Hey! I'm diagnosed with GDA (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and I want to share some of the things I do that I know are silly but I have to do anyway to keep calm. In this thread I'd also as you to share your anxiety stories and habits. This thread is to have a silly outlook on what IS a serious mental problem.

I have a phobia of roaches and a severe fear of needles.

As for the roaches, I get literal chills thinking about them. Every two days I call my boyfriend over to help me vacuum my room and clean behind everything and pick up everything and put it back down. My bed also broke a few years ago, and I refuse to fix it for several reasons, one being that's one less place a roach can hide. Every night I have anxiety about them I stuff towels under my door and leave my cat out of my room incase she brings one in. In the event I do see one I yell for my 14 year old brother down stairs to kill it, no matter the time of night. After the fact I can't sleep without sleeping pills or xanax the following three or four days.

Other things I do:
*I sprint past windows at night incase somebody tries to shoot me.
*I keep the tv on because if I hear a noise in the house I can't sleep the rest of the night. (This is literal) But then I get afraid I can't hear somebody coming cause the tv is on.
*I sleep with a knife by my bed.

Aaa, I have Panic Disorder and Social Anxiety Disorder. uou
My fifth grade teacher thought I was mute because I was so afraid of talking to her, heehee.
I don't really know if I have many quirky or funny stories, hm. I have really bad eyesight so I'm afraid to have my glasses off, and that can get pretty ridiculous at times. And I have a really severe fear of Outer Space and Aliens, as well as apocalypse situations, anything relating to infinity, or things ending, unu
Is there anything specific about it you want to discuss?

I've never been diagnosed with anything as I haven't talked to a doctor about it, but I get extremely anxious in social situations sometimes. Public speaking is about the worst, but little things like talking to people or even just going to school/work causes some anxiety which manifests in an upset stomach or leg shaking if I'm sitting down. It's difficult for me to stay still in general unless I'm totally comfortable or forcing myself to not shake my leg or tap my fingers.

Yesterday I had to attempt to get people to sign up for cards at work, as in approach everyone who walked into the store and I about cried at one point lol. But overall I was pretty proud of myself and no one was a jerk about not wanting one. So while on one hand I was a bit annoyed at my boss for purposely putting me in that position when he knew I wouldn't enjoy it, I somewhat appreciate that he was trying to get me out of my shell. I doubt I'll ever be a super outgoing, good sales type of person but I can do what needs to be done at least even if it's terrifying sometimes

I found work got me out of my social anxiety. On the other hand I get huge anxiety under pressure. At work I usually feel like I need to get EVERYTHING done at once. I get super jittery when it's busy at work and I feel like I'm going to pass out. I still manage to get all of my work done efficiently (how? I'll never know) My manager knows that I'm a great worker so she tends to pile the work on me. It's nice that she can count on me, but it makes me feel extremely overwhelmed. I usually have to go to the back (even if I'm dealing with a customer) and take several deep breaths.

It's especially bad if there's screaming/crying kids in the store. Loud noises really trigger my anxiety.

I haven't been diagnosed either since I haven't told my doctor or anyone much about it, but I get anxious when having to go to events or places that involve social interaction. Especially if there's a crowd of people, I try not to show myself much towards anyone or look directly at people and when seeing me out in public alone you'd likely see something's wrong with me since I get paranoid and can't just go about my business like a decent human being.
Especially when there is a time where I have to do something that involves meeting people, the day that comes I often try to avoid going and try to set things at later dates all because I'm not ready or would literally at some points start to cry because I just can't. Even when having school especially in my senior year, there were more often times I couldn't have been bothered and was out thirty days where likely more than half was because of it.

No stop to my spreading,
Unarmed die around me,

I'm not diagnosed with anything, but there was a time (and I suppose it still happens from time to time today) where the dark would unnerve me to no end. It did make me a bit anxious. I've always been an introvert with an overactive imagination, so when I stare into dark corners for a while, my mind likes to play tricks on me. Of course, I generally dismiss my mind's eye with pure logic, but it used to unsettle me nonetheless.

Needles, however, make me blubber like a two year old, ahaha. ;p

@GENERATION
The glasses thing I found odd, where do you think that started?

@Rorschach
Oh gosh. I would have just flat out freaked out. Or called my boyfriend.

@Ricardoe
Dx I hate loud sounds. I'm in the marching band and they always try to put the flutes by the snare drums.

@SnappleGirl
I'm sorry that sounds terrible. -Hugs.-

@War
;-; Needles. I don't do needles. I gave a doctor a black eye once.

Ugh, anxiety sucks.
I have GAD, PTSD, and Panic Disorder, so I can relate. I first got diagnosed with GAD when I was in kindergarten though just in the past few years I started having panic attacks.

I always sleep with the news on because I feel as if something bad is happening in the world, I can just wake up and know immediately and I get anxious if I can't do that. I have severe social anxiety. I get panicky being in wide open spaces and areas without many people. Tornadoes terrify me even though I live somewhere where they don't happen, so I always freak out if we have a bad thunderstorm. I get really anxious if I have to change lanes while driving and will go far out of my way so I don't have to do so.

Most of my other anxieties come from delusions though. I once got myself so wound up I had the delusion that the Iranians were bombing us and I was hiding in my closet. I've had other incidents too but I feel crazy just thinking about them.

I have anxiety about falling asleep.
Most nights I am home alone, and just can't sleep.
The last time I fell asleep when I was home alone, someone tried robbing my house, so of course that just sets me off meaning I won't sleep until someone comes home, or it's around eight in the morning, the sun is up and neighbors are awake.
I also have to sleep with the room very bright. There needs to be at least one light on. For example, for a nightlight I use a massive 12ft tall light up palm tree. Last but not least I have to sleep with my back against the wall. I can't sleep if the bed is open on both sides. It needs to be pressed in a corner, so I can sleep with my back to the wall, and my front facing the open room.

i was diagnosed with hypochondriasis a couple months back. my case eventually got so severe i had to spend a while in a psychiatric hospital. fun!! it's mostly under control now, but i still have difficulties falling and staying asleep, as well as with germs of all kinds. i have been responsible for dishes cleaned without soap since i used it all washing my hands haha. there have also been occasions where i'd eat something and bet on my life it had been poisoned because it made my stomach hurt
