Dillema update! And a Darkonite poll...
Giant plush pets are sure to get a little worn over the years with all those hugs and using them as trampolines, but restoring them isn\'t too difficult a task! The dillema has received a full species rejuvenation, and is also now available in nuclear!
The darkonite, however, absolutely hates being cleaned up in any way. But this may be its time! Please come and vote in our poll and let us know what you think about the darkonite\'s new look!

I'm happy about this revamp for the Darkonite but I agree that the tails need to be moved and that it needs to be less rounded or at least not demure, as others have put it.

I took a swing at a touch up.
I thinned the legs a little, pointed the horns, sharpened the muzzle and nose, smoothed the helmet to eyebrow transition between the eyes and made the horns on the side of the face less abrupt, and redrew the tails doing up. I feel those few changes would really perk the redraw up. ^^ What do you guys think?

The new Darkonite is a huge improvement - I do agree, though, that the tails should be raised. Gives more character, and also with the tails down,they are lost among the legs, since the coloring is similar. With the tails raised they'd be much more visible.
Also, I agree with another post where it said the Darkonite revamp is too round/curvy. Definitely would benefit from a more angular, sharper edged look. The back end is pretty rounded, it actually makes the Darkonite look anxious, wary. If there's one thing the old Darkonite had going, it was that it had a sort of energy to it. This one seems like it's ready to back away, changes the mood a bit.

The Darkonite has always been one of my favorite pets, and I am quite pleased with this newest pass at a revision. I wouldn't call it perfect, but it's certainly much better quality than the current graphic and I could live with this change if it were implemented as-is. As others have said, my number one concern is the downward tails. Simply making the tails flow upward would make this graphic just about perfect in my opinion. Another thing others have said is that is looks shy, or cutesie. I'm afraid I cannot agree with this. I think the artist did a great job with the expression, I would not object to adding a little bit more of a grimace, but I think the somewhat passive-aggressive body language and unreadable expression it has going on is the perfect cover-up for all the dark thoughts that must be going on inside it's plotting little head. Speaking of it's head, I must say I support that the artist chose to thicken it's ear spikes. Helps quite a lot in making it's head look less bulbous, and the cracked texture is just divine. In fact, the texture throughout the graphic is a huge improvement from the current one as well as any of the past revisions. May favorite things are the boney plates, they look fantastically smooth and sharp, while the belly has a very dull shine to it, which I also love. It makes the belly look more natural, rather than metallic and strange as other revamps have attempted to do. I think every part of the Darkonite fits together fantastically in this revamp. Nothing seems out of place about it, this is a real, solidly put-together animal we have here. Just edit those tails and we'll have a winner! Thank you, artists.

I think the new darkonite looks very gentle. Which I don't have a problem with, becase as far as I am concerned - the old one can take a flying leap. HOWEVER ... I dont think thats the goal. OH WELL. I think part of the change in emotion is that the new one is being designed with soft curves in mind. His hips are soft and rounded and his spades are soft and rounded. His spikes are soft, his... horns? Are the closest thing he really has to having a point, and they're still much more round than the others.
I'm not entirely sure who is working on the darkonite at this point, but hopefully it makes sense to you for me to say maybe it would help to think about the darkonite in triangles instead of circles. Like - take a look at the lion king. Mufasa is all rounded edges and scar is all sorts of angular. Right now this darkonite is like the benevolent king and the old one was the scheming usurper.

Ah, no. I really hate to critique from this side of the red icon, but the darkonite is not nearly the same species anymore, and it's entirely in the body language and expression. It looks very demure now, which is not anything I'd ever expect from a darkonite. I would suggest either a completely neutral posture/expression or else keep the emotion it has, personally. This may be salvageable just by narrowing the eyes and moving the tails, actually. It looks so very wide-eyed right now, like it is smiling with its eyes. I'd be curious to see it with just those two changes, but alas I am on this side of the staff line now! Boooooooo

Why can't you just make a "rejuvenation" to the Darkonite as you did with the Kumos and Dillema? All of the other revamp options you showed us before have been totally different pets that take the Darko's personality away, and this is no different.

