Does anyone here sew?

I'm actually stuffing a doll right now... ugh. I have a love-hate relationship with everything I do. lol At least it will be fulfilling in the end. Just kind of bored and tired.

Please ping me.

Say, its only a paper moon

Sailing over a cardboard sea

I wish I did. Halloween is coming up, and my costume is still in pieces! I'm thinking of using... glue or something >.>

But it wouldn't be make-believe

If you believed in me

The laughter had not quite died from his face.

I sew sometimes. I'm not very good at it. I've made a few plushies and clothes. Right now I have a denim dress I bought that needs some slimming... I'm so scared I'll ruin it, though.

@Calypsico
I wish I could sew a bit better

I've made a few clothes so far, some shorts, an apron, and a skirt, but they didn't turn out totally how I wanted them
I don't think I have the patience (or the needle-proof fingers!)

It's such a useful thing to be able do though, editing clothes and stuff

How has the doll turned out?

I just bought a sewing machine a few weeks ago and have only made t-shirt bags. My main goal is quilting, but school is keeping me super busy. I've been knitting, too.

@Xsiah
You're making your own costume? What are you going to be?

@Sirius
Just do as much preparation as you can, and then you'll just have to dive in. I'm sure it'll be great! I have a dress I need to alter, but I'm still scared to touch it. It has a lot of layers and the outside is all lace... x_x

@Dobby
Oh wow. Nice! I haven't been able to sew any clothes yet... I'm very jealous of what you've made so far. Did you use patterns?
The doll turned out well. It was really simple, just a little dinosaur.

@e1ggam
That's cool. Quilting is really cool. I used to help my grandma when I was little, but I haven't made any since. Hopefully you'll have some time soon to make something.
What stuff do you knit?

I've knitted a scarf and hat so far, and I'm working on a diagonally striped scarf right now. But once again, school is in the way lol

And I've got a quilt my grandma made, and it is so warm so I want to make a bunch!

Yesss, no way could I have made up patterns by myself, I also had some help with the tricky bits (like gathering)
They were very basic patterns too, the skirt was just long rectangles that were gathered and sewn together. I'm sure you could make something like (and you don't actually have to wear it if it doesn't turn out so well)!
The best bit was the dying of the apron, so much fun though I ended up with green fingers for a few days!

That sounds adorable! Do you have a picture?

@Calypsico

Ooh, I love sewing! I have made a long velvet skirt for myself and a short, blue, Victorian style cape for a Halloween costume project - amongst other things. I also have made many sock monsters, as I have a lot of socks with un-repairable holes...!

Do you machine or hand sew - or both?

Being a Dateless Loser

I am learning how to sew I have made 2 pillow inserts (rectangle things stuffed with stuffing to put in pillow cases) which is a huge achievement for me. I now need to learn how to turn these beautiful placemats I have into cushion covers with zips.

I know how to use a sewing machine but I have yet to buy one.
Until I get one I'm only doing smaller projects or else I would go crazy having to do everything by hand. ;______;

@Calypsico
I hand-sew little brooches and keyrings from felt, which is fun. I really want to learn how to use a sewing machine and make my own clothes, though!

I know what you mean I think I've enjoyed sewing a lot less since I opened an Etsy shop, because I'm too worried about whether people are going to like it, rather than enjoying it. I think I might go back to just doing it for myself for fun x) (I have the same problem with drawing too )

@Dead
The cape I made was completely hand-sewn - I think I was on a 'Victorian home made authenticity' vibe! It takes a while, but a good horror film (or two) playing in the background makes the sewing go faster!

@Calypsico I do machine sewing; I'm still a little new so I'm borrowing my mom's machine until I can figure out what features I want in my own. I actually just spent awhile earlier today cutting out the paper patterns for a fleece hoodie I'm making for myself. (Ugh, I hate dealing with all that tissue paper.) It'll be plaid, and I don't have any experience making plaid match up right, so I got a lot of extra fabric and will cross my fingers (but not while sewing). I finished a summer dress (a little late) a couple weeks ago, so I'm happy to have a new project.

A dinosaur doll sounds adorable! Do you make a lot of plushies?

@Dobby I still have a weird sort-of-scab from a straight pin going about an inch into the heel of my hand. :c I so know what you mean about needle-proofing. My hands, the thimbles do nothing!

@Calypsico I have a sewing machine but I only know the basics. I'm trying to go beyond basics and try to find new patterns and try to make them. Although, I'm new at the whole concept of sewing since I can only go beyond of making pillows and small blankets/quilts. Someday, I want to make clothes (especially my own personal costumes) and stuff animals.

I mostly do stuff by hand. Unless they're sergers, I tend to have issues with machines. (Granted, mine is a 40+ year old hand me down.)
What did you need help with doll-wise?
