God I know it's my first day back and I'm on the thinnest ice I can be on but, what I have to say may offend, and I apologize a head of time, I don't mean to. Let's get the bad points out of the way first.

<br>1. It looks... fat. Maybe slim it down a tad or make it more muscular looking?
<br>2. It's head seems a tad small for the body size.
<br>3. It's wings... Crooked and even the ugliest Gargoyles have thinner wings. Take Disney's Gargoyles for instance. Broadway, the FAT one, and Hudson, the other, "not so slender" Gargoyle, have slender, dragon/demonic wings. See?

I can live with this change. not sure who to vote for though. Probably toss a coin.

I hate to see how he lost his mysterious 'leave me alone'- look. he looks a lot more open one, and I liked the old one a lot better. long time ago in the editorial someone asked if pet ___ could receive a makeover, and you said the new pets wouldnt need one. I actually agreed. I don't see why you keep giving the pets 'makeovers', I think many of them looked just fine the way they were, and now they're just being.. I dunno. uncutified for the aske of realism? like with the antlephore for example. maybe it's just me but... eh. I feel my magnus got killed in his personality. :/

I like this new Magnus much more than the old one. It really has that stoney look down, yet they eyes look strangely more alive than the rest of the pet. This is good; it creates more of the gargoyle-esque illusion, like something that's alive is trying to hide it or something that's not living wishes it were.

After reading some of the other comments, I wish to add more to my own. My constructiveism would be to thin down the wings area, I see how the body is supposed to be bulkier looking muscular and stronger like a stone gargoyle. I get that, I think what bothers me if the width of the wing parts (those big wide claw thingies), as If they weigh too much to use. [ And dont bother with that oh he gildes not flys, or whatever, it's besides the point. We're going on looks, not function.} If there were some way to keep the pose of the old Magnus and just add these lvls of detail and new coloring like this new version has, that would make my day. I still vote old, I don't see why everything needs a revamp around here anyway, if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

<br>First of all, I really do love the texture on the newer Magnus. It's very lovely and stony, enough said.

<br>I -can- see what people mean when they say that the newer Magnus looks pudgy, but I do -not- think it looks OMGFAT. It just looks bulkier. This may have to do with the frontal view vs. side view, shading, positioning of the forelimbs, or the way the back feet seem to be pointing further outwards, as if to support a greater girth... I'm in no way an expert on anatomy, so I can't say for sure. Nevertheless, it does look more burly, brawny, etc. rather than the more lithe look of the original. Again, maybe that was just the side view, I don't know. Don't yell at me. x0

<br>I also agree with justsomechick's statement that the head looks stretched somehow. The snout makes an awkward curve, I think, as if it's been skewed, and I think it looks too vertically thin in relation to the rest of the head. In addition, there's something about the head and face that really doesn't seem to go with the body, in my opinion. The head gives me sort of an impression of delicacy and refinement, or elegance or something. It seems to me that the mouth and snout area in itself is proportionally smaller on the new Magnus, and the mouth does not reach as far back on the jaw as it perhaps should. That all contributes to this impression. Now, when that is coupled with the body, which seems to be muscular... it just feels strange. It's like there are two distinct 'looks' that are trying to be expressed in a single image, and they don't compliment each other terribly well.

<br>And now the little things, which are somewhat personal... even though I don’t own a Magnus... xD; like the longer horns and tail on the original... and the whiskers. :X Whiskers are cool. (And I think the facial expression looks too disdainful on the new one... blah blah, that’s just me...)

Like I said before. It's a definite improvement. The whole point of a redraw is for it not to be exactly the same as before, isn't it?

The revamp is beautiful, but I think the old one is still a little better. The detail is definetly a plus, and if the old one was just spruced up with a little more detail (shading, lighting, etc) it would look just as good. Okay, after cooling down, let me stop and not be as annoyed as I was yesterday. XD Now, I like this remake. I do. But, I wouldn't want the exact image above to replace the current one, and I don't feel bad about voting for the old one yesterday.

<br>First of all, it really doesn't matter whether it's <i>technically</i> proportionally same as the last. What matters is how it <i>looks</i> in this particular pose, which is what people don't like (and what matters, since it's the image that represents all Magnuses). In THIS pose, it does look bulkier and generally thicker than the old one. There's no need for this.
<br>
<br>Second, the purpose of giving it a makeover was to update it to the current graphic standards of Subeta, am I correct? If that's the case, then it's certainly done that, it's very well-done. But there's also a few small changes that people don't like that's making things worse. Here, I just made this:

<br>I'd like to first point out to all the haters that you can see in the image that it's torso/body is not necessarily larger at all, we are in fact just looking at the old one from the side. Also, its arms and legs aren't really wider either.

