Survival CW Contest Reminder!
Just a friendly reminder you have until 11:59pm on February 19th to enter the Survival CW Contest! Word has it that the participation prize will really get your goat.

Well, I like the contest :3 Drawing is nearly the only thing I am good at and I am happy I can participate in this event. So I don't think this "contest for only the ones with art skills" is unfair, as long as our subeta team keeps throwing different events and contests for different skills at us! :)
I like the idea of different contests, even though I can't enter every single one of them. For example this writing contest someone mentioned, I would really like to read the stories. I like writing stories, but my english isn't good enough (as you can see/read)hahaha :)
So pleeease don't be so negative about this contest, this makes me feel bad ;-;

I wish this was more of a DESIGN contest rather than a CW contest. Where we can draw our designs (regardless whether it meets Subetas art requirements or not) and have one of the artists (Subeta's choice) create the item(s) that win.

I'm okay with drawing and I'd love to do this: but to ask me to try and copy the coloring style here and its like asking me to jump off a bridge. :( This contest feels super biased towards one part of the community.
The cake baking contests weren't that bad (one-sided wise) because it's a lot easier picking up a baking pan and some baking supplies than buying a drawing tablet / having knowledge of art programs enough to make something like a cw.
The writing contest people mentioned is pretty nice as an idea too. :( But I think in terms of an art contest, it should be geared towards all skills (like baking contests) and based off creativity rather than specific people who can actually make a cw (who are probably already doing so).

I just said writing because that's the kind of art I make. I don't draw or make crafts or anything visual, so I was just saying "hey, I'm willing to participate in your art contests, but until it's language-based my entries are just for my own amusement and a chance to get the participation prizes because this isn't my wheelhouse and there are probably other users in the same boat".
There probably won't be a writing contest on Subeta beyond the Pet Spotlight and honestly I'm not bothered by that as long as every entry in the other contests counts as "participating". My entry shouldn't be considered for anything beyond that because it's obviously terrible, but just because I put my experience points in a different speciality, to use a goofy RPG metaphor, doesn't mean I should be barred from the acknowledgement that I did make something. Winning may not be open to everyone, but participation shouldn't be based on whether your skills and talents lie in the right place and whether you own the right equipment -- I'm sure there are plenty of talented artists on Subeta who are stymied because they do traditional art rather than digital.
Anyway, my point is that I'm not really complaining so much as crossing my fingers that even low-quality submissions are accepted as such, and yeah, maybe hoping that there are some non-visual-art-based contests for us to participate in (or better yet, a contest that allows entries in multiple categories -- art, writing, crafts, music, interpretive friggin' dance, whatever). Everyone does different stuff! Just because we're not good at drawing (or drawing this specific kind of thing) doesn't mean we're not good at anything else and are just sitting around being lazy.

I think the difference between the cake or pumpkin contests and this is that those don't already have a market on here. If someone can meet Subeta's art requirements(even more if they can win the contest), they're probably already making a killing in CWs or in the art market. That's not to say that they don't deserve to profit off their skills, but I can see why having a contest pretty much specifically for them might feel a little unfair to other people.
That said, I enjoy that the CW contests give people who can't afford CWs the chance to get items from those artists. I wouldn't say no to a writing contest, though. We already have some book items that show "excerpts", so maybe the contest could be to create a title and write a page, then staff turns the winner(s) into official items? Would be fun, I think.

This is a virtual pet site with avatars. And I'm not sure why you find a writing contest so farfetched. :pensive: We already have something that's partially a writing contest, seeing as how the pet spotlight requires stories. A lot of people would love a general writing contest. Writing is a skill.

@LuckBurnside With avatars, so it can be described as both. There are users who are largely here for the avatars, others for the pets, or both and the CW contests are for wears while the others are for miscellaneous items (pumpkins for collecting, ornaments for tree, cakes for the pets to eat or for collections). :| So either way, writing stories probably won't become a contest here.

