I've had glasses since fifth grade. I'm super near-sighted. From where I'm sitting, if I take off my glasses I can't read what I'm typing. The trees outside would just be a green blob. I don't mind glasses though, they hide the purple-tinge under my eyes during the school year from lack of sleep.

I just got a second pair of frames, too.

That's what I do too. MAGIC SOLUTION, IT'S SCIENCE.
If I can squeeze out a few more hours/minutes of clear vision without glasses, then I will! |:

My eyesight is truly nothing short of terrible, except when just sitting around and reading a book. I feel nauseated if I try to read a book in a car with my glasses on.

@skyrocket, it takes a lot of practice and many very long hot bus rides with nothing more to look at than sand, to really change your mind about reading on a bus. You know you need to find something else to do when you fall asleep on a bus and wake up five hours later and are only an hour into your approximately three hour commute. Not for everyone though, I understand.

Hmmm I have astigmatic eyes.. it gets annoying when my eyes are tired because everything gets fuzzy and sometimes I get double vision when reading, but other times I'm pretty much fine.

@Psychedelia
I'm about to turn 22 and I was told that I would likely be blind before I'm 35. That was about 5 years ago though, so I don't really know how it's been progressing. I avoid asking/thinking about it, to be honest. My optometrist knows I don't care to know, so she doesn't mess around when I go to see her, lol.

I haven't taken mobility/braille classes, and I don't plan to. There is a lot of crap I would like to learn that I won't be able to learn when/if I go blind, so I spend my time on that. Looking and learning about the beauty of the universe--if I can keep these memories for the rest of my life, I'm hoping being blind might not be quite so depressing. Plus, I figure I'll have plenty of time to learn braille when I am blind =/. You know, the thing that pisses me off the most about this is that I know sign language. But I have a few great people that will help take care of me if I need it. That's the thing that scares me the most, though, I don't want to need help, and I certainly don't want to ruin the life of the girl I love. Sometimes some pretty crazy crap goes through my mind when I start thinking about this and I just can't figure out what the best course of action is, which is why I don't like to think about it.

My mom tried to get a cornea transplant two years ago and for some reason they couldn't do it--again, I really try not to pay attention. So if I didn't also inherit that quality, my eyes may be savable, but I'm not going to find out about that for a few more years. "A time for everything, and everything in it's own time." is pretty much how I think of it. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen, but I'm not going to ruin the time I have worrying about/preparing for it. Atleast that's how I like to think about it, although I accept that I'm likely in some form of denial. Oh well, Amor Fati.

I first got glasses when I was 9 or 10, but I didn't find out I was going to go blind eventually until I was around 15.

@skyrocket
There's a bit of hope, but I'm not one to cling to hope one way or another. I'll find out one day, and then I'll know, but for today I'm just gonna' go for a boat ride, bait some bears, hopefully get a few pictures, and just generally live my life in a beautiful place. I've taken some beautiful pictures this summer, these are the types of things I would miss the most =/. I gotta' get out of this topic, I'm gettin' all depressed here xd.

I typed all this out at 6am this morning and my internet cut out, I took these pictures at about 7:30. Sometimes it seems like the universe is trying to lift my spirits, but at the same time it seems like it's just being an butthead. Could have got some nice pictures of one of my little 200-lb bears too, he walked right up like 12 feet from me, but I didn't have my camera. Sweet day, lifted my spirits after getting all depressed in this topic, lol.

@Dacrygelosis - I live in denial because I know it'll happen, so enjoy what i can, but because I have a spawnage, I have to in some ways plan ahead for her life as well and how I will live blind and have to raise her, if it happens before she's 18 or on her own in college or so. I was originally told when I was a kid I'd be lucky to make it to 30... then 35... now I might see 40. I'm 33 now. But i know mine's getting worse, so it might be closer rather than farther. This is also why I want to do everything I want to do, like go overseas again, and go see OM live someday, and maybe if Roky ever tours again.....

I also know it puts a crimp in things I do want to do, like live in the country and have a small self sustaining farm/commune because in time I simply won't be able to care for everything on my own.

I'm not lucky enough to be with anyone, or to have any prospects of being with anyone long term, so I have to look to a future alone. I can't hang hopes on someone magically appearing.

I have a -3.50 in both eyes, but I have contacts that give me 20/20 vision. It's just a pain in the bum to have to take them out every night and wake up with blurry vision until I can stick them back in my eyes, but glasses make me feel like I'm in a fish bowl and they always gave me headaches because the corners of my vision were always blurry

I mainly need my glasses for when I'm in class, and there was this one time that I forgot them at home and we were taking notes. I basically ended up writing gibberish because I couldn't make out the words at all. And now I'm going to get contacts, I hope it goes well.

Perfect 20/20 vision eyes. I use my laptop A LOT and I also read a lot during the school year, so I don't think you should really blame your vision on those things But I get what my eye doctor calls "eye headaches" almost 24/7. It's just when you see lots of little sparkles. I usually don't notice them because I am use to them, but if I look near a light or go outside without sunglasses on I really notice them.

We didn't find out what they were for a long time, because they aren't exactly common xD Anyways, the sparkles aren't usually distracting. The only time I really notice them is if I stare at something for a minute, then you'll be able to see little sparkles. But if I look at a light or if I go outside without sunglasses on and it's bright outside, then they become really irritating and really noticeable.

I've needed glasses/contacts since 6th grade. I prefer and currently use contacts, both my eyes are -3.25 last time I went to an eye doc but that was over a year ago and I think I'm going back sometime next week.

Nah, they're just eye headaches. If my doctor isn't worried than I'm not worried. I also get these swirls in my vision, and the swirls blend everything together to the point where I can't tell what's what. I've only gotten them twice though. My doctor wasn't able to diagnose what exactly it is, but because it distorts my vision so badly (they're also followed by a migraine.) that he said, if untreated, they could cause seizures in the future. Ever since I started being treated for my migraines though, I've never had one again.

So really, don't be jealous of those with perfect vision xD Cause chances are those with perfect vision are going to get/already have eye-related problems, despite their 'perfect' vision.

It's like a convention of almost-blind people, how lovely. As for myself, I've been wearing glasses ever since the 2nd grade. But, for the past 4 years, I've been wearing contacts because my eyesight is so bad that wearing glasses outside makes me a bit dizzy.
So yeah, my left eye is at -7 and my right eye is at -8. It was only to be expected though, my mom was in the -10s before she got laser eye surgery. All her siblings wear glasses as well and her mom had the thickest glasses of all time.

I can't remember what my actual prescription is, but my eyesight sucks. xD
Both my eyes are really bad, although my left is worse and it's also slower to focus, so I don't have very good depth perception and it's pretty hard to focus on anything. :c Especially when I'm moving.

Most people in my family seem to have crapty eyesight. xD My mom, brother and I wear glasses and my dad SHOULD be wearing some, but he doesn't.

My eye doctor makes me carry around a card all the time so I can call if my retina detaches, because I have a higher chance of that happening.

Contacts really are so handy, especially if you do sports. Plus you can wear sunglasses again.
And pretty well. I mean, she doesn't have to wear glasses any more, except for reading. And she told me that once my grade is stable for a year, I can have my eyes done as well.

SUNGLASSES ARE THE BOMB. I always go out with a pair, even when it's rainy because my left eye is really really sensitive to sunlight (baseball bat accident).
And man, I know, lasers and eyes just don't go together. Hopefully, by the time I can do it, I'll be reconciled to the fact. But right now it gives me the heebie jeebies.
