So my fiancée and I have been going ring shopping lately and he is months away from finishing his firefighting classes and getting certified. But I digress. My real question here is one about rings. As a firefighter he'll be encountering some situations. I know he's not going to be bare handed but all the same, I'm really jus trying to find out what kind of material ring will be a good hardy ring and withstand some abuse but still be a really nice to look at. =]

I'm neither a firefighter or a firefighter's spouse, but might I suggest that you look into either tungsten-carbide, titanium or platinum rings? Both are very hardy and durable, but I believe the tungsten-carbide also has the advantage of being rather scratch resistant.

Personally I think they look very nice too.

I'm a volunteer fire fighter/ EMT. A lot of the us (both the guys and girls) choose not to wear rings while working because our hands in in and out of gloves and it's super easy to pull the ring off while taking gloves off. The one guy accidental threw his ring away when he went on a medical assist and he was pulling the rubber gloves off and threw them away. Another girl I work with lost one of her diamonds from her ring while wearing her fire gloves.
