Congrats to all the winners.
I am, however, somewhat disappointed that the winning entries were all ones with artwork, even though it was not a requirement to do so. I actually read through all the entries and those I voted for did not have artwork. I found many of the story only ones were just as good and deserved to be voted for, not just skimmed over for "da pwetty picktoors". I do wish there had been a separate category for those who did not have any artwork with their entry... it would be somewhat more fair to those who cannot draw as well as they can make stories.
I also felt rather put out by all the people who actually said they were "too lazy" to read all the entries and many of them just picked "the prettiest pictures" without even reading anything at all... even though they were given 5 days to do so. It makes those who spent their time thinking up a decent "story" for their entry all for naught... like these entries did not count at all. It still felt like a popularity contest for those who can draw and who cares about the storytelling... which I feel is just as worthy an artform as picture drawing.
Perhaps next time, if the staff really insists that folks not just pick entries with pictures, then please do not have this part there at all. Or if you must have artwork, then have two sets of winners... one for the art and one for the story.

aw, yay! I voted for Esther's Homebrew Vesnali Ale. I'm glad it won!! congrats to everyone, of course :)

great job to the winners! i personally did split vote..i picked 2 with the art and 3 without. Tried to make it fair. I know if i would have partipated..mine would have been no art!

There were some amazing entries, both art wise and description wise... It would have been nice had they divided them into "has art" or "no art" categories, but they did not. Maybe next time they will do that. For now people let's just congratulate the people who won... they had some great ideas! Look forward to seeing these items on the site!

I'm going to add this because my comment can be seen as rude and that isn't my intention. I just wanted to say that while I didn't have time to read all the entrants, you can tell how much work went into them. You can tell how well thought out and how much creative imagination it must have taken. That is an amazing thing. So many should be proud of that, whether declared a "winner" or not, whether people voted for you or not. IMO there were and def should have been far more than 5 winners. There were so many interesting ideas that I saw and heard of from other users. So again, congratulations :) And I hope whether negative or not, that no one's comments take away from what a cool thing you all did.

Ngl, I've hardly been on Subeta for 10 minutes a day lately, and I was super excited about this contest. When I went to go vote, I noped the fuck out of that. I did not sign up for a second english class. I don't have time for novels.
That being said, do you all really wonder why those feat. art won? Because if I would've voted, then that would've been my go-to. All them words??
Anyway, congrats winners! These were incredibly thought out and I can't wait to see how staff puts all that detail onto an itty bitty 64x64.

Damn it is so salty in here I kinda want some fries now.
Congrats to the winners - the entries are great, I can see why they got voted up (tying them into the site was a good idea, should've done that with mine).
Should voting have been split by "has art" and "has no art" and then possibly 5 from each category? Sure. Did it happen that way? Not this time. A lot of people mentioned that they voted based on name/description regardless of whether there was art. The number of entries with art was pretty high though, and of course a lot of people didn't have time to read through nearly 300 entries, so the likelihood of ones with art winning was higher.
There's honestly no reason to be rude about the ones with art winning. You can criticize the process without attacking or belittling the artists (lookin' at you folks who claimed that "art won out over creativity" - that is a pretty rude statement - especially since, you know, art requires creativity too).

Though none are any I voted for, saying a huge congrats to those who won, because how exciting is that? Hope you enjoy your prize(s) :) Also saying, though, for future contests, maybe make several rounds of voting, esp if there are 300 (ish) entrants. I would have loved reading every single entry. Personally, even with a week, this was just not possible for me to do. Again, though, CONGRATS to the winners! :)

@Lime
It's not cool to reduce the criticisms here to just "you're jealous you can't draw" either. These people have justifiable problems with how voting was set up and carried out and the fact that it greatly hindered anyone without art or good art for a contest that was never meant to be about the art anyway. Tbh I see how you're acting as more petty.

I voted on the Tsushiin Sake Lager *w* and of COURSE I voted for ones with good art too. I'm an artist, and the artwork I voted for was just lovely. The ideas behind them were great too. Don't be so petty just because you can't art. Hmph.

@Ravage
I think it might be a little more fair to put them into separate categories, rather than hiding the art until after voting or something similar. I use art to clearly and quick communicate an idea, and often times I can't really express that within 500 characters or some similar limitation (or express them at all!!). It's the same reason storyboard artists are employed for things like live action films and shows. They're able to quickly communicate how the shot should be laid out, and it's a lot more helpful than "the subject should be placed on the left, the lighting should be overhead" for cinematographers. I'm not saying descriptions are bad -- I saw a lot of cool entries that were just descriptions (I was really rooting for the Matlal's Jewels entry!) but for me personally, art is an easy and clear way to communicate an idea, and I don't think that's a bad thing.
Like I said, it might have been a little better to have art/non art categories, but I don't think completely hiding it would be helpful.

Kind of wondering if I was the only one to scrutinize the art and ask myself "is this art practical to put on a teeny item image?"

