Seek, and you shall find...

There once lived a dragon named Tsavorite. He was born into a family of very powerful dragons that lived on for decades. Because of their great power, they could accomplish many difficult feats, and were asked to perform many tasks and go on adventures for abundant rewards. The dragons that succeeded in these tasks were rewarded a great number of jewels for each deed or task that they completed. As time went on, a huge hoard of jewels and gold amassed inside the cave that the guild of dragons dwelled in. Many explorers and curious humans traveled through the barren forests, mud paths, and rocky mountains to go up to the cave that the dragons lived in, hoping to find it uninhabited so they could sneak away some of the gold. Every unwelcomed guest was scorched and burned, and as their bones decayed, they were hidden among the hoard. As Tsavorite grew, and his parents passed, he would have to be the one to guard the hoard, and keep his parents' pride alive.
Many suns set and moons rose and Tsavorite grew tired and depressed because of his obligation. He wanted to go out and see the world, and do what dragons are born to do - spread their wings and fly, to go above and beyond the sky. Alas, he couldn't. He was tied down and had to fulfill his family heritage, the treasure that he was born to protect. The only time he would go out was when he had to perform tasks or hunt. The rest of the time he would stay curled up on top of his huge mountain of treasure, his beautiful golden, copper, and crimson embers scorching anyone who dared enter.'“ if his fiery breath didn't scorch them first. He remembered strictly what his father said: There were no exceptions. Burn anyone who dares to trespass. They knew that this territory was claimed, people from lands far away knew. They were a legend, a legacy. It was impossible for anyone not to know, or not to try to get their hands on the treasure inside.
Until one day, it happened. Tsavorite was sleeping, dreaming about being in flight on top of the world until he heard footsteps. Tsavorite taught himself to wake up to any noise, even something as delicate as the drop of a pin. He tilted his head and heard tiny, tiny footsteps. He blinked, wondering if he was hearing things. What could make this noise? Surely not a mouse, they scurry. A baby dragon would be flapping their wings about, trying to fly. Anything else would create even more noise - what could it be? Tsavorite stared at the doorway, taking in a deep breath, ready to breathe out whenever needed, but then, a perfectly normal, human girl walked in. By the looks of it, she appeared seven or eight. She smiled at the dragon, with no fear. Already, she was braver than half of the adventurers that had ever walked into this cave. She didn't cry, she didn't scream, she didn't whine. All she did was smile, whispering, 'Hello.' Tsavorite's jaw dropped even lower, because it was already open. He closed his mouth, astonished at what he saw. A human? This small and not afraid of him? His heart was overwhelmed by compassion and caring. He couldn't hurt something this small and innocent. He allowed the small creature to step forward. The little girl was about five feet away from him, looking around and admiring all the decor.
'Wow, everything is so shiny and bright. You must feel like royalty living here, Mr. Dragon,' she remarked and clasped her hands together.
Tsavorite smiled and managed a small chuckle. He wanted to speak but not scare her. He let out a breath and began to talk. His voice cracked at first, not having spoken in years, letting out a deep tone; 'Thank you, child.'
The small girl walked closer to him. It stunned Tsavorite that she was not afraid of him, even if he was half as big as the hoard that he loomed over. Maybe she thought of him as a huge teddy bear, or just naive. He wasn't quite sure. She sat down right in front of him and sat crisscrossed, with her hands folded into her lap. 'My name's Lily. What's yours?'
Her enthusiasm forced a smile onto his lips. He replied without hesitation, 'My name's Tsavorite. It's wonderful to meet you, Lily.'
Lily leaned back to look straight into his eyes, then leaning back forward. 'Do you mind if I pet you, Taas-voor-ite? Did I say it right? I'm sorry if I didn't.'
Tsavorite was puzzled at her request, but nodded a yes. He closed his eyes and lowered his head down so his jaw would be parallel to her head. Lily got up and sat right next to his cheek, petting his cheek softly. 'You are a very kind dragon. I had heard about you and your family, and was greatly amazed by the legend, and I wanted to see if it was true. My parents forbid me to come up here, but I snuck out anyway. I took the risk of being burned alive, but boy, was it worth it! You are truly amazing, Taa-s? Is it ok if I call you Tas? It's easier that way.' She giggled and hugged Tsavorite's neck, seeming to be beaming with happiness.
Tsavorite was ecstatic at how happy he made this young girl, just by existing. 'That's completely fine, Lily.' They sat in silence for a while, until Lily broke the silence. She sat up and smiled. 'Thank you, Tas. I always wanted to meet a dragon, and I'm glad I met you! The dragons I have heard about in legends were always mean and stingy, but you are so kind!'
Tsavorite lifted his neck up, which itself towered above the young girl. 'It's my pleasure, Lily.' He cordially bowed, snaking his neck around, looking for something. 'Hmm..' His eyes spotted a small treasure chest. It was adorned with a gold trim and had flowers wrapped around it. There was a key stuck in the lock of it as well. Tsavorite opened up the treasure chest and there were some gold coins in it, perfumes, and a flower. A lily. Tsavorite smiled and picked the flower up gently, placing it in Lily's hair. He handed the chest to her, 'œHere. Why don't you fill this up with some of the jewelry and coins in here and then I will take you home.'
'Wow, thank you, thank you, thank you!' Lily hesitated because of his gratitude, but curtsied and then picked out some of the most beautiful and intricate jewelry she could find. Within minutes, she was ready. 'I'm ready! I'd like you to see what I picked out, though.' Tsavorite peeked in the box, and there was a couple hundreds of coins, which could be traded for money or used for currency, along with necklaces, bracelets, rings and amulets. 'Very good choices for a young lady! Are you ready?'
Lily locked the box and slipped the key in her pocket, zipping the pocket up, 'œReady for what?' Tsavorite chuckled. 'œHold still.' He carefully put her into his mouth, not to hurt her, and placed her gently on his shoulders. 'Do you have a firm grip? If you need to, you can grip onto my armor strip as well, there's a cord that connects the shoulder plates. It can be like a bridle, whatever you'd like to imagine it as.'
Lily smiled, the treasure chest in her lap, her elbows cradling it while her fists were secured on the armor strip. 'œYes, I'm ready, but why did I need to get on your back?'
Tsavorite got up slowly, coins and jewels falling off of him as he stood, avoiding the question. 'Where do you live, Lily?' Lily responded, 'I live near the Mountains, where the river crosses in between them and splits them apart. Do you know where that is? It's just north of here.' She pointed forward with one small finger as she held onto the treasure chest. Tsavorite walked outside the cave as his claws grasped the edge of the cliff. 'œWhy, not really, but let'™s go find it, hold on tight!' He took a big leap,
he was a little unsteady at first,
but then he soared';
just like he'd always dreamt of.
