First off, I must say that the new art on this otter is just gorgeous; it's definitely better than the old one. I do, however, have some critique on anatomy though. As quite a few others have already mentioned, the tail doesn't look like it connects with the body very well. It also looks a bit too long and thin to be of much use to the otter. Maybe a different perspective on the fin might also help? Asides from the tail... I think the front arm could use a little work and the forehead could probably be shrunk down a bit. All that said, I love the addition of the extra spots and those eyes are absolutely stunning. :3

the new version of the otter isn't really the same old Cute Otter as the older one... I got my otter because of the old style and I'd Like to keep it that way really, the new one looks more doglike with that nose and it looks far more longer and the tail is skinnier, to me it's turning into a dog rather than An Otter, the spots is nice though but the front paws seem a bit weird and the fluff.. down there isn't really.... drawing away the attention from it and so On... that's why I vioted for the old Otter Hoping That I can stay An Otter fan.. and Not an Ontra fan

I'm definitely getting an Otter if they get this revamp. 8D The only things that don't look right are the shape of the father back leg, perhaps the back of the thigh could be a little... meatier. (xD) And the tail placement doesn't look quite right... but I love the eyes, and the snout... 'tis so cute!! *adoringstare*

I preferred the pose of the old one. I know this new pose is very similar, but I like how bunched up the old one is. The way his little pudgy arms are right under his little chin. Aaawww! I'm also not a fan of the fur at the base of the left hind leg. It looks a bit out of place and draws attention to... um... that general area. **quickly changes the subject** As for the chest fluff, I'm not that fond of this double row thing. Still, other than those trifling concerns, I think it's pretty awesome. I, for one, welcome the new spots. They make the otter more interesting, they give them a little more style. The head looks great to me, the shading is nice, the fur on the tail flows better... thumbs up and a cheesy grin from me!

I'd give all the critiques I could see but last time I did that I was shunned for it so I won't bother this time x3 It's certainly an improvement from the old one and is pretty cute, but I think there are parts that could be improved, and removed(random spots, wtf?) and I hope that is done before it is updated :3 Overall, good job arteest who drew it~ ♥

looks quite good, but there is something in the face i don't like... it's the shape of the face, i think. and the eyes. most of the revamped pets look at the upper left/right corner of the picture :/ that just looks strange...why isn't it looking at the owner? it just looks so wannabe-cute when they look up like that. and the connection of the body and the tale doesnt' seem to be correct, like someone took a tailless otter, a fake otter tail and glue <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/smiley_xface.gif border=0> as if it's not a part of the otter

I think It's because of the Galactic Otter. I mean, think about it. The Dragon, for example. When I saw the Galactic Dragon, I just knew right away that it was going to be revamped, because the Galactic color was way more advanced than the common colors so they had to revamp it. I think each time a new color for a pet gets released, it is just so much better than the common colors that they have to revamp the pet itself. I agree with Ariel about the face being too low, though. And I don't really know about the spots, it just doesn't look right. I am enjoying Subeta's new style of art. I did enjoy the old pets but the new pets have better shading, expressions, and other details. Kudos to all of the wonderful artists who strive to create wonderful pets & colors that will dazzle the heart & soul! ;D

I love the coloring in this particular revamp, its nice and smooth, with a nice warm and rich feel to it. But I do find that I like some of the charm of the original better, I find that the muzzle is to narrow for this particular animal, along with the forehead being a bit to tall and the tail is a bit to thin. I think the pose is nice but I miss the smooth more circular composition of the original otter, and maybe it is because the tail loops through the otter's legs instead of behind them which would give a bit more depth to the pose. I must say that I do adore the revamps eyes and the addition to other spots upon the body.

I do like the effort that's gone into this revamp, but the new piece of art lost the nice "flow" of the older one. I think if the body (and tail) made more a circle than they do now, that would help a lot--it's difficult to describe exactly what I'm seeing without being able to redline it, and I'm not sure if the artists want me doing that, but. I think the back needs to be more curved, and the tail definitely more curved (and a larger fin would help, too) so that there's more of the "looped" feeling there is in the current art. Hopefully that makes some kind of sense. XD

This revamp is the first one I haven't liked. I, too, feel the forehead looks a bit large, and I don't think it's as cute as the otter. Ah, well. I don't have an otter, so I suppose the outcome doesn't affect me. It's just a pity; the current otter is adorable.

Out of interest, why did they not do a poll on the Swampie revamp? The change is at least as much as between the 2 polled otters. Personally I really dislike the new one and as soon as you revamp the Darkmatter one, I will (proberbly) be remorphing my pet.

