Computer Geek Quests: Shut down!
Melman has saved up enough from years of repairing computers to retire, and has shut down his quests! As a tribute other quest givers have a chance to give special themed items until February 7th!

This is REALLY disappointing and i'm rather upset as well. I loved these quests and I didn't get all of the achievements which bugs the hell out of me. Not to mention I was so close to the next tier. Subeta is getting worse and worse over the years and a lot less fun. I hope they bring back some stuff like this quest eventually. And I also hope they don't retire Drunk Carl anytime soon because i'm quite far away from getting all of the achievements and I don't want to waste my time and SP on something they're just going to take away from us. This site is just getting overall disappointing. It's losing it's fun factor...

I never did his quests, so I'm unaffected by this. But I guess it's sad for those who liked his quests.

When he was the weekend quest he'd give a good pay out. I liked the old quests though. Too bad I haven't been doing them for like a year.

I thought it was Feb 7 as stated and yet he was already decommissioned in his task...

The only thing I wish they would take away is that annoying Calvin Blackmoon. He torments and stresses people out of the constant site is down page. He should only be seen when the site is really offline not cry wolf every 5 minutes. If I had a battle pet I would love to get him as a battle challenger to take my stress out on him XD. Darn character has been tormenting me non stop for over 2 years and nobody can do a darn thing about him.
You can take all the quests down if you want I don't care. They lost all the fun and they aren't challenging anymore. Who cares about being to click a button under the item to go to the shop search. There was nothing wrong with the copy and paste method. There is nothing left of the original subeta that I loved and cared about. The new subeta has no feeling. Things we use to be allowed to do are no longer allowed. Please if you want me to learn to care about the site again fix it how you want it to be and give us all time to adjust. It's not disable friendly anymore.... We come here to get away from real life for awhile not be thrown right back into it....

I wish I had all the achievements for his quests before this was shut down (taken away). That's what I get for not sitting in front of the computer and questing non stop until earned, oh wells

would have much rather seen Drunk Carl go.
but I always end up happy with changes that are made. I think too many people get stuck in a routine...
Looking forward to whatever new feature comes on :)

On the one hand I'm sad about the quest achievements that are now permanently lost to me (but at least I got about half of them).
On the other hand, I'm happy to see him go. Especially with the revamps, poor Melman just didn't really have a place. "Hi, I ask for toys and give out crappy prizes...just like Cynthia. Except she gives out good prizes now. So. Yeah."

It doesn't bother me in the least that these quests are gone. I just think Drunk Carl would have been more logical.

I'm honestly surprised that people actually did his quests enough to be so butt frustrated about this.
As far as I was concerned, I thought no one did his quests because the payout was usually always horrible.
It's nice to see some of these more worthless quest givers go.

2 much of this:
in here.
He's been around for years. A majority really didn't like these quests. I personally stopped doing them because of how annoying they were and I never received any of these crazy sP payouts people keep talking about.
O WELL, MOVE ALONG PPL.

The best part about this quest going away is THIS HAS ALWAYS DROVE ME NUTS.
HI I'M THE COMPUTER GEEK I NEED PARTS FOR MY PC... CAN YOU BRING ME A SOCCER BALL AND A FAIRY PRINCESS DOLL? Like wut... I'm no professional computer builder or nothing, but I'm pretty sure hoping the fairy dolls will fix it and/or beating it with a soccer ball won't yield much success okay. THe fact that he doesn't ask for nor GIVE computery technical things has always annoyed me. Like illogical.
And I do agree that SOME of the Bits and Bytes store is useless.. I mean who needs floppy discs... or a VHS player? But the wires, PC parts, etc are fabulous TC fodder that people do in fact have uses for c:! Plus other quests do ask for all restockables/particular colors and such.
Plus I think the rock bottom prices of wearables would merit a quest a lot more than the small pool of PC related parts or a COMPUTER GEEK asking for toys |D...
Support the change. Also, love the tribute items XD I will hopefully be able to get a nice hoard of some of these before they poof.

Goodbye Melman. I am going to admit I am not sorry to see these quests go, I always had bad luck and just kinda gave up.

I agree with other uses, Carl is the worst quest. Tried some last week to remember why I didn't do his and was reminded again. Should have retired Carl instead.
0
popducK
one last comment. the geek tribute items are making me do the revamped quests when I normally avoid all those like the plague. and so I take back what I usually say about Quentin being the worst quest on the site, I now know that it is Library Quests that is by far the worst. Is it normal to lose 25k on every single item fetch or does Alexander just hate me. Because if it is the latter then the hate is mutual.
0
Life
I'm guessing you realized he was giving good sp payouts and rather than face the bitching when you inevitably nerfed revamped him, you decided to just get rid of it altogether? :/

Are you SERIOUS right now. He was one of my favorites, and I never finished the achievements. This annoys me.

