Everybody who knows me or has seen me around Subeta knows that I really, really love Magcargo.
"But Lava," I hear you cry, "how did such an unconventional Pokemon come to be your favourite?"
Well it's true that its Fire/Rock typing leaves much to be desired, the abilities could be better, the movepool is kind of 'meh' and its stats aren't great either... But I don't like it because of it's battle prowess.
It all started a long time ago, in the depths of an irc chatroom for a Pokemon role play group. Everybody had their own 'Pokesonas' to represent themselves, usually some special sparkly legendary abomination. I didn't really want one, but everybody else felt it was absolutely necessary.
"You should be a Magcargo!" They said, "your name is Lava so it fits perfectly!"
"No way," I replied, "I don't want to be such a lameo Pokemon. I want to be something cool."
And so it was decided that I would be represented by a Magcargo, with a name like mine it was really was the only appropriate creature. I resented it for a while, but it grew on me.
Now, several years later, I couldn't imagine being represented by anything else! It's a deeply personal Pokemon for me, I use it as my avatar wherever I go and have a (very) small collection of magcargo knick-knacks. I have since rounded off my collection with a shiny Magcargo that I obtained in-game, and now this Subeta pet.
And that, dear reader, is why I have such a 'lame' favourite Pokemon. It's incredibly uncool and silly, just like me B)
