Summer is Here!
Have you been waiting for an item from a particular season from the Millionaire Center? Maybe a specific book two seasons away? Well now you can buy items from the off-seasons though for a higher price.
The Millionaire Center is now separated into five tabs, one for each season and one tab for year round items. You can buy items from the current season for the normal sP price tag or buy something from an off-season for 125% its normal price. For example buying a Balrog Sticker, which is a Fall item, will cost you 1,250,000 sP if you buy it outside of Fall. The year-round, such as the Darkmatter Potion or Lizard Minion Trap, have their own tab and are priced normally.
The Scale of Red Rreign has been taken out of the Millionaire Center for a short period of time until the Battle Admins get a chance to rework it. It’s been strongly advised to use any red rreign scales you have now. Keep an eye out for a news post bringing it back in the coming weeks!
Remember the time limit between purchases in the Millionaire Center is one hour now! :)
The Summer Sphinx Relief is a collection that lets you choose one summer sphinx themed item from within! Just like last season, if you can figure out the riddle regarding the trinket you will get a cool item. In this case, if you can figure out the riddle and fulfill the requirements of the Summer Sphinx Trinket, you’ll receive a Summer Sphinx Pauldron!
The scroll’s riddle is part of a larger riddle that will involve every season. :)
The Quest Givers are in the summer spirit, are you?

As someone who bought items specifically to sell when they went out of season for a profit I am disappointed. Shit. Not much I can do now though except try to sell them for what I paid at least..

I'm ambivalent about the MC change. I liked the fact that it took a full year to get everything from the store. I've been waiting for the Legendary Combo stickers for a couple of seasons, and I felt like it was something I could really look forward to. Now I can just throw money at it and have it completed. It's a bit... anticlimactic, I guess. I was already a bit disappointed after the wait time between purchases was reduced. It made each purchase feel much less monumental. I know the MC isn't quite what it was to begin with (when a million sP was a LOT), but it still felt like I was buying something special every time.
On the other hand, having items constantly available for things like Item Hunt, without having to rely on other users, is nice. sP sinks are also nice, so getting people to waste extra money is probably a good thing for the site's economy.

@StarShadow You buy the Summer Sphinx Relief and open it up to get the Summer Sphinx Trinket. The description of the Summer Sphinx Trinket has a riddle that you have to figure out. If you complete the task it asks you to do, then your trinket turns into the Summer Sphinx Pauldron! (Last season it’s basically the same thing, you use the Spring Sphinx trinket’s riddle to gain a different Spring Sphinx item. It’s a pretty snazzy bow).

I didn't understand the last riddle thing, I mean not the riddle itself but how it works. You buy a certain item and it has a riddle?

:D Yay!! All year availability will keep me from going insane. :) I do wish that the out of season stock was quite a bit more though , that way there would be a point to buying it while its the in thing. The riddles are quite interesting..

Cool beans :) Seems like a win win to me. That has to be easier for staff to simply add the new things rather than to rotate everything. And for those who bought extras to sell, at least you can still get a small profit, though it feels like getting robbed, it's the risk you take when you invest in anything. Yay sp sink, and for me personally, yay that all items will stay prominently visible so I always know what I'm saving for! lol

I thought that seasonal rotation was a really nice thing to have. It made sense and it worked well. If you were too lazy to buy during the 3 months it was available you ought to pay more from it and the one who was smart enough to buy some extras knowing people would need them, ought to profit. However with a seasonal discount type thing we have now, it's still decent because instead people will be sinking sP, which in the end is comparably as good for the economy as the money flow otherwise.
The tipping factor though is that suddenly all of these items have a set in stone year round price-ceiling again, and it's only 25% up from the normal price. When i read the news, i was really hoping it was +125% but of course it was just +25%.
It's nicer to have a free market on those items at least 3/4ths the year. Setting ceilings like this is NOT cool...

As for the scale, I understand the changes as a stat booster but...as someone that has been waiting for it to come back so I can make the set for my wardrobe collection, I am rather disappointed that the price is apparently going to go up on them. That set is going to be expensive enough to make as is.

Question about the Scale of Red Rreign, will it still be able to make the combos out of it after it returns? I wasn't really looking at it as a stat booster but I want the combos from it at some point.

I, for one, am pretty glad that we can still get seasonal items all year now. I've lost count of how many of the seasonal items I've desperately needed for TCs but just put off because I hate dropping so much sp at once, only to realize half an hour before it rotates out that I need 8 things. Then I have the choice of paying ten times as much from another user, or waiting an entire year for another chance to get it for the normal price.

All this is really neat. I like it. The new MC system is nice. I think it makes more sense as a high-end rich person "store" to rotate out seasonal items, but it's nice that they're always available too. I guess if you're rich you pay for convenience right! So that does make sense after all.