The quality is better, but the lining itself doesn't show that. I really like what's happening to the Otter, I just think it can be portrayed better. DesetLai, we're allowed to be picky if our pets which we put a lot of time and sP into are going to be changed into something we don't want. i've already had to give up one pet because the redraw was just awful for me, i don't want to loose my Spectrum Otter as well. DesertLai, sweetheart. You missed a few things. They leave the comments here open to get constructive criticism on the revamp itself. I don't know why in all the world you are so against it, but the artists here want to hear our opinions before revamping a pet. I think it's good, because sometimes, the artist cannot see that he/she made a smaller mistake on their work unless someone kindly points it out. Then, the artist can decide whether he/she wants to fix the small flaw, or keep it the way it is. We do not force the artist to do this or that. At least I believe that the majority refrains from that. The artist decides on her/his own what they want to do with the image in accord to the feedback received.

Well, 'are you guys artistically blind' wasn't very direct. It is a general statement, and you tecnically do not have to be an artist to know when things are off. Many art crittics are not artists themselves. If this site catered to only artists, more than half the population would disappear, despite them knowing a thing or two about what art is about.

Amazing. A revamp I actually really like. The only criticism that I've seen that seems like a big deal to me is how "cramped" it looks, and the expression on the old one was less generic.
I know it's probably not the look you're going for, but you guys should have an artist with a less "cutesy" style that draws some pets. I'd volunteer, but I work by mouse currently.

As an art piece, I think it's wonderful. The shading is done well, the expression is nice, the proportions seem correct, and the colors are vivid and pretty. However, as an otter redraw, I'm not too fond of it. The redraw doesn't quite capture the otters innocent confused look, nor does it look as cuddly as I feel it should. The tail has lost that kind of big, squishy vibe. There's also something about the spots that just isn't working for me. (I do love the new Galactic Otter, though. I'm still sad I missed it.)

I think the old one looked better myself. I loved the eyes and the expression on its face. That, and this new otter looks like it's cramped in some kind of invisible box...the whole left side of its body seems to be hitting a wall that isn't there...^^;

DesetLai, just because everyone doesn't agree with you does not mean we are artistically BLIND. r_r'; Not everyone has the same opinions, and the better part of us are trying to help out and put in our own opinions. I may not put my work in the glitchy galleries, but I know enough about artwork to say that the artist here has potential to make this a good revamp, BUT has major flaws that need to be worked out before this could happen.
That comment about the ones who aren't hopping the a-train over the colouring is rather insulting to some of us who know what they are talking about.

At least those who don't like the redraw pointed out their very considered reasons WHY they don't like it, which is a lot better, IMO, than sayng OMG I love it it's amazing, or OMG I hate it it looks awful, without providing reasons or providing only extremely vague reasoning.

Hmmm...welll.... I don't like it. But then I don't like the old one either. But the new one is too rangy-looking, and the long thin tail with the flipper at the end doesn't work for me. I prefer a rounder look, to me the muzzle is too narrow and protruding and the fur tufts everywhere break up the nice smooth lines. I agree with what another person said, the galactic otter looks better to me... I think it would be cuter in that pose than the current pose, actually. Do not call people artistically blind. Just because you like it because it's updated and pretty, does not mean everyone else is 'blind'. The fact you like it is your opinion. Many of us have given constructive criticism as to why we don't like it as much as you do. I don't care who is or who is not an artist, everyone needs criticism to improve. Plus we're given the option to voice our opinions, and for that I am grateful.

DesetLai - An artistically blind person would actually just pay attention to the pretty coloring and shading and not notice any of the flaws at all ;P I worked at Subeta for over a year, which really helped me point out the good and the bad in a revamp instead of go "OMG PRETTY" at the first sight of one.

(I think that's what you were getting at, hun) the arm is just one uniform thickness from elbow to paw tips... taper a little and give it a little bit of a wrist bend? Amend: It's actually thinner at the elbow than the wrist-like area. use shading to make it set back, not back wards tapering. Even Popeye had muscles below his elbows! XD I think if you give the wrist a little bend and show a little pad you'll cover what the other users wrote before me about the feets? I didn't even notice some of these things earlier, but they've already mostly been pointed out. I think the forehead does look as if it needs to be a bit smaller, or the eyes, perhaps, a little bit bigger. While I think the eyes look fine as they are, I think what PaintedSavages mentioned would give it that cutesy look that several users are so fond of.
The...umm...cheek fluff, I guess you could call it, that is facing the user seems to be a bit too high on the head, compared to the farside one.
The tail, I think, should be more like the old Otter's. The shading gives that 3D illusion, and it looks less stiff compared to this one, which makes it look as though the Ontra is wearing a fake tail. o0
As far as the arm goes, maybe make the line where the 'elbow' is a tad shorter or make it bend its paw? Kinda like how a dog has its front legs when its begging, for lack of a better visual. T_T

Maybe if you made the body a little smaller (okay, a lot) smoothed out the tail and fur, then redid the eyes (spectrum's is a good one) removed the eyebrows, resized the freckles (basically, chibi-ify it again) I'd be content.

