@Sneaky Oh my gosh, my most heartfelt condolences. My cat, too, passed away from diabetes in 2022. He was a month away from turning 10.

No one will ever replace the ones we've lost, but I hope your new pal brings a lot of joy, love, and her own impact into your life. ♡

@Sneaky

I'm so sorry for your loss, and congratulations on the win of the spotlight. Talking about grief, and guilt, is so hard sometimes. Your honesty and vulnerability helps others not feel so alone.

As someone who works with lots of animals professionally, I hope I can bring you some peace by sharing that there are multiple reasons an individual may develop something like diabetes. You just can't know that the food truly played a role. And even if it did, it's important to remember that you were doing your best with what you knew at the time. Sometimes we don't know until it's too late. It sounds like you gave a loving home that accepted her as she was (anti-social in ways) and did your very best to support her comfort when you realized something was off. Sending you warm supportive thoughts today as this is brought back to the forefront of your mind.

I'm wrestling with my own guilt and complex emotions over a very complicated medical case that resulted in us losing our sweet boy Pax towards the end of last year. Thankful for the reminder that we're all trying to do our best for those we love, and that sometimes we get handed something we can't reasonably foresee.

I hope your new loved one can help provide healing.

@Sneaky loved the tribute to your sweet kitty. Unfortunately, sometimes those things happen. Nothing is promised and you gave her a lovely, comfy life full of wonderful sleeping spaces. And now you have a new kitty to love and spoil. <3 Such is life.

@Sneaky Congrats on the win! It was a very nice tribute. :) But I must say after spending around 40 years - most of my life - around cats, please don't blame yourself for the diabetes. She most likely would have developed it anyway. It was just a tragic thing that happened. But you took her to the vet and you tried to care for her, and that is so important. I'm so glad you wound up with another cat. She needed a good home. And this one is friendly and wants to be loved and return it. She will enrich your lives. Mine have. :)

Oh, I forgot I had this pet in the queue.

Since then, we ended up with a new cat. It was last November, my stepfather of all people who doesn't like cats brought her home. It was because there was someone he knew who had gotten a cat for a friend, but that friend couldn't have her because her accommodation didn't allow pets, so she had nowhere to go, and my stepfather must have taken pity on her, and he also knows my Mum likes cats. She's a tortoiseshell cat with a bit of tabby in her, she's really friendly and also very vocal. A lot different to our last cat, but that's fine because we didn't want an exact replacement. She's not a replacement, she's just another cat.
