So what are your favorite hair dye(s)? I'm thinking about dyeing parts of my blonde hair a light lilac and a light pink, but I'm not 100% sure yet. What do you guys think and recommend?

Please ping if you reply!

@Oblivia
I usually just use Manic Panic. It lasts a moderately long time, depending on how you wash your hair, and I think it's worth it for the price. If the colour you want comes in the Amplified formula, definitely get that. It lasts longer than the regular.
I've also heard good things about Special Effects, but I have never used it myself.

@ Oblivia - I use Splat Lusty Lavender on my hip length naturally mudbrown hair, and it is wonderful I combine it with Garnier Color Shield shampoo and conditioner to maintain the color and keep my hair silky soft.

is one from a few months ago.

touched up in May. It's not usually quite 'so' dark on top, not the best quality pics here, but that' how it looks over the natural brown. I bleached my hair once, and said never again, so now i just do my roots and an all over touch up. It's been purple now for over a year and I'm soso happy with it.

@Oblivia
For 'unnatural' colours I've tried Stargazer dyes, Rusk Scream and Crazy Color, and the latter seems to be the best for me

^ is Crazy Color's 'Pinkissimo' (please ignore the ridiculousness of that photo in general haha)
They do a decent range of colours, all of which I think you can dilute if you want the result to be paler.

I haven't tried Manic Panic or Special Effects (yet!!) but I've read generally positive reviews about them. ;3

I use Manic Panic because it's vegan, it lasts pretty long (as long as you don't wash your hair everyday), and they have nice colors. c:
Before that, I used 'N Rage, and that worked pretty well, too. It also smells like bubblegum, so!

@HeyBrittany
I wash it every two days, but if I'm feeling really lazy it's every three days.

@Psychedelia
I'll check that out. I know our local walmart sells it.

@Haze
Dang! That is some nice vibrant pink! Looks good, I'll look into those brands, too.

I use Manic Panic Hot Hot Pink.
This is after i'd already had it a few weeks.

When I first did it, it was crazy bright and black light reactant, haha.

I recently dyed the top half of my hair blue, and the bottom purple. I used Splat! Blue Envy and Lusty Lavender, but they really didn't do that well on my hair. After this, I ordered some Special Effects dye in Wildflower and Deep Purple to use instead.

Well, it took a while to ship so I thought "hey I still have half a bottle of both, I might as well mix them together." so I did. And I let that sit on my head for 5 hours. And the result was a BRIGHT blue on the top, and a subtle purple on bottom. The purple is fading faster than the blue (thankfully) but I'm kinda regretting buying the Special Effects due now, even if Wildflower is gorgeous. >.<

@Psychedelia

I read on a thread somewhere that you said that you've had jobs with purple hair. S my question to you is, where re these jobs? I really don't want to go out looking for a new job because I want to keep my blue hair, but I also need a job.

@Oblivia
This is a photo of me about 1 month after dying my hair blue with punky colors
I then tried to get the hair dye out so I could go back to natural and that crap does not come out.
So yeah I would suggest that. It's slightly cheaper than manic panic and lasts way longer with much more vibrant colors.

@Dalek - 'is hiding behind a couch now'

No, I don't have a job in the corporate world. I DO work for an author friend of mine (note sig advertising) but as it's friends, he doesn't care wtf I look like, as long as I do what's asked. You will have trouble finding a job, but, what you can do to minimize the "dye your hair or else" is to wear it back, in a braid, ponytail, or other non obvious way that won't draw attention to it. Most places don't like "unnatural" dyes, but, will let slide if it's not in your face about it, at least I've found. Example, I know a girl who works at the local Subway who has pink streaks, and since she always wears her hair pinned back (partly for food prep reasons) she's never had a problem w/ her streaks.

Oh. Well I mostly wear mine up when I'm working anyways. And I suppose if it bothered them that much they could just ask me to dye it. Thanks for your suggestions!

Thank you My hair was bleached & a yellowy colour beforehand so that definitely helped the dye to take.

(& not wanting to hijack the thread, but to everyone who's posted pics, you all have fabulous hair *__*)

@Haze - I bleached mine once, the first time, last year when I dyed it but I hated how badly it damaged my hair that now i just dye the roots/do an all over touch up, and the purple still looks good. My hair goes down to my hips and grows slowly, I can't afford to dye and chop it off to rebleach, but I love the cool ways some people do their hair, either with bleached or being light blondes. The badass pink is gorgeous, but I won't bleach mine again for an almost neon purple, I like the slightly darker hue.

@Psychedelia
Yeah, bleach can be pretty brutal when it comes to damage :c Even with deep conditioning mine was always fried, so hopefully sticking with pink for a while will give it a break!
I wouldn't risk it either if I had your hair - it looks lovely as it is and I must say that's a wonderful shade of purple (plus I'm just a tad envious of the fact it's hip length! How long did it take? I'm still going for elbow-length and it's taking a lonnggg time).
I did love being blonde, even if it was a kinda 'brassy' shade. I see people with the most gorgeous platinum shades and man, do I want it .__. If only bleach wasn't so damaging... but I'm still perfectly happy with my newly-named 'badass pink' :'D

I've heard manic panic is pretty good and as far as I know it isn't harmful to your hair( not counting the bleach) because it's made with natural substances but I've never used it. I always go to salons to get my hair dyed personally and at the moment I'm avoiding doing stuff to my hair in general because I'm attempting to grow it out.

@Haze - It has taken me years to get it this long, and it's not growing any further, it seems. I'd like it to be about six inches longer, but, it just may not be able to. My hair is also thinning, so this might be part of it as well. .

Verdy nice! I'll be buying a ton of different colors, I can see it now.

I watched some tutorials and that's what they suggested, too. Haha, hijacking is perfectly okay. Everyone who has posted a pic does have fabulous hair. I'm afraid of screwing mine up, so I might go out and get it done.

@Oblivia

I use RAW that I get from Hot Topic when I do my hair myself and I have no idea what brand my hairdresser uses, but I like RAW better anyways. The blue lasts about a month in my hair (including when it fades to green) but the pink didn't take to my hair very well - it turned orange within 2 weeks whoops.

2+ years ago, purple/blue/green streaks
2 years ago, blue/green chunk and yes, that is a duckling sitting on my lap. Her name is Nicky and she's a big fat duck now :3
last summer
also last summer

My hair is just normal black right now I haven't decided if I want to bleach it again, try to do a subtle hue, or just bandwagon and ombre it.

@Psychedelia
I'm really tempted to pick up a box of Splat now! I've only had purple streaks once and it washed out after 2 washes and turned grey and I was super disappointed... I've grown/cut all the bleached sections in my hair out but I've been wanting a more subtle hue over my hair. I have black hair naturally though so it probably wouldn't work, but I guess it doesn't hurt to try.