<br>Instead, the arms are actually a different shape. The forearm is longer now, with the upper arm much, much shorter (as in, the parts of the arm on either side of the elbow arn't the same length). Also with the arms, the shoulders are much more muscular now. The old Magnus didn't have bulky shoulders, so there's no reason for this one to. It's just contributing to the illusion of chubbiness.
<br>
<br>Also, the head of the new Magnus was really bothering me for some reason, and I realized why: it's definitely stretched upwards. The perspective in general on the right side of its face seems off.
<br>
<br>Finally, the right ear on the redraw is totally out of place and should be redone. This is the ONLY real anatomical problem I see in the redraw. It's minor but noticable.
<br>
<br>Maybe I'm being picky. XD But, I'm just trying to point out why people might be not liking it so much. This new style is wonderful, it's just... not the 100% best example to give people, since it's misleading at first look. And first impressions last.

Tatertot. I said this before. I adore this pet. You did an amazing job, I love the stone texture, I love the pose, the back legs look so much more natural. I love they look on the face.

<br>There isn't enough good to be said about this version. And I really loved Magnuses before(Magnuses? Magni? Magnusi? In addition to pronunciation, perhaps a pluralization guide? xD), but this one is just gorgeous. The shading is brilliant, I love textured shading. And it looks so powerful, like it could tear your arm right out of the socket with its pinkie. And those eyes, so lovely.

I own a chibi magnus, and since those aren't getting a redraw, my opinion really doesn't count. But I must say, this redraw is very good. It gives a whole new life to the magnus. It's simply better, cleaner, more detailed artwork. Lovely. It fits in with the style that Subeta is going for in all their pets now (which I adore, btw) and seems to fit in with the chibi magnus more now as well. For a long time I had a common Magnus before I changed him into chibi and... I really don't like this revamp. For being a gargoyle (personally I always thought the magnus was a dragon xD) the coloring looks more shiny than stony, but that could just be me. (the stomach especially looks kinda shiny) though the arms do have a stone feel to it. The wings look a little chunky at the top (no I'm not calling it fat, but doesn't it look a little too thick up there?) but the bottom part looks nice. And I have to agree with Yas the pose does look too similar to the Dilema.

<br>I just... I don't like it. = I want the old one to stay and if the chibi does get redrawn I'll be changing it. I love the chibi Magnus as it is now and I'd be crushed if it were to be revamp.

Yeah, I have to say, I don't think this new magnus looks alive enough. With the old version you can still get the feel like it is a gargoyle (though I never really thought of it as one. <img src=/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif border=0> ) through the cracks along its spine. This one looks like it is made out of solid rock, and once again, I say that is looks fat!! The forearms are to thick and the legs are set too far apart. The pose is fantastic, I must admit! But... The current magnus looks like it is made out of flesh, like it is real... this new one looks like it would shatter if you dinked it with a hammer. T_T

It's impossible to tell how its body is shaped from the side, and I made up what I could on the fly, with what I had for a reference. It's a lot harder to do than you may think when your only reference is seen from the side and covering itself up with its arms.

I agree angelembryo with people saying its "fat." The only reason you think it looks fat is because you seeing the front view. The current Magnus version, the "fat" is indeed hidden, you really can't say the new version is "fat."

Tategami, I'm afraid I don't understand either - why avoid side views? They allow the viewer to see more of the unique details that make a pet what it is. Like the back spikes and cool markings on the Magnus... and on any species, things like overall body structure, tails, wings, etc. show up much better in 3/4 or profile poses. Having the subject face straight forward is too static and boring, especially if EVERY pet (or close to it) ends up drawn that way. Consider real animals - where are all the cool markings and features? The spots on a leopard, the diamonds on a rattlesnake, the spiky ridge on an iguana, etc? They're along the back and sides. The belly/underside is visually the least exciting part of most animals, and if you ask me, the least flattering.
<br>
<br>I'm not saying ALL pets should be drawn in profile; side views can be just as boring as front-facing if overused. I'd just like to see a roughly equal number of pets drawn in profile, 3/4, AND front-facing poses. Variety makes Subeta go round. <img src=/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>

<br>As for all the "fat" comments... I personally don't think it looks fat, but I can see why others do. With the beefed-up forearms hiding where the edges of the belly and torso should be, we really can't tell if its body is as slender as you intended it to look. That together with the chunkier arms, legs, and wing joints could easily make the pet look fatter than it actually is. That's another downside of the front-facing pose - the body structure is hidden.

Its nice to see the Mangus go back to its Gargoyle roots, and with improoved anatomy and a clearer image to boot. I'm still not found of the wings, but then again the Mangus has never had wings with funtioning anatomy, haha, if you haven't guessed, disfunctional anatomy is a pet peeve for me xD But I deffinately find this an BIG improovement...