I agree with much of what's been said already (tails in front of the body, the way the neck is craned, the changed expression). I also think the bulging skin around the cheek spikes is weird, like it's too much detail for such a small feature.
I didn't have a major problem with the hooves as they are, but I do love the smaller hooves inHoleWeet's version. The smaller size makes them look less like horse hooves and more goat-like or demonic, which I think is more suitable for the Darkonite.

I hate to sound mean, but...can you guys please revamp the Darkonite already and stop proposing revamp polls? There are other species that need to be revamped just as badly as the Darkonite, yet we continue to focus on the Darkonite revamp. Revamp the Darkonite, then move on to another species that needs it.

The darko's right hind leg is gigantic, but other than that I like it. If I were to pick another thing to complain about it'd be that it seems to have lost some sass - this one's just smiling nicely, a little more of the old anger would be nice to see. But yeah wicked style and shading and stuff, looks waaay better than the last revamp proposition

I like the fact the new Darkonite has kept a sense of mischief in his/her face, but I do agree with the comments about the tail - I think an 'up' tail is more in-keeping with the critter's personality. Scruffy and proud!

The darkonite revamp is not bad, but the tail could be raised, the head could crack a bit more and show the brain a bit, and a more devious expression could be shown. I'm fine with the smiling on the glade darkonite, but not the original.

Glad my Darkonite's a Glade and not likely to be affected by the changes, though I'm saving the art to Photobucket just in case. This new one looks way too docile and happy. The tails are lost against the leg, it has no brains, and the upturned mouth is wrong for a zapper-created pet with an evil reputation.

The remake has some major issues with the pose and silhouette that the original pulled off better. Most notable are the tails, which can be a great element to the rest of the compact body, but in the new version they are clumped together and the way they are positioned on the back leg makes the leg look fat an indefinite in volume in silhouette. Overall the pose looks a bland and lacks character, and the side perspective forces the body parts to be clumped together.
The overall rendering is fine, though I would add a bit more contrast with the shading. The overall look of the bone colored parts is great. Also a nit picky thing, I don't like how where the spikes meet the side of the face are super highlighted into circle/sockets.

Maybe I'm just used to a smiling Darkonite because mine is Graveyard (At least it looks like it's smiling to me in GY), but the expression doesn't really bother me as much as others. I know I do not like the pulled in tail. C'mon, that's a sign of submission with animals! And Darkonites are in now way submissive (unless you write your pet that way, like I did with mine :P)
As for the art as art, I love the shading and detailing! It's a definite improvement over the last proposed design.
So all in all, I'm pretty torn on whether to vote yay or nay.

Better than last one, still not quite getting the "look". It looks too docile and boring. Sure, it's artistically far superior but we are talking about a pet, for some people they have personality, not just a pretty image. Also, why hide the tail (mess of a red-black) and what happened with its legs/paws? Sorry, still prefer the original, with it's annoyed stare.

Still not on board with the darkonite revamp. I think my main issue is the pose change, as we can't see the brain bit anymore. I also liked the tails being up, as you can see them better, as well as the legs. And the grumpy facial expression.
As for the dillema, the revamp is subtle, but nicely done. Extra shading/coloring, plumper right arm, and bigger left eye are very good. But the best are the pins on the head. Now you know that they are pins!

Why are the tails down? Seriously, was that a huge complaint last time? I loved the tails being up, they've always been up, why change that? Are you trying to hide the legs for some reason? The other problem is, most pets do a pretty good filling up the square they're drawn in and with the tails down, there's a huge void in the image and don't tell me there isn't enough room for them because clearly, there is.
I'm also having a problem with how neutral it looks, even, dare I say, passive. Before, it had attitude, it looked angry and as a pet you can only get via zapping, I think it should stay angry. Hooboy, and I just noticed that hip... I know I said before that it seemed to go to no where and people complained about that but now it looks kind of crammed in there, and with this pose, a straighter line would have worked better. Everything else, however, I'm pretty okay with. I'm glad to see the dark marking, the black eyes and the big tails back and that it's not as sleek as before. Paws look a little small, especially when you compare it to the Hikei's--
--limbs that it apparently switched with the Darkonite at birth. (Seriously, was there a canon reason for this or an in-joke of some kind?)