I'm sad to see Geek Quests retired.. They were ones I'd always recommend to users when they asked, "Finished Saggi and Wizard quests.. Any others worth doing?".. Sadly busy offline has meant I've not had much time to quest at all of late but I did get all the achievement tiers for his quests.. Learnt not to dawdle on those when Amy met an unexpected and sudden 'end'..
0
Nezha-Veles
Would've like just a day's notice (hey, the quests retire at midnight), just to be polite. ): I had no desire to complete these quests ever, but I stop playing when sites start to pull stunts like this. There isn't anything wrong with being polite.

HISTORY_377
Well, some warning would have been nice, but what's the use? He's still gone. I now feel that nerds everywhere are underrepresented. Farewell, Melman. You will be missed (at least by me). :(
0

Kind of a dick move. A lot of sorrow could have been avoided if they just gave a little warning last week.

I somehow knew that this would happen but so close before the last Achievement? Bad timing...

Happy Retirement, Melman. Yes, a notice would have been nice. But that's Subeta, right? Now, who needs Bits and Bytes anymore?
0
Adored
I don't understand why this was necessary... Like others, I was waiting for a revamp and actually did plan on completing those achievements. A warning wouldn't have hurt either. Maybe it wouldn't necessarily have allowed too many users to get the achievements in time but some would have been able to scramble and get an achievement or two out of it. Achievements aside, his quest wasn't bad at all. I just don't get the reasoning behind throwing it out completely when it at least benefited some percentage of users.
0
IJskoningin
@cartel I agree with you. I never did his quests so it doesn't affect me one way or the other. I keep hearing people say they were waiting for the revamp. So it takes a little more time the old way but they still get done. I guess I don't understand people using that as a complaint because if they wanted to really do them they would have done them with or without the revamp. (Disclaimer: this is my own opinion. I am not asking people to agree with me. I am just expressing my thoughts like everyone else here. :) )

Since people keep suggesting this, i feel compelled to say, PLEASE DON'T RETIRE MAJOR DRILLS. That is not a bad quest! You have to do more than a couple to be able to judge them. Most times, yes, you get crap (deflated special prizes like the plugs) but fairly regularly, if you're persistent, you get something quite nice. I just got from him a few minutes ago! And it's not like most of them cost a lot of sP. Many are free to do, just take a couple minutes of your time. (Also, i admit, i still need some of the achievements for him, lol.) So let's all go do our MD quests so they don't get retired too, ok?! XD

I'm one of the people who hardly ever did geek quests, except when they were weekend quests, which I thought paid out pretty well.
I'm not angry or overly upset about the quest being retired, but I do feel that part of the problem, the reason there are so many comments complaining about this, is that people were not given any time to digest this or to 'say goodbye' to the quest. People are lacking closure.
I understand not wanting to give a long notice so that everyone on the site would rush to try to complete the achievements thereby inflating prices for quest items etc. But, seriously, even half a days notice so people could do a last quest for lulz and memories would have probably cut a lot of the complaints.
That said, I do appreciate the retirement items being put out, good move. Perhaps you thought the new shiny prizes would be enough to smooth over ruffled feathers? Probably giving at least a days notice would have been a better plan.

lol I think I got the achievements not long after they were released. I always loved to do the Computer Quests. I pretty much had it done how to profit on them.
Let me just say since we're now getting around to just removing quests instead of revamping: Please, remove Carl (I'd say Drills but I'm not too sure on that one). :) In fact, I would have thought of all the quests, those would be the first to be deleted because only like two users did them. I only did them to get the achievements and basically had to hold my nose the entire time. Those, to me, are the worse quests on site.
p.s. Just remove all the quests while you're at it. :P

Seriously, what Speiro said. Y'all usually give us something like 24 hours notice when you're about to end a holiday, and this was a site feature.

if y'all have time to revamp and take away quests all willy nilly i think you would have time to put the nice new search item buttons in with saggi

You could make 300k off him in a good day, 750k on WQ. Too bad so many people say it's good he's gone just cause they never bothered to attempt him. I wish I hadn't logged in today because seeing this ruined my mood.
0

well. had 4 1/2 years but i never did a single one. not like it's a huge loss to anyone. it's only 8 achievements, anyways! 8 new achievements will be out in no time.

cant wait till you revamp saggi so we can only do 5 quests and he pays out 5k more than you spent

of course Geek has to go and we keep crap quests like Quentin that suck no matter how many times you tweak it

@KeithI think the fact that no one here completed his quests enough for the achievements is an easy way to point out that no one did them.
Well, when you said that very few users did his quests and likely didn't complete his quest long enough for the achievements is an easy way to point out that no one did them isn't correct at all. I happened to do his quests and finish them and got the achievements, and there were likely others that did as well.
As for the revamp, I think that what you said about that is true, but still, people wanted to do his quests, if not for the revamp but for the money and possible prizes. With as few quests as we can do and some of the quests being nearly impossible, it was a nice change for the Geek to give out money as well.
Sorry if I said annoyed, but this is the truth.