I honestly would be very dissapointed if my otter was replaced by this new version- i just dislike it. Its much to.. pointy. i feel like it's not as cute nor as soft and smooth as the old version. i really would like to see this re-vamp redone to be made more like the roundness of the old otter. I don't like how this one has so much fuzz bits either- it just looks to pointy and sharp in my opinion.

Usually I vote new for revamps, but something about this just.. bothers me. : / I have some issues with the anatomy, but people have already covered them and the body doesn't bother me as much as the face- it went from look almost infantlike to looking like an old man. o__O; I like the eyes and smile though.

Also, I'm not quite sure why it would have eyebrows or a shiny head. o.O;; The tail I can understand, but the head shine makes it look bald. ^^;;

Lastly concerning eyes and Im done... try making the lines around the outside of the eye itself twice as thick. Instead of it being the same uniform thickness as the body lines. I find when Im drawing to make the eye lines a little thicker than the rest of the lines and it really makes a HUGE difference and draws the eye (of the looker not the drawing) to it. I don't like the new one either. The old one makes me say 'Aww, how cute' while this new one doesn't. I do agree the tail is too thin. Looks more like a reg (dog?) tail with a flipper stuck on the end of it. A revamp is good, but this one doesn't seem quite it.

I admit this revamp is a bit drastic...and I do think it's eyes are a bit to small...and to me the forehead looks a bit big too...but the revamp does make it fit more into the subeta art style. All in all, it's a cute drawing, and even if I voted new I'd still like to see it drawn a bit better...it doesn't really have the old Otter "spirit" like the other one has.

The crotch fluff makes you focus on the... crotchly area... I dont like that much. The chest fur should be a little softer, and the tail looks like its stuck on, just like the old otter. I think the tail should be an extenstion of the back line, and the tail curl up that way. Cause the tail is a part of the spine, and I dont think it makes a ninty degree ange and pops off the back.

I was making that remark to someone who said something along the lines of "real otters don't have muzzles like that." Real otters also don't have tail flukes, real hippos don't have wings. This revamp seems to have lost all the characteristics of the otter - the big, innocent eyes, the little chubby body, the begging-paws pose... its just... not an otter. Quality-wise it's an improvement, but not for the pet itself. The size of the head got me too when I first saw it - the old one had a big head, but the rest of it was big and chubby so it looked more like it made sense. The tail is also too small and skinny - how is it gonna propel that big-headed otter through the water? The old one had a gigantic tail which looked like it could actually move the otter. Plus otters dont have dog muzzles - it just looks silly with one.

Ooh, it's pretty! *o* I have a DM Otter and love it though, so don't change him. My only complaint is the little mini fur-boobies and that the inside of the elbow looks off. And please don't change the name k? Otra sounds so... different. It's one thing with Kanis and Canis, but it's quite another to scramble the name *that* much! Maybe Ottur? Ottre? I dunno.

Just to add for people saying the tail looks 'stiff.' Tails are stiff. They have bones, they don't just flop in any direction. So that this one isn't curly and curvey or anything really makes it look nice. Hopefully it remains this way.

Overall, I'm for a revamp and I like the maintenance of the original pose; however, I think the revamp should be improved before being set 'out into the world.' Mainly, the angle between the head and shoulder looks awkward, and the legs might look better if they were closer together so the two feet could touch - then there wouldn't be that awkward emptiness between them.

It looks very nice, however the end of its tail seems to be stiff, unlike the old one. Also, otters really don't have that kind of muzzle/facial structure. Just take a look by googling "otter". The two tufts of fur at the top of the chest also seem a bit, urr, odd. It's probably look nicer with one small (or large) chest tuft. I am certainly glad he is in a dynamic pose, though. Lots of the revamps have boring, stiff poses. D=

I do love this revamp a lot better than the original. However there are a few little quirks I have. I think his tail looks a little too stiff, especially the flipper part. It needs to be a bit more fluid and flowy since he is a animal that enjoys the water. His spots are a little to dark and I don't think he really needs the eyebrows but I don't mind them either

I don't like the new one. I never particularly liked the old one, as the tail seems unnaturally long and awkward... but this new one is worse. The extra spots on the face and body make it look like it has a disease. The coloring on the face is too detailed, (which I think is a problem with most of the revamps - having 6 different shades of shadowing instead of the simpleness they had before so now they look like they're trying TOO hard to be realistic).