In this redraw, you can't even see the crack-like markings on the Magnus' back... which, if for one reason only, would be what I'd say is the main draw to the pet... I mean, when you here the name 'Magnus', you general thing lava, or magma... which has the general tendency to make you think volcano, and thus you get the lovely imagery of the cracking markings on the Magnus' back looking like those on an erupting volcano... or at least that what I always got from it. Maybe I'm just weird.

<br>Either way, I think this redraw, overall, would be a bit of a turnoff to the people who got a chance to see what the current Magnus looks like.

I know it isn't *actually* fatter than before... but no matter how many times that fact is pointed out, it still looks that way because of how it's sitting.

I like the look and pose of the old magnus. I believe the older one show off more of the features that make the magnus unique. Such as the spines a log its back, the marking along the spine, arms, and ears. I must say, with the coloring on the new one it’s hard to say no, but if the older pose was just colored in the same fashion it would be twice as good as this version we have here. All in all the magnus is supposed to be gargoyle like. The old pose captures that and it is lost in the new one

I can't remember the last time I saw a slender gargoyle. The whole point of this Magnus is to look like it's made of stone, so yes, the arms are bigger. It's making it look like it's got some weight to it, yet the belly ISN'T fat.

er... yeah. it looks like... fatter now. ;_; the old magnus wasn't as chubby as this one... it'd be perfect, if only it wasnt so chubby-looking. also, from this angle, you can't see the spikes on its back, which i think is an important feature of the magnus that might get lost with this revamp...

Actually, I agree with Yasuragi...this new Magnus reminds me of a Dillema...which makes me sad...It's much too bulky. The pose is nice, but its thick limbs make it seem like a very clumsy creature.

I love the magnus in general, and I think this new one looks very good. The new texture and expression is really nice. However, I slightly dislike the arms. Since all my magnus are female, I don't see the more muscular arms fitting, really, and I enjoyed the slenderness of the old magnus. Just my personal opinion, though I see a few others think the same. I just think the wings and arms seem a little too chubby, maybe. However I do think the art looks very, very good.

The wings are a little bulky as is his body, and for some reason it reminded me of a semi elephant monster in light of this, I think the anatomy even if its a slight bit hefty is an improvement and the coloring is A LOT better. I didn't even know he was supposed to be a gargoyle, and though I sitll think he could be better portrayed as one than this, it is a BIG improvement over the last one. Cheers!

I don't like the new magnus image. The quality of the art is great, in particular I love the new shading, but it is too pudgy. I'd imagine it slightly more fiersome, which the chubbiness hinders. The recent magnus was by far my favorite design. So... thanks, but no thanks. =(

About the Fangs...I LOVE them instead of the old whiskers. If anything, make the fangs bigger but they look great as-is.

Since we can no longer see its back, perhaps similar texture/shading could be applied to the redraw as well? Like on it's arms for example. That would increase the illusion of it being stone even more, in my opinion.

That would also possibly allow a little room for more of those nifty back/tail spikes to be shown...

<br>The coloring and lineart is really great one this, but I'm not crazy about the shape of the body and the head. And I agree with Krissyfur about it looking more masculine. Subeta doesn't have many dangerous looking pets that look like they could be either gender.

I love the new one, but I agree that the wings need to be redrawn. They look clumsy(sp?), and too large to me. Overall I like the new one much better than the old... not so hunchbacked, and the colors and textures are great.

This is gorgeous. I don't see why so many people seem to think it looks "fat".. 0_o; I hardly see that. I mean, yeah, it has chunkier lower arms, but that's just stylization..and it fits in very well with the rest of Subeta's pets.

I like the new magnus, it has better lineart and I adore the texture, but I'm going to have to vote for the old one. The main reason being that I don't like how chubby it looks.

<br>I do agree though that if it was slimmer or had more hard angles as befitting a gargoyle or how I picture a gargoyle at the very least, I would be fine with it.

<br>I also like the longer horns on the old one and i agree to a certain extent that the wings though they could technically bear the weight of the magnus itself now do seem a bit cumbersome.

I really like this new revamp. I think it looks more fem. actually, even though everyone says it looks more masculine. I like the detail of it, and the position better then the old mangus. The only thing I could see is making the arms slimmer so it doesnt look as fat like. Also the legs. I know its ment to be muscular because its a flying gargoyle, but it would give it a better slimmer apperance. Also, the 'veins' for the wings could be a bit thinner too. But its altogether a great improvement on the current one.

<br>BTW: To those of you complaining about it looking like a dillema, the artist that did the dillema also did the revamp picture.