*face palm* Seriously, this needed to happen. Not going to complain there. Tier or no tier, no one was doing these things anyway (minus the very few of you weirdos out there. Yeah, I said it.) Morostide is going to be sad without his fantasticness. But really, why not a warning? "It's not needed." It doesn't take effort either, really. Does it really matter if a few people get lucky enough to get another achievement because they got a 7 day warning? Why it IS polite is because of how we feel. Do we own the site? No. When it comes down to it, will our word be final? No. Is out our means to bread on our tables? No. However, some have been year a very long time. WE feel like part of the family. To us it's small, and close nit, and we love that about it. It's why we left "them" and came here. Some have children younger than the years spent on this site. After that kind of commitment, after the money some of us have put in.... we just want the respect of it, that's all.
0
Skolletta
:( I'd have liked a warning. The only reason I hadn't finished those achievements already was because of the expected revamp.

Why couldnt it have been Drunk Carl instead? He never gives anything good, even as a weekend quest. And I hardly know of anyone who does his quests.

Some people in these comments are carrying on like Keith & co just pissed in their sandpit.
Guess what?
this isn't your sandpit anyway.
Don't give me any of that 'paying customer' crap either. NO ONE makes you spend real life cash on this site. If you choose to do so, you're buying account upgrades and pretty crap to stick on your little virtual person. Or pet slots. Whatever.
You are not buying a stake in the way the site's run. It's not a donation. It's a purchase. You have no call when it comes to decisions like this.
And for all the cries of "What about new users?? Now they'll never get the achievements!", it's funny how I never see an account younger than 2 years bitching about this stuff.

At first I was a bit annoyed because of the achievements, but then
Well, if more quests ever get retired, I don't think it's going to be Sarah because she's the "poor" counterpart to Saggi for newbies, what leaves us with Drunk Carl - which is always a loss and mostly asks for pirate items anyway (which could eventually get incorporated in other quests). Is DC going to bite the dust too?
Quote by Speiro:
this. I think that's actually what bothered me the most, none of us was expecting this sort of surprise? I mean the retirement of the stock market has been talked about yet it's still there, the retirement of the holiday shop was talked about (yes!) and was a huge slow process (because of other reasons, but still), for those who follow the site's news everyday this just creates a... lack of safety? feeling, on the lack of better words :x Feels like we can't really plan our gaming.I think my biggest issue is that there's been a fairly open dialogue about quest revamps recently -- which has been awesome -- but there was never any hint that there may be quest retirements like this. Removing a site feature is a big enough thing that I think it does warrant some kind of advanced warning, especially if user feedback is already being involved in the revamp process to the extent that it has.

I've been here for three months and this makes me sad :c it feels like the world of Subeta is getting smaller.

Wow, after reading most of these comments, some of you people are so darn rude that it's a real big shame. Even if Subeta gave you all a week or two week in advanced warning, you still wouldn't have been able to get ALL his achievements since you can only do so many quests a day. Most people here (not counting the newer members) had plenty, PLENTY of time to do his quests; some had over 5yrs to get them all done. While I understand there's a lot of achievements out there that keeps people busy, if he was a high priority, then those who really, really wanted all his achievements would have went for them. Instead of being overly rude and complaining, how about many of you learn from this and start doing those important quests since we never know who'll be next to become retired :).
I say happy retirement to ya Geek!

I never even did Melman's Quests even when he was the special quest for the weekend.. and I know I am hardly the only one.. so what if we don't get the acheivments for him now. I didn;t care about them, and there will be new quests and new acheivments... REally those who are freaking out.. there was also no warning about the holiday shop retiring... I didn;t see people flipping out over that.. I HATED The Computer Geek Quests...so...not sorry they retired him...and can I say.. I agree with several other comments... some people need to stop acting like they have a right to be rude and freaking entitled. That's not the same as a calmly stated opinion.

I've got all these achievements done and i hardly ever did his quests, so i'm not personally too bothered by this, but i do think changes this big should be preceded by a warning. I'm pretty concerned now about what else may just suddenly disappear without notice at any time. >_>
Cool tribute items though. I look forward to collecting all of those!

So, Subeta features are "use it or lose it" now, huh? What exactly is the point of this, besides angering those who did do his quests or didn't get a chance to? Not really seeing how cutting a feature improves the site, unless it was somehow using a ton of resources or something.

Personally, I didn't do his quests. I don't even care about the achievements. But I do know that there a PLENTY of other achievements people are working towards. To focus on one at a time can be tiresome and boring. To say, "His quests have been there for years, same with the achievements. If you haven't completed them yet, you weren't going to unless we told you to do them which isn't what achievements are for," isn't a good approach. Yes, most Subeta users have been here for a long time, and should have eventually slowly built themselves up to those quests. Everyone also has other things to do with their time. Yet, they come on here, doing whatever it is they enjoy. I'm sure the most they'd want is a small heads up. The heads up doesn't even have to be so that they may do the quests quickly before they go. It's just a heads up.
Maybe some users liked to do his quests not for the achievement, but just because they liked his quests?
I don't know. Like I said, I never cared about his quests. I just feel that the couple of things Keith posted himself made me sort of tilt my head sideways thinking, "Is this the same Keith from earlier in the day, whom gave a worried user back their totem that got zapped?".
Still love you, Keith.