It'd be nice if there was an easy way to know what is seasonal summer stock and what stays in the shop year long. Without going to Subetalodge or anything. Either splitting the stock into a new "Non-seasonal" category or a different color markup would be nice

@Sunflower They're two different items! The summer trinket transforms into the Pauldron, the spring turns into the bow!
So if you want the bow you have to buy the spring trinket and solve the riddle and the trinket will transform into the Spring Sphinx Arrowhead.
If you want the pauldron you have to buy the summer trinket and solve the riddle and the trinket will transform into the Summer Sphinx Pauldron.
If you want both you have to buy both the spring AND summer trinkets, but you just need one of each.
(I hope that helped! Sorry if I was unclear in my other posts!)

@Five well, some people might have spent a huge amount of money like two days ago, not two months, just because they were told spring items would retire, than today it's "LOL NO, JK!". I just wish they wouldn't constantly change their mind about how to run the site, and "a lot of people wanted this" it's not always a good reason; I bet a lot of people would like godly weapons to be cheap, it's still not gonna happen.
However, as I said, I'm more annoyed at the costant changes than anything else.

The reason the scales are being reworked is mostly likely that even with a 25% premium, they're still much, much more efficient than the cash shop boosters that happen to be more expensive. If they don't make them worse, who's gonna buy those ? duh
0
five_507
@Lia this argument comes up with each and every change onsite, "we were told". Sometimes it's Subeta's fault and they should have told, because the issue wouldn't have existed if they had, p.e. including items in the CS sale that were said to not be in there, or retiring Subeautique lines without announcement.
But sometimes you couldn't really do anything even if they told you - what, if they told you 2 months before this change that you should sell all your MC items, would that work? Obviously not.
So, to have any change ever there will be some cases where it just can't be helped that some things don't have the advantages they had before. This is one of them. Otherwise, no change would be allowed ever, which would simply be a shit concept.

Ok, so I guess I should get into the riddle thing... I didn't want to because there was no point for me in spring, but if there is something else in that I might need to do it!
Also, I like and don't like that we can buy all the items all the time in the MC, I liked the 'season' feeling of this shop... but yeah it's fine either way! Could we do the same for the quest shop too that lose some of their items for a season?
Also, why not put the items that always stays on a different tab instead of mixed with the others?

I've been around for almost a decade, I definitely know it used to be just one standard set of items. I LIKED the rotation. I liked that you had a certain sect of time to get the items before they were rotated out until the next season came along. I don't want a median between not having it, and having it.

However, for your information, the real profit does come from retired, special etc. items, that you had the patience to outwait, not from restockables.

Except I'm not even a reseller; I'm just a normal user who happens to have a concept on how market works, and is upset because it's a bad move for the site. Keith keeps saying how he has these plans to recover the economy, but then the site continuously pushes out changes that will hurt those plans. Subeta needs serious help in regards to the economy. Just dismissing changes like these by saying "yay, it's what we wanted!" is not helpful. A room on fire, remains on fire, aided by the masses of people who don't notice it.

Thank you so much for this change! I can buy at my leisure now, even if the prices are slightly higher, and not have to worry about them not even being in stock in user shops.
Which is the biggest problem for me: seasonal (and especially older collection) items often aren't found in any user shops to even buy when I've wanted to buy them. And often waiting to see if any older show up in shop is futile; there aren't enough in supply, or no one wants to sell.
Which is... kind of the reason for the antique shop, too, another new feature I'm pretty grateful for even if I personally think the prices are very high. I know my idea of what's "too much" currency differs from a lot of other, older users, anyway, but at least if I want it and I want to save up for it it'll be there and there's no fretting over if they'll disappear after a while because someone else bought them first. It really helps with making decisions on priorities and goals.
But yeah, for these kinds of items, where folks don't even put them in trades or shops to sell, providing alternatives this way where they're guaranteed to be there, even if they're more expensive, is really nice. I'm really excited to get things, and yeah I may end up being impatient on a few select items and "doing economy wrong" or whatever by buying out of season, and o well for that.
Shrugs. I'm a sucker for guarantees, and I liked the seasonal thing on its own, but I like this, too.
(It's also why I'm so glad to see the collections come back--hopefully as a seasonal thing and not just a one-time deal where each month just for this year they're brought into the Cash Shop again--and to show it I bought up a bunch of the old June ones plus the newest one, because o my so many fishing-related items!)

I'm happy that all the items are in there now. That's a really good step, considering how scarce some of them were. I think 25% is a pretty small penalty, though. I was expecting more like 50 - 100% extra. Guess I can't complain too much, though!