While the art on this new Otter is a massive improvement, there are a few areas that I'm opposed to. It's head is much too large for the body. I think that if the eyebrows were to be moved downward (they seem too far away from the eyes), it would help drastically. I also miss the expression of surprise in the old otter - it was uniquue because of that. The hind leg facing us also confuses me a bit. The back of the foot is pointed, making it look almost triangular, and a bit like a duck foot. If this was intended, my apologies, but the other foot doesn't appear that way. The hind leg furthest away from us seems thinner than the other, and I think it would help if you made it's 'thigh' slightly larger. It's other hind leg is curved at the thigh, while the other one is much too pointed, almost, making it look thinner than it's other leg. Oh, and I'm loving the boobies. x] I say keep them.
But, like I mentioned earler, the art is a massive improvement, and kudos to the artist who drew it. Lovely work overall. I love the added furriness that the old otter didn't quite have.

The shading and everything is wonderful, but the forehead seems way too big/fluffy, the tummy seems a big chubby to me, and the fur on the chest is a bit...odd. xD I love the expression on the old one, how the mouth is open..I think if it had a few changes it would be awesome

I voted old. This new otter - although beautifully drawn I might add - really doesn't cut it for me. ^^; The paws look very strange, and almost as though the otter is holding them in an uncomfortable position, on the previous one they were more rested. The tail flippers are strangely small and not as 'flowing' as the previous/current otter. I've noticed that this new one doesn't look as...cuddly, as the the other one. The head in particular strikes me as slightly off - it's a little to large, especially at the top of the head where it appears to bulge out. I also miss the little shocked expression the otter has always had.
However, I can also see many improvements. The paws are much more beautiful than before, and the little tufts of fur on the chest are amazing. The eyes, also, look much better and more defined.
Having said that, I'd be sad if the new one went through. If a few changes could be made in reference to the things I pointed out earlier, I'd be much more happy for the otter to be replaced. But, as I said earlier, it's beautiful art - so well done to whoever drew it =)

I voted for the new one, but I'd like to see a few tweaks as well. ^^; The (otter's) left leg seems a bit slim in the thigh area compared to the right leg. Maybe it should be a bit more rounded? And the tail should probably be positioned more flat...ly? The new version makes it look like it has a fish tail instead of say... a dolphin tail. Like it's verical instead of horizontal. i'm voted also for the old version.. i think the older version has more character. Really, the new otter- great work! Its painted really exact and looks professional, but it lost a lot of his charme.. That head could also be a head of any doggything or whatever..=/.. sorry, i'm thinking of that galactic version with the old otter, its really lovely with that face.. would that also be changed?

This is a very hard decision, and I hope my feedback will help with it a lot. I voted for the old otter, despite the fact that this one's art is obviously newer, cleaner, and shinier. There are a lot of 'issues' that I think, if fixed, would make it look fabulous. The tufts of hair on the chest look terribly out of place - they make it look like it has really squashed boobs, heh. The way the fur falls back on the head is nice, but it looks like it has an absolutely GIANT head, and that it's going prematurely bald because of the shiny spots right on the forehead. The muzzle looks a bit narrow, and I'm afraid it'll turn out like the feli, where any open-mouth pose makes it look terribly crowded with teeth. Also, I think it's perhaps just a TAD too bowlegged. Like I said, the art is obviously better, but it seems to lose a lot of things that made the old otter adorable.

It looks much more realistic than the older, more cartoonish one. By giving it a longer body and an actual muzzel, it looks so much better. Plus it has that "Pet-Me-I'm-Adorable" look on its face. The tail is a little off, but overall, it's a definite improvement.

it does have more personality in the expression, kudos on that. I would suggest that the dome of the forehead be reduced and the length of the body be shortened a bit to bring back some of that pudgy cuteness to the pet. It doesn't have to be babyish, but it's gone from toddler to teenager in body shape. The shape of the fluke on the old one was more graceful, so perhaps shorter tail, original flukes. The furry bits work well on the head, elbows and tail, but don't do as well doubled on the chest and between the hind legs.

Generally, I like it. Over all nice anatomy and it's cute. It needs to lose at least one of the fluffs on the chest. The last two pieces of hair on the forehead need to come off and line from the eyebrow ridge should connect to the piece of left. It would still have a cute dome head without looking like it's skull is sticking out to far.

I like this new revamp. One of the few that I think is actually worthy of becoming the new Otter... my only complaint is its tail. On the old one, the fin was larger, and made more since. Logically, the fluke should be larger than the animal's head ^^;

Ohhhh, pretty revamp. I just have a few problems with it though. First off, the face of the original looked more cute. (You know, the wider eyes and the =O expression.) I assume that's what people liked about it the most. Second, the head looks a bit... odd? Someone said that the back looked flat, which I agree with. Third, the fur on its chest. The left cheek seems to sag a bit too much on the revamp in my opinion and the tail looks a bit broken, but other than that it's a lovely revamp for the Otter. ^.^

Yay~ This is very cute. Nice lineart, coloring, everything. Only thing I don't much like about it seems to be the too-cutesy anime style in it, but otherwise it's a gorgeous revamp.