Oh and another note: Why should people have been warned?
Because I think if users were told retirements of certain features are in the works they can offer ways to make that feature more interesting for the site rather than removing completely. Always nice to have other ideas flowing.

Myself (and others from what I have read) were sick of questing and the new feature ressurected our interest. Yes, in my case this also includes saggi. I do him from time to time ONLY because of the SP (which geek didn't have) but definitely not all the time. When I saw the revamps happening I was super excited that I could finally start earning these "tedious" achievements I've always wanted but never felt the payout was good enough so it was slow going...to the point where since they took so long and were boring I stopped. Again, this is where the revamp would have done a lot of good.
I understand the reason behind removing it if not many users were doing it, but with revamps happening ALL quests should in theory be worth the effort soon enough and since we only can do 10 of each (reg accounts) then it will make doing ALL quests from everyone even more likely.
I would have liked to have seen it revamped and then if it was still dead it could be taken down for that reason. I figured the goal with the revamps were to making questing more fun and appealing, not kill it off if it was never given a chance after a revamp.

Can't say I'm sorry to see him go. Didn't do his quests and quite frankly don't care that I don't have the achievements for it. Would much rather focus my time on achievements that interest me or are ones that we know are only around for a short time, like for holidays. So buh-bye Melman. Not going to miss you.

Bummer. I would have appreciated a warning. No, I usually didn't do his quests, but that's because I don't have time to do everything every day on the site. I did his quests when he was the WSQ, but was working on the other quest achievements first. I was, however, looking forward to the day when he'd get the shop search links on his quest page -- that's a huge time-saver.

I think this was a pretty clever way to get people to do quests and other under-used features of the site. Well played, Subeta... well played.

I've been working toward finishing all the quest achievements for months, and he was the last one I needed. I put off doing his quests (and Cinthia's) because they weren't very profitable and I knew they were going to be revamped soon and would be less of a burden. :| There goes that goal.

As always, with no advise. I would like if @SubetaTeam give an advice everytime something will be retired, like SubQ sets, and more important: quests... They give achievements

Ok so subeta didn't warn us, they made a mistake. There are hundreds of other achievements, I'm sure no one was going to successfully ~collect them all~ anyways. No one is going to like every change, there will always be people against it. Shit happens, we move on.

I gotta say that "giving fair warning" of the quest being retired would have been a baaad idea. People are losing their ever-loving shit right now because it was yanked without warning. Would it have been better if something was said a week or month in advance? Doubt it. The screaming about "OMGGAIZNOTENEOUHTIIIIIME!!!!!11!!1 I HAVE A LIFE YA KNOW!!! NOT COOL YOU SUCK BAAAAAAAWWWWW!!!!!" would have commenced and it would have lasted throughout the duration of the entire warning period and beyond, ad nauseam.
Why prolong the unbearable agony of OMG missing a couple of achievements out of hundreds? They yanked it like a band aid. Now the healing can begin.

Well, this is the incentive I need to get going on those other quest achievements that I've put off. Other than kicking myself for not getting them, I won't miss him. Happy retirement!

there are 44213 "official items" on the site. Not including CW. but this does include items that are not available such as full gift boxes and the totems you receive for anniversaries.

It took me a couple of read throughs, too. Geek Quests are retired and gone, effective immediately. The special items mentioned in the post, though, are what that deadline refers to and will be found through other people's quests until the 7th. :3

I am sad to see the computer geek go since I was working on his achievements, but I left him to the last just because I found his quests soooo boring. oh well some achievements I just can't get now. My own fault. However, I do agree a little bit of warning would have been nice.
I am looking forward to the tribute items though and other things that may be coming our way.

This really kind of makes me sad.
I actually think that the Geek gave out the best SP after Saggi, so I'm disappointed to see him go.
(And yes, I do have the achievements, and blew well past the top tier.)

If there is a good reason to do away with it.. .like say, people having 45,000 different items in a shop causes a stain on the servers... then yes, you should accept the fact that you had ample opportunity to get the achievement, and the reason you aren't able to now is because Subeta as a site needs to change in order to grow and becomes a better, more stable site.
amusing. Since there is not that many items available on the site unless you include Cw.