Ravage
Who is being "nasty" about the art comments? No one.
Art should be put in spoilers instead of flat out displayed. Or you can see the art after you vote for it. I only voted for the Jollin one out of the winners because I actually liked the description. But then again, I took the time to read a lot of them.

And a round of applause to all the entries I voted for as well. Not sure who you are, but you had excellent descriptions, ideas, and names. Lots of well-thought-out ideas. Ah, what could have been.

I think the problem most people have is that it was pretty obvious people voted mostly/only for the picture. I mean you could let your description/concept slide as long as your art was the best when the entire contest was supposed to be the best overall concept. Part of that is of course the visual, but in this case that doesn't mean the visual has to be particularly relevant or well designed so much as "pretty".
Just my two cents on what everyone's thinking. I voted/almost voted for some of these anyway, so I somewhat agree/disagree.

Even if you can't draw there was no excuse you couldn't at least try. There were several people in there who obviously had limited artistic experience and they tried anyway.
The point of including the art was to make it a more believable product/give you a visual representation. These users won fair and square so congrats to them :)
When you've got 100's of entries to sift through you're damn right I'm just going to read the ones who made visuals of their product.

Users complain that they can't draw, Subeta opens up contest for written and drawn entries and allows the users to vote.
Still get a load of complaints. If anything, you should blame the users rather than the staff for the winners.

Wow people are being nasty about it turning into an "art contest". I hate to break it to you guys, but a visual representation will almost always trump a descriptive representation. People are always gonna be drawn to pictures rather than a wall of words, that's just how it is. Please stop being rude. The winners obviously worked hard on their entries. Just be happy for them

Congratulations to the winners!!! Great job!
And if looking for suggestions for next time, I really like how the page is currently set up with the winning entries. It makes it so much easier to actually read the content. The contest pages with uneven entries side by side, and very thin columns made even short entries hard to read, never mind the longer ones. I also think it would have made the art vs. no art, a little less of a problem.

Congrats to the winners! Great to see several of my favorites won. Just curious though, Is there any way we can see how many votes our entries got. Perhaps I'm being masochistic, but I'd love to know if mine was liked at all ('cause I'd kind've like to brew it for real if it was).

The winners are all really great and I look forward to adding them to my pet's alcohol TC, but I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else in that I'm not surprised they all have art. It was nice to finally see a contest that didn't require art skills to join in, but it wound up being catered to artists anyway. Seriously, you didn't take into account that with 300 entries on one page, people are gonna skim? I didn't get a chance to join due to RL circumstances, but I'm not sure I even want to put in any effort to join future contests like this if I'm not gonna have a snowball's chance anyway.

Just one thing: if you're allowing 2 types of entries (this time ART or NO ART) so also dived them to 2 groups and 5 winners for each.

Actually, rather than art vs not art, I feel like next time, all items should require a logo/visual description. And that description would be the only thing displayed to users. The art would just be a visual guide to help the staff accurately portray the logo, and it could be displayed afterwards so that everyone could enjoy it, but so it wouldn't influence people's voting choices. Art is lovely, but it really should be concept over execution. :I I kind of feel like that's the only way to make these things even out.

None of the entries I voted for won lol. I actually really liked the 'Doppel-Ganger-Bock' entry, but I deliberately didn't put a vote on it because I just KNEW it was going to win and I wanted to give another entry a better chance.
Oh well, congrats to the winners regardless! I absolutely love a community that decides to reach out to players for new content! :)

Nice!! I voted for one of these, so I'm pleased with the results. Congrats to the winners!!! And to everyone who entered too, because there were sooo many good ones.
I agree with the (many) others who have brought up having an art category and a text category. It's too much to look through as is--that said, this was fun and I hope we have more events like this.

I do think the entries that had art got more votes - I know at least that was where most of my votes went. As trying to read through 300 entries is very time consuming and after about the tenth one you end up skimming/scrolling and your eye catches on the pretty pictures, not the 100 word descriptions.
I didn't even read/see half of the winners - and I'm sure it's because I got about half way down and was too lazy/had no more time to sift through them. Oops!
Congratulations to everyone who won!
And also a big thank you to everyone who entered - a ton of your descriptions/entries were really interesting and unique!

I will confess to skimming the entries. 300 is simply too many to adequately read. I got overwhelmed. I also agree that the submissions with artwork were at an advantage. I know my eyes were drawn to those submissions first.

I am very happy for the winners - in fact, I voted for two of these. They're all creative and I'm looking forward to the items being made.
But I am extremely disappointed with the Subeta Team for not recognizing that art was going to give a significant leg up in a voting process where we had 300 entries to read through. We're visual as human beings, and our eyes draw us to beautiful things. I agree with other sentiments regarding having two categories, with and without art, for future contents of a similar nature. Or narrow down the choices to <20 next time.