The price for off season items should at least be a lot more than a mere 25%. This was done for a reason, so not everything is available all the time and there's a little incentive to to the game - just a wee bit of waiting is necessary for the seasons to spin. While I approve of the antique shop, providing everything sells at a really high price, I don't condone the give everybody all they want within the wink of an eye policy. At the same time I guess you're ruining people's shop profits more and more every day with actions like this. There is no free market any longer, Subeta dictates prices.
It's one thing to offer them for a *slightly* increased price, but 25% is nothing for an item from the Millionaire Center in an off-season. This kills free market, and all the users who (quite intelligently!) bought extras during the actual season to resell during the off-season.
@introvert
This site would be a disaster if staff gave users everything they wanted.
And yes, you can get off-season foods irl for more money, but they're also cheaply manufactured versions of the real thing. Have you had strawberries out of season? They're disgusting and full of preservatives, which would be a HILARIOUS thing for Subeta to incorporate (*hinthint* maybe with the Hustler) to provide bad knockoffs of the real items during the off-season instead of the actual items.
Besides that, you can't compare the irl economy to subeta's economy to make an analogy anymore, because this one is super broken and REAL economy is not a seller's market alone. For the subetan economy to be similar to the real -somewhat working- economy, they would have to factor in a buyer's market. The buyer is not factored into the subetan economy at all, when buying from user shops.
tl;dr subetan economy is broken and configured differently from the real economy so you can't really make exact analaogies

I find it ridiculous that people here argue with "this is ruining prices for sellers"... Millionaire Center Items aren't everyday business anyway and there are thousands of other high-price items you can sell. Also, selling something off-season for 300% of the original price and up (way, way up in some cases) is not really a business that needs to be held up.
Furthermore, presenting the whole thing above as "ruining the economy" is just plain wrong. It may be ruining your personal prices for some items, but now way more money will be going into the sp sink that is the MC, and we're always looking out for sp sinks, aren't we?
I think this is best to be seen not as a higher price off-season, but a seasonal discount that you get when you buy in the right season, and I can absolutely live with that.

Thank you so much for pleasing the masses! ;)
There are so many nice things to buy I'm getting overwhelmed!

"Just because a lot of people want something though, doesn't mean it should be given."
uhm except that's how you kinda please the masses? this is a business, first and foremost.
If your customers aren't happy, then you're not going to have any customers.
Or you know, if you want an item out of season, like watermelon in the spring instead of summer, you pay more for it from the store. Oh look, 125% for the off-season items in the MC? That makes TOTAL SENSE. (Like why would I buy watermelon from a shady dealer in the ally for $6 when I can get it for $2.50 from the grocers?)

Yeah I agree a bit, I don't like that the items aren't actually "seasonal" now. There was a fun sort of excitement in the rotation of items and seeing the shop switch out and now that's kind of been killed and for me takes a lot of fun out of the MC.

@Luthien This is also something Ariel and I were planning to do for some time. For users that aren't patient enough to wait until the season to get items they need (books, minions, whatever), then they can pay a bit of extra sP for it. I think it's a little silly that items that were like 1mil were going for like 20mil in user shops :p

I just wish the new items in quests shops were marked somehow, either at the top or bottom or highlighted the 1st day they're added. It's hard trying to figure out what's new and what isn't. Thanks for the new items! Feeling summery now. :)

I am really happy to see Millionaire Center items back in there year round, though I'll be waiting until fall to get my Millionaire Center trading card.

More of a singular item on-site will drop the value. That's what I'm saying.
@introvert
Yes, it's smart to wait for it to come in-season, but that's how seasonal items work. If you want them out-of-season, you're either going to buy them from someone who purposely held onto them because they were supposed to be a "limited" item. That's kind of the point of being a shop owner.

i may just be totally missing it, but i can't find the 'beneath the waves' book under the summer tab... is it missing? or do i have to buy another item and transform it into this one?

@Luthien So people actually sinking the sP out of the system is hurting the economy? I don't get it?
Also, if you're buying off-season items for double or triple the price from resellers, you're economy-ing wrong.

question: I bought a spring sphinx relief but I didn't open it and take the item that allows you to solve for the wearable bow item. Is it too late to do that? From what I read the riddle had something to do "with the season" so I'm not sure.

I love the new Mil Center update, but I agree with the statement about seasonal items being hurt by this change.

I personally think the seasonal discount (which it now effectively is) is an okay way to do it - why not?

@luthien
Lol no it won't - it'll help the economy because people will buy it from the MC and sink sP if user prices are too high. People still have the option to wait and for the more expensive items 25% extra is a bit increase, users can still sell for a profit if they've hoarded something.

Not to mention, this will drive down the prices of the out-of-season items, which will hurt the economy even more.

I didn't understand the riddle thing so guess I won't be bothering with those items. But this is great, having the different seasons available. Thanks.