Pets should not ever be retired, nor should the pet NPC's be turned into humans. Almost every pet that wins the spotlight is a furry of some kind so yes, they have a place here.
As for this guys quest, I can't say that I'll miss it. His items are nice too but none that I'm willing to suffer for, same goes for the achievements. See ya dude

I always liked him on WSQ and was eagerly awaiting his revamp, so I'm rather sad to see him go. I think a month's advance warning would have been kinder, even if most people wouldn't be able to finish their achievements completely.
Anyway, this is a wake-up call to stop putting off Major(ly Boring) Drills quests. And Minion Feeding. And get the last few cards for my Trading Card collection. Won't be surprised if those latter two in particular bite the dust this year.

I don't see how taking away the computer geek quests combats "boredom" or "improves" the site. Unlike say, drunk carl I've never seen anyone that particularly hated the computer geek or wanted him to be done away with.
Does taking this feature away from the 5% of us who use it improve the game for the other 95% in any way? I doubt this was a big drain on subeta's resources or anything.

Everyone needs to calm the hell down, ya lot of whiney losers..
Maybe subeta will have something else in store...?Either way Im glad to see him go. I personally think a few pet species should be done away with too.
But I do agree, a weeks notice would have been a smarter move Subeta.

I still think you're misunderstanding me. I care about the achievements, but not enough to bitch and moan about it. That's just stupid. It was just when other comments were made like how we don't care about his quests and why we should have gotten them by now that cause me to point out how that's not necessarily true. It's the principle that matters to me, the fact that excuses are being made to justify not giving a warning when they always give us advance notice when stuff is about to change that bothers me.That's my opinion, I expressed it and you might not feel the same way but that's ok. If you really want to keep discussing this matter with me, then feel free to comment or smail me as I fear we are flooding this board and possibly in danger of straying off topic.
On a side note, the addition of quests having the chance of giving out new items is a nice gesture.

okay so its fine he's retiring but what what WHAT is this? Achivement page already says retired? why so if we have til the 7th? Why should I waste time trying to add a few more to my numbers (and grabbing at least 2 more levels of achievements for me) when they are "retired"? @Keith

He could have been changed to ask for items from Home Appliances, Bits and Bytes and Trading Card Center, and even Get Mugged! and Quick Bites. They would have been appropriate and the items in the first two shops are completely useless and need an outlet to get them out of the economy anyway. I don't see how he was redundant at all, even if other quests very occasionally ask for those items.
I've started doing quests again now that they've been updated and doing them isn't like pulling teeth anymore. I'd have done his too if he had been brought into the new system. I don't do Saggitarius's quest either for the same reason. Wait, no, I did it yesterday just to check it out after a long time, and the old system still sucks enough that I'll probably still avoid it.
If you wanted to get rid of quests no one likes, why are Drunk Carl and Drills still around?

lolwut, "paying customers"? I've been a Subeta user for over 8 years, never payed for absolutely anything with real money (which I totally would, if I had the means to). It's 100% optional to pay for anything. So I have no idea what you're talking about.
If Subeta stayed the same for years and years or even shut down, I think that would come a lot closer to Keith not caring about the users. I don't see how making changes in an attempt to improve the website is NOT caring.

@TAFFYSM "I just feel like Subeta (Keith and other decision makers) are taking away all the reasons I am on Subeta."
Me too. I wonder if the outrage about this would be less if it weren't coming on the tail of other huge changes. It seems like we're not giving any time to adjust to one big change before another one is thrown at us, and apparently, there are more to come... too much change can, in fact, be a BAD thing.

I love how one move erases all the positive sentiment about how so many of the quests were being changed for the better, with payouts that actually mattered and listening to user feedback and stuff. Meh....sorry to see the geek go, but I wasn't doing his quests and I'm just not feeling the apparent outrage that others are. The tribute items are seriously cute tho! Can't wait to get my hands on a few of them.

@RedCalypso Keith doesn't care about his customers, because he looked at his user data, saw that very few of us did these quests, and decided to do away with it? I don't really think that is a fair statement. In fact, I think that's a total overreaction.

"If getting the achievements was important to you, why didn't you do them already? If they weren't, then why complain about no longer having the opportunity? "
Just wondering something.. I have spent YEARS working on the hoarder achievement and spent RL money on cash shop items and GA for extra quests. Going by your opinion here I should just suck it up and deal with it when Keith cancels that too? I mean I have had years to work on it.
I have all the quest achievements already except Battle (Poky has to cancel a lot). The quest ones are the easiest to get even though time consuming. I just feel like Subeta (Keith and other decision makers) are taking away all the reasons I am on Subeta. It is supposed to be my happy place.

@Wesker I completely understand that people have lives... I too have had to take my time to get certain achievements. I am still working on Battle Quests because they bore me, and I ONLY do them to get the achievement. And if Battle Quests were retired tomorrow I'd miss the achievement and be bummed but at the same time, I'd understand that the only person I should blame is myself... because there are days like today that I haven't even bothered to do one, let alone all of them.
The fact remains that this is an achievement that anyone that has played for a year or longer should have been able to get with ease, if they cared. Some of you just need to take a little more responsibility for not getting the achievement rather than bitch and moan about how Keith has made a mistake by not warning you.

