh em gee" or "yolo." The point of abbreviating those things is to make texting/typing easier. SAYING it, is just unnecessary and makes you sound stupid.

@Magic I know what you mean, about the tumblr hashtag thing omg!

And I don't get the cake is a lie meme, anyone able to explain? O.o

@Octovan I think the arrow to the knee one just bothers me, because the only guy who likes me (and annoys me) constantly uses it. After about the tenth time I want to slap him.

And I'd rather watch hardcore pawn then most of the other shows like it in TV. I was actually watching it last night haha xD I still don't understand why there has to be multiple shows like it on TV.

And if the link screamed, then it wasn't creepy pasta Creepy pasta is known for no screamers, and if anything the video was just a creepy picture and a recording of someone reading it. (I know this cause I love love love creepy pasta haha) One guy on facebook does that though, the hidden link to something scary/annoying. Like this one comic, omg. It ended up being a screamer with an animation at the end.

I just remembered a few more stupid fads upon logging into Facebook.

-Women in the kitchen jokes or guys telling girls to get back in the kitchen. They are sexist and just really annoying. One guy at my school actually said women shouldn't be allowed to go to school, they should be in the kitchen. And he wasn't making a joke, he was being serious.

and

-The generalization that all women hate video games and freak out at their boyfriends for the smallest things. That annoys me, because I love video games and I am understanding. I would let my boyfriend explain himself before I freaked out about anything, and I wouldn't get pissed if he said something he didn't mean to, or something he said could come off as bad but he just didn't mean it that way.

I feel the same too. You're a human too, so you're not really helping by putting yourself into the equation as well. And sometimes I say a dreaded abbreviation ("Lol" is one I accidentally let slip), but in general I feel like a grammar nazi when people do that.

@Glambert

I personally hate Creepypasta because I accidentally stumbled across the dreaded Smile Dog picture a few times as it was cleverly disguised in a different address. Although I usually love the creepy imagery and stories that come from it, that one picture represents some old demons that I faced growing up, and sent me into a big panic attack that made me lose two nights of sleep. In other words, that picture terrifies me, and to this day I get very nervous when I see pictures in that red sort of filter or where something is photoshopped over a face. I give kudos to whomever made it, since it is very convincing...I just hate it when people use that picture or other CP images as pranks. Even my best friends haven't been spared.

Oh god this.

I hate when people make those jokes. For me, it's largely because it's an incredibly old joke just like the "it's over 9000" joke, or the old "so I herd you like mudkipz" joke. It's really not funny. It used to be, but not anymore. But I feel like I HAVE to laugh just to avoid looking like I'm offended by it. It's annoying.

People who use yolo. It was fine to start with, but now it's just... Ugh. Same with bro. I wasn't bothered by bro until everybody started using it at every opportunity and then I was desperate for them to shut up.
Call Me Maybe jokes. Some have been creative. But wow guys, it's dead. Let it rest. A game I play occasionally throws these out and it causes so much secondhand embarrassment.
Chuck Norris jokes. Those were never funny to me, but years after the initial popularity of them... Mostly when I see someone make one I feel bad for them.
I'm also skeptical of keysmashing now, if only because I saw so much of it on Tumblr and it got irritating. Sometimes it's not bad if it's not overdone, but for the most part it is. That and some "fan" speak, like "what is air," "SCREAMING," etc. Tumblr's ruined loads of things for me, including movies and shows. I know that I can't see anything Harry Potter or Hunger Games related without automatically bracing myself for the obnoxious fannish gibberish that undoubtedly follows. Hell, even the movie Thor is beginning to grate on me, if only because of the Loki fangirls who do not know when to shut up. Any fans like that are just... Ugh. We get that you like it. But you constantly spamming gifs in reaction to everything or throwing quotes around is not cute or clever, it's loveing annoying. There's a reason why "too much of a good thing" is a phrase, and that reason is fans.
... Beg pardon for the novel. I'll stop now.

@Glambert
Idk if anybody answered you about "the cake is a lie" thing, but it's a reference to Portal. The character GlaDOS tries to get the player to do things using the incentive of cake, only for the player to later be told "the cake is a lie."

@Veser Thor and The Avengers too, the fans for that drive me nuts too. Maybe it's just because I am a Norse Pagan, so that sort of thing isn't mythology for me.. but the Loki fans are just annoying. And whenever someone finds out that I am a Norse Pagan, they are like "OMG you are? Seriously? Have you seen The Avengers/Thor?!?!" or "Do you love Loki?! I love Loki he is so hot omg." <.< I am more on Thor and Odin's side, thankyouverymuch.

And thanks for the answer about "the cake is a lie". I don't play portal... So I have never heard it before

THAT reminds me of another thing! Again, not sure if this is a fad or just annoying people, but a lot of people are like "You aren't a video gamer if you don't have a NES" or any other older gaming systems. That really bothers me, considering some of the gaming systems came out before I was born or before I was old enough to really get the idea of video games, and I don't have the money to buy every loveing gaming system ever released. I play what I have for whatever gaming systems I have. And I have a lot of games, just none of the older systems that are expensive and hard as hell to find now a days. Some guy at my school was being a complete ass to me just because I play console games but I don't own a gamecube or an NES.

Edited because I want to say: Obviously a lot irritates me, but also I am obviously very hormonal right now which immediately switches me to "everything-annoys-me-time-to-rant" mode. lmao

@Glambert
The sad thing is, I love the movie. It was well done, and I liked what they took from the comics. It was totally the fans who just... ugh. Made me tired of it. I literally dread seeing anything on my Tumblr dash for it now because I know that more likely there'll be someone flipping their crap over Loki and how unfair crap is and blah blah blah. No ty. Tom Hiddleston is great as Loki, and I love the character. But acting as though he's a victim in all of this... Sorry, but no. People may have wronged him, but he tried to commit genocide, among other things. Part of the fun thing about his character is that he is all kinds of crazy and loveed up and sad and buttheadish. He's a trickster, ffs. Fans trying to coddle him and be "understanding" is frustrating more than anything, because it's like they're totally missing one of the biggest parts of his character.

Lol I only learned the source of "the cake is a lie" in the last year or so. There was a special on Steam for Portal where they offered it for free so I downloaded it. It ended up being a great game, and finally knowing where that phrase was from was nice.

Ugh wow. Honestly, I don't like any kind of fan elitism. If you, as a fan of something, feel the need to say "you're not a real fan if you don't ____," you really need to shut up and sit down and learn how to not be a total ass. Idk why people feel the need to do that with anything. But video games? Really? Wow so you have more money to afford different platforms and games than some people. Go you! You are clearly a better gamer than me because of this. Clearly.

It's okay about the rant. I don't even need to be hormonal to rant. It's like my default setting.