The original darkonite was an ugly scraggly ragamuffin... but I think that's why certain people liked them. The new revamp is very nice although I think tail up really would add some flair and more of the original personality.
And as always, this is what overlays are for. Most people change their pets from the original anyways (at least in some way) so it doesn't really matter much... Subeta isn't like a lot of other sites that keep you stuck with whatever art they want to throw at your computer screen. We have the freedom to COMPLETELY alter our pets beyond the point of recognition if we so choose, which I believe, is invaluable and a great example of the respect subeta gives us as users. Not only in our opinions, but also in our creativity.

Just because other items are being redrawn and tons of site changes are taking place, some things don't need to be "fixed". It's a Darkonite. To me that says it's dark (of course), possibly angry (or disgruntled, as another player said), with a touch of wickedness/evil among other characteristics. I rather like the old one....while the new one (to me) presents an impression of being nice.

I like the coloring of the new Darkonite, but I wish its tails went upward. It's also missing the old one's characteristic smirk/disgruntled look. Something about it's underbelly armor seems weird to me as well. It kind of looks like it's just sitting on top on the belly instead of being part of it.

SOOO MUCH BETTER THAN THE LAST ATTEMPT. Great job, guys! My only nit-pick this time is that I think the tails would look better UP instead of down. Tails up evokes more confidence, and it would help them not blend in with the legs so much. Otherwise, I am totally happy with this update!

I really like this Darkonite, IMHO it is waaaay better than the last revamp attempt. :) It does look a bit less feisty, probably because the tail is lowered, but I still like it.

i really love the new darkonite. it retains the whole air of 'not sure if i'm going to be an ass or if i'm going to be sweet, but either way i'll keep you guessing' that i'd expect a cat to have. as a big darko fan, this revamp certainly pleases the heck out of me.

Ahh, one other thing. The flame marking on its belly seems to have disappeared in the new one and the ones on its tails are way more noticeable. Honestly, I think the marking on the tails is making them blend in with the leg behind it and they'd pop more if the markings were removed. On the other hand, the missing markings on the belly might make it look a little less boring. Right now my eyes are being drawn to the edges of the image due to how much more busy they are than the centre, rather than the pet as a whole. Just nitpicking though, I'm pretty happy with it as is.

The Darkonite is my all-time favorite pet, and I think that this revamp is perfectly in line with the "Special" colors that already feature the thicker body type and the lack of "brainy" bits. The artwork is fantastic, no argument there...
But... that said, I would not be inspired to adopt any "basic" color Darkonites with this look.
The body and face now resembles my sister's Miniature Poodle. Her extremely fat, spoiled, complacent, miniature poodle.
That's what bothers me about this most... the chubby body, the hunched, submissive posture, and the lack of UMPH that made the Darkonite so appealing to me, 9 years ago.
It looks like a lapdog, not a vicious beast.
But... that said, I would not be inspired to adopt any "basic" color Darkonites with this look.

:( Not liking that every time the Darkonite gets brought back around for another "update" it just ends up looking... cutsey? It looks too much like a boxed chubby little kitty instead of what I see as a rugged stray animal. Thats the whole fitting thing about my pet being a darkonite, the personality reflects the look and that just looks like a little kitty who wants to take over the world with... cuteness? lol.