I used to play daily years ago, and I took I hiatus for a few years. Now that I'm older, I've come back determined to complete goals and achievements and such. So here's a new-old user saying that I'm slightly disappointed that that was no warning. :/ Oh well though, time to get those tribute items!

@JESSYTA
Very true, but consider how many other achievements are out there and how some literally take months to get, even if a user plays every single day. Some achievements like deleting an either can take years if someone just can't make the sP quickly. It's not that nobody cares or forgot about them, it's that they are one of many to do. People also have lives and can't play on subeta all day. You know, some stuff just happens in real life and you have to take a break, it's not that you don't care. It's a matter of priorities.
And again, yes it sucks no achievement, whatever. It's just common courtesy to give a warning, even if it's just a day before you're going to make a site change that affects the user base. We get warnings when there are other site changes, how is this any different? Everyone may not be doing his quests, but some people do like him. Heck I liked him, he gave a decent payout. If there was a note in this announcement saying "sorry we didn't give sooner notice before doing this" I would be happy with that, but the fact that Keith's giving excuses that don't even justify actions instead of just admitting they made a small mistake is not right. "Hey guys, didn't realize this would be such a big deal to some users, we're sorry but we had to get rid of him" would have been fine.

I'm rarely the type of person to rock the boat but after reading this page I have a couple of things to say:
#1 Subeta is a community and therefore people have a right to voice their opinion BUT, while some people manage to complain in an understandable manner, others are way too impolite (completely rude, even). I've read some comments here where people speak to Keith as if they're so entitled, as if nothing on Subeta should change without their permission. Uh, hello? He's the OWNER of the site. Have some more respect and be a bit more humble.
#2 As someone already pointed out, if nothing ever changed the site would become boring. These changes are made taking into account the MAJORITY of users. Like Keith said, less than 5% of users were doing Geek's quests.
PS: To whoever had the nerve to say people weren't doing Geek's quests because there was no Search Shops link: I'm guessing you can't be bothered with Saggitarius either? Oh, that's right, Saggitarius gives lots of sP.
@ForsakenLykaios : you must not do Drill Quests very often/have really bad luck. He has given me items worth over 5mil.

Okay, so what I don't get is why they don't take away the Drill quests. No one seems to like them because they don't give like hardly anything.
Why did Subeta Team deduct the amount of quests we can do, and then shortly after, take an entire quest member away? Either one or the other Subeta Team! If you are going to take any away, take away the Drill Quests.
And Why was there no warning of this change? I mean, in a way there was with them saying the quests will be reduced, but my gawd! I didn't think they'd moreless kill off one of the quest members.

What flux was originally pissed about and from what I'm seeing in the comments a lot of the other veterans that are complaining, including myself, is that this was all done without giving a warning. I was literally in the middle of his quests when it went down. I thought it was getting revamped and then saw this announcement. Subeta warns us when items retire, when shops close, when discounts are ending, etc but they can't warn us for something like a quest shutting down forever? Yeah achievements retire all the time, oh well. The fact that the staff couldn't even take a few days time to warn us about a change that obviously is affecting some of the user base is uncalled for. I can't say for sure for the others, but all I'm asking for is some consideration.

Yes his quest has been around for year, but there are also close to if not more than 2,000 other achievements on the site people are working for. Just because we haven't gotten all of his achievements yet doesn't mean we don't care to do his quests and get the achievement, it's because we're hustling to try and get as many different achievements as possible before the retire. Some achievements literally take months to get even if a user works every single day to get them so I find the answer of "well you guys don't care about his achievements if you waited this long" unacceptable and invalid.
Quote:
This, basically. If achievements are for 'doing things you would normally do anyway' then they serve no purpose. Also I am PRETTY sure that nobody is just deleting Ethers for the fun of it. There is plenty of stupid and boring crap we do on this site solely for achievements, so if that wasn't your design when you implemented achievements, then you implemented them wrong,
Quote:
These. Agreed 1000%. I think Subeta needs to learn the difference between achievements (things that are ACHIEVEable and on-going) and trophies (special event, one-time deals). What I also don't understand is, you guys give us warnings when items retire, when special shops close, etc but you can't give a warning for quests shutting down?
On that note, it is kinda silly to get an achievement and a trophy for doing the same thing; that's further proof Subeta doesn't know the difference.
And I don't think users should just be expected to suck up any change thrown at us. We have a right to opinions and emotions.

Then again, honestly I deserve it because I had 8 and a half years to do the stupid quests :P

Now look, I'm not (too) bothered about missing out on the achievement, but why do people keep claiming that changes like this keep things interesting?
Like, removing site features so now are are achievements you'll never get? Yeah I'm on the edge of my fucking seat here.

^Just got that from a Cinthia quest- I assume it's one of his tribute items? ^-^ Cute! I'm curious to see what the other items are.
I didn't even nearly complete his achievements but I'm not much of an achievement collector anyway. So I'm not really sad to see him go; he was nice as a weekend quest but too tedious for me to do regularly personally.