Well if you think about Gargoyles there medievil. Back then in medievil times things were made crudly not ment to be pretty. And if a Magnus is stone you cannot have it thin or it'd break easly under it's own weight.

I personally thought that the only thing the current magnus needed wast o be relined and have some more texture added. Longer horns and slimmer arms/tummy would make me a lot happier personally. It took me a long time to decide between the new and old. There's alot I love about both of them; the texture and the teeth of the new one, but then the sleekness and the larger horns of the older one.
<br>Eventually I decided on the older one. The pose and everything just seems.. Right somehow. I'd like to see the older one with the same kind of texture as the new one.

Maggie is my first pet, and a sun magnus. <_< Even though he's a swampie now 'cos I zapped him. He will be back to a sun magnus whenever he turns back to being a boy.

Sorry for double posting, but natalie makes a point - the new one does look a little too squishy to be a stone gargoyle. If the new look must be kept, some straighter edges and less... roundness in the shading and lines might help fix that.

<br>Also, am I the only one tho thinks the whisker things on the current version look more gargoyle-like than the fangs in the revamp? Lots of animals have plain ol' fangs, but it takes a dragon/gargoyle to pull off the exotic barbel/whisker look. I prefer to leave the teeth to the imagination; protruding fangs on closed mouths always look funny to me. Looks more like walrus tusks than reptilian teeth. :

Tate's art is lovely, but... I'm sorry, I had to vote old. I just liked the Magnus the way it was. : Mainly because I'm a sucker for that sort of aloof, lithe-yet-lanky pose and sidelong glare at the viewer, which Mystic captured so perfectly... but I also loved the markings down its back and tail. I can't see any of that in the new version; even if it was meant to be retained, it's all moot without the side view pose. Besides, I just don't see why the Magnus needed to be changed. It still looks plenty up-to-date with the other art on the site to me.

I've always thought the Magnus was a gargoyle, and this is fantastic. However, would it be possible to make it more muscled, or to at least show some muscle definition? Only slightly because it just looks kind of soft and squooshy. Other than that everything is great, the texture is perfect. Whoever drew it did a great job. <33

Oh....Well, you said to keep the critic constructive. And I would suggest a poll for it. Correct me if there was, but I havn't seen one.. I did not like this version, I preferred the previous version, which made it look more thoughtful. But well...As artwork it is good, don't get me wrong, it just doesn't seem like my Mortiis anymore :p But hey, great work on all the revamps lately.

I got a Magnus the first day I started playing, I always liked them, but as I was able to aford fun colors, the magnus got species changed too. It was cute, but other pets stood out more to me. Now, I LOVE IT! I want to change Vaasha back into a magnus. I LOVE gargoyles and I'm thrilled it looks less like just another dragon and more like a gargoyle. Great job, I can't wait to see new colors for it. <img src=/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_happy.gif border=0>
<br>And with those bright cautious eyes, that curling tail like an agitated cat, and that raised paw like it's about to react to something, how can you suggest it doesn't look very alive? I like it, but I liked the older one better, just because this one makes the Mangus look a little chubby and when I think of dragons/etc I think of a slimmer critter. But that is just me, and the artist made a decent revamp ^^. I like the texture. Good job.

I assume that the fang alteration on the chibi would merely consist of a colouration change, and maybe connecting up the mouth line over the top of the teeth? Hmm... <br>The one thing that I prefer on the old one are the wings. I liked the way they were smaller in proportion to the rest of it, and thin at the base. They looked a lot more stylish and stylised that way. These new wings seem a bit too large and overbearing to me. I expect they're drawn that way because the old wings wouldn't actually function, but... it's made of granite, and the wings are made of granite, so I don't think it's really necessary to make them look like they'd be functional. <img src=/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_happy_sweatdrop.gif border=0>

Eh, I don't like this one as much as the last one. But I do like the fang/whisker transition and I do like the longer wings. =) I guess all I really miss is the side view. =/

It took me a while to decide on this one, but I ended up picking the new one. The speckly shading on the new one is just awesome. My only complaint is that the wings seem a bit.. uneven. On the left, the spines (for lack of a better word) are for the most part the same thickness. But on the other, they are a bit different in thickness. Also, the joint above those spines on the right seems thicker then on the left wing.

<br>Other then that, this is a wonderful redraw. It has much more detail and shape to it, but it still retains the magnus personality. ;o

May I just say that I've never ever liked Magnuses, but this has me tempted? Quite a few things have been subtlely changed. It now has a more stony texture and it has fangs instead of whiskers (which we'd like to really get opinions on).

<br>If the fangs stay, Chibi will not be touched other than to change the whiskers into teeth. That is all, I swear. That pet is far too adorable to lose.
