i doubt that any 'non-original stories' were made with previous works in mind :s it's not so much the idea itself as how well it's executed.

@Tjulan Spiderling has got an overlay, but it's very subtle. The original Glade Kumos does not have spiders on it.

All petsides have been great yet but... is there any chance for Users without an Overlay? None of the spotlight-pets had the subeta-art at the petside.