Is this the start of getting rid of quests all together, because if it is... I'm really unhappy.

Wait. You are going to quit Subeta because some achievements are retired unexpectedly? That seems a little melodramatic, honestly.
0
IngiVamp
I am sad to see him go, an entire quest, i am really sad because the number of quests have been trimmed, and now you cut a whole quest. Not to mention that they give less and less sp, or good items, like the wizard, he used to give us around 20 tokens, now is less, and no item or sp. It is harder for us to make sp and just enjoy subeta life. :( i am really sad. I think the quest should go up at 30 again, 15 is far too less.

No! I'm not done with the achievements! I was trying for Cursed Quests! I don't like this! You really ought to give us warnings before this. I hate your achievement system more and more by the day when you keep doing stuff like this!

To be fair, there are tons of achievements new users have no hope getting. No new users are going to make the achievement high scores. To me, this just another retired achievement.

I really don't think its a big deal. If they don't make changes the site just gets boring! This will get everyone on their toes to start working on achievements they've been ignoring. If less than 5% of active users were doing his quests to begin with, then why are there so many angry people? If they revamped them people would have done quests for the first three days, and then forgot about them forever (again).
I support the changes...keeping me on my toes. I don't like being bored. :)

It bugs me that the special themed items started mid-day, after I had finished the majority of my quests. I hope that something new and profitable will be introduced to the game to take his place :)

JESSYTA - I'm not one of the ones talking about achievements, just his quests in general. They paid well. They were easy to do. It's a shame that the site had to get rid of something so good...

This is really disappointing. I did do his quests regularly because he gave out decent sp. :( Nothing wrong with being redundant about that IMO.

That makes me sad.... The amount of quests that we can do has been cut, and now an entire quest now got cut? I'm a quester and I find this horribly depressing.
I couldn't agree more. I was so unhappy that quests were made where you could only do 10 or 15 a day per quest. I think it should've been at LEAST 20 and 30 for each quest no matter what. 15 is just so low...I may not have time to quest always, but I was super shocked at that super low change. Now Geek's gone for good and it's just getting worse.
Changes may be happening, but they don't seem to be positive, good changes at all

@Keith "I think the fact that no one here completed his quests enough for the achievements is an easy way to point out that no one did them." :) I am someone.
I have done the Computer Quests for a long time. I had also recommended them to other users as a good source of SP. I am sorry for all the users that will not get the achievement, but things do change, and I look forward to something new to do on Subeta.

I was starting to enjoy his quests (recently started doing them again to work on the achievements). They weren't half bad, and I was able to make some nice sP off of them. Pretty pissed that they're being taken away, without warning and without my achievement tiers completed.
And what's this B.S. about achievements being for things you would do anyway? HAHAHAHA.

This made me LOL. In retrospect, I now really super-wish I did them too. But there's hundreds and hundreds of other achievements. And if they were all available forever it wouldn't be much of an achievement to have a lot of them. They come and they go and sometimes they retire. It's called a "challenge."
If a feature isn't used, we are going to remove it, regardless of how many people really super wish they'd been able to get an achievement that has been there for years .

I don't really get why he was removed. The bulk of what people seemed to be asking for was to have him to ask for comp stuff because the other quests don't really ask for them. Not ax him completely :( He had a good pay out sucks to see him go.

KEITH...the only reason people were not doing his quests is because we had to do the quests old style
it is the best quest out there, but i wanna use the search links instead of always copy pasting it..wich can take up to hour - 2 hours to finish his quests. :(

I understand what you're saying and that the site is continually changing and of course achievements retire all the time, but what I can't understand is how you guys can just suddenly make a change like this that is upsetting some users including myself without giving a warning. I was about 100 quests away from getting the 500 quests achievement so if you had given 7 days notice and I did all 20 quests, regardless of how much I spent, that's 140 quests and I'm sure there are others that were close like me. Giving us a warning would have encouraged us to do them if we really wanted the achievements and would it be so terrible to increase the number we could do a day for a few days just to try? What I also don't understand is, you guys give us warnings when items retire, when special shops close, etc but you can't give a warning for quests shutting down?

This, basically. If achievements are for 'doing things you would normally do anyway' then they serve no purpose. Also I am PRETTY sure that nobody is just deleting Ethers for the fun of it. There is plenty of stupid and boring shit we do on this site solely for achievements, so if that wasn't your design when you implemented achievements, then you implemented them wrong,Then why add achievements to quests, if thats not what its for/about
I stopped achievement hunting long ago because of things like this. The frustration is not worth the reward.

i bet that if he was revamped most still wouldnt do his quests - its just that now that they cannot do it anymore all of a sudden he gets important ??? i dont get it to be honest
few years ago we had the same drama with the legacy achievements - i missed alot of those too -
if subeta does not make changes and leaves everything like it is - they get complaints that it is "getting boring" to do the same over and over again
if subeta does something new: they get all the complaints that every change is too soon - to quick - not announced
*sighs* some seem to forget its only some pixels, a virtual world to relax a bit
what if tomorrow the site would just go off line ??? a site can be taken down just as it is !!!! in a finger click

Ahahahhahahahahaha wooooooooooow.
For the record, some of us only do a small amount to cover over time because it's usually nothing more than a loss and we can't really afford it, as we are working towards many other sp heavy things. So the fact we could work towards it over a longer coarse of time was great. But who really cares, right ?

