How to Build Sand Castles


Yup, the site is still going up and down. Believe me, we know! The stability has increased today and yesterday a bit, but that's not enough.

This wednesday we will be taking the site offline for up to two days.

This will be a major overhaul of our current server infrastructure. We will be taking it all apart, and rebuilding it from the ground up.

If this supposedly happened, how did it only take a few minutes of downtime on and off through out the day?? I feel like we keep being promised that the site will be fixed, it will be taken apart, there will be a recode, etc etc etc...And yet, where is that? When has that happened?

"up to two days" Anywhere from a matter of minutes of downtime to up to two days. Subeta.org is my homepage as well, firefox timed out several times, so yes, it taken offline earlier today.

I'm one of the people who have also stopped telling anyone about the site because I'm the one that's going to look like a chump when they email me and say, "Uhm.. you referred me a site that's never online".<br />
Also, I don't put money into this site but I have just as much to say and so does anyone else who has a great time here, when it's actually up.<br />

I'm not upset that the site is going down again. I am extremely grateful for the heads up, as a matter of fact. I think what most are complaining about (and most are being nice about it) is that it keeps happening over and over and over again. We hear every time that the "problem" is fixed but it still keeps happening. These must be the crappiest servers, like, EVER, lol! Which shouldn't be the case b/c Keith said before he got the best he could!<br />
I haven't put any RL money into the site, so I don't have much right to say something. But I also have quit telling people about the site until it is working properly. If someone recommend Subeta to me right now and I had never heard of it - it would be very hard for me to get into it b/c of all the distracting downtime. So it hurts everyone when the site is down. And obvy, they are working on it, but something else must be going on, b/c it KEEPS breaking..... <br />

GA account prices are far cheaper than other sites. I would not even think about complaining about that loss. No biggie. It always gets replaced. However, when I think about the other money amounts spent on monthly DP's and such, I cringe. I'm a grown, old women and should be spanked for spending money on this. Or something. But, I do and I have no one to blame but myself. I only hope that what we have now will be here once you have done what you do or are going to do. If not, so be it. I for one will survive. <br />

It is just the withdrawals that one goes through not being able to play that we really worry about the most. Isn't it? LOL!<br />

That is a bunch of crap. I lost over 4 million np worth of stuff from my vault, during their birthday glitch a few years ago, and they would not replace anything. And lost another few million in items in trades. Here at least they keep you informed and talk to you.

OMG.. more downtime?? This is insane. I haven't been able to get on steadily for I don't know how long. I haven't been spending nearly as much time here.. and this just confirms my feelings. Thanks for the update and letting us know ahead. It has been difficult to know when its down or not. I just tried to post a comment and it went down, so I had to wait yet again. I just hope the revision to the servers won't kick us back meaning reseting things to what we have found now and might lose. Such as the last free gift as an example. I actually found somewhere else to play today and, although I love Subeta, I find the other site just as addictive. I found a post the other day from Dec 2006 where Keith said something along the lines of new servers, lag and downtime will be non-existent. We can see how well that worked. If the downtime only lasts for 2 days I'll be surprised and if it fixes the problems, I'll be gobsmacked. Still, downtime means I can actually do some household chores *sigh*

So, is this the much talked of rewrite? And if not...why not? We've been hearing about a supposed rewrite for months now, and it has yet to happen. Can it just, you know, happen already? Even if the site has to be down longer, in the end it would be worth it just to finally get the damned rewrite done. A whole lot of talking has been done, but not much seems to have been fixed.

Just a question, so forgive me for asking, but, is there perhaps some way to update the site, and do all of that, and not pull it offline each time? I'm sure I have no idea how other sites do it, but I rarely if ever see downtime on their ends. Maybe it's a program, I don't know. But that'd be so wonderful if that were possible. <br />

I'm a gold account user and, while yea it can be frustrating at times when the site is down a whole lot, I don't see why people are getting so upset... There is a lot of information that goes into this site and when you're working with an outdated program (version 4 I believe) it has problems. Besides, it just gives you time to do something outside of the internet. I know it's going to be down the first few days of my spring break, but that's no big deal. It'll give me time to clean my room and play final fantasy 12. If you stop buying gold accounts or donation items etc. then you're really only helping the problem worsen. Servers and all that other stuff aren't exactly cheap. Well that's the end of my rant, good luck with the overhaul and I hope that it doesn't zap too much of your time!

I do not know if Keith is actually going to reply yo this, but I have SEVERAL times contacted a UA over missing stuff and they answer is always the same... the can do nothing about it. I actually USED to spend RL cash on this site, but I have decided against it in fear of losing MORE then I already have. It is not fair that GLITCHES happen and our items can't be replaced like they should. <br />
I hate Neo but if an item is lost in trades or there is a glitch, they at least replace the item for you. <br />

The past down times have been ridiculous since NOTHING seems to be fixed. <br />

I know nothing about nothing when it comes to this kind of thing, I admit. And I am sure it is frustrating to you as well, but, I don't know. It's starting to sound like a broken record, right? Are you joking? This is actually the first time I can get on since yesterday afternoon - which was only a short peek in then!<br />
The site has virtually been down since Tuesday evening and you are just progressing with Trivias, Token Shop items, Recicle Beast, etc. as if nothing was wrong! I'm just glad I came on, noticed the new Trivia AND had time to answer it, I'd have thrown a tantrum had I missed that <br />

and there already have been major on purpose downtimes for installing/fixing those servers over the past 3 months. <br />
Let's just hope, the upgrade/repair is one this time and not the exact opposite as it has been the last couple of times *crosses fingers*<br />

The people who are complaining don't seem to realize that you're going to be trying to fix all the downtime issues the site has been having lately, which I can only see as being a good plan of action. Of course, this downtime means I might actually get some of my important schoolwork finished on time, so I don't have all that much reason to be foaming at the mouth about it. XD

IMO, this has been what was needed for a long time, so the programmers can really get in there and fix things. A difficult decision I'm sure, but a lot easier to take if we get forewarning. I look forward to a better more reliable subeta when I log in next weekend(ish).<br />

FWIW, another site I play set up a temporary board on proboards to publish updates and had a link on the main homepage to get you there. Maybe you or the staff could regularly post on one of the fansites with official updates? Or do something similar? It certainly made waiting much easier.
