Occasionally, when playing Shell Spotter, the site seems to be sending me directly to the guessing page without showing me the shell to match. As a result, I have to choose randomly between the four, and I've lost several good streaks as a result. I'm not aware of anything on my end that I could be doing to cause this.

(I've also encountered another issue, where clicking one of the four choices prompts the site to tell me that I'm playing an invalid game, but those don't seem to count against my streak.)

Does anyone have a clue what the problem is or how to fix it? I'd really like to get the top tier achievement, but this glitch/bug/user error/etc is making it harder than I think it was intended to be.

@ The more information you can provide in your report, the better. I recommend including at least the basic information requested in the bug report instructions sticky:

Topic: Reporting a bug (READ THIS)

Other information that would help includes the browser & browser version, as well as any browser extensions/addons that you're running when you encounter these issues.

Can you tell me what other info I'm missing, then? All I'm seeing at that link that wasn't in my original post is the OS/browser info, so I'm not sure what you mean by "at least the basic information". I can't exactly give the page the bug is occurring on, because the occurrence is the total absence of a page, not some part of a page not working.
(I could give you the URL for the 'invalid game' error the next time it happens, if you'd like a page for that one, but I'm currently much more concerned about the error that's actually impeding my gameplay.)

And I'm running Firefox 13.0.1 in a Windows 7 environment. Most of my browser add-ons are specific to other sites, none are likely to be relevant here.

@ OS/browser info and any applicable page URLs were primarily what I was referring to, along with a copy+paste of any specific error messages you are receiving. Browser extensions/addons may also be relevant to your situation, particularly if any are security-related (script blockers, ad blockers, antivirus extensions, etc.)... The information the programmers have regarding your issue, the better, particularly as it's not one that seems to be widespread. Uncommon bugs are often trickier for them to pin down!

It just happened again, and much to my surprise it turns out I actually CAN give a URL! The page isn't absent- another page is present when it's not supposed to be.

http://subeta.net/games/seashell_spotter.php?start=true is supposed to present the shell to match, followed by guessing on http://subeta.net/games/seashell_spotter.php When the glitch occurs, I am getting the four choices on http://subeta.net/games/seashell_spotter.php?start=true instead. There isn't an error message associated with this bug.

The addons I'm running which aren't specific to other sites are Expire History By Days 1.1, Fangs 1.0.8, and Old Location Bar 2.1.6

I'm having the same problem @ I'd do good on a streak & then BAM it skips showing me picture of the shell.

I just got skipped straight to the choosing too. Newest Firefox, only addon I have is Adblock Plus 2.1.2.

This has been happening to me, too. No double-clicking or refreshings--it'll just go right to the guesses or the 'invalid game' message.

I'm on FF13 (I'm fairly certain... I know I don't have FF14)

I'm also getting this problem. happened a few times I'm NOT double clicking or refreshing. I use the latest version of Chrome

I'm being send directly to the guess page without getting the model shell as well, with no double-clicks or refreshes. It's happening to me after I get the 15th shell in a row right. I have Firefox 13.1--I downgraded from 14 because of the wardrobe issues.

Okay, tried again and right on guess 15, it happened.

@GreenRowan It's from Terry Pratchett's Wintersmith. Young witch Tiffany Aching tries to make some Lancre Blue and the result ends up even more lively than normal variety. He's just a small character, though him assaulting and later joining a clan of belligerent pixies (who protect Tiffany) is a highly amusing side-track.

Im having a trouble with this game because ive already played way more than 6 times, but it doesnt count and im not being given the achievements!

@ are you getting it correct each and every time? The achievement only counts consecutive wins.

I forgot to add my two cents in.

Last night, with Chrome and WIndows 7 I wasn't able to get past iteration 12. It could be a perfect match, but it would tell me that it was not. Doing the same thing with Firefox 14 this was not a problem.

Arrrgghhh noooooo! It went to the four shells page without giving me a shell to look at first. Dang! I was about 11th on the high score table too, I'd just been to check on that

*headdesk* I didn't refresh the page, or accidentally double click.
I clicked the link at the bottom of the high score table to go back, then clicked to start the game.
It went straight to four shells on: http://subeta.net/games/seashell_spotter.php?start=true

I'm using FF12, Win XP

oh oh oh I got soooooooo lucky and guessed the right one! *mops brow*

If its any help, the shells were the green striped mollusc ones.

I went into the Control Panel settings on my computer and turned the double-click speed way down, and it seems to have stopped for the time being.

Anyone else having this problem, try fiddling with that (or its equivalent in your OS) and see if it helps.

It happened again when I got to a score of around 680. Went right off playing the game then, lol. Scarcely played it since. Might give it another go, but its such a loooong way to get back up there

@ I still haven't played many more games, but it hasn't happened again. I think go ahead and lock this, I've not seen any other players mention any problems