I also hope next time users take more time in looking through all the entries. 300 was quite a bit but the amount of time we had was plenty to at the very least skim through all of the entries. Staff can't take the whole blame on this situation.
5
Stakely
I don't think it's a fair assessment to say "art won over creativity" because obviously the winners were very creative. However, I still feel like there should've been two categories, one text only and the other with art, to create a better balance of winners. I voted for non-art ones knowing that the ones with art would win but you see how much of a difference that made.
I dunno, hopefully if they do this again staff will think this one through a little better next time.
Congrats to the winners!

It's not the winners' fault that people went for the art. 300 entries on one page and only getting 5 votes is why people went for the art.

Congrats.
Suppose from here on out anyone who enters a contest needs to make it solely subeta based in order to have a shot at winning. It makes me sad to think that a lot of people voted based on art/site reference(s) and not on originality as a whole. I get that the items will be for subeta though a bit of non-subeta references would have been nice.
Again, thanks for the opportunity to enter this contest and congratulations again to the winners.

A little disappointed that art won the day, instead of creativity. I like most of the entries, but I feel that some of the other concotions in the competition definitely deserve a shout out for being just as awesome as the winning items. Anyway, congrats guys

Congrats! I was totally biased in my voting since I didn't have time to read all the descriptions and so mostly went for those with art. Maybe if we'd had a selection of see five, choose one per day, that way the playing field would have been more level. Anyway, I'll be sure to get those drinks for my Gourmand pet :)

Congrats to all winners, well done! Looking forward to trying all those brews! :-)
Too sad that only a few can be chosen though, there were so many creative entries. As usual with user contests! I think that from contest design staff really listened to our complaints - viewing all entries etc. The only thing that did not work was "Do not look at the art, read the descriptions". If you wish that sort of contest, do not include the art in the showcase.

Congratulations to the winners, of course, and I mean that sincerely. However, I thought the voting was terribly done and it was by its very nature rigged in such a way that only items with artwork would win. I thought it wasn't fair to those of us who took a lot of time writing out our own descriptions, but don't have visual artistic talent. It seems to me that all the user contests require visual artistic talent, and frankly that makes me sad, when I cannot art, but I have other useful talents. Anyway, I reiterate, congratulations to the winners!

I feel like this entire contest was a whole "Be careful what you wish for" scenario that kind of feels spiteful. lmao I feel kind of foolish, but I actually thought that staff would hand pick 5 entries without any art, similar to how they separated the entries in the Peka-Boo event last year when they were smart enough to realize that face item votes were heavily outnumbering the other items and so surprised us with a total of 10 winners rather than the intended five.
I get it. We wanted you guys to be precise about the prizes that would be available from the start of the competition and you guys did that. I get it. We wanted the chance to view all entries ourselves and you guys did that. Was the lesson to just not complain and take what we're given?
I could be wrong, but has staff even addressed the terrible voting structure beyond, "we can't make it random and paginate it lol?"
I don't even know why I'm so bitter and cranky, I love the winning ones! The art is lovely, they are super creative, and they are just overall amazing. Seriously, congratulations and I can't wait to see these on site.

I agree on the art thing. It's interesting that only those with art skill won. Didn't give the rest of us much of a chance at all. I voted for image-less ones, at least. Congratulations to the winners. But next time, maybe we can omit the art bit, or have separate categories. That being said, I'm extremely against alcohol anyway, so I'm not excited for these items at all and don't care for this kind of contest at all. Glad others had fun, though.

Congrats to the winners! All of them were lovely!
I wish we'd had a few more winners though so we could slot in some of the pictureless entries. There were some really great descriptions that I'd have loved to see conceptualized. Still, the winners are lovely and well deserved. I like that they're so diverse in concept too and that a lot of them are 'localized'! Shengui Guo, Veta Lake, Omen Islands/Merana, and then a pet one and an NPC one, really cool. A nice mix.

Congrats to the winners. But something still bothers me.
How come none of those pictures loaded for me when they was in the judging phase? I know for a fact I voted for the Jolly Jollin, but the picture never came up. Its making me wonder how many pieces we actually missed out on.

Lmao looks like people went for the art - the winning entries are super lovely and creative (huge congrats to the creators!), though I wish some other really creative and descriptive entries could have won too (says one of the few people who actually skimmed through all of the entries whoops). It's too bad it was limited to 5 winners!

Congratulations to the winners!
(I'm really glad all of these were chosen but ngl I'm so stoked about the Merana's Mixture!)

Oh, this is super exciting!! Merana is one of my all time favorite NPCs on the site, so I'm excited to see another item for her! 8) Congrats to the other winners too; there were a lot of really cool and thoughtful entries in there!

Wow, congrats. The top 3 were all ones I had voted for. Can't wait to see them in the brewery :)

Yes, congrats. Honestly though I don't remember seeing any of these. Will be interested to see the contest page again.

Congrats to the winners! It was difficult picking only 5 to vote for since there were so many cool, crazy and interesting entries.