Dillema changes look great.
I don't own a Darkonite, and the new one is nice but wouldn't convince me to get one, either. The art style is technically sound, no issue with that. What I don't like is it looks like a Darkonite who had work done. His broad muzzle has been made smaller and more defined, making it rather effeminate compared to the old one. He's also smiling which seems to miss the point.

while i prefer the new darkonite's shading etc., i still think it's too "draw me like one of your french girls" and not as tough-looking as the old art's. new one needs its brain showing (like the old one) as well as less... submission? idk, the darkonite's always been pretty hostile to me.

While the darkonite is obviously done much cleaner, I can't imagine a more white bread pose. He's lost all his scrappy, and bitterness that just made him such a little toughy. I'm pretty sad to see him looking so generic, you can't even see his brain anymore. His bones are thicker here, which just makes him look cuddly, and that doesn't seem close to the other, and his coloring is a little muddled in the body which makes his 2 tails pretty impossible to make out as well. I think this is quite far from what I would expect out of the new darkonite and I truly hope changes are actually being considered. I'll reiterate, the art looks cleaner, but you've completely lost what made him an interesting character.

Looks like the new Darkonite is winning the poll. Its art is better and the face + head remind me more of the old darkonite, which I like. The pose is just really static and boring; granted the old one wasn't too exciting, but at least it didn't look like it was drawn in a box. The new one could stand some negative space imo. I think that would make it more visually appealing. I even like the pose of the previous revamp better than this new one.

Love the updated Dellima. Might be a tad on the shiny side, but overall I think they look amazing with the touch ups.
Also LOVE this proposed Darkonite! The only things throwing me off a bit.
The tails being down make it appear more submissive and skittish than the proud disgruntled look. I also think more of the brain should be showing and maybe give it a tiny bit more of a scowl. All in all though I love what the artists have done this time around!

New darkonite still doesn't look disgruntled enough. I also think it looks a little too plump, I always thought that the darkonite was kind of a stray dog, and liked that it looked a little starved, and now it looks too well fed.

i like the old darkonite's pose better, but the new one is muuuuch better. it needed a revamp hella bad. the dilemmas are super cute too! they just seem kinda shiny imo which is sorta weird for something made of plush. still though, much better.

I'm very glad that the Dillema just got a shading touch up, and not an entire pose-revamp. The Angelic Dillema is one of my dream pets~ I LOVE the Darkonite. It needed a revamp, but I wasn't a huge fan of the other proposed one. It was nice, but I felt the neck was off, maybe? The attitude is different, but that just makes me want to hug it more!

Some nice updates to both. The overall head of the new Darkonite is bothering me a little though. At first I thought maybe it was a little off-center, but I think mayybe there's a difference in the eye shape or something (that's after taking the perspective into consideration) or the shading on the skull. On the old Darkonite there's this little shadow that follows the arch of the brow of the closest eye and I think adding that to the new one would help a lot. Despite the new Darko's head being a really apparent circle, the shading is making the forehead it look a little.. concave I guess? I don't quite know how else to explain it..
Also, I really adore the sharpness of the old Darkonite's ear tips. I realized that the Darko is bound to lose some of its pointedness since Hagane generally has a softer/rounder style than Jag or MC did but it'd be nice if the bones and spikes kept as much of their shard-like appearance as possible. (sorry for the nitpicks, the Darkos have been one of my favorite species for years now).
Now that all that's said, I like that the brain is now covered and both the chest and far side of the face stick out as looking fantastic. <3 Serious love for both of those features.

This new Darkonite update is far superior to the last Darkonite update you guys opened a poll for, if you ask me.
I agree with Asrodeia though, at least at first I liked it better with its tail raised. The change in attitude it gives is totally something I could get used to, though. In a way it almost seems more believable than the attitude of the old version's attitude.

Some lovely changes! The Darkonite's new art is a huge improvement, though I feel the new version looks a tad more submissive, if that's a word that works, than the former. I personally think it'd retain more from the old if the tail was lifted up, and maybe more of the brain was showing? Still looks great though, hats off to the artist!