It's an avatar site, so it'll require more than typing a story. I recall only once that Subeta did a non-skill contest, but that was a huge sweepstakes thing. Ages ago. You can commission someone to make the item with your idea, unless you can't pay. Stop complaining that you "can't participate." Even people who feel they make crappy entries (because they don't have amazing skill or don't like what they made) STILL enter the skill-based contests (cake baking, pumpkin carving, etc). Don't like the contest, don't enter--I have the resources for digital art and some (limited) digital artistic skill, but I can't make a CW. I'm not complaining about it!
odduckOasis is also right; you can teach yourself. You have some sort of internet access, there's tons of tutorials. Get to learning a new enjoyable skill instead of bemoaning a good contest. :|

HAHA my contest entry is an absolute disaster QuQ I have no idea how to make a CW and so the HA in the overlay is all splotched up and there's white pixels all around my overlay but at least I tried. ugh. xD

I don't remember if this was ever answered last time, but if a design doesn't win, can we submit it later ourselves as normal CWs?

welp. submitted something, the overlay itself i actually really like but the item icon.. oh my god... have fun with that LOL

Well, I entered. Time to find out if "throwing something at the site because you don't know how to draw but wanted the participation prize anyway" is a valid tactic.
Hey, if you guys ever run a crack fanfiction contest I'll give you the best thing you've ever read, but if it's visual-art-based "crappy thing that looks like I drew it in MS Paint even though I didn't" is the best I can do.

Welp, I really like the way the overlay turned out, but I think the item image is probably gonna get rejected. I can do makeup and eyes, but gah, I hate shading anything else. >_< Oh well, maybe I can start doing makeup and just commission the items.

I really hope they won't post ALL the entries but just the ones that are gonna be selected for voting , cause I'm really ashamed of mine, but I wanted the prize xD

HA HA HA HA HA HA OH MY GOD I have no idea what I am doing? I used the big template provided and then sized the canvas to the right size and the overlay.... oh my god. It's like 9000 times bigger than the avatar.

Well it took me four hours and it's only a mouth and it looks like early early Subeta artwork quality. But it's in.

i submitted one but I kinda feel meh about its chances due to the fact that the item image that had to be in gif format is so low quality because i dont have photoshop, or any program that really saves gifs, except for ms paint, which saves it in a crappy resolution. I just submitted a hair one but im going to end up doing another one thats a dress and hopefully ill find some way to save the item image that time in decent quality

It better be wearable, since you said ALL PARTICIPATION PRIZES would be WEARABLE THIS TIME.
After that bullshit you pulled with the last CW contest (goodbye 35mil I spent on that sticker), you better not be lying, Keith.

Is it Oatmeal themed, because I love that goat, unfortunately I have not had enough practice with drawing.

I have neither the talent or money to commission to enter ;w;
Hopefully next year if there's another event like this. Good luck to everyone who enters! ♥️

I have a brilliant idea, and I'll do what I can with it if I have time (snow day tomorrow, maybe), but it certainly wouldn't be "ready to use".

Had fun making mine, then submitting it, then deleting it cause there was a handful of pixels off, then submitting it, then deleting it because the shading didn't quite look right, then deleting it cause there was a smidgin of exposed skin where it shouldn't have been, then submitting it..ect. *laughs* I won't win but I did the very best that I could with the concept and my skill level at digital artwork.

Yeah, I still want to know if shitty non-entries count for participation prizes. I can't draw but I can submit with the best of them!

What's different with this contest involving drawing on the computer where other contests have involved some sort of skill as well? The cake contest, bake a cake- not an idea for one; pumpkin carving contest- carve a pumpkin; ornament contest, you have to make it, not submit an idea for one. Sorry, but I don't see the logistics for this argument that I keep hearing. All contests require more effort than simply writing it out... (or even sketching it, which I still think wouldn't be good enough since none of the other contests did that).
It sucks if you can't draw atm, but that doesn't mean you couldn't teach yourself for future contests? I won't say it's not hard, but that's like complaining that people should stop making ice cream because you're lactose intolerant. =/
~
Anyways....
I finally submitted a couple! Yay! I debating about submitting the other one I have... hm.... GL everyone else!

Sigh.
Wish this was more about being able to submit an idea for a CW rather than the actual art.
Really sucks for those of us that cannot make CWs.

I have no artistic talent...at all!