Flux - You can choose to take it however you want. Very few users were doing these quests, they didn't make sense in the scheme of the quests in general and there was no immediate way to change them that would make sense / still be profitable or useful for users. We removed a feature that very few (< 5% of) active users used, and the achievements were retired with that feature. I'm not being insulting, I'm using the data that we've got available. Unfortunately we can't account for "waiting for quest to be revamped with a feature that was released a few months ago" as a method for determining how popular features are, or where they fit in.
If we'd given a weeks notice, most people wouldn't have been able to get much further in their achievements. The site is going to continue changing, there are going to be achievements that you can't get, etc. I'm not calling you (or anyone) lazy, just saying that the site is going to continue to change. If a feature isn't used, we are going to remove it, regardless of how many people really super wish they'd been able to get an achievement that has been there for years :).

That's what the Bits and Bytes store was for I thought? Why couldn't've you had him ask for items from that shop to make that shop useful for something? Geek could easily have been revamped to ask for items solely from that shop. It's a pretty useless shop otherwise.
0
Thomas
To be honest I'm really not surprised or bothered that Geek quests were closed down. There are way too many quests to guarantee there's a USP for each; there's just too much overlap between them imo. And it's not the first time a quest has been closed down either.
0
Carpathia
Since he's a geek, and has shown that as well, you could have also expanded it so that he asked for collectibles, like cards, stickers, plushies, and beanbags.
0
Natasha
He gave out good SP sometimes, I did the quests often... Have all the achieves, in fact. But on the other hand I can see why staff thought him redundant. I do think that some warning could have been given.
0
FLUX
This is beginning to get insulting. Essentially, you are saying that you closed these quests down because the whole user base is just lazy. People didn;t do the quests beforehand because there were more popular quests that gave better payouts, were new users or simply didn't like questing. But there were obviously people who did like these quests, and there were LOTS of people waiting for the revamp to complete his achievements. Perhaps it should have been mentioned a while ago that there was the possibility of achievements being retired, even if you didn't direct us to which quest it was going to be.

0
Wolf_Spirit
Geek always gave nice sP rewards out. I don't know how many users knew that, but...if there was ONE quest that had to go it would be Drunk Carl. Geek was just awesome

I'm not sure what I think of all these changes lately. It's a bit too much I think, so maybe you guys can slow down on changes for at least a little while so people can actually get used to them or something :(

@Keith, this sucks. You want to close quests down, fine. How about giving people really trying to finish the quests a little courtesy? Is that so much to ask? The suggestion of upping the quest limit and giving say a month's warning is a good one. Right now I'm about ready to quit quests entirely. What's the point if you're going to jerk the rug out from us willynilly?

I mean I totally get that achievement-collectors are bummed, but I've seen it stated several times that the subeta team is striving to make this site all about a story/user interaction rather than just a do quest->get achievement->repeat forever kinda site, you know? So while I get why some people are upset I think it's sorta adding to what makes subeta cool, you know??? idkdi idk I'm shutting up now I don't even know what I'm saying //sigh

FLUX - And before the shop links were added a few months ago, what were people waiting for then?
0
Keith
And, he was shut down because very few users did his quests daily and we couldn't find a way to revamp him in a way that made sense. If he asked for computer parts they'd inflate because that is a super small pool of items, and it wouldn't have been worth it a week after a revamp. Right now he is asking for the same items that many other quests are asking for, and just didn't make sense in any sense.
I think the fact that no one here completed his quests enough for the achievements is an easy way to point out that no one did them.

His quests have been there for years, same with the achievements. If you haven't completed them yet, you weren't going to unless we told you to do them which isn't what achievements are for. Take this as a warning, there are likely to be more features shut down / folded into other features / achievements retired in the near future.

Keith- there was really no reason to shut his quests down. This wasn't like the plot where he dies or something. I, like apparently many others, were just waiting for the quest revamp as the old style was more annoying to complete.
It's not like I did zero of his quests... Idk, this just totally rubs me the wrong way and makes me not trust any of the tiered stuff on site if it can just disappear like that without logic or warning.

Seriously? With the others on this on how it would have been nice to receive a warning, especially when achievements are involved. It would have been nice if there was an increase to do like 40 quests a day a week before the quest was shut down and an announcement in the news so that users going for achievements still had a chance. Instead we got the rug pulled out from underneath us...