Coming from a Darkonite fan, I think the revamped Darkonite looks great! I'm in agreement with some of the other comments though; the one thing I would change would be showing the brain a little bit more. :)

I'm sorry to say that i've never paid much attention to the dillema, so i can't give my opinion on the before and after. However, it looks nice!
The darkonite is AWESOME. my ONLY even POSSIBLY negative opinion would be that it'd be nice if the tail was still lifted. Gives it some attitude. But awesome.

This is a lovely revamp. I am so glad the artists here pay attention to our critiques. This is much nicer than the last proposed revamp. I go agree that the tails seem to blend in a little bit too much- give them some contrast and it will be lovely.

Oh, and the Dillema updates are really really nice. The colors are more rich, and the refreshed line art has so much more depth. I just realized the Dillema has pins sticking out of it's head ^_^;

I actually don't like the new Darkonite ^^" I kinda liked how he was a bit disproportionate with his small body and big head. It made his spike and bone? markings stand out much more.
He doesn't look as badass as he used to.
I do like the how the feet look but maybe if the tails flipped up like it did in the old one, that one back leg won't look so big

The new Dillema doesn't look much different than it did before except a bit smoother and, it might just be me, but a bit fatter too. Maybe it's just cause it looks a bit squashed in, or I'm just seeing things.

My main issue with the proposed Darkonite are those back feet. The tails conveniently cover up the closest back leg and it makes that whole leg look bloated up, and the hooves appear too large and clunky compared to the size of it's body. The hoof proportions on the Glacier, Bloodred, and Dark Matter Darkonite look a lot better in my opinion. Okay, oooone last little thing, I think the lower leg markings could afford to be just a touch lighter. I'm not sure if it's just my eyes, but the color is so dark that the front paws start to lose their details because of how close the dark red is to the black outlines.

The new darkonite is great!! The only small issue I have with it, is the fact that now a tuft of hair covers the exposed brain bit. That part was really cool in the old darkonite. Otherwise, I voted for the new one. c:

Other than that the only other issues I had were some places the lineart blended in with the shading, etc. And the fact that the butt spikes being moved farther back makes the back look super plain, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. Also, belly scale armor whatever it is, looks off to me on the stomach, not entirely sure why. It amazing new art though.

I very much like the new Darkonite, but its tails should swing out inside of staying so close to the body, to differentiate them a little more from its legs. I also agree with others that the expression is a little too sweet. But the art is really good!

Hmmmm, I dunno..... The way it's turning over its shoulder but still looking forward makes it look more cutesy than Darkonites usually are, and I still don't understand their heads... Is it made of stone, or is it wearing a stone helmet? Either way, how can its fleshy parts overlap the stone the way they do and where does that tuft of hair come from? What are those spikes on its cheeks used for? The way they're angled forward doesn't look practical, and the spikes on its butt just look out of place... Maybe its just me being the evolutionary biology enthusiast I am, but the Darkonite's anatomy just doesnt make any natural sense *__*;;

I love the detail and general design of the new Darkonite, it's really well drawn! The only thing that I dislike is the fact that it looks so sweet. It's expression says come hither, I liked how the original darkonite looked like he'd try and take a bite out of you if you got too close.

Almost, on the Darkonite--its front feet aren't on the same horizontal plane as the back feet. Floating just a tiny bit. Might be partly due to the downward tilt on the hooves.
The eyes are great, the tail and markings and... horn-bits stuck on, I don't know what to call those. Just fix the alignment of the feet and I'm 100%.

The new darkonite looks incredible! The shading and detail is so beautifully done. Also, the overall look has been maintained which is really nice! The eyes still have the "I don't give a crap" attitude, nothing looks chunky and cutesy, the "ribbing" elements are nice and sharp. This one is great!

I love the new, updated look of the Darkonite, but something about it still seems 'off'. Maybe it's because the tails are down? They don't really stand out against the rest of the body in that relaxed position. I almost didn't even see them, to be honest.

I love the darkonite, but I think it might look better with the tails up, because now they are slightly hard to see against the rest of the body while up they are visible in all their glory.
